Hello, and welcome to the B and C, the Black Nerd Culture Podcast, where three brothers have deeper conversations about the Black Nerd Sphere and beyond. I am Sean here with Vin and CJ. Today we'll be discussing Spider-Man Brand New Day, directed by Daniel Dustin Creighton, Dustin Daniel Creighton, and written by Chris McKenna and Eric Summers, starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Battalon, John Burnball, Sadie Sink, and Mark Ruffalo. So with the preamble out of the way, let's jump right in.
SPEAKER_06Sadie fucking Sink.
SPEAKER_02I think everybody turned in a great performance. Yes.
SPEAKER_06Oh, yes, but Sadie Sadie did that. Of course, everybody. I mean, I expected it because we had like, all right. I can only judge Sadie on strange things. And like that was a cool role and everything like that. Cool role and everything like that. No, she pissed me the fuck off for that. Yeah. This is a movie. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And there's usually a distinction between TV actors and movie actors. And they didn't feel like that to me with her at all. Right.
SPEAKER_06Like she was there. She was in that pocket.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Usually TV actors feel out of place if they're in a big budget movie. They have and I yes. I guess for the audience, they have to, if you know them from TV, they have to earn kind of your respect in a way as movie actors. Not that TV isn't difficult or it's hard, but depending on the budget. Right. I didn't think I didn't know she would be well, because of or at least the way the trailers made it seem, I didn't know she would be as big a part uh as she was. Like I knew that her part was integral. I'm not saying that. I'm saying I didn't know she would show up as much as she did, you know, because she was because of the telepath thing. Right. You thought she'd be in the shadows a lot more. More. Exactly. Got it. Exactly. Yeah. And she wouldn't get the reveal until the very end. Got it. Especially uh with her being Gene Gray. Right. And dumbass spoilers to start with. I mean I mean, that's just how we out. I know. I'm just saying it's all very because it's literally just came out this weekend.
SPEAKER_03Like, I mean, what did you expect? We talked about it. What do you expect?
SPEAKER_02I'm just saying, and we're 23.
SPEAKER_04This is going to be a spoiler-free review.
SPEAKER_02No. Fuck now. I'm uh listen, just crossing my eyes here. Heavy spoilers. Heavy spoilers. Heavy spoilers. But yeah, Jean Grey. Yeah. Heavy spoilers.
SPEAKER_06And like, like I said, I saw like a behind-the-scenes little trailer thing, and they put her up as Gene. I'm like, okay, so she's obviously Gene Gray. That was there was no, there was no who could Gene be? It was obviously Gene Gray. Yeah. Um and the the trailers were like when I think the final train on trailer, I think, is the one I saw that. Oh, you think I'm Scorpion? And like, I didn't put it together, like, oh yeah, Gene Gray's gonna take over Scorpion. Because it's Gene Gray's Gene Grey. You don't think of Gene Grey as a fucking villain, and that was amazing to see.
SPEAKER_02Yes. I thought that was cool too. I mean, unless she's dealing with Phoenix shit.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Please let's leave Phoenix the fuck alone this go on. We'll see.
SPEAKER_02No, because now they've set the groundwork for it, though. True. But they turn in a villainish role depending on how the Phoenix manipulates her. Right. Because the main problem with the Phoenix is that it normally comes out of the in the movies, at least. It normally comes out of the blue. It's just like, ah, now she's now she's possessed by some space into the alien thing. Or she's just she's really, really mad. And the Phoenix is part of her dual personality or whatever. Now we see how dark she can go. So it's not gonna be a surprise if it shows up again. True.
SPEAKER_09Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But I don't, I mean, we're ways away from yeah, that's a that's a while away. At this point, they're building this a 616 version of the X-Men, and it's very as you could see, like uh we'll jump around as usual, but by the end, it seemed like she was going upstate. So that's what I thought, too. Yeah, fairly likely she might come across Xavier, if not going to the school already. We'll see what they do with that, right? Because she's definitely headed upstate. Yes.
SPEAKER_03Yes, she was, absolutely.
SPEAKER_02But overall, I think everybody returning a great performance. But this is the most queens I've seen Tom Holland since his since uh his arrival in Civil War. One, I'm glad that you know he's they let him do the adult voice now, right?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, that the little kid Peter was kind of annoying.
SPEAKER_02I'm glad they let him do a big boy voice, so I'm happy for that. I was happy when I heard I saw it heard it in the trailer, I was like, okay, cool. But no, he he is queen, his accent is queens, queens. Yeah, like especially when he's talking like um detective the wolf. Yeah, that shit is full on queens. I was like, oh, okay, and the Spider-Man games had this nigga be as queens as no, like he is not like in regular media, even still like the old Spider-Man cartoons and stuff like that. He doesn't put on a New York accent. Not really from New York. Yeah. I thought it was great. We did a great job. All right, um, do we want to get into the synopsis? Yeah, we can start there. Uh and uh, you know, you know, chop it up as we go. So, first I just want to for the uninitiated, Brand New Day combines two Spider-Man stories, Spider-Man the Other and Spider-Man Brand New Day. The other is one of my favorites, by the way. Yeah, the other is a great, great uh run. Written by J. Michael Shrasinski, one of the greatest. Uh and the first uh the other takes place um before Marvel Comics' first civil war, because there's two now. Um there might be a third, I don't fucking know at this point. And um, and the comic that Spider-Man No Way Home was loosely adapted from One More Day. And the other, uh Peter Parker is given a death sentence by a doctor and then the greatest minds in Marvel. But none of them know uh was that Peter was evolving into a more spider-like being, not man spider, like we've seen in like the car the cartoons and stuff like that, but something other. After the evolution, Spider-Man gains enhanced abilities, including an enhanced spider sense. Additionally, Peter also gains organic weapons. Um in uh brand new day, we see the aftermath of One More Day where Peter and MJ make a deal with Mephesto. We've talked about him in um Iron Heart, Marvel's Devil, uh, to trade their marriage and the memories of them being together to save me's life and restore Peter's secret identity, which he willingly revealed to Civil War. So it's a combination of those two stories, and I thought they did it pretty well.
SPEAKER_01I think it I think we always have to uh give Leeway to the adaptation to the MCU adaptation because they're always going to do things differently.
SPEAKER_02But yes, I I think overall they did a good job combining the storylines and making it about Peter and his loneliness, his um desire not to see anybody else get hurt, especially dealing with uh the aftermath of No Way Home. Yeah, and that's kind of written all over. And the the reason why I said everybody turned in a really good performance, like it's not that they didn't before, like um, because what always comes to mind is um uh Peter was um uh Tom Holland when he's at the end of uh or towards the end of um homecoming when he's trying to get the uh when um vulture basically buries him under rubble and he's trying to get it off of him and he's he's like I can't do it on he's trying to he feels like he can't do it on my own, and then he psych himself up. I that's amazing. Like Tom Holland, Zendaya, uh Jacob, everybody turns in a great performance. It's just that this one really felt personal, right? Like it was a personal story. And that's what Daniel when Dane Daniel Dustin Crane is allowed to really go there, he can go there. Um, that's part of the reason why I was disappointed with some of Shang-Chi because you felt like he wasn't allowed to really explore the familial ties between Gang Chi and the Mandarin and his sister. Um, I felt like there was so much more meat on that bone that they could have done with, but you could tell it was probably studio constraints that they gotta get to the big monster um that didn't allow them to really explore that. Because I really felt like there was something there, especially the scene where they're together eating. And that's a great scene. I love that scene, and you could tell there's the ghost of their of their mother, Chang Chi and um his sister's mom there, and you could tell Tony Lewing is an excellent actor, but you could tell he's honing in on that, and you kind of get choked up in that scene, but there was only that one scene, and this one you really could like at any point in time really feel like wow, this is like the emotional gut punches were there. Yeah, there's more sad web swinging than I than I've ever seen than any other spirit. Oh man, that thing where he's taking her back home, that was awful. I was like, that's brutal. So I just jumped her ass off at a cab and just so brutal.
SPEAKER_06Oh my god. It was also a real shit where it's like you gotta take can you can can you take me home? Right.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it was real, like you like yes, that's a good way to put it. It was real, it was real, like after an awkward breakup or something like that. Yes, that can happen, and that's yeah, that's funny. And I think we uh especially as adults, we've all been there. Yeah, we've all had that awkward moment where it just won't end. It's like you have to do things now with this person, and for whatever reason, and it's still awkward as shit.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that awkward yeah.
SPEAKER_02In my penchant for almost getting us canceled, I'm not gonna say anything because Zendaya is a queen, but I'm gonna say homies before honeys. Well, we do see that later.
SPEAKER_06Oh, you as got I I I respect Zendaya.
SPEAKER_04I wouldn't I will respect your repivot.
SPEAKER_02And Zendaya is a queen, so I'm not gonna disrespect her like that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Respect. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But that could have went left. That could have left. Yeah, that could have went left.
SPEAKER_01But I've been thinking about it. I've been thinking about it.
SPEAKER_02Had it been anybody else, I'd have said what I had to say. I would have said what I had to say. Had it been anybody else. Looking at you, Christian Dunst. Exactly. Yeah, looking at you, Christian Dunst. Had it been your MJ. Especially after Spider-Man 2. Oh.
SPEAKER_06And of course, um Yeah, speaking of her MJ, I was like, oh no, we're not about to do this. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03We'll get there though.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah. I was like, oh, don't you dare.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I'm kind of glad they didn't. This one won. Yeah. I did feel bad for the homie in uh Spider-Man 2.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, definitely. So in uh in in the MCU's brand new day, we follow after that's the aftermath of uh Doctor Strange's spell that uh the world forgets that Peter Parker exists. Four years later, Peter has been anonymously protecting New York as a celebrated hero Spider-Man, but he but has distanced himself from those he used to know, including his ex-girlfriend MJ, uh, and former best friend Ned Leeds. Um, so we see basic him fighting all like a gaggle of rogues. Um we see him fighting Scorpion, um, I think Tarantula, um Boomerang. Yeah, the hand, boomerang, and just a bunch of other people. And it's just yeah, tombstone.
SPEAKER_06I know I heard myself say it. I was like, geez.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. The tombstone scene was funny because it gave him a little bit more time, and uh uh DeWolf, the Gene DeWolf, the detective that uh Spider-Man's communicating with, actually talked to him and he's like, you know, like trying to get out of the web.
SPEAKER_03That was funny.
SPEAKER_06Spectre Marvin Jones, the third. Marvin Jones III? Yes, Marvin Jones. I was known the crondon, so yeah.
SPEAKER_02I do hope to see more of his tombstone because of course, you know, it was a montage too. They didn't get a lot of screen time. But he did have a bate, man.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, baiting a switch. I was like, you dirty bastards.
