We laugh through the chaos of everyday etiquette and set straight the unspoken rules around money, parties, church notices, salons, and social media boundaries. Between shoutouts and a heartfelt tribute, we draw a bright line between kindness, clarity, and entitlement.

• shoutouts to listeners across cities and a fan of the week
• tribute and water safety reminder after a tragic loss
• lending money versus giving and ending the endless asks
• petty borrowing boundaries and begging fatigue
• house party rules on plus ones and to-go plates
• who keeps the liquor you brought to the function
• awkward work moments and calling out rudeness
• modern salon expectations, deposits, and prep
• church tithes, compassion, and support during job loss
• social media exits, re-adding, and boundary upkeep
• TV nostalgia, Reading Rainbow riff, and follow-up plans

SPEAKER_00

Is that gonna affect the reading rainbow song?

SPEAKER_04

It could, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, well, you want to try it and you know, maybe see if it'll work?

SPEAKER_04

No, because I have to be clear when I sing reading rainbow.

SPEAKER_00

I want to hear the reading rainbow song.

Introducing “I Know You Lying”

SPEAKER_04

Right from Louisiana. From Louisiana. I don't know what part, but shout out to you, Candace Girl. Thank you. Oh, etufe, big yeah.

SPEAKER_00

That's that's what's up. Thank you so much, Miss Candace Wright. And with that being said, we do have another topic for you. Okay, and I I don't think they're ready. I don't think they're ready for this one. And this is gonna be uh I know you you lying. I know you lie.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I know you lying.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, I know you lying because you know how sometimes you things just happen and you don't have the right words for it. And the first thing that comes to your mind is I know you lying. I know this blanket of blank distant do this or whatever. Um there's so many uh incidents that I just say I know I can't believe this.

SPEAKER_04

So So like So these are just things that pop up in your mind.

SPEAKER_00

And I know you lying.

SPEAKER_04

So like if you're at church and they say, hey, we're gonna build, we're gonna take up a second and third collection. I know you're I know you lying. Okay, okay.

SPEAKER_00

I know you lying. You see, or you know, if when you go through the red light and you was cutting it, and you see like three or four cars behind you that uh run through the, you know they ran a lot. I say, I know you line. They didn't run through the light.

SPEAKER_04

You run the light too?

Safety, Grief, And Life Jackets

SPEAKER_00

True. Okay, so anybody behind me, I know you line. I know you line and you follow me. Okay. So um there's a couple things out there, you know, that makes you just want to say, just make you want to say, I know you line.

SPEAKER_04

So oh, before we start, can I can I say something? Go ahead. I know our last uh podcast we talked about um we talked about good times versus the Cosby show. But I definitely want to give a shout out, a heartfelt shout out, and condolences and prayer to um Malcolm Jamal Warner, aka Theo Huxtable. Yeah, most of the rest in peace. I mean, this was like we just talked about it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we sure did.

SPEAKER_04

And so now I have to find your Gordon Gartrell. Like, I just have to. Wow, I have to because this is like it touched, it just it just touched home for me. So, and and just rest in peace. And for those who are into water sports and swimming, just wear a life jacket, yeah, be safe, you know, have someone with you and just be safe.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, make sure you put on that that that vest. Yes. All right, I know uh you may be a good swimmer and all, I get it. You may have been in the military, I get it. You may have been an instructor, I get it. But just put on the life vest.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, please take time and just be safe. So rest in peace and most definitely um just be safe out there.

Borrowed Money And Social Media Flexing

SPEAKER_00

Okay, definitely. Now I know you line moment. I got one.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

I know you line. So have you ever just happened to me.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

So have you ever let somebody hold something like tools or money? And you see them on social media or doing something or out shopping and doing whatever it is, and you got an attitude. I got a uh I got a dang old attitude.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

And I want to go up to them and I look from afar and I just say, I know you're lying.

SPEAKER_04

Well, they're not lying. Well, maybe they lied to you, but yeah.

SPEAKER_00

No, I know you're lying. I mean, they came to me with a a sob story out of this world.

SPEAKER_04

You fell for it.

SPEAKER_00

And I gave us my heart.

SPEAKER_04

So if you gave out of the kindness of your heart, it turned out you have an attitude on vacation.

SPEAKER_00

It turned. Okay. Because they was turned up. They were on jet skis.

SPEAKER_04

You at home work and you at work.

SPEAKER_00

And I say, I know you lying. I know good and darn well. You ain't out there.

SPEAKER_04

It made you feel some type of way. Listen.

