We are thrilled to be back from a little mini Birthday hiatus for Zach's 43rd! We watched virtually every minute of both weekends of Coachella from our couch in Palm Springs and we have to say, Justin Bieber BLEW us away. However, it wasn't after weekend 1. Listen to find out what he did that really changed our view of the pop star and husband of Hailey Bieber. ALSO, Kailey got to attend the party of her life. The party she's been waiting for her entire life. The party to end all parties and that will never be topped most likely. Did she get to meet her number one of all-time, Beyonce? Find out on this week's episode!
Love Z + K
Welcome, welcome, welcome to another episode of Little Coffee Chats with Zach and Kaylee.
SPEAKER_00My name is Zach Mann. And my name is Kaylee Mann.
SPEAKER_02And we are so happy to be back with you guys. We're back, baby. Too long, but also we had a lot of fun. We did. But we missed you.
SPEAKER_00That's true too.
SPEAKER_02And I'm so thrilled to be here with you back in Marina Delra. We're in the Delrah. After spending a couple weeks in Palm Springs for two weekends of Coachella that we did not attend.
SPEAKER_00We didn't attend, but I feel like you know more about what happened at Coachella than a lot of people who were at Coachella, probably.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I agree. Because when you're not there, you get to watch basically everything.
SPEAKER_00You can see everything.
SPEAKER_02And you have all the internet access that you need.
SPEAKER_00And you have air conditioning.
SPEAKER_02And you have bathrooms.
SPEAKER_00And you have snacks.
SPEAKER_02And you have each other.
SPEAKER_00And you have birthday cake.
SPEAKER_02True. Oh man.
SPEAKER_00They don't have that at Coachella, not do they?
SPEAKER_02We had Kaylee. So okay, here, we'll rewind. I love birthday cake. And it was my birthday on one of these days last week.
SPEAKER_00It was. He's 43 now. You've got to go.
SPEAKER_02We had Club 43. And you guys, here's the thing. I have no idea how big cakes are supposed to be. So when Kaylee was asking me what size cake to get, she was like, Oh, do you want like a nine-inch cake? I'm like, what is nine-inch even? I go, well, let's do a round number. Let's do 10. That sounds conceivably normal to say 10-inch cake. Yeah. Holy cow, you guys. This cake, how many, how many slices do they say it could serve?
SPEAKER_00Well, I don't remember. It's like 30 or 40 or something. Like it's not really because it's not just the inches diameter. It's a tall cake. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That's the so is it 10 inches diameter or is it 10 inches radius or 10 inches tall? I didn't measure. I have no idea.
SPEAKER_00I mean, it is three layers. It is three layers. It is the diameter, I think, but the I don't know what the height of it is.
SPEAKER_02It was probably 10 inches by 10 inches. It was huge. It's a 10 by 12. 12 inch or 10 by 12. Massive.
SPEAKER_00All that matters is that Zach loves this cake. It's the same exact, it's from Over the Rainbow Desserts in Palm Springs. They did our wedding cake and we loved it so much that I now get that cake every single year for Zach for his birthday. Now, you were saying some what I believe to be controversial things most recently. I did. So you've been really liking the white on white vanilla vanilla cake. Yeah. And you were saying that maybe you would be down for a different flavor combination.
SPEAKER_02You know, I think I could. Do you rescind that statement? No, I would have to try it though. But I think I could do a taste test. Vanilla cake. Okay. Keep the vanilla cake because I don't think that needs to change. But maybe the frosting could be like a key lime or lemon, some kind of a citrus flavor. It could be cool.
SPEAKER_00What if it was the vanilla frosting still, but they do like a lemon curd layer or something? See, I that's see that feels safer to me than like a whole entire lemon icing.
SPEAKER_02The lemon icing could be better though. Because then it would be like a subtle lemon flavor than a whole curd.
SPEAKER_00And they do like really interesting and fun flavors too. We could take a look.
SPEAKER_02What if next year, three small cakes? All different flavors in a whole world.
SPEAKER_00Okay, that's a fun idea. Also, they do have cupcakes, and we could just try the cupcake version first to see what we like most.
SPEAKER_02True.
SPEAKER_00We have more cake testing in our future. You guys, cake talk. We're all about cakes.
SPEAKER_02Like honestly, I could talk about cakes forever.
SPEAKER_00Okay, but the thing about having this huge cake is that when Zach's parents were still in Palm Springs with us, they were inviting every single person they know to come over to the house for a slice of cake.
SPEAKER_02And more than once. And their friends.
SPEAKER_00Some guests more than once.
SPEAKER_02And the guests would bring guests.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_02Which was great.
SPEAKER_00That's what cake should be about. Cake is about community. Cake brings people together.
SPEAKER_02So the 10-inch cake did its job, and I even saved some and put it in the freezer. So it lasted maybe what was that? Saturday to Saturday to Saturday, give or take, Saturday to Friday. And I froze a little section on maybe Wednesday or Thursday.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Let's say. And uh put it back in the fridge, then took it out. And by the time we ate it, it was great.
SPEAKER_00I didn't have any, but I heard it was good.
SPEAKER_02It was maybe better than the first bite I had. Really? Yes.
SPEAKER_00Maybe it like refreshed it. Everything it could condense and then I don't know.
