Hello, and welcome to the B and C, the Black Nerd Culture podcast, where three brothers have deeper conversations about the Black Nerd Sphere and beyond. I am Sean here with Vin and CJ. Today we'll be discussing the anime Jujutsu Kaisen, originally created by Mangaka Gage Akutami. The spinoff anime was produced by Mappa Studio. This fan favorite anime has intrigued its audience with a twisting plot, intense but sometimes confusing magic system, and beautiful artwork on the part of Mappa Studio. Part one of season three is finished, and we're here to talk about it. So with the preamble out of the way, let's jump right in. But before we do that, there's an exciting announcement to make. Now, with the preamble out of the way, let's jump right in. Okay. Overall, I mean, this season probably like the discourse of this season was everywhere. You could not move without uh episode dropping and uh making waves on the internet.

So I it's fair to say every single episode of this season was um memed about, talked about, and just run down this entire season. There's especially some episodes where it's just is it's still gonna be talked about probably years after this is done.

I'm very excited to find out because seeing what Toji did and just the ghost of Toji when he overtook um old boy and uh Shabuyark, um that was Toji was a whole problem.

Yeah, yeah. She fights even uh harder. I mean, I'm not gonna spoil it, but um yeah, there's she does some damage, she does some she gets some working in the um during the calling games as well. So that's gonna be it's gonna be fun.

Yeah. Should we get started with the we're gonna try to go through quickly each episode and uh just talk about um the stuff that went on there and how we felt about it.

Alright. So the first episode is titled Execution. It shows the aftermath of the Shibuya incident, uh, with Tokyo now being a dangerous curse-infested wasteland. The story focuses on the immediate consequences for Yuji and the shift in the political landscape of the jujutsu world. Uh, we also see this is where we're first introduced to the other parts of the Zenin clan, um, namely Naoya Zenin, um, who is the son of Nabito who died during the or actually died shortly after the Shibuya incident. Um so now and Naya uh we didn't really get to know now Bito too too much, but Naya from what we could tell, Naya has fallen far from the fucking tree. He's yeah, a complete asshole. Not only that, he's a sadist, he's a sadist and he's also uh so chauvinist.

He thought yeah, his his first step, the first very first time we see him, he's talking shit about women. Women in general, but yeah, he's but he also starts starts talking shit about uh Maki to their mother, Maki and Mike to their mother, who is attending him at like an assistant or whatever the fuck, meat, I guess. So that kind of shows you exactly what the Zen and Clan thinks of women in general, honestly. Pretty much. Um, so we see him, so uh the will so Nabito's will is read after he he's uh dies, and uh Naia is expecting to get everything, and he does up until the person reading the will uh states that there was a clause that um Toji and Nabito agreed on that if Gojo were to be uh die killed or incapacitated uh incapacitated, then everything would go to Mega B Fusiguro.

But yeah, it was crazy cross-up move that no none of them saw coming. Um so this enrages uh Naya, who feels like he's been kicked out of his own birthright, uh he decides that he's going to hunt down um Megami. Uh and he asks where Megami is. Uh Maki and Mai's mother say he's probably with uh Yuji, who at this point has the execution uh order over his head removed, um no longer is no longer stayed, basically. So he is so Yuji is fair game. So now he gets the idea to hunt down Yuji, um, who basically pretty much everybody, I guess, in the Jujutsu world knows his location or it's easy to get now. And uh he decides that if even if um Megami's not with Yuji, he'll use Yuji as bait.

Not only that, he was designated for immediate execution after Gojo got incapacitated.

Yep, yep, and trapped. Yeah, they wanted his ass gone gone.

Yeah. Especially after the Shibuya incident because uh goddamn it. Because his body was used by um Sukuna uh to cause a massive amount of devastation. Like, and they kind of basically put that on his head. Yeah, like he there were so many people that died in the Super B incident thanks to Sukuna and his him playing, basically.

Just playing. That's that was his his ability is just playing. And we do get to see what happens when he gets serious later, much, much later. Yeah. But um that's gonna be probably towards the end of the series. If we get there, those map of sweatshops are I feel for those animators. I mean, I don't know exactly how uh the money is calculated between views and stuff, but uh uh I mean people had to tune into this, so yeah. So the amazing it's gonna keep going.

What yeah, what was that? Yeah, I mean this was part of the reason why they decided to put the first two together in a movie uh called Jujusukai's and execution, um, and put it out in theaters because it is movie level, it is definitely movie level.