SPEAKER_02I get it. I do like the fact that out of all the people, and we'll get there, of course, uh, out of all the people they chose to have give more screen time to for the rogues, um, they did um a solid from Matt Gargan, who had been waiting, I'm sure, waiting to be the Scorpion for since homecoming. It's been a while. So they gave him a little bit more to do.
SPEAKER_04I respect it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, absolutely. But yeah, hopefully we do see more of Toonstone because he had a good line. Um like he did feel intimidating. I do feel like you could do more with him, even if you don't do it with Spider-Man. Hopefully, eventually Daredevil will be in the movies and you could do more with him there too. Either Daredevil or he could show up. I would like it if he showed up in like um Luke Cage. If they do um if they do do fingers crossed Heroes for Hire, right, Luke Cage would actually that would actually be a very good like the Black Lightning-esque, but yeah, it would be a very good tete à tete um between Tombstone and Luke Cage. Yeah, I think that would be cool. Yeah, um, but we'll see what happens. Uh I don't know. I don't know. With uh Mark well yeah with the MCU doing shit. Yeah, dropping Wonder Man and Um Blade. I don't know man.
SPEAKER_06What was was Tombstone who who's whose rose gallery was he mainly part of the Spider-Man, usually Spider-Man. So he he might still be a part of Sony.
SPEAKER_02Quite possibly Sony might still be a part of that. That's a good point. That's a good point. And if you think about that, yeah, it could be Sony's thing, and they could oh that that scene, everybody like this. Let's do a tombstone movie.
SPEAKER_06Oh, I hope I don't do that. I hope it I need Sony to just let it go. Just keep it let it go. Just they're never giving it back, man. That's their cash cow. They're not because the the games, all that they they they they yeah, they they eating like fuck. It's only only good thing they got because they let the MCU take control. All right. Um thank you, Kevin Feige, because it needed to happen. Um but yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it'd be nice to see more to um we uh so the next scene is um Park Peter intervenes with a tank rampaging through the city um that's headed for the Department of Damage Control. And this is where we um sp we see Spidey Collide with Frank Castle, the Punisher. Let me mister Let me tell you something. I did I was wondering if they would water down John Bernthal's performance, but no, like the only thing he didn't Frank.
SPEAKER_04He's Frank, absolutely Frank.
SPEAKER_02The only thing he didn't let fly was any F-bombs. He was funny at the end, but still uh Frank allows himself every so often to, you know, be that guy. Especially like you could see this as very much a crossover comic, where and yeah, and the running joke in in the comic books is that Spider-Man is very different in other people's comics. So same thing with the Frank and the Punisher in uh Spider-Man comic. Right. And like he like it reminded me a lot of season. I just recently rewatched the Punisher series. It reminded me a lot of season two with um because he the person that he's helping in season two is a is a kid. Um and he he says talks to her the same way, yeah. And uh so and then when uh he says he says something, you know, untowards or whatever, and she corrects him, he's like, nah. It does the same thing and the series, it's just that they they didn't give him a chance to go all blood and guts, which that's fine. Yeah, it's so PG 13.
SPEAKER_06They they navigated well for Spider-Man looking at it. Yeah, yeah. I mean, they even like gave him a chance to get that F and then Spider-Man stopped PG 13, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. It's like wrong comic, Frank.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_02But I do I did like this same Netflix, exactly out of I mean the MCU has always felt like a comic book come to life, but this definitely felt like a comic book come to life. Yeah, I love their back and forth, it was amazing. I love their back and forth. So good. I've been waiting for this forever because if people don't know the lore, John Bernthal and Tom Holland got helped each other get their jobs as Spider-Man and Punisher. When they were working on a movie together, they heard about the um auditions for Punisher, and they heard about the audition for Spider-Man. And um Tom asked John to film him doing flips and stuff like that. And um and John was like, Yeah, but if you fill help me with this audition, it was like, Yeah, so they got they helped each other get these jobs, and to see it come full circle is so fucking cool. Not only that, but the Punisher appeared first appeared in Spider-Man, yeah. Spider-Man. There's just so many layers of brodom here. Yes.
SPEAKER_06Also, he was first in in Spider-Man comics.
SPEAKER_02Yes, uh-huh. His first appearance was in Spider-Man, he was hunting Spider-Man before a false allegation, I think. It was um the jackal, which is a very at this point little known Spider-Man villain, but he was a big deal in the early like the first 100 somehow issues of Spider-Man. He was a problem. Um Green Goblin before Green Goblin.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, in the uh what was the late 90s cartoon, early 90s or mid-90s cartoon?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he showed up more actually, I think it was a spectacular Spider-Man. Are you talking about or you talk about Punisher? And talking about Punisher. Oh, yeah. Punisher, yeah, he shows up in the 90s cartoon. But yes, the actually the jackal does show up in I think it was spectacular Spider-Man. That's the only iteration that we've seen the jackal.
SPEAKER_06Jackal wasn't in the other one? I can't see it.
SPEAKER_02I didn't know the jackal existed until I got I think uh I got a um Punisher compendium and it collected like a bunch of Punisher comics, and of course it collects his first appearance. And I read that, I was like, who the fuck is the jackal? So then I see later on when I'm watching, I think again, I think it's spectacular Spider-Man because I and I had a short run too. Um I think it was maybe what three seasons. Um, but he shows up there, he's like the main bad guy. There is no Green Goblin in that one, I don't believe. It's Jackal. No, no, uh Green Wait, and Spectacular? I think it's spectacular. No, actually, no, the uh Harry's Green Goblin and Spectacular. Right. So yeah, um after I think he gets the Jackal formula or something like that. Probably. Yeah. Um, but yeah, the yeah, that's the only iteration of the Jackal F. Well, like a Spider-Man cartoon that nobody watched. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Uh says Marvel Spider-Man.
SPEAKER_02Is it Marvel? It might have been, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06I didn't watch yeah, I didn't watch that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_06It works out at all.
SPEAKER_02But um, anyway, the Brodom is awesome. Yeah. Uh oh this guy.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I've seen that before, but I don't know where the fuck I've seen him for.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. That's pretty much everybody. Like they seen seen him before, so that's pretty much everybody's like, oh, this motherfucker. Yeah. Yeah. Jack, yeah. He's it's because he looks he looks like he should be in Green Goblin. And it's like they took they did take parts of Green of Jackal and put it in Green Goblin, and it just completely was like, fuck that, we don't need the jackal no more. Yeah, exactly. Pretty much, pretty much. Fuck that guy. Um, but yeah, I don't know what he did. Throughout the comics, apparently, but yeah, he is not as much of a force as the Green Goblin. Definitely, definitely like he got relegated to like D status. Yeah, especially again, like um when the comic first began, he was like one of um Peter's man bad guys. I think there's like five a five issue run where he's fighting against the jack or something like that. Um and I think it includes one of these ki one of the uh Punisher comics. So after dealing with Castle and catching up the and disabling the tank, Spidey Realizes that the driver has been telepathically possessed as the telepath body hops from person to person to help Matt Gargan and enhanced criminal uh Spidey previously captured escape. Uh after that, Spidey makes inquiries of uh Yelena Balovo, which I did not know Black Widow was gonna be here. No, that was definitely a good surprise. And fun too. Um, it's nice to see. I do like to me, this is how the MCU should act. Whenever you need a superhero or you need a cameo, they I'm not saying they should be available, I'm saying it's it's cool to see that the cameos are readily available. Yeah, yeah, and and well, yes, yeah, yeah. I don't I didn't have a problem with this at all. It's like they're not out of place, they do make sense in the world, and uh, you know, Gillian is yeah, I mean Florence Pew's Florence Pierce is in all times, she's awesome, yeah, yeah. But uh it is uh she is very much still herself, and uh, you know, it's not out of place. Oh, and speaking of before we move on, at first I did think Frank would be out of place, but given the so the the a the source material, but also given the circumstances of the situation with Peter finding loneliness, basically. That's his main villain, is this loneliness that he has. It does make sense that the Punisher is in there, is there right? They're a mirror, right? Exactly. And I like that they didn't concentrate so much, like um in the Daredevil when the Punisher first shows up, the main thing is their ideology. And I like that they don't they don't even really talk about it. Like they're certainly he's just like I'm gonna do what I do, right? Yeah, but we all know who what that means. Exactly, but you can tell they probably hash that out because they were because they they introduced the Staten Island situation or this incident that they had. So more than likely, it also introduces the fact that they've worked together before, they know each other, and uh, you know, he knows what the Punisher does, he knows what Spider Man Punisher knows what Spider-Man does. So yeah, right. They got that out of the way. Yeah, like we don't need we don't need to rehash ideologies or anything like that. This is he's there to be a mirror, it's not there to show the differences, right? Yeah, and they're they did a phenomenal job doing that already in the in Daredevil, so not rehashing that was yeah, you know, uh like it's normal for TV shows that jump from movies to TV to rehash shit that we've already seen, but yeah, because it's like uh we don't know if they watch this. Exactly, exactly. But we hear if you didn't watch it, too bad. Exactly, exactly. And if you don't know, come on now.
SPEAKER_03I mean, come on now by now why are you yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_02Um so they do do a good job just kind of like getting it.
SPEAKER_06Just run into it, yeah. Yeah. Um, real quick, um, just because I have it up. So as far as the jackal Miles Warren shows up in the 90s cartoon. Oh god, he shows up in Spectacular Spider-Man. Oh, Jack, yeah, correct. The jackal shows up in the 2017 Spider-Man. Right. Oh god, thank you. Um in the 90s one, he was trying to clone Hydro Man.
SPEAKER_02Right, because he does do stuff with cloning in the um comic book run. I would just I did a quick glance, and he's involved in the clone saga, which nobody likes that, yeah, that's right. Yep, yeah, yeah. Which makes sense, yeah. The jackal is probably why he got relegated to you know the black hole because nobody liked the clone saga. That's probably part of it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, could be it's probably part of it.