SPEAKER_02We made the cake often right out of the fridge. We don't do a good job. Yeah, but I'm but I love it kind of cold. I like it when the frosting's kind of like a candy and you can just pick it up and hold it and eat it. That kind of grosses me out. I don't really like that. Oh, I don't mind it. I just love you guys. We love cake. We love cake. We have a lot to get into from the past couple weeks that we I realized that like we were our last conversation. We were talking about Mora on The Bachelorette. How things have changed. That feels like a distant memory. I mean, okay, we talked about uh Sierra and Rihanna, the whole Sierra, Rihanna, Amanda thing. But like I like that it's a Rihanna thing now. But like we've we've really it's been a lot of it happened. Because of Coachella, so much goes on I think culturally too in those two weeks. So um, what is something that surprised you the most in the last couple of weeks that has happened that really has shocked you?
SPEAKER_00Like, I don't not like culturally, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I don't think any of the shocked me. Bieber's performance or or um anything like that.
SPEAKER_00No, no, no, no.
SPEAKER_02I want to take West and Amanda at Yankee Stadium canoodling.
SPEAKER_00Okay, that was just like they went out in public together to a very public game the same day that Sierra's glamour car cover came out, which I'm just like the shade. That's so gross. I don't know. It's just they either have to get married or they have to break up, but honestly, neither one of them seems that into it anymore. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02So you don't think they're in love?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. I don't know. I think, or it's just like very awkward being out, but I'm just like my now my feeling when I see them, like which has it's gone from like shock and like really like intrigue to just being like you know, yeah, what's gonna happen to see it until the reunion his Ozark show because Oh, I don't know, because he's allegedly getting his own spin-off that's like Summer House, but in the Ozarks, right? So is man is Amanda gonna be on that show with him and drag that down too? Sorry, no, but like No, there's no way she's already on in the city, right? I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Are you gonna be cast on the Ozarks?
SPEAKER_00Absolutely not.
SPEAKER_02Our favorite realtor better be on the show, though.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god, she better be.
SPEAKER_02Lake Front.
SPEAKER_00Well, we had I had a very personal big moment happen before we even left for Coachella.
SPEAKER_02Oh my gosh, we haven't even talked about that.
SPEAKER_00Okay, now so I was invited by the grace of God, aka Beyonce herself, to the sacred launch party for their heat styling line. And one person, maybe a couple people, asked on my TikTok, how did you get invited to this?
SPEAKER_02Well, how did you?
SPEAKER_00Great question.
SPEAKER_02Tell us, Kaylee.
SPEAKER_00So I don't know, and I don't want to question it too hard because I don't want to make anyone be like, why did we invite you?
SPEAKER_02I would invite you.
SPEAKER_00Well, that's very nice. Thank you. You are my husband.
SPEAKER_02I know, but I would invite you if I was Beyonce's team.
SPEAKER_00That's really sweet. So here's what I think happened. Okay. I posted last summer about using the sacred restoring hair and edge drops for a part of my hair that is like has always wanted to recede. Always. So I started using them and it really helped regrow my hair in that area. And I've used it pretty consistently ever since, and it's just been super helpful for growing my hair, just like right here.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00So I posted an initial video last summer, and then I posted an update to that a few months after that. And both of them went kind of viral. So when people like initially search for the sacred drops, my video is one of the first ones that comes up.
SPEAKER_02And where would they find that video?
SPEAKER_00On TikTok.
SPEAKER_02Okay, on TikTok.
SPEAKER_00So then it went viral again. I don't know, something happened and it caused another rush to the videos, even though they were older. So I think I got invited through that. Okay. Well, they reached out to me and asked for our mailing address to send me product. Which is that's what happened first. That was crazy. And I was like, oh my God, what's happening?
SPEAKER_02Well, remember when the box arrived, I'm like, what is this? And you're like, I have no idea. And then you're like, oh my God.
SPEAKER_00They sent me the entire new line. Unreal. Which I just couldn't believe it. Like for me to receive PR, I've already received the top of the line PR for me. Right, you got it.
SPEAKER_02You're done.
SPEAKER_00I'm good.
SPEAKER_02I'm good.
SPEAKER_00We're done here. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02We can buy Starbucks. We don't need any more.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's fine. So um then, like a couple days after I received the products, I got a DM from Sacred again, which was an on the low invite to a party that was in like one and a half weeks.
SPEAKER_01Whoa.
SPEAKER_00Didn't have the location. You had an idea of the time. I knew it was gonna be in LA.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And that was it. They said, keep your eyes peeled. You have to RSVP by this date.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_00Just one person, that's it.
SPEAKER_02And you're excited about this, but you can't have any expectation, right?
SPEAKER_00I'm excited. And I'm like, you know, I've I've actually been to a lot of events before for brands. I've been on the brand side, I've been on the like, we've got to cover it for someone for social media side.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So I I know how these things go, and I'm excited to be invited as just like a person. And you just never know what to expect. Some of them are great, and some of them are okay, and some of them are amazing, and some of them are the best events you could possibly be invited to for the type of person you are. And this fell into that last category.
SPEAKER_02So tell us about the day or the 24 hours leading up to it.
SPEAKER_0024 hours leading up to it. I know the dress code is all white, so I have my white dress.
SPEAKER_02Where's it from? Give us all the details. So I got the dress people will want to know.
SPEAKER_00I got the dress on Revolve. I am blanking on the name of it right now, but I did tag it, I think. If you go to my Instagram and my um TikTok.
SPEAKER_02How many options did you try?
