We serve a lot of"},{"startTime":140.117,"endTime":144.917,"body":"low income students here. And if I'm freaking out because"},{"startTime":550.69,"endTime":553.57,"body":"I've just got a directive and I don't know how to do something."},{"startTime":554.049,"endTime":557.559,"body":"I need to be calm and present that calm front to them."},{"startTime":557.659,"endTime":561.309,"body":"So for me, it was more of don't react, take a deep breath,"},{"startTime":561.32,"endTime":564.559,"body":"digest that information and then move on."},{"startTime":564.82,"endTime":570.419,"body":"I completely agree with what Anne just said with my team, particularly"},{"startTime":570.559,"endTime":574.799,"body":"with the analysts and our degree works coordinator was"},{"startTime":574.809,"endTime":577.619,"body":"is always very involved with the analysts as well."},{"startTime":578.2,"endTime":583.28,"body":"I always wanted to present everything as we are a team."},{"startTime":583.479,"endTime":585.96,"body":"This is going to make us nothing but stronger."},{"startTime":586.03,"endTime":588.989,"body":"You now have the backing of the registrar's"},{"startTime":589.0,"endTime":591.82,"body":"office which you did not have previously."},{"startTime":592.02,"endTime":595.34,"body":"And this is really going to do nothing but strengthen"},{"startTime":595.51,"endTime":598.659,"body":"your positions within the institution."},{"startTime":599.13,"endTime":600.03,"body":"I love all of that."},{"startTime":600.039,"endTime":602.979,"body":"So positive attitudes don't react immediately,"},{"startTime":602.989,"endTime":607.239,"body":"digest it and then also focus on the positive effects"},{"startTime":607.25,"endTime":609.82,"body":"and the outcomes that the change is gonna bring about."},{"startTime":609.83,"endTime":612.969,"body":"I think those are really good pieces of advice."},{"startTime":613.34,"endTime":613.84,"body":"So"},{"startTime":614.039,"endTime":618.059,"body":"let's cast our memories back and if you could"},{"startTime":618.4,"endTime":624.789,"body":"describe what the situation was prior to this set of"},{"startTime":624.799,"endTime":628.5,"body":"upheavals that the registrar's office there has been through."},{"startTime":628.71,"endTime":632.599,"body":"And so what was the situation that you were trying"},{"startTime":632.609,"endTime":634.789,"body":"or what was the situation that you were existing in?"},{"startTime":634.989,"endTime":638.099,"body":"And then what elements of that situation"},{"startTime":638.369,"endTime":641.739,"body":"were pain points that you um tried to address through these changes."},{"startTime":641.75,"endTime":644.26,"body":"So what, what did the before picture look like?"},{"startTime":644.729,"endTime":647.25,"body":"So there was this event back in 2020 called COVID."},{"startTime":647.26,"endTime":649.57,"body":"And I'm not sure if many people remember when this happened."},{"startTime":649.96,"endTime":654.469,"body":"Um but there was a small pandemic uh that that occurred"},{"startTime":654.479,"endTime":656.469,"body":"and might have thrown all our lives in the upheaval."},{"startTime":656.479,"endTime":659.659,"body":"So coming out of COVID after we had spent a year, you know,"},{"startTime":659.669,"endTime":665.07,"body":"just flying by the seat of our pants and trying to survive fall 2021 the records,"},{"startTime":665.08,"endTime":666.63,"body":"the registrar's office at that point"},{"startTime":666.979,"endTime":669.82,"body":"was in student affairs. Here had been for many years"},{"startTime":670.19,"endTime":673.84,"body":"in kind of a very unique structure for the way that enrollment services was,"},{"startTime":673.94,"endTime":675.38,"body":"was put under student affairs."},{"startTime":675.799,"endTime":678.82,"body":"But the registrar's office at that time was led by"},{"startTime":679.09,"endTime":681.76,"body":"uh someone who'd been here for many years as well as the registrar"},{"startTime":681.88,"endTime":685.46,"body":"and they opted to move to a different school and"},{"startTime":685.469,"endTime":688.869,"body":"graciously stayed on through our census state that fall,"},{"startTime":688.89,"endTime":690.5,"body":"which was a lifesaver,"},{"startTime":691.0,"endTime":692.21,"body":"but, you know, people leave."