SPEAKER_02But I I think honestly, I think they dusted him off for the clone saga because it's not because again, like uh in the comics, I think there's a long stretch where nobody even talks about him. Yeah, and then the clone saga happens, yeah, and then everybody hated it, and they were like, this was a bad idea. Yeah, but there's a reason why you belong in the dustbin. So they get his ass back in the dustbin.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, most uh so many of his clones are fucking Peter.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Jeez, yeah, jeez. Um yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Kind of, yeah, I understand. Um yeah, so that's that. That's that's the jackal. Um back to Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So Yelena tells uh tells him someone has repeatedly attacked the DODC in search of VMAX. Uh Parker then goes to the DODC director, Bill Metzger, who claims ignorance over what VMAX is. And uh due to but he does see that Peter has the ability to sense the telepath, and is partially immune to their power. So Metzger enlists uh Spidey's help in capturing the telepath. And the comics, William Metzger is an anti-mutant activist and leader of the anti-mutant militia. I do like I do like the twist here. I mean, people there's gotta be like the black communities that you know I read on writing and stuff like that, or and other things are not happy with the fact that he was played by a black man because of the you know the bigotry and stuff like that. But they they twist it in a way that's like, yeah, anyone can fall for this. We have and not to get too political, but we have black ice agents, we have Hispanic ice agents now rounding people up. So it's like and uh the thing is like coon are you gonna be exactly like it exists, yeah.
SPEAKER_06So oh if it's a thing, like what okay, so we're gonna be mad that it's it it it's showing on TV like the I mean look look look the the the inclusion is the inclusion people like right the person who the good and the best the the person who aced the audition is the person who aces the audition, okay? Right. We we can't keep begging and choose uh you know picking and choosing cherry picking the hell out of this shit. It is what it is, but I do think they did the MCU version better than oh 100%, you know.
SPEAKER_02He's not an out and out bigot, he is doing this more trying to use this shit exactly right to further himself, further his career, further his ambitions.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he's a it can happen to literally anyone, anyone, yeah, especially when they get a certain amount of color any color creed, uh gender preference.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it could have literally gender swapped um him and the same difference. This story, it doesn't really make a difference to who he is. He's just an ambitious asshole who doesn't care who's how many hurts to drop. Very affluent, very like he's like, I mean, you could tell there's something up with him, but you're like, you know, I don't know where this is gonna go in the beginning.
SPEAKER_06Um you ain't got your spidey sense for that. I mean, as a viewer, this might not be a avenue for you.
SPEAKER_02But so, and we do see flavors of his leadership. Spidey even compliments him on his oration. He tells him that um he's like it's a great speech, director. And um when he's uh when he's given them sales pitch to help them. And the thing is, like, I'll say this he never lies. He never lies uh throughout the movie. The only time actually he lies is uh Spider-Man catches him out on him. Yeah, exactly. He lies later. Other than that's the only lie he tells, but it's he he really believes what he's doing is for the betterment of what he's doing.
SPEAKER_06He and he tells the version the best version of what he's doing.
SPEAKER_02Yes, right. That is a good good shout. Yes, he tells the best version of what he's doing, just like anyone else would tell their side of the story, and it would put them in a better light constantly. Exactly.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, right. I mean, he's the best kind of snake oil salesman, yes, exactly.
SPEAKER_02He believes his own hype. Exactly. Um, we later see Parker has a chance to encounter uh chance to cattle with Ned. Um he sees him at a bodega uh buying shit he's not supposed to be buying. It's like um basically like stay awake juice at um five hour college. Yeah, yeah, basically some random ass name they gave it. Shark energy, shark energy, yeah, shark shit like that. Yeah, I'm shark. Some shit like that. Yeah, it doesn't we all know what it is.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, make sure you don't sell that to me. Give me two, then don't sell it to me.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, hilarious, hilarious to me. So we see um my man Batalam got that got the scene, right? He's so good, like he's got Ned down, like Ned Ganky is what I is what I call him because it's more like he's Ganky from what to call it, the ultimate series. But when do we want to get into the comparison of not just the ultimate series, but also in um the Spider-Man uh video games as well? Oh, I mean it's all over it's all over the action scenes. Not just that, the you can't tell me the scene where we'll I guess we'll get to it, but the scene where he's talking to Aunt May wasn't pulled straight from Spider-Man 2. Okay, fair point, fair point. Yep, I get what you're saying. But um so Peter basically starts to follow Ned to see where he's at because he figures because he figures where Ned is and basically probably gonna be. So he follows he follows uh why are we using why are we using the word basically?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, straight up follow people.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. And he I mean he'd been following them online, uh thanks to um Ned. Ned's you know, constant blocking, constant reels, and stuff like that. He's been following their journey through school and stuff like that through this entire time, just watching them from afar. Yep. Um, and he follows Ned up to um his and MJ's apartment where there's a big party going on, so he kind of blends right in. He takes a um cup from somebody, so I I leaned over to my eldest because my eldest daughter, me and my eldest daughter were watching it. I said, never do that. Yeah, absolutely. My wife 100%. My wife actually said, Why would he why would he take a cup from a stranger like that? And he's like, because he's a guy. I sat there and thought about it, bro, bro. Yeah, absolute stranger danger. Yeah, absolute stranger danger. So I I leaned over to the never.
SPEAKER_06That is party mode, but I'm like, bro. And then he took the sip. I'm like, dude, you don't know what's in the cup.
SPEAKER_02You have no idea what's in that cup, sir. You have no idea. You could not tell just by smelling it. There's no way you could know. So no, I leaned over to her. I was like, never do that. She's like, I'll never do that. I won't drink anything that I don't pour myself. I was like, Awesome. Because she's going into college soon. So great parent moment, right there. Yeah, exactly. Thanks, Spider-Man. For reels.
SPEAKER_03Meaning to bring this up. Showing us, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Uh um, we see uh Ned and MJ don't recognize him. He gives them a fake name, and um then Ned is uh starts showing him all of he's basically tracking Spider-Man, and he even creates an app um to show see where Spidey is, and he says, you know, he just wants to meet him to say thank you because they remember Spider-Man saving them throughout the movies, the other movies, but they don't remember who he was. Right. And again, that's reminiscent of the game. They they use Spider-Tracker a lot, especially in Spider-Man 2. I think Spider-Man uh Miles Morales because Genki is uh Miles' friend in the in the game in the video games. And then that's where they introduce it. Right, and in the comic book. So it's like it's an ongoing thing that they you know they borrow a lot heavily from the um video games, which makes sense. It's a good they're good sources to borrow from. Yeah, I'm not mad at it either. No. I mean it's a good combination of the best. Yeah. So yeah, they like you said, if you're gonna borrow somebody, borrow from the best. So yeah, I I think that it it served the movie well.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_02Um so we see um MJ talking with her boyfriend, and they share a kiss which Peter sees, and he sadly he leaves the party abruptly, and we see the first sad sad web singing swinging scene. Yep. Um, and it hurts, you can feel it, and it's all over Tom Holland's face. And it's the just the pain he feels just from because you know, it's not like he could be mad about it, but it's still like, man, like he he still holds out hope that they that maybe part of them remembers somewhere, right? And that's why he still has the letter that he wrote at the end of No Way Home explaining to MJ who he was and uh uh to Ned and MJ who he was, but he never gives it to him because he doesn't want them to get hurt. But um, but yeah, he's he's heartbroken. Um and this is where his um metamorphosis metamorphosis begins, or at least starts to show up. Um so detective when he's stressor exactly. So when he's talking to um detective DeWolf earlier and one scene, she's asking him if he's taking care of himself like a mother, and um and um still having my headaches, yeah, and asked him about the headaches, and he's like, Oh fine, I'm fine. Um, but this is where you see where we see it all come together. Um, and it's it's his spider DNA is um overtaking him, basically. And um we see him the next scene, um, he we see him in a waking up from a cocoon. Very much like um there's uh a uh panel on the other where that happens. Yes. Where Peter cocoons himself and begins metamorphosis into a more spider-like man. Um we also see that um he the cocoon is upside down, so when he opens it, he falls out of it. We we've all seen the scene in the trailer, and he flips uh trying to catch himself just instinctively, even though he doesn't have his web shooters on his wrists, and organic webbing comes out. I am surprised he never makes a spy uh Peter 2 reference at all. He does, he does, he literally did. Yeah, what did he say? Because I might have missed it.
SPEAKER_06It was when um he fully he was like after the the uh shooters fail, right? Yeah and they said you can't use the organic and the uh shit. He's on the sh on the roof trying to practice. He said, you know, uh Peter 2 had organic uh uh webs, but it's kind of interesting. It was when he's like uh touching his wrist. Yeah, it's like he's like real quick. Yeah, he's this guy. He says it out loud though.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he says definitely says it out loud. He says Peter 2 had a gram webs and he was cool. So this is cool. Cool. This is why he's trying to psych himself up about it. Yeah, I see. I don't know where the fuck I was. Maybe I was in maybe I went to the bathroom or something like that. I can't remember. Like I had to go twice, sir. I'm not gonna sit there and piss myself. You go stop getting a big gulp. I did.
SPEAKER_01I'm old, sir.
SPEAKER_05You control your bladder.
SPEAKER_06So we see I'm like, the hell's disrespectful.
SPEAKER_02So anyway, moving along. Uh as everybody was saying, uh, the next scene is um Peter trying to adapt to his new powers and his new abilities. Um we see him overloaded with um sensory input, his a his um AI uh sensors are going crazy watching his vitals and telling him you're in sensory overload. Um after he kind of gets a handle on it, he tries to swing with his um new organic webs, and he has so he presses on his wrist and he after psyching himself up with Peter Two Talk, and he almost vomits like ah, yeah. Because it just comes out like uh like just gross, like you know, this never happened to uh he had a full spawn yeah, hilarious, hilarious, and this this is why I rock with him as Peter Parker, because that it was Spider-Man, because that's something you would see in a comic or cartoon Spider-Man do, right? Because I could 100% see that in a panel, yeah, not in very true problem, and not be out of state, yeah, very much. Very much so.
SPEAKER_06I'm like that. That's him.
SPEAKER_02That that right absolutely, and the fact that we see him talking with his villains and quipping with them and stuff like that. We I could see this Spider-Man meeting Ryan Reynolds Daredevil. Absolutely needs to be. Yeah, Ryan Reynolds Deadpool.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02It definitely I think he would defin it they would definitely get on and have their issues, but it would be very it would be a very fun story. Yeah. Especially after seeing the back and forth between him and Frank as well. Yeah, you could and a lot of that was actually improv. They just kept the surprise.
