Thin Lines: Where Opportunity Ends and Theft Begins
Reka and Los debate the fine line between seizing opportunities and outright stealing, examining various scenarios from food banks to free samples that challenge our ethical boundaries.
• Taking from food banks when you don't need the resources is stealing
• Money flying from an overturned truck might be considered a "Won't He Do It" blessing rather than theft
• Getting full off Costco samples crosses the line into stealing, even with a paid membership
• Taking fallen plant pieces for propagation generates disagreement about whether it constitutes theft
• Keeping items mistakenly delivered to you or taking restaurant dishware is clearly stealing
• There's a "thin line between blessings and stealing" that we all navigate daily
until our next podcast, here's something to make you laugh on the all in your biz with rika and lowe's show what you think.
Speaker 2:So guess what is it really? Stealing? No, I think it's a blessing no, oh listen is it? It's called stealing okay if you go to the food bank and you know you don't need the food, but you still pull up at every location for commodities every location that's stealing.
Speaker 1:Are you using the commodities that's?
Speaker 2:stealing.
Speaker 1:If you use them, it's free food.
Speaker 2:That's stealing if it's free because you don't need it, and that's stealing.
Speaker 1:But you said not too long ago if you're taking all the forks and the napkins from Chipotle, that's not stealing. So which is it that's stealing? But you said not too long ago if you're taking all the the forks and the the napkins from chipotle, that's not stealing. So which is it?
Speaker 2:it's stealing. You go to these food banks and you're stealing. You know like like you in need of it. However, it is if you come in contact with a money truck and this money truck happens to flip over.
Speaker 1:That's a blessing.
Speaker 2:Oh no, listen, it's a big difference between that's is it stealing or won't he do it? Moment I'm sick of people talking about won't he do it? Like the truck flipped over but did the person die?
Speaker 1:won't he do it?
Speaker 2:so is it a blessing if the person don't die? And if they, I mean, is it still? I'm not understanding, it's still stealing God sent a swift wind.
Speaker 1:The doors of the truck flew open. The winds blew, and there was money coming from heaven. That's a blessing, won't he do it?
Speaker 2:So this is a won't he do it. So that's not stealing.
Speaker 1:No, you didn't go to the truck and stick the truck up and tell the person hey, give me all the money. The truck to the truck and stick the truck up and tell the person hey, give me all the money.
Speaker 2:The truck doors flew open, the winds blew, no, and god made fit, so that that money can reach your hands no, there's a limit, there's a cap what so? If you're getting samples from some place or wherever it is, or it was free samples out and if you get like a lot to make a meal, is that stealing?
Speaker 1:So if you went to Costco, Okay. And they had those Wagyu burgers. They cut them in fourths and give everybody a sample and you pay for a membership. And if you came back around, you circled back around.
Speaker 2:Here we go.
Speaker 1:And you got another one, and you ended up getting four.
Speaker 2:That's stealing.
Speaker 1:Quadrants, that's one whole burger.
Speaker 2:How is that stealing if you pay for your membership? How much?
Speaker 1:taste testing do you need? You need to make sure that it's right.
Speaker 2:What your stomach is right.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:That's stealing.
Speaker 1:I'll just say this I had a class on Saturday. Saturdays it was like a four-hour class and when we took a break I would go across the street to Costco with my paid membership, eat samples for lunch and then come back. It wasn't stealing, it was a blessing.
Speaker 2:So you did that every day.
Speaker 1:Every Saturday.
Speaker 2:Just stealing Okay, just stealing Okay. So if you go into a place for our people that like flowers and stuff, plants and stuff like that, so if you see a plant like that has kind of fell off and hit on the ground and hit the ground and and the plant could be used and can be replanted, propagated uh-huh and if you take that and not pay for it because it was on the ground?
Speaker 1:there was no sticker on it is it that's stealing? There was no sticker, there was no way for the store to calculate one branch from a whole bush to charge you. That was a blessing. That was a blessing stealing, that's stealing.
Speaker 2:So you, you don't think that that's stealing. No, if you keep refilling your cup after a prior visit, so you keep the the the cup in your car, so every time you pass by a burger king or something like that, you fill up, is that stealing?
Speaker 1:that's stealing, because you're not thank you yeah, because you've left the establishment right so you can drink as much as you want while you're there. But once you leave, you can't come back later on that day, another day, and refill your cup and act as if it's not still. But what's the difference between that and the costco? Membership the costco membership that was the same day. I'm eating the the samples for that particular Saturday, when I'm there.