SPEAKER_00I only ordered three dresses. Okay. The dress, I really liked that dress the most, but the there was another one that had like kind of a cape thing attached. I could not get my head through the dress or my shoulders. So I was just like, So that's not the word. I couldn't even try it on. I don't even know who fits into that. Not me with the linebacker shoulders. So um then there was another dress that was white can be very bridal. So it was too bridal, the other option. And it just was like, meh. So my favorite ended up working out perfectly. And it was really comfortable. And then the accessories I already had.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00So I just wore like some silver Steve Madden pumps that are a knockoff of the blue baton shoe. And my rhinestone bag that I have tried to bring to every Beyonce show. Oh, yeah, Steve. Taylor Swift show, but it's too big for the measurements and it's not like see-through, so I can't bring it. So anyway, I got to. Yay! Finally. And then it's the day before, and I still don't have the location. And I'm like, am I being punked? Is this being canceled? It's okay if the event's being canceled. Like, I'm still preparing for it. So then it's the day of the event, and around like 8 30 a.m., I am emailed the details. Wow. I have the location, the time. You cannot arrive later than this, or you will not be allowed in. You cannot wear anything but white, or else you will not be allowed in. And there will be about 20 minutes of the night where you will need to pouch your phone. And I'm thinking, okay.
SPEAKER_02This could be it.
SPEAKER_00This could be it. And it was it. So I get ready for this event, but I'm still like, what's happening? I don't know. I get ready. I'm really nervous right before I go. And on I took an Uber because I just couldn't deal with also driving in a dress. No thanks. So a long dress. So I'm taking the Uber down and I'm just like kind of getting some TikToks beforehand. And then I get dropped off, and it's just me standing in line with a bunch of other influencers, which I don't consider myself to be one, but everyone else who's there is either an influencer, a celebrity, an athlete, or like the best of the best of influencers, like literally Olympian athletes or related to Beyonce.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00So I'm in line, and people are like, oh my God, good to see you. Congrats on the 60K to like all the other, you know, they're all talking about their influencer stuff, which is also interesting to me. Yeah. And then you went through, I went through two different rounds of showing my ID. And then you I got a wristband, and then there's like a beautiful white carpet with a huge sacred backdrop. And uh everyone's just kind of like waiting in line, and some people are doing interviews, but mostly people are waiting to use the backdrop to take photos, and that's what they want you to do.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00So I'm standing there, I'm like, I don't know. If Zach were here, this would be so easy. Right. But I'm like, who's gonna take my pictures for me? Yeah. And I met a really sweet girl in line next to me, and she was just absolutely adorable and so kind and a professional influencer.
SPEAKER_02Do you follow her now?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we follow each other now. And she took my photos, I took her photos, and then we just kind of like hung out the rest of the night. So then you go inside the party, and it was a beautiful bar with Sir Davis drinks, of course, and then some mirrors, and they had like this activation where you were standing on like a rotating thing in front of a green screen, and they do like this hair thing.
unknownCool.
SPEAKER_00So we get we got our photos elsewhere, and then we are standing in line for the activation, and it's announced that we need to move to the other room for the presentation. Got it. CEO comes out, says, you know, we want you to film like the show part, but not the speeches.
unknownGot it.
SPEAKER_00We put our we, meaning I think only me, put our phone away. And out comes Beyonce, Tina, and Blue. Wow. And it was just, I'm glad I put my phone away because I just wanted to be there in the moment with Beyonce. I've never I've seen her in the wild one time, but it was the back of her. But I haven't seen her in the wild, like, or it's not in the wild, but not performing ever before. Yeah, she's gonna be. You know, like she's not Sasha Fierce all the time. And she kind of talked about being Sasha Fierce and using the hair products on stage and all that. And it was just so sweet and so cute. And she talked about her mom and her sister and her sister, her daughter, and it was just amazing. And Beyonce is like literally the most beautiful woman in the world, and I just love her and adore her. So then it was like a hair show, which was really fun. And Beyonce was standing in the back with her mom and her daughter and Kelly. And then after that, we moved to outside where they had this huge, gorgeous Italian pizza oven and like cookies, and it was just actually really amazing, nice food.
SPEAKER_02Was everyone eating or everyone was eating?
SPEAKER_00Okay, I didn't eat because I'm wearing all white. Beyonce could be around still. I I just don't want to risk getting red sauce all over me. Yeah, I was just I had eaten before. I didn't want to worry about it. I did have a cookie though. Okay, and then we went back in and we're like, okay, let's finally do this activation, and then I'm gonna go.
SPEAKER_02That's the green screen thing. The green screen thing.
SPEAKER_00So we're standing in line. Beyonce just three feet away from me, emerges from behind a curtain to say hi to like VIP guests. Wow. It was amazing. You can see me in the background of some videos just staring at her. I didn't take video because there are bodyguards that would come around and stand right in front of you if you're taking a video.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you don't want to be the person who's getting detected.
SPEAKER_00I was like, maybe I will get to say hi to her or something. And I was just kind of around, but then she got just totally swarmed, and I was like, that's not it's not meant to be this time. Maybe there will be another time. If there isn't another time, that's also okay. But I just got to be around her presence, and then and then she was, I think she stayed there way longer than she intended, and then they left. Okay, and it was amazing. Sorry, that's a really long story.