Throughout the entire season of part one, um, it was movie level graphics, and then you have comparisons between this and invincible, and you're like, ugh, yeah, shops are the way to go.

There should be no but there's no but there's no but shut them down, prosecution so so the so the episode actually starts with um Yuji and Choso putting in work uh destroying curses. Um at this point they are intercepted by uh Naya, who says that um who he doesn't know who Chozo is, but he's um addresses Yuji and lets him know that the Death Sends um has the stay of the Death Stance has officially been revoked by the Juju Jujutsu higher ups. And it looks like they're about to start fighting, but we get the pull-up master, Yuga of Kosu.

The pull-up listen, yeah, yeah, and what Yuta does, oh like this is just a small sample. So um Choso and Yuji tried to basically formulate a plan for uh Yuji to get away while Choso distracts Navia and Yuta, and Yuta's not having it, so he is on Yuji's ass as soon as he moves. So on him, on him, and the thing is that at this point, the only person who's been able to keep up physically with Yuji is maybe is Toto, really, and that's because Toto has a mastery of his um uh cursed energy far better than um Yuji's. So honestly, body for body, nobody should be able to keep up with Yuji, but Yuda manages it.

Yeah, and that's just his natural ability, right? And this is also for other there's other reasons why, but um that they we don't get into that in in this part of season three.

So we've um find out that Yuda's been um you're talking about lineage, no, that they brought up that in the movie, no, there's other reasons.

Um so Yuda um announced that he is the uh executioner um sent by the higher ups, and like I said, Chozo tries to uh block Naia and um Yuta from getting to Yuji, but it doesn't work. Um Yuda takes after uh Yuji and uh Chozo's left fighting uh Naya, who doesn't who realizes that Chozo is something else but doesn't know quite what. So he's kind of cautious in this fight. He doesn't go full out because he doesn't know exactly what he's up against. Um, but there this is where you get the meme with um uh Nalya uh running his hands through his hair as he's uh um beating the shit out of Choso. Disrespectful. But um yeah, he's an upstart punk, so it is what it is. Yeah, they leaned into that heavy. Yeah, so you so Yuta and um Yuji fight, which is it's a fairly good fight, but it is quick. Um ends up getting the upper hand and stabbing um Yuji in the heart with his uh broken blade as he is held down by uh Rika, as Yuji is held down by Rika. Um in the next episode we finish the fight with uh Choso and Naya, who even though Naya was overwhelming um Choso for a bit with his speed and his um projection sorcery, uh it's still no match for Choso, who has basically as he's a cursed wound death painting, so he basically we found out that they basically have like unlimited blood and their ability is blood manipulation, and here fucking gay pull shit out of it, listen to I clock it, I clock it.

So he's able to overwhelm um now yeah, um uh uh by basically mixing his own blood with the blood manipulation. Um, what was it, red scale or something like that? Um Yuta after killing, we'll say, Um, Yuji pulls up again and knocks out Chozo and offers to heal um Narya with his uh reverse curse technique uh in exchange for Nanya telling the higher ups that Yuji has been killed. Um Yuji has a vision, as we were saying before. So uh Chozo in the last season revealed that um he knows that uh well what were they calling him before? Um brother Kamo. I'm talking about um Nortoshi Kamo. So uh yeah, yeah. So we Choso reveals that he was created by Noratoshikamo in the last season, and then we see while um Yuji has a vision, and um he sees his father and his grandfather talking about um Yuji's mother. And um having a heated discussion. Well, the thing is you fucked a dead person. Like so his father's like, I mean, yeah, you know, I'm slinging that thing. Like, she's still alive. What are you talking about?

So that's when Yuji's mother comes in, Kaori, and we see that she has stitches across her head, just like Suguru Ghetto. We've been seeing with Suguru Ghetto. Um, and this tells us that the same thing that was in Northoshikamo and took over Suguru Getto's body, also took over Kaori's body.

I mean, the thing is that the first one might have been an accent, but the thing is, like at some point he was probably gonna put like my thinking is this how did that finger get there at that school?

And this was also a plan by Gojo because they knew they would tap Yuda to kill Yuji. Exactly.

And um so Yu to explains all of that, and then Megami shows up and asks for Yuji's help. Um because was his sister or adopted sister?