},{"startTime":692.219,"endTime":697.26,"body":"And so this person left and the university took that opportunity to say, hey,"},{"startTime":697.489,"endTime":697.739,"body":"you know,"},{"startTime":697.75,"endTime":700.14,"body":"we think the registrar's office should be"},{"startTime":700.15,"endTime":702.88,"body":"under academic affairs rather than student affairs,"},{"startTime":702.89,"endTime":704.03,"body":"which is very common."},{"startTime":704.28,"endTime":707.119,"body":"A lot of registrar's office are under academic affairs."},{"startTime":707.4,"endTime":711.229,"body":"And in fact, you know, I think three decades ago, that's where we were as well."},{"startTime":711.44,"endTime":715.099,"body":"So it was just sort of that idea. Hey, let's take this opportunity,"},{"startTime":715.599,"endTime":718.7,"body":"the registrar leaving to move the registrar's office."},{"startTime":718.71,"endTime":720.78,"body":"That was the, that was the entire idea."},{"startTime":721.059,"endTime":723.979,"body":"There wasn't a whole lot after that other than we should do that."},{"startTime":724.599,"endTime":727.909,"body":"And if my provost is listening, I love him so much,"},{"startTime":728.07,"endTime":733.719,"body":"then the next step of who's going to be the registrar who's going to lead that effort."},{"startTime":733.729,"endTime":734.469,"body":"And"},{"startTime":734.77,"endTime":735.71,"body":"that's where I came in."},{"startTime":735.719,"endTime":738.559,"body":"I was like, hey, you know, I'll, I'll take on this interim registrar role."},{"startTime":738.57,"endTime":740.94,"body":"I was currently in the one stop as the director."},{"startTime":741.27,"endTime":745.239,"body":"And, uh, I said, you know, I don't, I don't, I don't mind to jump in there and try it."},{"startTime":745.25,"endTime":748.25,"body":"You know, I, I think I'm vastly Underqualified for something like that."},{"startTime":748.26,"endTime":750.27,"body":"I don't know what I'm doing, but, hey, you know, I'll try, you know,"},{"startTime":750.28,"endTime":751.45,"body":"I'll try anything, let's do it."},{"startTime":751.75,"endTime":753.71,"body":"So I jumped into it just thinking it was gonna"},{"startTime":753.719,"endTime":755.869,"body":"be an interim role to try to get us through"},{"startTime":756.419,"endTime":758.33,"body":"that sort of a transitionary period."},{"startTime":758.609,"endTime":760.549,"body":"And here it was it three years later, um,"},{"startTime":760.559,"endTime":763.0,"body":"sitting here in the registrar's chair still,"},{"startTime":763.19,"endTime":766.669,"body":"but at that point in, in fall 2021 there was this,"},{"startTime":766.95,"endTime":767.979,"body":"you know, let's move it under,"},{"startTime":768.4,"endTime":772.39,"body":"under the, under the Provost office, which made a lot of sense for the,"},{"startTime":772.4,"endTime":774.78,"body":"the curriculum and scheduling and record side."},{"startTime":774.789,"endTime":776.44,"body":"You know, I, I think that was really"},{"startTime":776.59,"endTime":776.609,"body":"a"},{"startTime":776.88,"endTime":780.63,"body":"great home for the registrar's office. But how do we do that?"},{"startTime":781.179,"endTime":784.409,"body":"And that's where I got brought into to kind of lead that change."},{"startTime":784.659,"endTime":786.19,"body":"That is a very common model."},{"startTime":786.2,"endTime":789.549,"body":"I report up through academic affairs to the Provost software"},{"startTime":789.71,"endTime":791.549,"body":"makes good sense."},{"startTime":791.869,"endTime":794.53,"body":"It does. think that to feed off of what Ann was saying,"},{"startTime":2652.51,"endTime":2657.76,"body":"Tyler was really excellent with communication throughout this