SPEAKER_02No, but that's people love your your journey with Beyonce and they know you're a diehard fan. And you know, you and I had talked about like what you would say to her if you had a chance to say anything to her. Did you feel like you were prepared if you had a chance to, or or not really? Were you kind of like starstruck? Because I asked you what the sound was like when she came out for the first time, like with the I don't even remember. I don't remember. I was so I'm I was just like this. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Just like dear to headlights, but uh I just think I would I would want to say, you know, I love you so much, and thank you for being the soundtrack to my life, and you inspire me in every way, and I just feel so grateful that I get to live at the same side as you are.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I love that.
SPEAKER_00Just something like that, you know. I just I just admire her so much. So it was really special. Awesome, even though I didn't get to say hi, but it's okay. It was happened. I just couldn't believe I was there. Yeah, you're I was like one of a few 200 people who were there or whatever. It's insane. I I can't believe that. I just can't believe it. It's amazing.
SPEAKER_02It's so cool and so well deserved, and I'm so happy for you. And uh yeah, and then the next day we left for Palm Springs.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Also, you know what's interesting is that I'm recapping this now. It's April 21st. Okay. We last year we went to the very first show of Cowboy Carter, which was on April 29th. Okay, and you got me to join you what was on initially your podcast the following day to recap it. Oh my god, it's been a year. So it's been a year, and in that year, whoa, since that just that, I've I've been invited to a Beyonce party.
SPEAKER_02Wow.
SPEAKER_00That's kind of nuts.
SPEAKER_02Well, I think you learning spaghetti was a huge part of it too.
SPEAKER_00Oh, maybe. I mean, also like if they if they found that sacred video, then they could go to my account and see that I'm just a huge Beyonce fan. Exactly. Exactly.
SPEAKER_02And it all works. Normal, normal-ish, too. Not too dangerous. Kind of, yeah. Not at all. The background check. No. Um, uh, well, that's great. Well, okay, so let's fast forward now from that Beyonce concert. We go to Palm Springs and um let's talk about Coachella and let's just kind of merge weekend one and weekend two together because I feel like uh even though they are very different, it's I want to talk about them as like a weekend one, getting the criticisms of too many influencers in weekend two, being like the real fans, and oh my god, everything has to be a controversy, everything has to be like us versus them, a contest, or this and that. And I think the artists kind of play into that. And look, not every year. Well, Sabrina did. Well, Sabrina, well, I'm just saying in general, yeah. Um, but I feel like last year, weekend one had a lot of the good um special guest stuff.
SPEAKER_00I felt like we got a lot of really good special guests.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and then weekend two wasn't as great. I guess I think it's just a matter of timing. I think so too. Like Olivia Rodrigo's song came out that second weekend, so she popped up at Addison Ray's show. That would have been awesome to be there for that. Obviously, not having uh Enyuma perform on Friday night sucked for weekend one, and he that performance was insane. Yeah, so that's a huge bummer. And Bieber, of course, I mean, very obviously, weekend one was his first show in a long time, and he was kind of feeling it out and did his thing. He was there on time and performed, which is great. And we can talk all day long about men versus women and blah blah blah, but I'll save that for a different time. Yeah, weekend two, Bieber seemed like a new human. He was just so different. So, what are what is your main takeaway from just the Coachella conversation this year and what you've what like really you're gonna stick with for the next uh year?
SPEAKER_00Well, I can confidently say that after weekend two, I am now a believer. Wow. I was always just kind of like okay on Justin Bieber. But sitting on the couch on Sunday morning watching his performance, and we watched weekend one too, and weekend one definitely felt like he was like testing the waters. Like, am I confident? Can I do this? Like, this is I haven't done this in a long time. He's kind of hiding behind the hat and the hoodie and everything. And he just felt a little bit more. Like self-protective mode. Almost like shy. Yeah. And it I feel like he was like, Okay, I got through weekend one. Now I can actually like I've totally got this. And I felt like I could feel that on weekend two. Yes. It felt like pure joy emanating from him. And there's nothing better than seeing your favorite artist happy and like truly like embracing that moment in the spotlight. And he was like, you know, out with the fans and pulling them even in closer to him. And he just was smiling so much. And Big Sean comes out and gives him his flowers, which was so incredible. And like Sizza comes out, and they're so he's just so happy and excited to be there with him. And I think he's one of the best live singers we have. Like I just love his voice so much. And I just feel also now protective of him.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he sounded great. And I think you're totally right. Like, um I think anytime you see an artist at something, rarely do you have a chance like Coachella, where you can just from 4 p.m. till about 1 a.m. on one of those days, you can just find a random artist, right? Yeah. And uh you can that weekend find your next favorite artist out of nowhere. Like, I don't know you exist, watch your set. Holy shit, you're amazing. And I think what Justin did was it for you in particular in this moment, but I think for a lot of people, it did kind of reintroduce him to the maybe some people who thought he was, you know, a boy band guy, uh a pop, you know, that there's just something about him that's a little bit standoffish, but when he let people in, you go, wait a minute, I want to root for you now. And that was really special to see because everyone deserves to be rooted for.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely.
SPEAKER_02And I think he did a really great job of taking some of the notes maybe from weekend one and some people, some of the conversation about it, and opened up and had some different approaches and mentally mental health-wise, too, felt and looked different too. Yeah, didn't seem forced, no, but it seemed like he did gain a new energy, a new love.