SPEAKER_06They did what they needed to do.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so I could definitely see them having like uh doing improv with uh Deadpool and um and uh with Ryan Reynolds and Tom just going back and forth. I would love to see that. That'd be hilarious.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02Um uh Spidey tracks down Mac Gargan, who is now possessed, and as he tries to break into the DODC, uh the telepath mocks him, and Parker reacts with uncharacteristic violence, beating Gargan into unconsciousness is severely seriously injuring a responding police officer. And this the wolf is uh everybody saw what happened. He literally takes Scorpio's tail and yeets him into the police car, and it kind of everybody sees what's happening, but nobody some people are some of the cops draw on him, but other cops are just like, what's going on, man? Yeah, because he's been it's been four years of him non-stop helping. Yeah, he even gets the key to the freaking city. What worries me is that I don't know why the movies always insist that New York or the cops will be okay with Spider-Man. I understand to a certain degree, but the movies always insist on this, and I'm like Well, the thing is he's a He's your friendly neighbor with Spider-Man, bro. Well, it's not just the the movies, it's also um the cops video game as well. Yeah, they don't just draw on Spider. That would be a problem. But yeah, um, and again, the video like the video game does its thing, but also, you know, they're not giving him the key of the city. Like they're you know, it's not usually with Spider-Man because of J. Jonah, that's also because of J. Jonah Jamison's influence, people are always mixed on Spider-Man in general. So to see like this, and this is just a me thing, but just to see, you know, uh how openly accepted he is with everyone always gives me the ick a little bit. It reminds me of the.
SPEAKER_06Well, I mean, because you also gotta think about he's been doing this for what? Four years. Six years at this point, yeah. Six years, yeah, in total.
SPEAKER_02But also you have you know what I mean? There's another portion that you have to think about. And because this is what bothered bothers me about the comic books. There are superheroes, max superheroes running around all over the guy. That is true. So to single out Spider Man as the bad guy was insane. Yeah, yeah. I mean the same thing happens to the X Men, too. Well, the I will say they're gonna the MCU is gonna have a Uh a hard road to hoe with yes X-Men being not accepted as accepted as like say the Avengers are or whatever, even though they do the same shit, like uh the Avengers get you know uh uh uh louded and stuff like that, even though the city's fucking destroyed, you know. So so they're gonna I will say this to show the prejudice in X-Men, because that's a major part of the story, right? Yeah, is it's gonna be a long road. But I do again think that they set up the building blocks here very in this movie. Very easy. They set it up very nicely to where if Jean's ever found out, or if they ever find out who caused all this destruction and you know what power she has, yeah, the meal in question will become a big thing. Well, not only that, well, and again we'll get to it, but now we have somebody whose ambitions are were destroyed because of her.
SPEAKER_09Right.
SPEAKER_02So we now have a built-in bad guy who's 100% going to out her. So I could see him being the first bad guy in the whatever X-Men movie they make, or at least behind the scenes. True. So, but yeah, I what bothers always bothered me about the comic books and them just dogging on Spider-Man just for shit it was just for shits and giggles, because you have Captain America running around, you got Thor, everybody else. Like, okay, the Hulk is a is a it can be a problem. I get why you would be reticent about him, but Spider-Man? Wait, for real?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, like Spider-Man, like they they they do nothing but see him helping.
SPEAKER_03Right. Exactly.
SPEAKER_06So that's why personable with everybody, right? He's personable with the cops, like he exactly.
SPEAKER_02That's why the animus always awesome.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. So is the what?
SPEAKER_02You you have one out for a little bit, the what's the that's why the animus towards um Peter always bothered me. Like you literally you have like uh thousands of these motherfuckers in the comic books just running around doing their shit, and but you sing a lot of Spider-Man? The fuck?
SPEAKER_06Like I can understand if it was higher ups, because you know, like the higher up you go, the more you have to, you know, you have to be responsible and shit like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But the ground, the straight up just officers, the the the ones that walk in the beat. What up, Spidey? I see that I can't.
SPEAKER_02I'm okay with that, and I'm okay with his relationship with Gene DeWolf. It's just the fact that um it's just the fact that the entire city, like uh the mayor on down is like, yeah, Spidey's cool. I get it, I understand. Yeah, it's just something that's always bugged me in throughout the movies in general. I didn't like the originalist. I guess. Yeah, because uh even in uh the Amazing Spider-Man movies, I think did a better job of that. Where it's like we don't want to help him, like he, you know, he's a vigilante, like, you know, but we should still help him. Like they're reluctant about it, or like the crane scene in Amazing Spider-Man, they're reluctant about it, but it's like this is the right thing to do. I will also say this like part of that might also be from Daredevil fighting King Mayor Kingpin, Mayor Fisk. And because the Daredevil literally got the city behind him right in um uh Born Again. So it m some of that might be turning basically turning a new leaf away from Mayor Fisk because yeah, towards the end he was yeah, it was wolf. Wow. It was real bad. So it was like with the new mayor, they might be it might be an opportunity to show, hey, everyday citizens can help. Right. You know what I mean? And we're not mad about it. Right. Even though he's not an everyday citizen, but whatever. You get the get my meeting. Yeah. Um so in uh so after uh uh Dolph tells him to basically get a shit together, um Peter goes to see one of the foremost uh people on radiation and genetic mutation. He goes, see Dr. Bruce Banner. And so uh we see uh uh Bruce teaching class at ESU, uh and the kids of course are mostly there for Avenger stories.
SPEAKER_06Man, that one kid, that one kid that he called on. Yeah, I saw him before he called on him. Yeah, and when he called on him, oh gosh.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they're nerds, they're all nerds. Yeah, so after this class, um Peter starts to talk to him about his inhibitor device, and uh Bruce kind of comments on that he's not a student or not a student at ESU. I'm gonna not his student. I'm gonna do another side rant here. Um, I do like the fact that they sidestepped the uh Thanos question about uh creating more resources instead of uh getting rid of half the galaxy.
SPEAKER_06Super wasn't an answer though.
SPEAKER_02No, but but there is a real answer, and I like yes, Thanos is a psychopath psychopathic maniac, but you all right, I'm not gonna get into it. I'll wait.
SPEAKER_06Well, it's kind of it's it's kind of cool that they brought that in because that was the whole thing over the all the internet. It was like, well, it could have just done this. Yeah, it was nice that they brought that question into the movie.
SPEAKER_02But that's not how fucking energy works. Even if we're like even if we're talking about magical shit, fair. There is an exchange that needs to take place, and you just can't create infinite shit, man. I and I agree with Sean on this. Very point. Very fair point. Far more energy to create than it does to destroy. Exactly.
SPEAKER_06It does. That's what it does.
SPEAKER_02And it would have literally killed Thanos, and he still wouldn't have made it infinite, right? It would have been it's a lot easier to get rid of half of the galaxy. Again, I'm not agreeing with him. I'm just saying the calculus makes sense when you actually stop to think about it. You cannot do that.
SPEAKER_06The cold math is the cold math. Exactly.
SPEAKER_02The cold math is the cold math. It's not fucking possible to create infinite resources, and not only that, the population will grow to match the resources and overrun planets, galaxies. Literally, that's how it would work. Like it would still happen. It's just overpopulation would run rampant.
SPEAKER_06And we needed a reason for him to be a villain. So calm.
SPEAKER_02Exactly.
SPEAKER_06So not a barry-ass movie.
SPEAKER_02Right, exactly. We needed a how about this? We needed a fucking villain, okay?
SPEAKER_06Be a villain. Don't try to explain the villain.
SPEAKER_02What are you doing? Yeah, but that's always bothered me among other things. Bothers me too, because it always comes up. It's always a question. It's like, oh, why don't you just double double the resources because the population will grow to max resources? Not only that, it takes more energy to decrease than it does to destroy, etc.
SPEAKER_06etc. And even if you even if you increase the resources, it's so that mean like if you increase the resources, right? How do you increase the resources?
SPEAKER_02Basically, there are so many fucking questions.
SPEAKER_06There's so much only so much land that's the stuff can grow on.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they even magic can't solve, like, like especially on this world. Yes. You're absolutely right.
SPEAKER_06Weird fucking deforestation, yes, all over the place.
SPEAKER_02Like it would destroy ecosystems. It would literally like doubling the rates or making infinite, whatever the fuck argument they can come up with, it would destroy ecosystems. It's a lot easier to remove things from the board than to add them and fuck up an entire ecosystem. The and the better argument to me is that if you do the better argument because also destroying things or just removing living things from a habitat will also fuck up the ecosystem. It is eas but it is easier for the ecosystem to rebalance after destruction than it is from abundance or overabundance. Right, exactly. But as as we've seen, you can't easily subtract that bitch without you know a super magic fucking gauntlet.
SPEAKER_09Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_02But it's also and also, and this is the end of it, it happens in nature too. If um fish are if there's too many fish in a in a habitat, they'll start to eat each other. Same thing with rabbits, they'll start to eat each other.
SPEAKER_06And it's like, people, this is why there is legal hunting. Right. It is population control. Right, right. Exactly. Sorry, sorry, folks. Sorry. Right. If you didn't know, that's why they allow deer hunting. Exactly. A certain amount of uh uh certain amount you can get, there's certain rules, you know. You can't, you know. I work around hunters, so I hear all this stuff living in the Midwest. You know, they they have rules, you know, you can't uh certain deer, you gotta be a certain age for the deer. Um you can't there's a certain amount of I think males that you can hunt, but you can't hunt so many females or something like that. It yeah, it it's it is population control. Yep. Hunting licenses are population control, is what it is. Not gonna lie, it's circle of life. It's it's it's circle of life as well. Because they're not hunting these deer and just uh doing it for sport, most of these they're using, they're they're using the deer.
SPEAKER_03We had a guy make us a teard.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, not to the extent of of of the actual native uh uh population. Yeah, even they at least they at least like you said, they're they're they're they're stocking their uh pantries and or uh freezers of uh deer meat. Um they're using that to offset how much they buy meat and stuff like that. People who uh raise cows, raise like cattle, cows, like not dairy. They are selling these cows after they reached a certain point, and they're stocking their uh shit of beef. It's it's the circle of life. Yeah, cattle.
SPEAKER_02Even if we all became vegetarians overnight, we would still need to control the population of sand animals, especially like deer, and then like we still have to figure out a way, right? Yeah, and that's the thing. The thing is that Native Americans, we got that idea from not idea, but we got that from Native Americans, one of the few things we actually listen to from Native Americans.
SPEAKER_06I won't, I won't, I'm gonna, I'm just gonna step on my little pillow thing here, except for the certain population that runs everything, every native um population of any wherever they are, use this same style. They used everything around them.
SPEAKER_02Exactly.
SPEAKER_06Everything.
SPEAKER_02But they were aware of population control, they were aware of crop control, they were aware of all this stuff, and that's what we learned from them. Like we had like, of course, we overhunt a buffalo, of course, but they would always leave enough for more buffalo to continue. Yeah, they also knew that overrunning buffalo would be a problem. They understood the control of it, exactly, exactly, and that's why we have the regulations we have today. And respect for it. Some people have to pee in the pool to figure it out. So, yeah, uh but they brought it up. We didn't, so that sorry for the tangent, but they they started it. The movie started it. Um, so Parker speaks to Bruce Banner about uh the inhibitor device that suppresses his alter eagle, the Hulk. Um, and based on Banner's advice, Peter is able to fashion an inhibitor to limit his surging spider DNA, and a second universal inhibitor to suppress the telepath's abilities. So this is the first glimpse that we see of the power dampening collars that we see later in X-Men and uh um throughout all of X-Men media, actually. And that's gonna be that will dovetail really well with um Spider-Man skill complex. Yeah, because there's no way they didn't copy uh I'm sorry, copy. Oh, absolutely. Soon as they got ones.
