When your business feels chaotic, it’s usually not because you need to do more—it’s because you don’t know where to focus.

In this fourth episode of the Foundations Series of Built to Flow, Heather Crabtree introduces the six core focus areas that every business has: Strategic Planning, Business Model & Offers, Systems & Operations, Marketing & Sales, Financial Health, and Leadership & Team.

These six areas act as your business map, showing you exactly where to put your energy right now. Instead of scattering your attention everywhere, you’ll learn how to align your focus with your current business season. Heather also shares how these six areas support not only entrepreneurs but also strategists, coaches, and consultants who guide others through growth.

By the end of this episode, you’ll see how clarity comes from knowing where to focus—and why that’s the key to building a sustainable, life-aligned business.

Have you ever felt like you're working on everything in your business but nothing is actually moving forward? That's usually a sign. You're focusing on the wrong areas at the wrong time. You are listening to Built To Flow, the podcast that's redesigning how business works. I'm Heather Crabtree, business strategist, three time founder and creator of the Built to Flow framework. This show is about building businesses that align with your energy, values and the season of your life so you can grow sustainably and with intention. And right now you're in the Foundation series six episodes that walk you step by step through the Built to Flow framework. Consider this series your blueprint for a business that doesn't just grow. It flows. Here's the truth. When your business feels chaotic, it's not because you need to do more. It's because you don't know where to focus. That's why inside Built to Flow, we don't look at business as a hundred moving pieces. We use six core focus areas that every business has. These six areas become your map. They keep you from scattering your energy everywhere, and instead show you exactly what needs your attention right now. So let me introduce you to the six core areas. We'll walk through them. Number one. Strategic planning. This is your direction, your vision, your priorities. Without it, everything else is just noise. Number two, business model and offers. This is how you serve and what you sell. Do your offers still align with your life and your goals? Number three is systems and operations. The behind the scenes engine that keeps everything running. Without systems growth will always feel heavier than it should. Number four, marketing and sales. How you show up, how you're visible and how you bring in clients. Number five, financial health. Knowing your numbers, pricing sustainably, planning for profit. This isn't just about revenue, it's about resilience. Number six, leadership and team. How you lead yourself, lead others, and build a team that grows with you instead of draining you. Now, why do these matter? Every challenge you face in your business can be traced back to one of these six areas. And here's the thing, you don't need to focus on all six at once. In fact, trying to do that is what keeps most entrepreneurs exhausted. The built to flow approach is different. When you know your business season, you'll see which areas need your attention right now and which ones can wait. That's where clarity comes from. That's how you move forward without burning out. Okay, let's look at this through the entrepreneur lens. If you're a business owner listening, this is the map that will stop you from spinning your wheels instead of trying to fix everything at once. You'll know exactly where to put your energy in the next 90 days. Okay, now the strategist lens. If you guide others, whether you call yourself a strategist, a consultant coach, or something else, these six areas give you a full business lens. You'll be able to spot what's actually blocking your client's growth instead of handing them cookie cutter advice. And this is what makes your work deeper, more strategic and more impactful.