SPEAKER_00

We're gonna keep it G-rated and all. Like I said some choice words and all how it, but I know you line.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Has that ever happened to you? Have you let somebody borrow something?

SPEAKER_04

And then, you know, not even come on. I had to I had to learn this concept a long time ago. I am not a fan of beggars. I'm just not.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Um because I I don't like that. I I don't like the fact if I let you have money or loan money to you and you doing whatever. And and yes, if if I agree to loan you the money, you can do whatever you want to do with it.

SPEAKER_01

I know.

SPEAKER_04

But it needs to be paid back. However, I stopped doing that because I think once you loan out once, it never ends. So they're always, you know, there will always be a situation where somebody asks, you know, hey, can I have this? Can I borrow this, this, or that?

SPEAKER_01

So I know you lie.

Begging Boundaries And Ridiculous Requests

SPEAKER_04

If I loan something, I give it to you and that's it. But don't come back for another round. Because I know you, I know you line. But I had a situation one time where I had this coworker, she was really, really sweet. And um, excuse me. And um it was a situation where she would uh she had a husband and a child, she would beg a lot, right?

SPEAKER_00

What's a lot?

SPEAKER_04

I mean, in abundance to where like begging for stupid stuff. So so case in point, this particular time she called me and said, Hey, Rika, can I borrow lettuce and tomato? I want to make some tacos for my husband. And you know and tomatoes and tomatoes.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

And I'm thinking, I know you lying, girl. Don't you have a man to with a car to go to the store? And if you need all of that and you're calling me when I went to the grocery store and put lettuce and tomato, and I have to drive it to you. You better make a meatloaf at this point.

SPEAKER_00

I'm sorry. So get some manwich meals.

SPEAKER_04

Manwage meat? I know you lying. I know you lying, girl. So she was upset.

SPEAKER_00

She was upset for the lettuce and tomatoes.

SPEAKER_04

She would borrow, she would ask for the most. Can I borrow a bottle of barbecue sauce? Can I borrow? And I'm just like, I just had to cut it off because it became obsessive.

SPEAKER_00

It would be outdated. Yeah, go ahead, take this one.

SPEAKER_04

But I I just felt like, and there was another time I was at someone's house. I'm not gonna say who whose house, but I'm sure if this person is listening, they know who I'm talking about. So I'm at this person's house and the doorbell rings. I go to the door and answer, and this person says, Hey, my mom told me to come over and ask if I could have a couple of packs of Kool-Aid. And I'm like, Kool-Aid? Kool-Aid, who who sends somebody over to someone else's house to to ask for Kool-Aid? So I asked the person, they said, Yeah, give them the Kool-Aid. Tell me why the next day they came over and asked for the sugar.

SPEAKER_01

What?

SPEAKER_04

I know you lied. I said, I know you lied. I just had to say, no, tell your mother, no, if y'all need sugar and cool, just drink water. Drink water until she can go to the store.

SPEAKER_00

You didn't need none if you need to borrow all that.

SPEAKER_04

If you need all of that, that means you need to drink water.

SPEAKER_00

But you know what? Do or do like we did back in the days, you just put it in your hand. You remember that? Just lick it with your. I'm not doing that. No. Okay. Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, that must have been from good times.

SPEAKER_00

I know you lying. I know you're lying.

SPEAKER_04

Wow.

SPEAKER_00

So you had a couple, you had a whole bunch of run-ins then.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, don't be begging. Like begging is is begging is a turn off. Don't do that. It's not if it's not a necessity, and necessity is a need, not a want.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, you're getting deep with it.

SPEAKER_04

Don't beg.

SPEAKER_00

I know you're lying. I got another one for you.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Have you ever had a function or a party or get together or something like that? And you know, you invited some people that you probably know closely or whatever, however, you know. And they bring somebody else.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, plus one.

Party Rules: Plus Ones And To-Go Plates

SPEAKER_00

That you don't know, never seen, okay, no dealings with, come over your house, partake in your goods, your food, and I just want to say, I know you line. Like, I don't even know this person.

SPEAKER_04

So when you have I know you line. So you're the host.

SPEAKER_00

I'm the host.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. And so do you have like an invite-only rule, or can someone bring a plus one, or do they need to run it back?

SPEAKER_00

No, no, no, no.

SPEAKER_04

What's your rule?

SPEAKER_00

Listen, the black rule is this.

SPEAKER_04

What's the black rule?