SPEAKER_00Like weekend one felt reflective, and weekend two felt playful.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and that's special. And so you uh Justin, even like a Justin Bieber can make you become a big a big fan, versus even like an artist that you would never heard of in your life, you go, Oh my god, yeah, you're and that's what Coachella can do.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, and also with with Bieber, I've I was too old when he like first hit the music scene. Like, I was like, I'm not gonna listen to this like little boy.
unknownRight, right.
SPEAKER_00I just not they're fun songs, but what I can't, I'm not really a big one.
SPEAKER_01They're kind of goofy, yeah.
SPEAKER_00But now I can really get into it. Yeah, he was just so phenomenal. I just have a respect for him that I didn't have necessarily before.
SPEAKER_02And then seeing Billie Eilish actually was kind of crazy.
unknownOh my god.
SPEAKER_02Here's Justin Bieber and Billie Eilish, maybe two of the most recognizable faces on the planet. Yeah, arguably in music, I would say they're probably in the top 10 each, right? For music. Let's just not worry about like all of the people. No, I agree. And they both had these like self-reflective, totally open to the audience, open to themselves moments. You know, Bieber is having a blast singing to people and being like happy and feeling more confident, but also just like being okay with who he was and himself. And then you have Billie Eilish coming on stage being like shy and embarrassed. You can't believe she's meeting her like idol. Like two of these huge stars are like showing who they really were in themselves. And I think that's so cool to see. I did not expect that to happen at all. And that's I think the power and the magic of Coachella that would not have happened at Lollapalooza or like a stagecoach. Like this is like those one in a million moments that really makes I think Coachella have the reason for people to keep going back every year.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02For these moments. What do you think about that?
SPEAKER_00Well, I think both of them show different aspects of vulnerability. And it's very rare that we get to see that in a way that feels just so real.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And it feels like that. And vulnerability makes you feel really connected to someone. And usually it's just like alone listening to their music where we feel like we can see and connect with their vulnerability. But to see it on stage through, you know, just pure emotions and pure experiences that they're having, you feel just even more connected. And it's a really beautiful thing. That's how I feel also with Beyonce now, because I feel like I see performance mode Beyonce all the time. But and yes, this is business mode, but but there are things that are just different. You go, oh my God, she's so cute. Like, which I don't feel that way on stage. I'm like, this is the most powerful woman I've ever seen in my life. Right. So it just endears you to them even more. And Coachella is so unique because there's just nowhere else in the world you could go see Justin Bieber and feel closer to him, and then go somewhere else and see OK Lou or however you say her name and be like, I've never seen this person before, they're my new favorite artist. You know, it just where else are you gonna do that? Right, it doesn't happen like that anywhere else. And you just feel you're physically close to them too, right?
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah. I mean, especially with some of the the smaller stages. I mean, shit, Casey Musgraves played in a small little tent, you know, and that would have been incredible to be there for that in weekend two. Oh yeah, weekend two also got Casey Musgraves and Madeon.
SPEAKER_00Weekend two really and Madonna.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, and Madonna. Oh, yeah, and Madonna, and like you said, the guests. Although I love Kid LaRoy, and I would have loved to have heard um yeah uh stay.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh, because that's like one of my favorite songs. I love that.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god, yeah. Stay is one of those songs like Malibu by uh Miley that you could listen to all day on a loop. Like Diet Pepsi.
SPEAKER_02If you gave me Diet Pepsi, Malibu, and Stay, all three of them, and they just rotated around. I could maybe listen to that forever until I died. I'm not kidding.
SPEAKER_00I know you're not kidding. I'm kidding. I know. I have caught you in the middle of these episodes.
SPEAKER_02I need to find 10 songs to put in that playlist that I could just play over and over again.
SPEAKER_00Okay, that's actually a good start a list in your phone because those are those are really the strongest three so far. Yeah. Well, I think there's got to be a Casey song, too.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, probably. But I was gonna say that there's probably um for Malibu though, there could be two.
SPEAKER_00I know. There are a couple of things.
SPEAKER_02Maybe Ben Platt's Diet Pepsi. It could be two Malibu's and two diet pepsies.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god. So embarrassing. Hey, throw back college.
SPEAKER_02I think my first drink I've ever had in my life, aside from a uh an espresso martini sip, was like Malibu and Coke.
SPEAKER_00Me too.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh but Diet Coke.
SPEAKER_02I think, yeah, mine was probably regular. I don't even know.
SPEAKER_00It's like one of those very first things I drank in college, and I can't I can't even fathom trying it now.
SPEAKER_02Well, Malibu is like only what 20%? It's like half the oh, I have no idea. Yeah, it's half, so it's more palatable. But I loved watching Coachella. I love watching, you know, I'm a weirdo guys. I like watching the in-between set stuff where it's just the sound of the people that ambient music. And they play this ambient music that's like really beautiful.
SPEAKER_00It's I just love it. I kind of missed it. Oh I forgot how much I liked it.
SPEAKER_02It's just like it's almost like you're not really there, but you just feel the energy and the tension. And I love that. There's something really magical about being there on the ground, but it's exhausting, it's hard, it's whatever. It's expensive, it's all those things, but it's it's wonderful, and I think people should do it. And this year's we went last year, so it didn't make sense to go this year. But when you're watching the live stream and you're hearing that sound, it really is like I can't imagine if I was like 14 living in Tennessee, watching this. Like, what I want to know what they feel like when they're watching Coachella live stream. Like, do you have any idea what that's like?
