Do It Scared: Becoming Who You Know You Are with J. Moné
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
What happens when you stop waiting for permission, stop shrinking your gifts, and finally decide to bet on yourself?
In this episode of the Limitless Podcast, Dr. Tony Holmes sits down with singer, songwriter, filmmaker, educator, entrepreneur, and creative J. Moné for an inspiring conversation about confidence, purpose, creativity, and the courage to keep pursuing a dream—even when the journey doesn’t happen on the timeline you expected.
J. Moné shares how her love for music began as a young girl singing in church, how her mother helped build her confidence by continuously putting her in front of audiences, and how her journey eventually led to recording her first project, Bring on the Rain. After stepping into motherhood and building a successful career in higher education, the dream of music never disappeared. In 2021, she stepped back into her artistry and began rediscovering exactly who J. Moné was meant to be.
Throughout the conversation, J. Moné opens up about balancing motherhood, marriage, entrepreneurship, education, music, filmmaking, and creativity without feeling pressured to fit into one lane. She also shares how exploration, repetition, practice, faith, and simply being willing to “do it scared” helped transform her confidence.
In this episode, you’ll hear about:
- Pursuing a dream that never truly left you
- Rediscovering your purpose after different seasons of life
- Why creativity doesn’t have to fit into one lane
- Building confidence through practice and experience
- Learning to bet on yourself even when you’re afraid
- Balancing family, career, entrepreneurship, and creativity
- Using your gifts to move and inspire others
- Creating opportunities for the next generation
- The importance of knowing who you are before allowing others to define you
- Why belief in yourself comes with both power and responsibility
One of the biggest messages from this conversation is simple:
“You are who you think you are.”
J. Moné reminds us that becoming who you were created to be requires faith, work, exploration, and a willingness to keep going—even when you're still figuring it out.
If you’ve been sitting on a gift, questioning whether it’s too late, or waiting until you feel completely confident before taking your next step, this episode is your reminder to do it scared, trust what God placed inside of you, and keep going until you discover what’s possible.
Stay Limitless.