SPEAKER_00

You let people know if you bring somebody to your house that they don't know. Okay, that's just that's common, that's that's that's standard data. Like, I'm not bringing nobody to your house that I'm but say, hey, I brought my friend. No.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_00

You need to let me know ahead of time, because I may, I may need to, you know, do some investigation. I don't want people that I don't know in my house, especially when I'm having like a social gathering or something like that. Oh that's standard data. Standard ain't no plus one. Like, y'all cool, we ain't cool. I don't know you. Oh. You know what I'm saying? So you be like, hey.

SPEAKER_04

Nobody wanna come over with a nasty potato salad anyway.

SPEAKER_00

I'm gonna bring such and such, man. You know, he cool, whatever it is. I'm and I'm gonna ask questions like where he from, where she from, what they do, how y'all know each other, how long y'all been knowing each other. See, these you could have met somebody at the club last night, and then you having a function you want to bring them?

SPEAKER_04

Now pull up to the club VIP.

SPEAKER_00

No. It ain't gonna happen.

SPEAKER_04

No, so your woman is no plus ones.

SPEAKER_00

I know you're lying.

SPEAKER_04

So now you don't want to invite them anymore.

SPEAKER_00

No, and guess what? When they come and they come with that that plus one and then tell me, they gonna be gone too. Because I know they lying. So they ain't gonna even get no entrance. Everybody's leaving.

SPEAKER_04

So speaking of the gathering, how do you feel about people who show up for a gathering, but they don't contribute, they don't bring anything. Oh, and then they want to leave with the to-go plate. How do you feel about that's my I know you lie? Like you came here with nothing in hand, uh-huh. You brought extra people, and then you want to go plates. How do you feel about that?

SPEAKER_00

Listen, let me tell you something. If you invited to my function, okay, and you don't bring nothing, matter of fact, don't come.

SPEAKER_04

Do you want them to bring something?

SPEAKER_00

Or do you feel like just don't come, number one?

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, but if you do decide to get enough courage and come anyway, empty-handed. Empty-handed, you bet not even get a plate or nothing to eat. You hear me? You could say, hey, Los, I ain't got it right now. This, you know, whatever, however.

SPEAKER_04

So you would then determine if they could eat or not?

SPEAKER_00

I determine the portion. Okay, because you ain't about to get like two, threefold to go plates and you ain't brought nothing. So what about, okay, so if people Come on, that's just being courteous, right?

SPEAKER_04

I think it, I think it is, but sometimes I know people, there's some people that just say, hey, take, take the leftovers, just take them. And then other people feel like eat whatever you want while you're here, but do not take anything to go from my home unless I tell you to. You know, some people feel like it's it's it's it's like a thing to do. Like, let me just start taking stuff, no, you know, without the host inviting them to do that. But let me ask you.

SPEAKER_00

I know you like here's my question.

Who Keeps The Liquor You Brought

SPEAKER_04

Okay, so everybody brings a side and people bring liquor, right? So I've seen this happen before, too.

SPEAKER_00

I get pissed. Just listen to it.

SPEAKER_04

So, okay, say some somebody bought some, I don't know, Hennessy, somebody bought some uh, I don't know, whatever, and then somebody buys some E and J, right? And nobody's really drinking it. Right? They somebody opened the bottle, they had a little shot, whatever. I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

You don't tell me.

SPEAKER_04

And the person wants to take it back. What do you feel? What is the rule? I know you lie.

SPEAKER_00

I know you lie.

SPEAKER_04

What is the rule on taking back food and or liquor that you bring to someone else's house for an event?

SPEAKER_00

Right. So that's the thing. So you brought the alcohol or whatever it was, so now it belongs to the house. Okay. And then the house will determine like what's going to happen to it. So, especially if it's liquor, you ain't about to take that back. If you brought it. Listen, I put it right on the shelf and I drank it when I ain't got nothing else to drink. Okay. That's how it works. Now, if you think you're gonna drink, if they ain't drinking it and you're gonna take it back, please. That's your entry fee.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

That ENJ was your entry fee. You know, so if people ain't drinking it, then it's just like, okay, it's still gonna stay here. And if you try to leave, I I'd be doggone. If you talk about you leave out here with a plate, it's gonna be empty.

SPEAKER_04

A plate and a bottle.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's gonna be an empty bottle and an empty plate.

SPEAKER_04

So you feel, and I I agree, I think it's up to the host. Like, if the host says, hey, everybody, take this stuff, I'm not gonna use it. Yeah, it's free game. Or you can take this this liquor that nobody's this uh Cisco bottle of Boone's farm. You can take this with you.