SPEAKER_00Well, Lauren was saying that she was telling someone in Ohio when she was at the mall that she was like, you know, it's like, oh, what are you shopping for? She's like, Oh, I'm going to Palm Springs, we're gonna watch Coachella. And like this girl was like, Wait, have you been to Coachella? And Lauren's like, Yeah, and she was like, Are you like famous? It is hard to understand that you just buy a ticket and you go, but like if you're not around it, I also wouldn't know. Like, I didn't know until I was lived in LA even what Coachella was.
SPEAKER_02I did honestly did not know what it was when you moved to LA, it started getting really, really, really, really, really big.
SPEAKER_00There are so many things you just don't realize. Like, anyone can go. You just have to like put in a lot of work and spend a lot of money to get there. Yeah. But I will say also, this year is the first year online where I've seen people be like, okay, I'm glad Coachella is over because I had FOMO. Like, I'm thank God it's over because I actually felt like I was missing out for the first time and like maybe ever. So I think people are finally out of that like post-pandemic haze where you're just like, oh, I'm tired, and like it's weird to be around people, and that seems like a lot of work and blah, blah, blah. And now I think people really want to be together. Yeah, they want live experiences, they want to be exhausted after the best three days of their lives, you know? And it was just, it looked like everyone was having fun after weekend too.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you know, and the online conversation is so tired and boring where it's like influencers so boring, they don't dance, they don't have their hands up, they don't do this, they're just filming. And my generation, which is your generation, I my generation was doing this, and this generation is doing that.
SPEAKER_00And it's just like having fun looks different for everyone, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Totally. Also, I feel like now more than ever, Coachella has probably the most diverse music that's ever had in its history. In its history, and therefore, you're gonna have maybe 30,000 people, which is a lot. I mean, that's insane. That's like two forums at a Sahara tent listening to music that they may never have heard of before. Yeah. And like they're not gonna be like, I know this song. I'm gonna like, you know, sing literally. I don't know it because I don't know it, but I want to be at the Sahara tent.
SPEAKER_00It's exposing you to new artists.
SPEAKER_02And but I would say like Coachella 99 or Coachella like 2005, like it was all a certain type of music, and you probably pretty much knew everything. Or that's that type of person who went to it then uh knew a lot of those same artists, and it slowly but surely gotten more pop. Yes, but don't you don't you agree that there's just more diversity in music?
SPEAKER_00I completely agree, and I think people who are like so critical of it, honestly, are a little jealous. It's a little jelly, they just haven't been there, they don't know. Yeah, were they at the original Coachella and they went this year? Like, come on, right. Also, Coachella, like lighten up.
SPEAKER_02I would say that that Coachella, too, the funny thing. Look, I don't deal with the idea of like being around influencers that actually would call themselves an influencer. I don't really know what that's like. So, truthfully, if someone says influencers are annoying, and they're I see some of that stuff too, where it's like people feel so entitled. Like, entitled people exist without being influencers. Have you ever driven on a freeway before in LA?
SPEAKER_00Have you ever been around a man?
SPEAKER_02Have you ever been in a line on a Starbucks? Like, entitlement exists throughout every single time. Oh my god, I almost got into a fight with women at Sephora. Yeah, whether you're a general admission, VIP, artist wristband, or an artist yourself, there's you know, people will do what people do all the time. Uh all I can say is if it was easier to make Coachella work, I probably would go every week, every single year.
SPEAKER_00You said every week.
SPEAKER_02Well, I would want that, I would want every I was gonna every weekend, but I would, it's just that like it is hard and expensive, and it's so comfortable just to be at our house and watch it.
SPEAKER_00Also, like these influencers have an insane turnaround time. Can you imagine being at an I personally I can't being at Coachella all day, yeah. You have videos that are due to the client by a certain time that day. You gotta stay up, you gotta make sure it gets approved, you have to post it. Like, I know that doesn't sound like a lot of work to people, but it is I don't think people understand how exhausting it is to be at Coachella. Number one, the heat. You could be doing nothing, but you're in that heat. Yeah, you're exhausted. Walking a ton, these are to they're making videos while they're getting ready, they're getting making videos about their outfits, they're making videos for brands, they're getting content while they're there, they're editing it in the little peaks of time that they have in between stuff, and then trying to send it, trying to get reception. Yeah, it's I think it's kind of a lot.
SPEAKER_02So do you think that they have like people working with them?
SPEAKER_00Like some of them do, but some of the girls that like I was talking to at the sacred event, they don't.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_00They'll have like a manager who helps them stay on track, but they don't have people who are like editing their content or posting it for them or anything.
SPEAKER_02So like an Alex Earl or G. Alex does, Jake Shane.
SPEAKER_00They probably do.
SPEAKER_02Is that are those types of people that have they have teams, obviously, but like at what level do you think that kind of drops off at where they're doing it on their own? I think most people are just doing it on their own. Yes. And only like a few, few tiny few have a team.
SPEAKER_00I would say like the top two percent of Motors. Yeah, I mean, in my I don't I don't feel like hard, but like I it is a lot of work, actually. Also, I saw people online being like, oh, Coachella is just like this big branded thing. Like, why are why is there even like a Starbucks there? We already know what Starbucks is. Isn't this about? Do you know the comfort of being in the middle of your long ass day at Coachella and seeing something familiar where you go, oh, I don't have to go to a random like lemonade stand. You're like, I can get my iced coffee, I can go inside. They have AC or you know, or seeing the Aperol Spritz stand, you're like, I can get a real Aperol Spritz. Like it actually feels amazing. It's it's like being in a foreign country and wanting to go to McDonald's. Like you just need something that's like comforting that you know what's gonna be like when you're having an amazing experience, but it's exhausting, you know.
