Hi, it’s Mary — and welcome to Being Mary.
Today, I want to invite you to join me by the water.
There’s something about being near the lake that just quiets my soul. A feeling of peace, of serenity. This is where I come when I need to clear my head, take a deep breath, and just… let go of everything swirling around in my mind.
As I stand here, I can hear the waves rolling in and out, over and over, like a gentle lullaby from nature herself.
So, wherever you are right now — whether you’re walking with me, or just listening at home — take a moment to imagine yourself here. Standing on the shore. Looking out at the water. Listening to the sound of the waves.
Let’s just pause here for a moment… and listen.
The sound of water does something to us, doesn’t it? There’s even research that shows how being near water — what some call “blue space” — can calm our nervous system. It slows our heart rate, quiets anxiety, and creates a sense of awe.
That’s what I feel right now. Awe.
When I look at the lake, stretching out so far I can’t even see the other side, it reminds me of just how big this world is. How small my worries are in comparison.
The water accepts everything — the wind, the sun, the clouds — and still remains itself.
Sometimes I think… maybe that’s what we need to learn too. To let things flow.
Take another breath with me.
In… and out.
And as you breathe, picture the waves carrying away your stress. Washing over you, taking with them all the heaviness you’ve been holding.
If you could toss just one worry into the water and watch it drift away, what would it be?
Let yourself imagine it now — dropping it in, watching it float out of sight, carried by the current.
That’s the gift of water — it teaches us to let go.
Standing here, listening to the rhythm of the waves, I feel like everything will be okay. Maybe not all at once. Maybe not today. But eventually. Because everything flows, and so will I.
And so will you.
Thank you for joining me here today by the lake.
If you can, I hope you’ll find your own moment this week to sit by water — a lake, a river, even just a fountain in the park. Close your eyes. Listen.
Let the water remind you: you don’t have to have it all figured out right now. Just let it flow.
Until next time, keep walking, feel the calm of water and keep being you.