SPEAKER_00

Take it with you.

SPEAKER_04

But don't just assume that since no one is really drinking it or the the top is open and somebody may have had a shot or two.

SPEAKER_00

That's it stays there. Like you don't you don't do that. That's that's that's standard black rules.

SPEAKER_04

That's a rule.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, like we ain't even gotta re- You just you just don't come empty-handed, period.

SPEAKER_04

Well, I've seen some black people do that now. Yeah, that's what I was asking.

Workplace Pet Peeves And Awkward Observations

SPEAKER_00

I know, I know, but they did wrong, and I know you lying. So when I look at them, I'll be looking in the corner like I know you lying. Now, this is another thing here. Now, I don't want nobody to take offense to this here. I want to put this disclaimer out there right now. Okay. And I'm not trying to make fun of people with disabilities. Because this is this is where I'm going with this, okay? Okay. So it was this lady that I used to work with. Okay. And to I understand it, as far as that I have known her come to work, she's been in a wheelchair. A motorized chair. I gotta turn my face because you I'm trying, I'm trying to be serious, though. Okay. She was in a wheelchair, however, you know, and um this was like I know you line moment because I didn't I always used to wonder why her shoes was always dirty. What the lady in the wheelchair, the motorized chair.

SPEAKER_04

Disconnect my mic, please.

SPEAKER_00

Her shoes were always dirty.

SPEAKER_04

They were on the floor, and somebody exactly, like she was walking. She wasn't walking, maybe her floor was dirty.

SPEAKER_00

So she was walking. Or maybe no, she no, the shoes were dirty like they would finish like doing a room.

SPEAKER_04

Can she put her feet on the floor from you know the pedals that are on the wheelchair? Can she put her feet on the floor? No, no, disconnect my mic.

SPEAKER_00

And I for the life of me. I'm trying to understand why your shoes dirty. I mean, like no, they were like dirty, like somebody stepped in something dirty.

SPEAKER_04

Do you think she had mud, you know, like it was a lie?

SPEAKER_00

Can I finish, please? No, I need to ask they had mud in the grooves of the like maybe she was sharing shoes with someone. And I always and I said, I know you lying. And I I pulled somebody's coat one day say, Why are shoes always dirty? Like, are you paralyzed once you come into the office?

SPEAKER_04

Well, she's trying to get a uh medical retirement.

SPEAKER_00

Do you think I know you lying? That's another I know you lying moment.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, former co-worker, if you have uh are now able to walk, please email email us. I mean, why is that?

SPEAKER_00

Can can you answer that?

Modern Salon Etiquette And Fees

SPEAKER_04

Because can anybody send an email and answer this question. Let us know if you have been healed.

SPEAKER_00

Why was them shoes dirty? And I'm talking about it was caked on like mud.

SPEAKER_04

Maybe somebody, maybe somebody else wears the shoes.

SPEAKER_00

No, because every pair of shoes that she wore, okay, they had they was kind of and I'm thinking, I know you line.

SPEAKER_04

I know you line for being in that person's business.

SPEAKER_00

No, I mean she riding around rude as all can be.

SPEAKER_04

And I'm like, maybe she was you know dirty foot shoe wearing it.

SPEAKER_00

And then you want to be nasty with it. I know you line.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

So that was a I know you line moment and all.

SPEAKER_04

And um, you got an attitude about that.

SPEAKER_00

Like Yeah.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Like running up, like she had the audacity to run up somebody's feet a couple times.

SPEAKER_04

Maybe because you have feet and she didn't I know, like taking it out.

SPEAKER_00

Don't take it out on my feet. My feet. Look.

SPEAKER_03

Your feet is okay.

SPEAKER_00

Hold on, don't do that. Okay, but that was a I know you line moment.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, I have one.

SPEAKER_00

I know you line.

SPEAKER_04

Um, I think this is for like new age hairstylists. I don't know if these hairstylists have gone to cosmetology school or if they're just like, you know, at home trained or whatever.

SPEAKER_00

But I know you lying. You ain't had a table. I know you lying.

Church Notices, Tithes, And Compassion

SPEAKER_04

I'm not booking on your app for me to show up to your place of business, your house, your apartment, your trailer, with my hair already washed, dried, or conditioned, dried, and all of the things before you can style my hair. No. Um, it's a no. I know you're lying.

SPEAKER_01

I know you're lying.