SPEAKER_02Totally. I love that reference, like with being internationally being like if you have a certain comfort something and you know that you can order a thing a certain way, too, you know they're gonna have it. And that's a nice thing for coffee drinkers in particular, but obviously, yeah, like for food. You know, we had a good friend that had food there. Um, well, not a good friend, but a friend of ours has a had a food um station set up, and I'm curious of how long the lines were throughout because I feel like that was one of the big problems, which you wouldn't think. But there are 125,000 people there, and there are tons of food options, but there are everyone is hungry at the same time for the most part, or everyone has like breaks at the same time, too. Oh, right, yeah, in between the sets, exactly. So it's just like it is really hard to eat there. So, yeah, having like a Starbucks set up or having like little areas to go to makes a lot of sense for people.
SPEAKER_00I think it's hard to eat when you're at Coachella. I also think it's really hard to even get a buzz when you're at Coachella because you're walking so much, you're sweating so much, you're standing in line for one drink, and then it's like hours until you can get the next one. It's like, I don't know how people are getting that wild at Coachella. Oh, well, drugs. But I'm like, I it's impossible. You're burning through everything so quickly. Uh yeah, I I miss it.
SPEAKER_02It was great. I I really do.
SPEAKER_00I would love to go in person again.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think we will. I think next year it could be if, well, we could talk about that too. Of like, who do you think would be if you were to name just one artist and it has to be different? I I'll name a second artist. So you can go first. Who do you think is the most likely gonna be at Coachella next year?
SPEAKER_00Olivia Rodrigo. Okay. I think so. I I'm sorry, I think I stole your answer. No, no, no. I was gonna We talked about this a lot.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think Olivia Rodrigo um is number one for sure gonna happen. I want Noah Khan.
SPEAKER_00I do too.
SPEAKER_02That would be so fun. By the way, he could do a sunset set. He doesn't have to be the main headliner. He could do a but I think he could be. He could be, but not necessarily. He's not as big as Olivia is, you know what I mean? But yeah, uh, but that would be that would be incredible. And then I think if I were to give another name that uh it would be the two Olivia. Olivia Dean.
SPEAKER_00Do you think Olivia Dean would be the headliner for that day, or like a sons?
SPEAKER_02I think so. She's about she almost has she has two songs in the top five of Billboard still. That's true, that's true. And then I know like Harry Styles could come back because he has a new album, which I don't want to say Harry Styles, but people love him.
SPEAKER_00Harry was just there in 2021.
SPEAKER_02I know, and Bruno Mars, people are saying about him. I'm like, no, please, no more Bruno Mars.
SPEAKER_00I absolutely will not go with him.
SPEAKER_02People love him, and maybe Gaga comes out for one of his songs. You never know. Because she sang.
SPEAKER_00Um, but she has a really soft spot for him.
SPEAKER_02But I think Olivia Rodrigo, Olivia Dean, Noah Khan, one of those three for sure. If two of those three would be really fun to go see.
SPEAKER_00What about like hip-hop though?
SPEAKER_02Hip hop, well, Drake.
SPEAKER_00Okay, Drake, um, Don Tolliver. Well, he performed at Revolve Fest. So yeah, Dawn.
SPEAKER_02That's a great album.
SPEAKER_00That'd be really fun. Yeah. Well, we'll see. Dawn and Drake. Yeah, that makes sense.
SPEAKER_02That would be that makes sense. I don't have enough hip-hop knowledge.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so every year we leave like Coachella or your birthday week, whatever we want to call it. And I feel like there's a lesson or a takeaway like that you take from that time with you that is kind of like inspiring.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00What do you feel like you have taken away from this almost two-week birthday celebration?
SPEAKER_02Gosh. Uh you're hitting me with a great question. Do you have an answer for yourself first? Or shall I uh I would say takeaway? Well, I just had a great time. I really enjoy just being with you and Dolly. Um, at a great time with my parents. It's very special to have time with your family like that. Uh uh Nick and Allie got to come out and got to hang out with their little girl who's just a light of lights and uh who loves cactus. She loves them. And Dolly was so good around her and good around all the people, and she got to play a lot. I mean, we just feel very lucky. There's I think there's very few moments in your life where everything for that brief moment is really good. Yeah, you know, and so we took advantage of that, and I feel very grateful for that. And obviously, things can change in an instant, and I could forget all about my gratefulness for all that. But I in that moment I was like, this is good. I felt good and and um I did not take it for granted. How about you?
SPEAKER_00I I think oh god, I also just had so much fun with everyone. It was just a blast. I think something that I really liked about this trip is how much we took advantage of Palm Springs itself.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Sometimes when we do the birthday stuff, it's like we don't really leave the house or we try to like supply everything at the house.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I think instead just like going out to brunch and going out to dinner is perfect. It's fun, the weather really permitted that to happen. But I feel like you get the mix that you enjoy the house so much, and we enjoy Palm Springs itself so much. It's also, I think, more fun for guests too to like see more of Palm Springs. So I thought it was like a really perfect balance of everything. But Palm Springs was just really on its A game. I usually kind of am ready to get out of there, but this time I was just like loving it. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I mean, the weather was great, the the vibes were great. When that's going on, you're you're in the best, you're in the the center of the cultural universe, and the weather is fantastic, and you have friends visiting, or you're with family, or and your dog.
