E42: Internal Beauty Creates External Results: Meet Marissa Parchman

Nick George Season 1 Episode 42

Discovering true beauty requires looking beyond the surface. In our conversation with Marissa Parchman, owner of Timeless Skin and Wellness, we explore the powerful connection between internal health and external beauty that's revolutionizing the traditional medical spa industry.

Marissa shares her remarkable 14-year entrepreneurial journey from offering simple spray tans and teeth whitening to creating a comprehensive "360 internal wellness medical spa" with two thriving Colorado locations. The recent rebranding from Timeless Laser to Timeless Skin and Wellness reflects her deepened understanding that lasting beauty results come primarily from addressing internal wellness, not just applying topical treatments.

What sets Marissa's approach apart is her passionate challenge to conventional wisdom. She tackles head-on the misconception that "detoxing is fake," drawing from both personal experience overcoming acne and professional expertise as a licensed esthetician. Despite facing intense competition in Denver's saturated market (which now has more medical spas than Starbucks!), Marissa maintains a refreshing business philosophy: "I don't panic, I pivot." Her client-centered approach prioritizes honest education and appropriate referrals over sales tactics, embodying true care for her customers' wellbeing. Whether you're curious about hormone health, struggling with skin conditions, or simply seeking a more holistic approach to beauty, this episode offers valuable insights into achieving timeless beauty from the inside out.

Speaker 1:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Nick George.

Speaker 2:

Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of a path to timeless beauty, hormone health and holistic wellness? One might be closer than you think. Today I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, marissa Parchman, with Timeless Skin and Wellness. Marissa, how's it going?

Speaker 3:

Hi, thank you so much, Nicholas. I'm so happy to be here.

Speaker 2:

We're excited to learn all about you and your business. Tell us all about your company or your practice.

Speaker 3:

Yes, so I own Timeless Skin and Wellness. We have two locations. We have been in Denver in the Lohei neighborhood for a little over 10 years now and we recently opened our second location in Littleton. It's actually a Littleton address, but it is in the Ken Carl neighborhood. So we are super excited to expand and offer internal and external beauty services to everybody.

Speaker 3:

A little bit deeper on that, um, a little bit deeper on that we have been a medical spa since we opened, offering injectables, anti-aging treatments, laser services. We do a lot of facials. We even offer laser hair removal. And with the changing industry and, more than anything, my changing and growing passion in wellness and for external beauty, I have learned so much about how internal beauty, internal practices, are really the number one way to get the external results that you want when it comes to anti-aging and real beauty. So we rebranded the beginning of this year. We went from timeless laser excuse me, it's hard to talk we went from timeless laser to timeless skin and wellness and now we are really a 360 internal wellness medical spa. We offer hormone health. I specialize in anti-aging and detoxing the system, and we have grown to be a team of educators that really just want to help those who are kind of lost when it comes to skin conditions, inflammation in the skin and even deeper hormone health that often is affecting those things.

Speaker 2:

Wow, how did you get into this business?

Speaker 3:

Well, I got into this business doing spray tans and teeth whitening. I originally started a small business doing spray tanning and teeth whitening, and those are two services in the state of Colorado that you don't need a license for. So that's how I got into the beauty industry and since I started 14 years ago, I have just grown into this 360 business of wellness. It's just grown. I mean, it's grown mostly with myself, but now I, over the last couple of years, have been adding practitioners that really complement the services that I'm providing.

Speaker 2:

What are some myths or misconceptions in your industry?

Speaker 3:

One of the biggest myths and misconceptions that I hear people say is that detoxing is fake, that we don't need to detox, that detoxing is a scam. And it's so interesting to me I am a licensed esthetician and I see so many people with skin conditions and people come into me and they honestly need an internal wellness doctor, and that is one thing that's made me so passionate about detoxing the system. I personally struggled with acne for years and now that I approach skin conditions from an internal place and not always topically, just skincare products, it's very interesting the pushback that I get from people who are like well, I'm coming to you for a facial or I'm coming to you for skin concerns. Like, why are you telling me about my health? So the biggest misconception is that internal health does not affect your skin.

Speaker 3:

Who are your target customers today and how do you attract them? Now? My target customer is anybody who wants to improve their wellness, anybody who wants to improve their quality of life and educate themselves on things that they can do in clinic, but also things that they can do in clinic, but also things that they can do at home. I'm currently attracting most of my clients from Instagram and we have a very strong presence on Google. I hope everyone will check us out on our Google profile. We really pride ourselves in having a five-star rating and Instagram. I love to post educational videos on my Instagram platform, so anybody can find me on TSW, on Instagram, at TSW Marissa, and our business page is timeless skin underscore wellness, I believe. So that's where you can get most of the complimentary information that we have to offer.

Speaker 2:

Thank you for articulating that. Have you ever thought about doing your own podcast, since this is so unique in your industry? The evolution that you've taken it in. I have Outside of work. What do you do for fun?

Speaker 3:

I work, I love to travel, I have a stepdaughter and a husband that I love dearly. My husband is Bulgarian, from Bulgaria, so we try to get to Europe as often as possible and, honestly, we're really easygoing. We don't do a ton. We garden, we go out when there's something exciting to do, but we really are entrepreneurs that focus on our businesses and are trying to grow a life that we can spend half of our time in Europe.

Speaker 2:

Let's switch gears. Can you describe a hardship or life challenge that you overcame and how it made you stronger? What comes to mind?

Speaker 3:

You know, I think the biggest hardship and challenge that I've had, especially in my career, is the competition. This industry is growing so rapidly and we used to be one of three medical spas in, I think, a three and a half mile radius and we are one of 27 medical spas in a three and a half mile radius. There are more medical spas than Starbucks, which is a very interesting statistic. There are the most medical spas in the United States, in Denver and in Salt Lake City, utah. So it was a re. It was a very strong shift in the industry, really rapidly, and competition kind of swept through the neighborhood and I think that can be very discouraging to people and I, you know as an entrepreneur, don't panic, I pivot. So that would probably be the biggest thing that I've had to overcome is the competition that swept through my neighborhood.

Speaker 2:

Marissa, please tell our listeners one thing they should remember about timeless skin and wellness.

Speaker 3:

I would love for everybody to remember that we are here to help you. We are here to meet everybody where they're at. For everybody to remember that we are here to help you. We are here to meet everybody where they're at. This industry is very expensive and it's never our goal to give information just to grow our bank account. It's very important for us to grow our reputation of compassion and empathy, and when I say we can help everybody, I mean that, and our consultations are very much geared towards how can? What do you need? Not necessarily what do we have to offer you. If there's something that we don't have to offer you and I know somebody around the corner that can serve you better then that's really who we are as a company and a brand. We are going to give you honest education and point you in the right direction. Point you in the right direction.

Speaker 2:

I remember you said the social media places that you were you could be found, but please tell our listeners again that your traditional website and the phone number any other ways that they can.

Speaker 3:

they can reach out to you. Yeah, absolutely. We recently rebranded, like I said, so let me just make sure I give you the proper information. Our website is timeless S and W, that's for timeless skin, skin and wellness. Timeless S and Wcom. Our phone number is 303-800-1821. You can always call or text that number and my personal Instagram is TSW Marissa and, and our business Instagram is TimelessSkin underscore wellness.