Speaker 2:If you get full off samples, that's stealing and I paid for a membership. If you get full off the samples you stealing Okay let's talk about something.
Speaker 1:So if the Amazon carrier puts a wrong package on your door, oh, good one, do you keep it? Did you keep that speaker? I mean, do you keep? The speaker do you keep the package? Yeah, but keep it oh, did you pay for it?
Speaker 2:won't he do it? Okay that's a won't he do it moment? I think so.
Speaker 1:It depends on what it is what it is right, if it's some hangers.
Speaker 2:I can listen. Y'all put this to the room, so what?
Speaker 1:about. Okay, you're going out to eat, right, and then you have like some spinach dip that comes in a bowl that they put in the oven and then they put it on your, your table and you have some extra and they didn't give you a to-go bowl. Do you take that nice porcelain white dish and put it in your to-go box with you to have a set maybe?
Speaker 2:sure?
Speaker 1:no, you need at least two okay, that's stealing that's stealing so the knives, the nice steak knives with a lot of you know weight on them. But that's stealing too that's stealing too.
Speaker 2:That's just like what, if you are sitting down eating and you know you had maybe you know five, six people there harvest, or and then you got the ticket and it was wrong. They gave you the wrong ticket. So, savings, you know five, six people there, high-vis, or and then you got the ticket and it was wrong. They gave you the wrong ticket. So, savings, you know your bill should have been like three or four hundred dollars and it was like like $90.
Speaker 1:That's their error.
Speaker 2:Won't he? Is that a won't he do it moment?
Speaker 1:Yeah, so is wrong, or pay the 90 go ahead so I can say I would pay whatever the ticket says stealing. I'm just waiting wheel in the middle of the wheel. Yeah, okay he's a ram in a bush you wouldn't think nothing of it I would think that this was a blessing people kill me.
Speaker 2:You know that you didn't eat like 800 worth of food and you get a check for like $780.
Speaker 1:Excuse me, who am I to correct someone and make them feel inadequate on their job? Who am I? I don't know, you know? Okay, so when you're driving through those tolls, let's talk about that. You're driving through the tolls in somebody else's car and you don't tell them. Or you order movies and you don't tell them. Is that stealing?
Speaker 1:I guess so, because you had good intentions of going through them tolls and you had good intentions on typing those, those, those letters in for that movie right stealing, okay, well, there we are okay, so I guess we, it's been established, there's a thin line, there's a really thin line. Between God's blessings and stealing.
Speaker 2:Exactly. Is it really stealing and won't he do it? There's a thin line. You know cats that say Won't he do it in a minute? Yeah, oh, he came through. No, you know that ain't yours, yeah. Or somebody puts Accidentally puts something In. You know that ain't yours, yeah. Or somebody accidentally put something in your bag and you know it don't belong to you. That actually happened to me before.
Speaker 1:What Somebody put.
Speaker 2:Something I was at, the cashier and the lady was just putting stuff in the bag. I never forget this one. Gps is real big, remember you had to upload them and download the stuff and all this other stuff, yeah, anyway, this actual GPS system had to be like $200, $300.
Speaker 1:Oh.
Speaker 2:And she put it in the bag.
Speaker 1:Did she remove the security tag from it?
Speaker 2:Yeah, it didn't go off. Oh, okay, because I didn't even notice it until I got home Until you got home and connected it. No, until I got home. I didn't even notice it until I got home, until you got home and connected it. No, until I got home.
Speaker 1:I didn't notice. I said what is doing here, Did you?
Speaker 2:check it back. No, won't he do it?
Speaker 1:There's a thin line. Won't he do it Between blessings and stealing.
Speaker 2:Yeah, so there's a very thin line and all there's a thin line Between blessings and stealing.
Speaker 1:Okay, won't he do it, okay, okay, propagate that's all I'm going to say to my plant baddies out there. Propagate.
Speaker 2:Propagate Be careful out there, because it's a thin line, yeah, especially Between blesses and stealing.
Speaker 1:You have that GPS To tell you which way to go. Now huh.
Speaker 2:Oh, that was, there's a thin line. Hey, that was many years ago.
Speaker 1:Alright, all in your biz.
Speaker 2:Yeah, right, bye.