SPEAKER_00I mean, it buoys the energy of everything in the vicinity. Like it's just incredible. It was awesome. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02All right. What are you sipping on?
SPEAKER_00Okay. Sip on this. So sip on this. Is that not how we start it? No, you go sip on this.
SPEAKER_02Sip on this. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Okay, what I'm sipping on this week is something that I learned in Palm Springs that I think is gonna help me in June as well. So I feel like I get, I'm not used to full-on summer weather and summer dressing. And I think something that I'm going to lean into, and this is wow, shocking and novel idea, is dressing for the heat means wearing looser fitting clothing. Like things that don't like touch the body is what feels best.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00I know that is not a revelation to most, but it is a revelation to me that I just discovered this past week or so where it's like, I think like I travel and I get really hot and I feel really gross and like just trapped in my clothes. Sure. It's not the right clothes. The clothes need to not be skin tight when you're in the heat. I know, I know that is not that interesting or groundbreaking, but it is to me. It is to me, okay?
SPEAKER_02She found out what linen clothes are all about.
SPEAKER_00I know. Linen, it's amazing. Oh my God. Or like, I don't know. I think a lot of women have this issue. I have an issue with tops. Like, tops are really tough for me. I really just wear like tank tops and shirts that are close to the body.
SPEAKER_02Let's tight like that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And I feel like annoyed when I'm really hot and I'm just like, this is a tank top, but It's also like tight. I don't know. So just getting some fun, looser tops. Okay. Huge difference for me. Massive difference.
SPEAKER_02Are you seeing that currently in the zeitgeist of clothing options for you?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think it's back. I think the tops are getting a little bit more experimental and they're getting more fun and like not so close to the body.
SPEAKER_02So are we entering like short shorts, low rise shorts, and then a loose fitting top?
SPEAKER_00Yes, and because also the thing that you need with low rise is a longer, looser top. Like you can't, unless unless you're a supermodel or a teenager, like a tiny top and tiny shorts. It's just too much.
SPEAKER_02Or you're on euphoria, season three.
SPEAKER_00Oh, we haven't even talked about that. We'll save that. Next week. Get me out of my hole that I've dug myself. Okay, well. What are you sipping on?
SPEAKER_02Okay, well, yeah, next week we'll talk about all of our shows and all the things because we have a lot to talk about there. But um, I think I'm sipping on uh I I was trying to think of this right now, and I know it's kind of a weird topic, but well saying it's not a weird topic, but I'm trying to find the right phrase um, but I think I want to coin a new phrase for food. Okay, it's called the French cake.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02A French cake is a brunch order of French fries and pancake. And here's the thing if you can get a table fry and table cakes, is that is there anything better in the world than having brunch share plates that are fries and cakes? Come on. We ate so many orders of french fries, so many pancakes. Part of why the trip was so great. We brunched it up so often. Oh, yeah. We brunched hard. We brunched hard. Now I don't drink anymore, so there's no like mimosas at this expensive.
SPEAKER_00Oh, by brunching hard, I'm just saying fries and pancakes.
SPEAKER_02Right, but fries and pancakes for the table, you guys. You guys. It's just it's gotta be. I almost want to open up a place. That's what's called like French cakes. And it's just like uh just a plethora of pancake options and some kind of potato, fried potato options, and you just go, that's it. What else do you need? Potato trots, french fries, shoestring, big ones, curly waffles. Like the big thick uh steak fries. Oh, okay. You just go, you just go to town. I love it. It's just like a barb extract. I did try to exercise, but I'm gonna miss that.
SPEAKER_00I'm really grateful for a break from it because I actually don't really think I ever ate the fries and the pancakes, did I?
SPEAKER_02I don't know, but I ordered like tater tots and fries. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00You were going ham with yeah, you you did that. I saw that. I mean, I support your choices. I am grateful to be back home and take a little bit of a break from that. I know.
SPEAKER_02Is that a good sip on this? I don't know. I'm you guys honestly, sipping on sipping on a 10-day birthday extravaganza is also pretty awesome.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, celebrate yourself always. And we got to celebrate with a lot of people that we love, but it looked dreary at first that no one could make it out, and then a lot of people were able to come last minute, which is super special.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I think extending our stay helped.
SPEAKER_02And extending our stay, yeah. So I would just say celebrate yourself every day. It doesn't have to be your birthday, and always order fries and always order pancakes. Always.
SPEAKER_00Wow. Slip on that. That sums up Zach Man as a person. It does. And then go home and eat birthday cake.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that was You also did that. It also did that. And now I have cupcakes from Susie Cakes here. Oh god.
SPEAKER_00Which are also so good.
SPEAKER_02All right, you guys, thank you so much for listening. Don't forget to like and subscribe and share and download and tell your friends about us and then rate us and go on to the uh Spotify or um Apple pages and like say just like how much you love listening to us because that would be awesome. But we're having a blast doing these, obviously, and we're approaching um an anniversary episode.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, that's true.
SPEAKER_02Which is kind of crazy.
SPEAKER_00Um okay, we gotta go. We gotta go. We gotta eat the lunch.
SPEAKER_02All right, you guys, love you all so much. Love you, thank you so much for listening.