SPEAKER_06Oh, yeah, soon as they took possession, yeah, yeah. Rear re engineering uh rear reverse engineering is correct. Oh right.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, there's no way Metzger didn't uh get the plans for that. So we will be seeing that later. It wouldn't be Metzger because he's in the wind by the end of the movie. Um they right, but you don't think he took damage control. Yeah, damage control. It's in general, who's ever control in control of damage control, and I'm sure he did too, but yeah, they more than likely definitely took those, took that shot.
SPEAKER_06Like the people who didn't know about damage control before the movies.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, now you know.
SPEAKER_06They're they're they're they're most governments. Right. Right. They're only good as far as they need to be. Right, exactly. There's an always an ulterior motive.
unknownYeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so no matter who's running damage control by the next time we see them, they're going to have those power those uh power damper. Like it is, it's just it just makes sense. Smaff.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_06As soon as I realize he worked for damage control, like, oh okay, it's just waiting for the chew to drop.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. But I 100% believe Metzger uh has those plans too, and is probably gonna use them in his and more than likely, I believe he's gonna raise an anti-uman army or liberation front or whatever the fuck you want to call it.
SPEAKER_01It wouldn't shock me.
SPEAKER_02Or at least I think he's going to lie low, and then when the DODC is out of options, they're gonna carry no one. More than likely, and he'll be there, you know, the brains behind the operation in the quiet in the shadows. Yep. Yeah, that's how these things work. Um one thing I do want to point out, I did finally understand why Mark Ruffalo, two reasons why Mark Ruffalo doesn't do Banner Hulk all the time, because he's still Banner Hulk here. Um, or he can still channel do Banner Hulk. But, you know, A logistically, realistically, Banner Hulk wouldn't fit through fucking doors. Um so that'd be a problem. It would also be a major distraction to what he's actually trying to do, which is teach. Like, yeah, so that would be an issue. Also, in real life, it it's the same reason why uh Lu Frigno's Hulk didn't show up till the end of the fucking show. It costs a lot of fucking money. A CGI ain't fucking cheap.
SPEAKER_01It's a good CGI, but it ain't fucking cheap. Right.
SPEAKER_06That's crazy. If you want it good, it ain't gonna be cheap.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. Right exactly. So yeah, so I finally wrapped my head around that concept when I just thought, okay, yes, he's in class, he's teaching. Being the Hulk would be a fucking distraction. They he's already distracting with you know his just being an Avenger, just being an Avenger, but now you know, being the Hulk in the middle of a sh uh of a class would just be like no one's learning anything at all. Not a damn thing. They're just asked how much you can bench. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. One guy.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So um after a failed field test of um his inhibitor, uh Peter's inhibitor, the telepath finds his home and taunts him after learning about MJ. Um they begin a race to MJ's apartment, but unbeknownst to Peter, the telepath beats him there and possesses MJ. Um, very good. I'm still trying, okay. So we do we know her radius, right? So how the hell did she jump? Did she beat him there, though? The thing is that we think we know her radius. And yes, it is 33 feet, but A, she's cunning. B, she's more powerful than we think she is, than we know by this point.
SPEAKER_06Sure. Sure. Okay, I agree with that. But and couldn't she just what you got? So my question is so thirty.
SPEAKER_02Oh no, she could have traveled. She she could have traveled herself to where I'm saying, like, couldn't she just pull back and then jump again? Yeah, yeah, fair point. Yeah, that's fair point. Just you're up to right. And then you're gonna just stuck it. Because what happens is that um one of the people that she jumps into is a helicopter pilot, and uh she flies a helicopter towards MJ's place, but Spidey catches the helicopter and what's it to a crane, and um after figuring out her rate jump radius, and it's like, ah, there's nobody for you to jump to over here. But you're absolutely right. She can just end uh the possession in one person then start a new one in another. We actually see her for the same, I think, multiple people at one point. Like by the end of it, when she really exactly when she really boosts like she when she gets that rage boost, basically. Yeah. But um, so yeah, the you're absolutely right. She could have just pulled on and just be like, okay, let's start again.
SPEAKER_06Or because she was in his uh in his apartment time.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, she could have easily just like doo do do do do do do also begs the question why the fuck didn't she just smash his shit? She didn't know about the Amber. Well well no, I mean just in general, just she could have just smashed the entire like she knew she was there watching him tracking her. Why not just smash the AI and all this other, all of the other concepts? No, she was all she was only there because he kept getting in the way. Right. So she didn't want to be malicious. She didn't know about necessarily. Yeah, she didn't know what he was doing or what he knew about her. Oh no, it was on the computer screen. It kept flashing back and forth between the him and the computer screen while she was there. Right. So hmm.
SPEAKER_06I mean, at the same time, I mean he still is like a hero. She just wants him out the way.
SPEAKER_02Right. She's not so yes, we can we can uh put it to the fact that she's not malicious necessarily.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, she she's just about her business.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_02Right. And stay out of mind. Also, I don't see what the point would be to smash the stuff. It's already in his computer. Like he's got it, he's got a HUD. Like there's nothing he more than likely has backups and stuff like that. So that's fair.
SPEAKER_06Like her her her goal is not to destroy Spider-Man, just making you fuck along. Right.
SPEAKER_03Because if she wanted to destroy Spider-Man, she could have.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, her goal was never to really destroy anybody she was looking for her sister. Right. Um she had that one goal. It's just if you got in the way of that goal. Right, you're a problem. At that point in time that you're in the way of that goal, you're a problem. But it wasn't to destroy anybody for real.
SPEAKER_02But and also she gets what she wants because Peter concedes defeat after narrowly saving MJ. Right. Um so but he also gets a glimpse at her while she's driving or having somebody drive her away. Um, and it the photo gets uploaded to his hood. So he um is able to use that later. Um, Peter takes MJ to Frank Castle's hideout to keep her safe. Of course, Frank has a place, it's a basic old shipyard, and um the play Frank has a place completely fucking booby-trapped and with a gigantic propeller, by the way. And I don't know how he got that bitch up there up in the air, but yeah, it took a lot of work. But yeah, he uh so they argue back and forth about um what happened to Staten Island, and he he spent he's like you owe me Ribbon's Tad Island, they go back and forth about it, and uh you get a cut a lot of Frank Castles, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Like, you're gonna keep using this, you're gonna keep bringing this up. Yeah, yeah, burnt all that ass. Yeah, that let me tell you something. Yeah, that that yeah, that amazing work brought to the role of Fred Castle.
SPEAKER_02Right. And apparent apparently this shows up in he's not just outlibbing that. Though let me tell you something, it shows up in scripts all the time. That's so he can't get away from it. That's what that's what the thing is. So he's not outlibbing that, it's just that it shows up in the script. He's like, I got
SPEAKER_05I'm just it might have been out at the beginning.
SPEAKER_02It may have been Al at some point. But he definitely when he does the end of the punishment, I can't remember what movie he's interviewing for, but this co-star um asked him is like they put that in the script. It's like, yeah, it's in the script.
SPEAKER_09Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So that's cool. But um, but yeah. Um so with Castle's equipment and MJ's insight, uh, Peter completes both inhibitors. And he's like, Oh, sorry, that was a that was a great moment.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I got all that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I was gonna have all that. MJ immediately bombs. Bomb bombs, bingo. Like, bruh. Of course, MJ takes a liking to uh Frank because uh he's just morbid. And vice versa. Yeah, that's what I was saying. She's still MJ at the end of the day. She's still her morbid self. Even though she's grown up, basically, by this time. Um so there uh Peter's also able to discover um the name of the telepath, which is Gene Gray, which I was like, yes, because the there were rumors around about that. It might be Gene Gray, but it also might be to set up the um MCU X-Men series. But it also might have been Typhoy Mary, who was another redhead telepath.
SPEAKER_05Sir. Sir, sir. What? You didn't it okay.
unknownIt's fine.
SPEAKER_02I figured it was Jean Gray, but also I take into account the boner joke that Kevin Faiggy threw in to WandaVision. So no, I didn't put it. I was I wasn't gonna trust them completely about this one. No.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah, what's boner joke?
SPEAKER_02Um, when we got thought we were getting Quicksilver.
SPEAKER_06Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and it turned out to be a guy with his last name is Boner. Boner, yeah, yeah, the boner joke. Yeah, so no. So yes, I'm gonna be on the I'm gonna be on the lookout just in case.
SPEAKER_06Ah that explains what because like everybody in the theater is like, yeah. So I'm like, you can put this together.
SPEAKER_02It's no, everybody is it's not that we didn't know that it was Gene Gray, it's just that it could have been somebody else.
SPEAKER_06Final, absolute 100% can't lie, can't bullshit, Gene Gray. Exactly.
SPEAKER_09All right, was that hard?
SPEAKER_02Yes, Kevin Feike. I heard it. I heard it. I'll never not be mad about that. I love Ellen Peters, I love her as Quicksilver, completely fucked it, whatever. Never getting that back. Fine. So um so Gene uh Peter tracks Gene back to DODC, but this time she has a Hulk. Um she possesses uh she possesses a Hulk. Uh he's uh actually in this smart Hulk or Professor Hulk persona, which I like to call him because that's the way I was introduced to him.
SPEAKER_06That's that's how I know him is Professor Hulk Hulk. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um But during the battle, something breaks within um Professor Hulk, and uh he's no longer able to control him, control the savage nature as it was before, and now we are back to the savage Hulk. Yeah, I did like during that fight because uh MJ that big yeah, MJ uh encourages Frank to go save Peter, um, like with Staten Island. He needs help. The hilarious thing is Spider-Man clocks is like, you're out of your fucking weight class, man. This is the Hulk. Right. He's like, I'm just gonna he's like, I should have brought a different gun. He's like, what, to tickle him lift? He's gonna do jack shit. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_06People just waste ammo on him, and then when they uh start divvying the things up, and then Frank says, uh, well, you take care of this, I'll take care of that.
SPEAKER_04He's like, You just trying to get out of fight fighting a Hulk, and he's like, Well, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Obviously.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_06I mean it happens to work out that way, yeah, basically.