SPEAKER_04

Unless I'm coming for braids, where my hair should always, you know, be prepped and ready to go. I'm not showing up with half of the service done, and then you start doing my hair after it's been cleaned and blow dried. But that's why you go though.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, that's part of the service, ain't it?

SPEAKER_04

No, yeah, part of the service is getting your hair washed.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I know you're conditioned.

SPEAKER_04

You sit under the dryer or get it blow dried, get it trimmed. But why am I coming with half of the service done? But I need to pay you the whole bill. I know you lying.

SPEAKER_00

I know you lying.

SPEAKER_04

No, I'm not doing that.

SPEAKER_00

I know you lying. I'm gonna go run, I'm gonna go run the block.

SPEAKER_04

And down payment, earnest money on my hair appointment.

SPEAKER_00

Earnest money.

SPEAKER_04

I gotta pay 50% down and then show up with 50% of my hair already done. I know you lying.

SPEAKER_00

I know you lying.

SPEAKER_04

It won't happen.

SPEAKER_00

Wow, they doing it like that? Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I got another I know you line moment. And I don't want none of my my um sanctified people to feel no type of way, okay. Um, but I know you line. My homeboy was going to this church, right?

SPEAKER_01

And he got a bill in the mail from the church.

SPEAKER_00

The church sent him a letter and it said first notice. Cause he lost his job and you know, and he wasn't able to, you know, to bring his tithes in his office because he was unemployed.

SPEAKER_04

Would a man rob God?

SPEAKER_00

And he got that letter and showed me, and it says, We noticed that you I'm just paraphrasing that you haven't, you know, gave money, this and that other. And I said, bro, I know you lying. And it said first notice.

SPEAKER_04

Did he write them back?

SPEAKER_00

No, no, he ain't write them back. No, I mean it was a I know you lying moment.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, did he continue to go to the church?

SPEAKER_00

I don't think so. I know you lying. Okay. So that's bold. Very but I know you're lying. I hope ain't nobody doing it out there like that. The brother lost his job.

SPEAKER_04

He needed help.

Social Media Exit Announcements And Re-Adds

SPEAKER_00

He lost his job. So I hope he didn't get a second or third. I don't wonder what happened after the third notice.

SPEAKER_04

They show up at your house?

SPEAKER_00

Exactly.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, do they take their prayers back?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know. You say they what?

SPEAKER_04

Take their prayers back. We're gonna rescind these prayers.

SPEAKER_00

No, I guess when they build a new building, what the the building fund, you can't go. You'll access like because it's a card that you know that goes to the you know, and it does you know working.

SPEAKER_04

We prayed for you to get that job that you lost.

SPEAKER_00

Took it back.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, okay.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but jokes is jokes, okay? This is a true story though. So I just want to say I know you line. Okay. Can't do people like that. No, you can't do people like that. No, you know, but it's all good though, you know. Um, I know you line is the name of this podcast here because there's so many things that go on, and it just makes you want to say, I know you line. I know you line. And then those it may be some out there with other choice words and all, but you get the picture. I know you line is like you don't have the right word to say right then, yeah, but you know it's wrong, is dead wrong, and it just makes you want to say, I know you line.

SPEAKER_04

All right, yeah. I got one more.

SPEAKER_00

You got one more?

SPEAKER_04

I'll just stop at this.

SPEAKER_00

Go ahead.

SPEAKER_04

Um, if you're going through things in life, and we all do, and you decide to make an exit announcement on social media, right? And you start to unfriend a whole bunch of people, and then you come back months later and try to add people back. Don't add me back, okay? Especially if I didn't do anything to you, I didn't cause you harm or discomfort or anything of the sort. Just don't.

SPEAKER_01

Don't ask me.

SPEAKER_04

I know you're lying. So when you see that friend request just sitting there for years.

SPEAKER_00

I know you're lying.

SPEAKER_04

I know you're lying because don't take us on your emotional roller coaster when you're trying to figure out things in life that we had nothing to do with, have no knowing of what's going on between you and whomever.

SPEAKER_00

But they want your friendship back, they can't have it.

SPEAKER_04

No, I refuse. Refuse. Oh, we need to we need to do a follow-up to Good Times versus Cosby show because we had a listener write in to us and said that we need to uh we should watch and do a comparison. And I forgot the last time, and this is another reason why I didn't watch good times because when that girl got burnt by that iron, Penny, Penny, there is no way that that's good times or relatable. But we're gonna watch a couple of episodes and we're gonna follow back up with that.

SPEAKER_00
