CPL,"},{"startTime":384.39,"endTime":385.5,"body":"there's RPL."},{"startTime":386.239,"endTime":389.329,"body":"There's a lot of interchangeability of"},{"startTime":389.579,"endTime":390.41,"body":"those"},{"startTime":390.899,"endTime":391.97,"body":"acronyms."},{"startTime":392.38,"endTime":393.899,"body":"I think at the end of the day,"},{"startTime":393.94,"endTime":396.899,"body":"the way I look at that though is prior learning assessment is"},{"startTime":396.899,"endTime":401.019,"body":"the process that we can use to award credit for prior learning."},{"startTime":401.609,"endTime":402.66,"body":"Or CPL."},{"startTime":402.91,"endTime":408.1,"body":"It's always been something that institutions who want to to serve adult students"},{"startTime":408.35,"endTime":408.79,"body":"have had."},{"startTime":408.89,"endTime":412.69,"body":"They've a lot of them have had these processes in place for a long time."},{"startTime":413.07,"endTime":416.309,"body":"Kale has kind of codified the standards"},{"startTime":416.63,"endTime":418.679,"body":"over the last couple of decades,"},{"startTime":419.049,"endTime":421.26,"body":"and as relevant as it has been,"},{"startTime":421.69,"endTime":423.959,"body":"And as relevant as it will continue to be,"},{"startTime":424.04,"endTime":425.549,"body":"it just hasn't evolved."},{"startTime":425.82,"endTime":425.829,"body":"Uh,"},{"startTime":425.869,"endTime":428.39,"body":"the processes have stayed very stagnant."},{"startTime":428.64,"endTime":428.79,"body":"Um,"},{"startTime":428.799,"endTime":432.44,"body":"it remains a very manual process for a lot of institutions."},{"startTime":432.92,"endTime":433.95,"body":"I went through"},{"startTime":434.239,"endTime":437.709,"body":"back when a three ring binder was completely acceptable."},{"startTime":438.399,"endTime":441.2,"body":"It did weigh about 10 pounds by the time I was done."},{"startTime":441.649,"endTime":444.88,"body":"With all of my evidence files and everything that was required,"},{"startTime":445.17,"endTime":447.079,"body":"some schools still do use,"},{"startTime":447.29,"endTime":447.45,"body":"you know,"},{"startTime":447.57,"endTime":448.97,"body":"paper documentation."},{"startTime":449.209,"endTime":451.45,"body":"The biggest innovation that I've seen in PLA"},{"startTime":451.45,"endTime":455.6,"body":"is really the digitization of the document collection,"},{"startTime":455.809,"endTime":457.489,"body":"but the manual review,"},{"startTime":457.529,"endTime":457.769,"body":"the,"},{"startTime":457.82,"endTime":460.209,"body":"the mental capacity that it takes a faculty"},{"startTime":460.209,"endTime":462.529,"body":"member to dig through all of that information."},{"startTime":463.01,"endTime":466.359,"body":"To figure out what uh is related to the degree or the,"},{"startTime":466.369,"endTime":467.959,"body":"the courses that they offer,"},{"startTime":468.29,"endTime":470.25,"body":"that process really hasn't evolved."},{"startTime":470.57,"endTime":471.88,"body":"So we have this very"},{"startTime":472.13,"endTime":473.72,"body":"clunky process"},{"startTime":473.97,"endTime":475.079,"body":"at a lot of schools,"},{"startTime":475.089,"endTime":475.79,"body":"and in the meantime,"},{"startTime":475.809,"endTime":477.079,"body":"you have this pressure,"},{"startTime":477.329,"endTime":477.88,"body":"both"},{"startTime":478.25,"endTime":480.76,"body":"like basically the pressure on the ecosystem,"},{"startTime":480.929,"endTime":482.89,"body":"where we have less college aged students,"},{"startTime":483.01,"endTime":484.89,"body":"we have more micro credentials,"},{"startTime":485.32,"endTime":487.559,"body":"more information in society that says"},{"startTime":487.769,"endTime":488.66,"body":"you don't need a degree,"},{"startTime":488.809,"endTime":489.559,"body":"go get a"},{"startTime":489.73,"endTime":490.809,"body":"go get a skill,"},{"startTime":491.089,"endTime":492.16,"body":"go get a trade."},{"startTime":492.48,"endTime":493.82,"body":"Whatever that might be,"},{"startTime":494.16,"endTime":495.42,"body":"you're going to have a great people,"},{"startTime":498.309,"endTime":500.01,"body":"but it also means for a lot of those people,"},{"startTime":500.07,"endTime":501.91,"body":"a time will come when they have to come back to"},{"startTime":501.91,"endTime":504.929,"body":"higher education or they choose to come back to higher education"},{"startTime":505.35,"endTime":506.839,"body":"so they can advance their relevant,"},{"startTime":516.32,"endTime":520.429,"body":"but it really becomes the tool in which higher education can stay relevant"},{"startTime":520.679,"endTime":523.03,"body":"and stay connected to students"},{"startTime":523.32,"endTime":524.51,"body":"and employers"},{"startTime":524.789,"endTime":527.59,"body":"and become an important part of that ecosystem where"},{"startTime":527.799,"endTime":530.51,"body":"all of the things are feeding and supporting each mentioned,"},{"startTime":533.4,"endTime":533.559,"body":"you know,"},{"startTime":533.719,"endTime":535.599,"body":"fewer high school graduates."},{"startTime":536.39,"endTime":539.229,"body":"We have something like 40 million people in the"},{"startTime":539.229,"endTime":542.57,"body":"United States who have some college no degree,"},{"startTime":542.909,"endTime":543.479,"body":"who"},{"startTime":543.75,"endTime":548.9,"body":"assumedly have been out in the workforce doing things and learning things."},{"startTime":549.25,"endTime":553.71,"body":"And so if you've been working as a CPA or if you've been working in a marketing firm,"},{"startTime":554.01,"endTime":555.969,"body":"And you don't have a degree,"},{"startTime":556.02,"endTime":559.809,"body":"but you come back after 10 years of working in a marketing firm."},{"startTime":560.14,"endTime":562.13,"body":"How are we higher education"},{"startTime":562.38,"endTime":563.01,"body":"to"},{"startTime":563.38,"endTime":566.099,"body":"assess and process and award"},{"startTime":566.38,"endTime":568.82,"body":"credit for that