SPEAKER_03Without being a bitch, I'm a bitch.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, basically, 100%. And I mean, it's the fucking Hulk. It's fucking Hulk, bro. What are you gonna do? It's good that you realized his limitations. Absolutely. Instead of all of his bullets bounced off, and this was just Professor Hulk, yeah.
SPEAKER_06And I mean, and he was full on Frank June.
SPEAKER_02Yes, yeah, I love that he comes in screaming as he usually does when he's got an automatic weapon in his hands, like this throughout all of the series, and I was like, okay, yeah, it wouldn't be Frank if you didn't do that. So, like John, you could tell, and I what I love also about all this, you could tell that they love each other, uh John and Tom, but you also tell that they love the characters, right? And that's why they can play so well off of each other is just and stay in character because they know the characters. When people ask John about being the punisher, he gives he could give you a dissertation about that shit. Right. The same thing with um with uh Tom and Peter Parker slash Spider-Man. They could give you a dissertation about being these characters because they love them so much and know them so well, right?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah, when casting casts for real, it's it's an amazing thing.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_06Looking at you, Witcher.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02And the thing is, like, uh you a good director is gonna let John do his thing as punisher. It's like you know the fucking character. What's he gonna do when he comes out? Well, he's gonna yell while he fires automatic weapon. They yell while firing automatic weapon, sir. That's what you do, that's what he does. Do what you do. I'm gonna say action. Get messed up. All I gotta do is say action. You do what you do, and that's a good director.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_02So after Peter is able to subdue the Hulk, there is so there's a moment in the comics after um after the aftermath of One More Day where Hulk and Peter talk, and um Peter's like, You remember me? And Hulk is like, Um, Ben I forget. Hulk always remember. So uh so they kind of have that here, even though it's not set up anywhere else. Yeah. It does bother me a little bit because like when were they ever interacting? Yeah, when were they ever when did they ever interact with each other before uh which before no way home? Right. It's like that's a stretch, but I'll take it they kinda no never, never not ever. No, not which one because actually wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, there was a scene with um uh an infinity war when Peter shows up to help um Iron Man and Bruce and Bruce is there. So kind of it's a stretch. It's a stretch, but but they did technically meet. Yeah. But he says they're friends. I'm like, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Friends, right.
SPEAKER_02So uh uh we'll let it slide. Maybe maybe it's like an off-screen thing like Staten Island. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Fallujah, not with Fallujah, was it? That they ended up shooting. Oh, about Black Widow.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I know I remember what you're talking about, I just can't remember the name of Budapest. You and I remember Budapest very differently. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. And they show us Budapest. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06I enjoyed Black Widow, but it wasn't. Anyway.
SPEAKER_02Anyway, let's move on. Completely different movie. So um after being able to subdue the Hulk and um or at least get him to calm down, uh, Peter goes and uh subdues Gene uh right before she um goes unconscious, she says a name, Sarah. Sarah. Um after in the aftermath, uh Spidey questions Metzger about uh why she would say that name, and Metzger says that uh Sarah is a recently deceased colleague that Gene probably learned about while possessing his mind. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06He said while she was in my head, I was thinking about the Sarah person, and yeah, that's probably what latched on.
SPEAKER_05Yada yada yada.
SPEAKER_02Bullshit, bullshit. Yeah. So um when Peter uh returns Is that my gun? It's awesome.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Uh thank you, Frank.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So uh when Peter returns, MJ confronts him with the letter he wrote for her and Ned, explaining the spell that erased their memories. He explains himself and declares his love, but MJ apologizes because she does not know him or reciprocate his feelings. Right. Yeah really well. It's a different MJ. She's a different person now, after and after all the experiences she's had. Right, exactly. Like and she does say, you know, she's grateful that he saved her and wanted to keep her safe because now she's this person, but she's not should the MJ he loved no longer exists. Because what are we if not our memories? Right. Feels right, yeah. All caps. So uh he she decides to tries to leave, but remembers that they are in the Punisher's abandoned shipyard. So so she asks for a ride back home, and we get another sad web swinging. Saddest ever. So sad as ever. But um he lands and she I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_04Thanos killing me with that.
unknownWebstop.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah. That's what he was saying. I was like, what is he saying?
unknownWebstop.
SPEAKER_02Now I couldn't why oh, he was saying that because he's getting used to his power organic webs. Webstop. Yeah, he was using his organic webs. That is a good detail because I did not know what the fuck he was saying, but that actually being good.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah, he did it when he was uh bringing her there. Right, and he did it on Webstop.
SPEAKER_02It's rough, buddy. Yeah, and it's also just sad too. Like it's funny, but it's also sad. But uh so she wants to.
SPEAKER_06And I actually I might be wrong. He might not have said it on the way back, but I know he said it on the way there was Webstop. He was trying to do it mad quiet, so she wasn't paying attention.
unknownWebstop.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, she invites him up to the apartment to meet Ned, who again is a huge Spider-Man fan. And um they're his friend, yes, yeah. But um, so they immediately, of course, hit it off.
SPEAKER_06Um, Spider-Man's in the vicinity.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, wow. So um, yeah, Ned's uh Spidey Tracker goes off, and um, yeah, it's the Spider-Man's in the vicinity. Spider-Man I'm in the vicinity, I'm in the vicinity. So yeah, uh again, they hit it off because they're they were best friends, and um they're building Legos together talking about uh web it webs and stuff, uh Spider-Man's webs and stuff like that. It's like because his the first question he asked him is about having to use the bathroom. It's a very net question. It's a very net question. Really reminiscent of him finding out that Peter Spider-Man in Homecoming. Yes, yes, yes, all of the questions that um he asked him are but they're different this time, they are different this time, which is it it is personal question, isn't it? But it's never like a scientific question because we see that because um Peter's like, What you don't want to know about the webbing? He was like, Well, I figure it's XYZ and he just breaks it all down and it's like, well, shit.
SPEAKER_04And then he's like, Well, maybe not that.
SPEAKER_06And he figures it out, he's like, hmm, could be, yeah, right.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. So um when Ned goes to Garrett to get food from uh the uh delivery, uh I'm sorry, the food delivery comes.
SPEAKER_06Um this man said, I got five. We got Spider-Man here. He's not calling hungry, right?
SPEAKER_02So um MJ and uh Peter get another moment to themselves, and she's tells him, You could tell him, you should tell him he can handle it. And um, he they bring back her drawing because I don't think we saw it in the last couple of movies, actually. So this was homecoming. She says one of the things she's was she's in detention, and the person doing detention is like, Why are you even here? You don't have detention. She's like, I don't like drawing people in distress, and she shows a picture of the teacher who's doing the detention. It's like that's you, so we see her drawing Ned and Peter, but Peter with his mask off. Like, actually Peter, not Spider-Man. Exactly. And um, she's like, You guys, I can see it. You guys uh would be best friends. Um, and like I said, she tells him that she's he should tell Ned, um, and then he can handle it, and some but uh, and then they start talking about the pos uh the possession, and MJ says it was like a light switch going off. Like I was was there one minute and then I was another place the next. And then Peter starts to put two and two together that there's no way that Metzger could have known what was happening during the possession. So he lied. And um that's he asks Yelena to um figure find out more about what's happening with the DODC, and she finds that there are some redacted files that have a person's name, Sarah, um, connected with Gene.
SPEAKER_01And um it does go to show how well connected she is, think because she's been drum marched to the beat of uh Valentina's drum.
SPEAKER_02So it does it helps. Right. So we find out that Sarah was another telepath who was kidnapped by the DODC. Um, and then we go to the DODC as we see a capture Gene asks Metzaker what VMAX is, and he honestly answers. He says she says that it's the last message that she got from her sister, and Metzger honestly says he doesn't know, and um, but he is surprised that um he was she was able to communicate with Gene outside of the room that they're in because the room is basically built for telepath to defeat telepath. Um, and um one of the uh scientists there uh says there was one last giant spike um and the audience was together that she's gone. Yeah. Um, and then shortly after um Jean realizes that V Max is a fading text on the label of the air vent above the holding cell, and that was the last thing Sarah saw before she died. Which is a great um a great little shot because it's like yeah, this thing only existed to Sarah, and you know, she's looking for this thing that doesn't exist because her sister is dead, right? And it's it's it kind of it's interesting because there's always this extra shadowy cabal type of thing with you know extra with um extra legal uh government bodies and stuff like that. So it very well could have been so we're on the ride with her, been like, okay, what the fuck is VMAX? What the fuck is it? It's gotta be locked up there, right? Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Right, exactly. 100%. There's no reason why we would believe that they're not lying to her, but in this instance, it's they're telling the truth and it's very fucking sad.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. They had no idea what the hell V Max was. No, they wouldn't even know she had said Vent Max, wouldn't even know that that was the fucking circulation system that they had at the Vents. No, right just paid them motherfuckers to do their shit and get the fuck out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, right. But it was the last thing her sister saw before she died.
SPEAKER_06Like, has she gotten a janitor from the DOD? Maybe. Right. Oh yeah, sorry, DOD. Open Maxes. Janitor or maintenance man or somebody like that. Yeah, they would have known, but maybe, but V Max.
SPEAKER_02Completely nope. But um after the realization, Jean becomes enraged and her abilities grow more powerful. She psionically locks the city around her. Similar. Not only that. Um, I turned to my wife, I was like, she's not just a telepath.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, she got telekinetic in her.
SPEAKER_02She's also one of the most powerful telekinetics in all Marvel history. Marvel history. She is an Omega level mutant.
SPEAKER_06Because I was waiting for that to happen. Right. And then I was like, okay, here we go. Finally got it. All right, cool. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Because she so not only does she lock everybody in psionic, like you were gonna say with uh Professor X, right? I was actually gonna say it was reminiscent of Wanda. Right. And Wanda V, because that's it's part of what happens to Wanda. She doesn't necessarily lock everybody down with her power, her powers are different, but it's a similar reaction. True. But Professor X and the X-Men movies would do that often too. Right. But it was another there too. Yeah, that that you're right. That is another shout out. I've always was like, well, he's like kinetic. He free he does freeze people in time, but he freezes their minds. He freezes their minds.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, but didn't he have to have cerebro to do that?
SPEAKER_02He can do a small area, but in the movies, he was having he in the first movie, she no, second movie, it was the second movie, um, X-Men 2. He uh Whatchamado I forget his name, but the mind control mutant was uh making Professor X use Cerebro for that to freeze everyone in the world and basically or every mutant in the world and basically kill them because the monster in the stasis, you can't breathe, you can't move, you can't do anything, you will die. Right. So yeah, she and I leaned over to my daughter, I was like, because she hasn't seen any X-Men stuff, so I was like, she's I was like, Jean's dumb, powerful, a dumb, powerful telepath, and then I leaned over when that happened, and it's like, and she's also telekinetic. Yeah. The same thing for my wife, but she knows she knew she knew ball.