Like but uh I'm sorry, Megami uh asks for Yuji's help, but Yuji still traumatized about the mass casualties, and also knowing that Sukuna has some kind of plan for Megami, um, declines at first, but then um Megami insists and Yuji agrees and asks Yuta to kill him. Sukuna takes over his body again, and uh Yuta also agrees. And then we get the the much talked about about the calling game episode. The much talked about yeah, because this was this is part of the jujitsu kaizen fans can't read the meme because this was a lot of rules, so it was a lot of rules, okay.

Um but uh we find out that Gojo destroyed both of those. So the only other why did you tell me that? Like yeah, exactly. Well the thing is Tingin didn't know about the rope. Actually, yeah, because yeah, because uh Utah was like, Yeah, we went looking for that shit, came up empty. So yeah. Um so the only other way to get Gojo as a president is by a participant in the calling games named Angel, whose technique cancels out or nullifies um or nullifies um cursed techniques, and they're the only person or only being that can do that. Um so the group formulates a plan. Uh Yuki and Choso decide to remain behind to protect Tingin because Tingin knows that um uh Kendraku will be coming to basically absorb Tingin because now they're basically a cursed spirit. Um Maki plans to go to the Zenin clan and grab the arsenal with permission from Megamu, who is now the head of the Zenin clan, and Yuta decides that he's going to infiltrate one of the colonies to participate in other colony games, and Yuji and Megami go and try to get recruit um Kenji Hakari, uh powerful, suspended third year of Jujutsu high to help strengthen our rosters.

It sees the Jujutsu world sees twins as one person. Um and since one since it's one technique per person, Mai got the technique, but Maki got the um physical prowess that sorcerers get.

Like that's what they want to do. Um but uh after the Shibuya incident, um basically uh Itadori's um uh philosophy is that he's a cog in a machine. Um she tells him that she can she can lead him to Higaruma, and um and so we basically get a parallel of both of them being led to quote unquote Higaruma, um, and that leads us to the next episode, episode 55, where we find out that um Amai was telling the truth, yeah. Um for obvious reasons, yeah. Again, didn't want that smoke. I was like Amai was re was holding something back because there is a scene where he's like you should tell him, you should you should you should tell him don't I mean I should I should tell him what's about to happen to him, but um yeah, I'll figure it out. Basically, he's like, damn it, and he just kind of walks away. And um, so Yu G meets up with um Higaruma and and Megami meets up with Reggie Starr, who is a reincarnated uh sorcerer, sorcerer, and who also has a group of sorcerers, one of them being uh Remy, who is uh reveals herself to be a lazy asshole. She's just like, ah, I just needed along for the ride. Yeah, she's just along for the ride. She's just sh she takes whatever she can get, basically. And um, so we get Reggie basically kind of explaining we get parallel scenes of Reggie and um Higaruma explaining the calling game or their view of the calling game. And Higuruma feels like the you know the calling games are just fine. Uh it's it's the only way to get true justice. Higuruma is a lawyer, and we do get a flashback of him defending somebody who should have gotten off, who should have uh defending somebody for murder who should have gotten off.

So the judge can't the the judge the appeal court cannot look at new evidence, they can only look at what uh was found or the evidence that was there originally, and then make their decision from there and say, Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah.

And um immediately Yuji pleads guilty because he feels so bad about what Sukuna did in his body and killing all those innocent people and all that destruction. Um this basically uh triggers Higuruma to rem because he he knows the evidence before um even though Yuji doesn't. And um he this triggers uh you uh Higuruma to remember why he got into law in the first place, whether it was to defend people that couldn't defend themselves. And um he sees that in Yuji because he knows that Yuji didn't do this, he he was possessed, there was nothing he could do, he was out of his mind, he was he was wasn't in control. So um what we find out is that uh one of the things about the domain expansion is that if you've committed murder, um it gives Higuruma the executioner's blade or executioner's sword, which is an instant kill if it touches you. The domain expansion is called death penalty. The sword is the execution. Domains not called death penalty.

And um Higaruma explains the statutes, like if a person's not in control of their body they found non-compassamentus, so what happened, and yeah, that is a law, um, not being of sound mic, basically. Um which he's not, no. And um Higaruma's like, I'll fucking help. And um he starts and he um uh makes the rule for Yu G um that players can transfer points, and um he actually gives Yuji a point as well to keep him alive. So the next episode, episode 57, is Megami's fight with um Registar and his basically his entire crew. That was a good one, yeah.