SPEAKER_06Hey, because I was waiting for her, I was like, we just follow focus on the telepath this movie. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but yeah, but it makes sense that she wouldn't know the full extent of her abilities because she was being trained by her sister, who's just a telepath. Right. Um, so uh there's telekinesis.
SPEAKER_04There it is.
SPEAKER_02Right. Peter shows up to um the DODC, he fights his way in, and um that's when around the same time is when her powers go off and frees everybody. Um and he all oh, and this during this fight he also Yeah, go ahead. Yep. Oh um Peter is partially immune, as we were saying before, so he doesn't get affected, even though he's at the epicenter. Right, and that this is also when he goes up against a mind control version of the hand again and kind of accepts his himself or his powers, his new abilities after you know getting his damn big ass honking web shooters cut up and destroyed. The only thing that bothered me about that was that it's so goddamn precise. Yeah, like it could have been a little bit dirtier, you know. Like um, he gets some smash, but it protecting itself or whatever. And it's just like, nah, this motherfucker is so goddamn precise with the sword, he comes in and cuts that bitch up without her arming arming Peter whatsoever. It's like, yeah.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02I did like the fact that they did introduce or tell us a reason why his web shooter is so fucking honking is that they're they do extra stuff like the web grenades, which is also from the games, but still an awesome addition to like his um ever-evolving gadgets in a way. So again, showcasing Spider-Man, how smart Spider-Man is to do stuff like this. Yeah, and I did love that he has his own AI and he kind and I I want to say like he and it's rudimentary though, because it's like scrappy. It's like him putting scraps together and creating this stuff as usual. Tony Stark did this in a cave with a box of scraps. Sorry, exactly. So I what I think happened was because it's he has a fabricator there as well. I want to say like he went to Happy Hogan's place and robbed him. And like maybe or like took parts of it.
SPEAKER_05I thought he had something from I thought that thing that Tony gave him. I thought Tony gave him that.
SPEAKER_02No, so it was the last one of the last pieces from uh uh what's it I don't mean like Tony personally gave it to him, but it was like okay. Yeah, he did get it from Stark Industries, like that was one of the last pieces that Happy actually could take home. Or no, he Happy stole that shit. He wasn't supposed to have it. Yeah, that's right. He just he just stole it, right? Yeah, you're absolutely right. He did up and just steal his shit. They even ask, were you supposed to have that? Right, so uh so I like to think that uh Peter records this should be from Happy in the same way that Happy Records do from Stark Industries. It's possible, but I think it seemed like basically a 3D printer version. So I think to me, in my mind, I think he made that himself because there was no the power, the what was powering the original fabricator in No Way Home was a was a reactor, was a Stark reactor. That was nowhere else. That's fair, that's fair, that's fair. But um so as as you were saying, uh Gene controls the hand and um has Peter fire them off when he and that's when he accepts his abilities and um uh gets to Gene and tries to uh stop her from killing Mesger because that's what she was about to do. We also see it around the same time Frank is setting up a sniper rifle outside of the perimeter of her influence. And I love that. Yeah, yeah. I may say I yeah, like I'm gonna do it in my own life, but I do love that because I did turn him out if it's like he's also a master sniper. It's like this, like it really does like it is very true to the character, and it's what Frank would do with a with a major threat. Yeah, his very first instinct with a major threat is take that bitch the fuck out.
SPEAKER_06It don't I need distance, right?
SPEAKER_02And also we see that he's not actu uh 100% wrong because her bubble is starting to grow as as she holds it, because we do see that the bubble is starting to move. Oh, I didn't notice that a little bit. Yeah, it does move a little bit. It was creeping, yes, it was definitely creeping. Like if she hadn't been stopped, it could have been all of man all of uh New York. Right. Or she's that powerful, and still Yes, she is definitely that powerful, but also you're kill like uh eventually it would have killed the people within the bubble no matter what. Right, because it can they're stuck, yeah, right. Um we also see that Mary, Jean, and um uh Ned are caught up in the bubble as well. Um so Peter uh and um Jean have a heart to heart, and um she he's she saw someone says, Don't think that can't uh jump into your mind. Uh I'm more powerful than I was before. And he invites her in, and this is when he sees um she sees Peter talking to um Aunt May, who tells him and she kind of takes his place because it's kind of the same thing. So Aunt May is telling him that you know things are changing for him, his power is growing, and but that's still okay because the people who love you will still love you. Um we also saw um back when uh uh Jean was in the DODC remembering her sister, then them talking about how their mother abandoned them because of their powers. Um but uh that kind her seeing the kindness of May.
SPEAKER_06And once again, Aunt May's talking ojutsu undefeated.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, 100% undefeated. I mean, she gets she got it from Ben, is what I'll say. But yes, Aunt May's talking ojutsu undefeated, it's unstoppable. You cannot beat Aunt May in a talk no jutsu competition, she will win, and then she'll make you make you feel so good about yourself, like and so I do like it didn't hit me with the same emotional resonance, but I do understand why people were because it's like I've seen this before in Spider-Man 2. There was a very resonant or very poignant scene in Spider-Man 2, spoilers for the game, where Peter couldn't save Aunt May in the from the first game, and that is the pain and hurt he's carrying into the second game. Yeah, and very similar, uh, that is the core of his pain, and that's very similar to what he's dealing with at that point, too. Uh, just that that's the core of his pain in this whole situation. He couldn't save Aunt May.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, because he was uh he had a standing appointment to always bring flowers to her grave and talk to her for a little bit at the tombstone.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. So Jean backs down. She decides not to kill Metzger, but at the same time, Frank fires um his rifle. Um, and I was hoping, I was like, please don't kill another goddamn mutant off. Like, please don't just introduce her as just to fucking kill her. You guys need to set up the fucking X-Men in the universe.
SPEAKER_06The fuck not that pivotal of a role, right?
SPEAKER_02Exactly. Like, okay, Quicksilver not being Quicksilver, fine, whatever. I guess bitch, whatever. But you can't get rid of Gene Gray after just introducing her. So it was like, please hear that rifle, man. So during the during the heart to heart Peter does hear the rifle and um moves Gene out the way and takes the bullet for her.
SPEAKER_06And this was did he hear it? Was it just the Spidey Sense overall?
SPEAKER_02Spidey sense, and he I will say that because there was a click and he heard he did hear the shot. So so it is so we'll we'll say it's spidey sense, but yeah, we'll say it's a long time because his his senses are heightened. Right. That was his is this was his enhanced spidey sense. Yes, correct. Yeah, correct. So yeah, so he knew the shot was coming and moves her out of the way and takes the bullet for her, which does a lot to restore her faith in humanity. Yeah, he took that shit, yeah. And um, I was like, fucking Frank. I was like, God damn it, Frank. Just one more minute. And hear the oh yeah, yeah. Um, so but that also it's also the tragedy of Frank Castle because once a bullet fires, you can never take it back. Right. And it has and the bullet has no name on it. So yeah, that's one of the things he lives in fear of. He doesn't fear much, but one thing is one thing he does fear is somebody an innocent taking a bullet that was meant for somebody else. The the right a rightful person. So and we see that actually in the show as well. And then the second season we explore that. Um, so Gene uh as uh Peter starts to bleed out, uh Gene uh starts to breathe for him. She basically takes over his body and starts to breathe for him and keep his system going enough so that Frank could get him to the hospital, to a hospital where he um gets surgery and survives. Um and in order to get Peter out without suspicion, even though nobody would have known who the fuck it was. Yeah, that was unnecessary. It was so unnecessary, but I think it was something he wanted to fucking do. It was it was a great, it was a great moment.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it was a great, it was a great moment between the two of them.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so before that we see um Peter, uh Peter wake up and we see that Frank is by um his side sleeping. We also see the picture that um MJ was drawing, which I really hope he took with him.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_02Space is just out there, so but we learn that Frank was has been basically keeping up his identity and kind of keeping people away from him, just you know, who doesn't need to be there, uh, or who don't need uh and I'm I'm sure the Punisher being there, one you're not gonna tell him to fucking go anywhere, and two, you're not gonna go against whatever the fuck he tells you to you know you don't know this guy. I don't know this guy. You're right, you don't know his you don't need to know his name. I don't need to know his name.
SPEAKER_03Can I give you a shirt?
SPEAKER_01Don't fucking worry about it.
SPEAKER_03Can I get his blood type? Yeah, let me tell you something. Let me tell you something.
SPEAKER_02You don't need to know his blood type, you just work on him, and then yeah, yeah, you you don't not do what the punisher is a regular ass human being. You don't not do what the fuck a punisher carrying a bloody Spider-Man into the hospital says to do, period. So yeah, um so uh they have a great moment, uh touch moment where uh Frank tells him, you know, him jumping in front of the buzz never seen anything like that. It's like besides I've seen beer bravery, but what you did that's something else, and so they have a great heart to heart. Um, and then Peter leaves and it's like, I got you. Frank is like, I got you. He puts on the Spider-Man mask and waves to the people and does poses and shit like that, and everybody and nobody notices Peter except for this one kid who's with his father, and he sees Peter and he gives him a little twit sign, and Peter returns it. Um and we see that Peter accepts that he doesn't have to be alone in order to be Spider-Man. We also see Gene, as we said before, headed upstate. Possibly to a school in Connecticut. We'll see. We will see. Um, she also we also see um uh Peter after he gets better um talking more from Detective the Wolf, and he you know tells her to say hi to his her kids, and but she's also telling him to just relax. She knows about the shooting, and she's like, We've got this, or you need to recover. Um, and the whole city knew about the shooting shit. Yeah, of course. But um, yeah, yeah. Um, but and so then next we see um Peter see Ned at the same bodega that that he had seen him at before, and he decides to you know say hi, and he introduces himself with their old school, you know, their childhood handshake, and that triggers a memory in that. Peter.
unknownPeter.
SPEAKER_02And that's where the movie ends. We do go ahead, go ahead, go ahead, go ahead. So we do have a post-credit scene where Ned's Spidey Tracker app appears to show Spider-Man um located in outer space. So uh more than likely that is for Secret Wars because that does take place out uh outside of Earth, if I remember correctly. I believe so. We'll see what happens with Doomsday because yeah, I'm we'll see what happens. And that's the end of the movie.
SPEAKER_06And I I wanna say that that uh that moment with Ned kind of calls bullshit to MJ.
SPEAKER_02That's the thing is that I that's what I've said, that's why I said homies before honeys. Because maybe MJ didn't believe like didn't remember. I don't think MJ did remember either that or she wanted to keep her relationship going or whatever. I don't think she does remember him. I think because of Ned's bond with Peter, it's a stronger bond. They've been together since childhood, right? For so much longer. Yeah. Um, so I buy that. I do buy that. I'm not I don't call bullshit on that because of how strong their bond is. I could see why you would though. I can understand it. I could definitely see why you would. I but I did have to I said the same thing. Yeah, it's a fair comment. But I said I said the same thing, and then I thought about it. I was like, they've been friends and doing that fucking handshake for forever. Like you can bury only so much, right?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, well, I actually I mean it was a fair point of like I forgot how deep that right they've been they've been tight. So that's that's very fair point. I still think that she might have a glimpse or two.
SPEAKER_02She just I think she has an inkling. I think she I think there's something buried down there.
SPEAKER_06I think at least it it that scene at least shows that there's a possibility for him, right?
SPEAKER_02Sure, right. I think also because she's changed so much and because they've both changed so much, it's possible that she doesn't want to jump into something. A, she's got a relationship going, B, it's possible that like she's always kind of been a believer of change. So who knows how he's changed over the years? Who knows how she's changed over the years? They might not be as compatible as they once were. So they are different people at this point. So she so to her point, who knows if the same relationship, like, yes, that's love, but who knows if they could keep that going into this new life?
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_06Well, I think I think it's gonna be something that that there's at least a possibility of it growing.
SPEAKER_02Yes, that's exactly what I was getting trying to get at. Sorry, yes. That's also something like if he sticks around, if he stays in her life, it's quite possible that something could grow again. So I think that's possibly what she's looking for.
SPEAKER_06Which which I think they're gonna they're gonna they're at least gonna be friends, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, of course. Absolutely, absolutely.
SPEAKER_06I'm sure uh her and Ned are gonna be integral to his, you know, they're gonna be Team Spidey again.
SPEAKER_02Right. And if anything, it gives them a chance gives her a chance to fall in love with him again.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_02Where he is now and where she is now.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. So yeah, it kind of gives it gives him a chance to tell the love story again. Which, to be fair, a lot of people didn't like what happened with one more day. Like a lot of fans were upset that they because uh at this point, uh Peter and MJ are married, you know, so like just leave it the fuck alone, and yeah, one more day kind of destroys, but it gives them a chance to fall in love again. But that's the that's the far side thing, but and they've been married for all these fucking years. I mean, they've been together for all these fucking years and now recently been married, so it's like the fuck, okay, like we don't need to see it again, right? We don't need to see them fall in love again. But this is this is I think a better version of that because the because we do get to see them fall in love again, and they weren't married, and it wasn't it wasn't even they were in love, but it wasn't close to that yet. But sir also the circumstances are different because in one more day they do it to save Aunt May, who's already, no offense, old as shit. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They don't have hot me in the com in the comics. It's it's old crusty Aunt May. Yeah. So she's already old, so people were upset that they say that they sacrificed their marriage and their memories of the marriage and their relationship just to save somebody who is more than likely not gonna be around for too much longer. You know, live forever. Fame. Yes, yes, they just cannot get rid of her ass, even though they did get rid of Alfred after a while. Yes, they did uh Batman no longer has Alfred, I don't think. No, he's still dead. Yeah, he's still dead, so yeah no. There'll be a point, there'll be a point. Yeah. Um, so we'll see what happens. Uh but yeah, you're right. She I mean so yeah, I can see why people were also upset about that. It's like, bruh, you're giving up a whole lot here to ease your guilt, buddy, and we've been waiting for this for forever. So but yeah, I do like that it's not as established as the Peter Parker Andy story in the comics, so we do have room to grow and see them fall in love as different people now, right? Even Stanley, who was like this uh to get into some inside baseball, um I believe it was Joe Casada who okayed it. He's always hated their marriage. Um and funny thing, funnily enough, when Stanley was still doing the comic strip, like he was like he gave it his blessing, but in the comic strip, they're still married. Like when he was doing the comic strip, they were still married. It's like that's cool, do what you do, but exactly. I'm gonna do what I do, right? But yeah, um, yeah, so I honestly rank this among the top Spider-Man movies, definitely. I I concur. It is so different, it is so new, it is such a good refresh. And this is the first Spider-Man who's gone four movies, yeah, yeah, yeah. Um basically a new trilogy, and we could probably call it that, yeah. So Tom's pulling it down, yeah. But he but it is more is beyond what anyone else else could have gotten from Spider-Man for. Like it is such a different, refreshing cake. And Daniel Destin Creighton is uh he's an amazing director who understands these characters on a level of the Russos, like you only really get this understanding from the Russos, like the Russos know what the fuck they're doing. Daniel Destin Creighton is the same, cut from the same cloth. Like with what he did with Wonder Man, even Shang Chi for the most part, even though I have my grip, um, he gets these characters and he gets Spider-Man.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, and speaking of R.I.P. Wonder Man series, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because that was such a it was a really good show because again, he got so much, like he understood the character. It didn't matter, his powers didn't matter as much as him as a person did, right? And that's what a lot of these movies and stuff get kind of wrong, is just that all the abilities are what matter. It's like no, the character is what matter, what they want matters, they're just people, they're people just with abilities, right? But they still hurt, they still feel love, they still feel hate and anger. So we should showcase that. And Dana Dust Cretton does showcase that. Right.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. I mean, he he he he's made whole movies. Right. Yeah. He's he's covered all you know, at least tried to cover all aspects of uh the characters of their path of
SPEAKER_02And also this is also the first Spider-Man movie where he feels like Spider-Man. Out of all of them, he feels like Spider-Man. He keeps the mask on most of the movie. He's talking with the mask. Like he's this is the spa scene, bro. Yes. This is Spider-Man. Like he is Spider-Man in this movie. Like 100%. Harley, like he Harley shows his face as Spider-Man. He talks as Spider-Man.
SPEAKER_01He does everything as Spider-Man.
SPEAKER_02And that goes a long way because we don't we always have this uh distinction um between Peter Parker and Spider-Man, but it's like this is a grown-up Spider-Man now. He's not in college or not in high school anymore. Like he this is his him living his life as Spider-Man.
SPEAKER_06And I mean this even goes to the point where, you know, um between the first two uh movie iterations we've had of Spider-Man, you know, we said one's been a you know a good Peter Parker, one's been a good Spider-Man. And he literally, you know, put it to us and to our our buddy here who has his name here as on both. He really encompassed that, yeah, this is this is both. He's he's doing the best of both right now, right?
unknownYes.
SPEAKER_02Yes, and I think this is really Tom Holland's coming out like before people people were shitting on this version of Spider-Man because he's Iron Man Jr. basically. But now this is Tom Holland taking the character and being the character earnestly, like without any strings attached, without any of the you know, the the stuff, the Iron Man stuff or anything like that. This is this is Spider-Man.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he he's like I said, uh building all his own equipment there. He's his own. That that that's the Peter Parker that we've seen. And you know, he's using his his brilliance to you know build his own shit. Be his own version of himself, right? Not necessarily his own version of Tony uh Tony Starr, but being an adventurer in of himself.
SPEAKER_02And some trivia. So it was confirmed that his costume is an amalgamation of the other Spider-Man that he saw in No Way Home. Yeah. Figured. Figured. So um, and he proudly wears it. Um and it it was so it was cool in No Way Home to for the two other Spider-Man show, but it also creates a a new relationship because he was kind of flailing in No Way Home because uh well Tony's been dead for a little while now. It was actually flailing in um flailing more in Far From Home, but he's still trying to find his feet in uh No Way Home. Yeah, and they kind of show him the way. Right. Um and show him how to be a better person in even even through his rage at the death of our me. They're there. So I so I really like that he incorporates those lessons of what he learned from them, even though for a short period, into who he is as Spider-Man.
SPEAKER_06I also like um that that one little scene we got with him wearing the uh the blue jacket. I was like, that was a nice little nod.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the oh yeah, um when it was cold, yeah. He's wearing the boop boop upper dragon. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yep.
SPEAKER_06So yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. To me, this yeah, uh I would rank this, and people are probably gonna disagree, but I don't think it's the number one Spider-Man movie of all time. Like uh to me, it it knocks any other Spider-Man movie out the block. I think the general consensus is that this is top tier, if not number one, because of its difference, its freshness, its take on the character, and it's I guess I mean there's just a lot that can be said about this movie. So I think I think a lot of people will probably agree with you. If it's not in if it's not number one, it's definitely in the top three. Yeah, definitely. Anything else to add? Um I got my rant out already. I got my rant out already.
SPEAKER_06So um I was just gonna say, why is my saying poor connection? That's kind of weird. Uh I was just gonna say, yo, shout out to uh Liza Cologne Zayas. She she she did her job. I love seeing it like because I I've you know been following her career a little bit here and there. Um but I I've always loved seeing uh what she could do on the screen, and I feel like this gave her some meat in a movie, and I I really respect that. And shout out to David Zayas, too. He's a homie, her husband.
SPEAKER_02Um what you call her from um Batista, from um Dexter? Yes, your husband. Did not know that.
SPEAKER_06Very cool. Yeah, I think they got me at like 98. Nice! Yeah, okay. Let's go. Yeah, her Bronx was full and force.
SPEAKER_02100%. Yeah, I I'm definitely gonna buy this on Blu-ray. I gotta get this and I gotta get the furious. Right? Yeah, this is definitely definitely gonna be on Blu-ray. I'm definitely gonna watch this again.
SPEAKER_06Oh, yeah, absolutely. This this is gonna get another at least two or three rewatches. I'm the least rewatcher here, so that's a lie. Yeah, I normally watch a movie once. That's it.
SPEAKER_02Oh, and by the way, there was a crying baby in my theater. Yeah. Uh showing to uh uh a meme move. So there's it's like uh somebody's somebody's baby crying in the movie theater in Spider-Man and somebody who shoots a baby.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, so I thought about that. That was Laz Alonzo. I didn't know what what that was from though.
SPEAKER_02Neither do I. Yeah, I don't know. It looked like a two-b movie. Fuck it, bomb.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, I was like, I thought about it.
SPEAKER_02I definitely did, because that baby was going off in the movie theater. It was a 7 30 show. I was like, that baby should be in bed. Yeah, yeah. It was a 3D movie, by the way. So I'm like, what is even the point? You were 3D? Yeah, there my theater had kids, but it we saw it at 10. Like, we our our um our showing is at 10. I'm like, bro, what are you doing? What are we doing here?
SPEAKER_06I was trying to go when I was trying to go when kids should be like at their summer camps and stuff. That's fair. So that's my way.
