E57: Aspire to Ascend: How Expert Mobile Massage Therapy Transforms Lives

Nick George Season 1 Episode 57

Ever wondered how massage therapy could transform your daily life? Matthew Schroeder brings a fascinating perspective to therapeutic bodywork through his mobile service, Schroeder Massage, serving Fort Collins residents where they are.

After relocating from Cambodia and pivoting from physiotherapy aspirations, Matthew discovered his true calling in massage therapy. Five years at Massage Envy gave him the foundation to launch his own practice focusing on rehabilitation and deep tissue work. His philosophy—"aspire to ascend"—perfectly captures his approach to helping clients overcome physical limitations and optimize their wellbeing.

Matthew challenges the common misconception that massage is exclusively for the young and active, passionately advocating that therapeutic bodywork benefits everyone across all age groups and activity levels. From geriatric care to prenatal massage, his inclusive approach makes wellness accessible to the entire community. Working from Valor Gym near Fort Collins High School, he's strategically positioned himself to serve clients already invested in their physical health while welcoming those new to regular bodywork.

What makes Matthew's story particularly compelling is his personal journey of transformation—evolving from a self-described introvert into a community-focused practitioner who balances professional growth with vibrant engagement in local volleyball, soccer, and maintaining global friendships. This blend of professional expertise and authentic connection creates a unique therapeutic experience that goes beyond physical techniques.

Whether you're dealing with chronic pain, recovering from injury, or simply wanting to feel your best each day, Matthew's customized approach adapts to your specific needs with plans ranging from single sessions to comprehensive rehabilitation programs. Connect with Schroeder Massage on Facebook or visit him at Valor Gym to discover how expert massage therapy might be the missing piece in your wellness puzzle.

Speaker 2:

Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of a path to feel your best with expert massage therapy in Fort Collins? That comes to you. Today. I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, Matthew Schroeder, with Schroeder Massage. Matthew, how's it going?

Speaker 3:

It's going. Thank you so much.

Speaker 2:

We're excited to learn all about you and your practice. Tell us about it.

Speaker 3:

So yeah, it's pretty much I started back in October of 2025 or 24. And after working at Massage Genvy for the past five years and after working at Massage Gen for the past five years, it's very much focused on a lot of more rehab therapy, focused type of massage, deep tissue, all the things and just doing the best I can to help alleviate any type of pain or trying to get back people to the best of their shape.

Speaker 2:

How did?

Speaker 3:

you get into the business. So we're gonna get into this. But pretty much, uh, when I moved to the States back in uh 2015 and such 2014 and 2015 to Colorado, uh I very much was wanting to go pursue uh physiotherapy. I'd agree in there. But uh, seeing how there was a master's degree and a lot of other things with transferring of um in-state tuition, out-of-state tuition and such massage therapy popped up and from there I pretty much found the love of just being the middleman and helping assist people with the most typical day-to-day things to rehab, to helping them with chiros and physios and such.

Speaker 2:

What are some myths or misconceptions in your industry?

Speaker 3:

I'd say that massage is only for people who are active or who are very much in the younger demographic and such. I'd say massage is for everyone. That could be in varied shapes and forms our geriatric massage, all the way to like prenatal to even with, you know, babies, toddlers and such. I'd say overall, you know, yes, there's finances to it, but I do believe that massage is for everyone and if it is a priority in your life, it'll help a lot, and also not only that, I'll also help with the fact that it will potentially have you avoid any type of injuries.

Speaker 2:

I'm sure there's a market of people that don't know that they need you out there. Who are you targeting like that right now and how are you targeting them?

Speaker 3:

So I work out at a gym Valor Gym and so pretty much a lot of gym people who are trying to help, you know, be better versions of themselves, as well as my clients from the past six years, where they're trying to just feel the best versions of themselves to, you know, go out the day just 100% of themselves. My motto is pretty much just aspire to ascend. So it's just people who want to be better, who want to strive to be the best versions of themselves, to tackle on the day with, you know, the best they can be.

Speaker 2:

We know the marketing is the heart of every business. Have you ever thought about doing your own podcast?

Speaker 3:

No, I've actually never been. I've been asked. One of my buddies is also wanting to do a podcast, but that could be a potential thought and such. I'm still new to the marketing aspects and such.

Speaker 2:

Understood Outside of work. What do you do for fun?

Speaker 3:

So I'm very much involved with the Fort Collins Volleyball Group and such. I'll show up at City Park almost every day, if I can. Some days will be busier Days, like you know, where it looks like it's rainy. That's not going to work too much. I also play a lot of soccer and outside of that I have a lot of friends all over the globe. So, from skype, which is, I feel like it's an outdated uh app at this point, you're proud to use that.

Speaker 3:

Go ahead skype, whatsapp messenger, whatever you want to call it. I have friends in Cambodia. My dad lives in the Philippines. I have people community, if that's the best way to explain it. I miss connecting and would love to always connect to my community around me.

Speaker 2:

Let's switch gears. Can you describe a life challenge or a hardship that you overcame and how it made you stronger? What comes to mind?

Speaker 3:

hardship that you overcame and how it made you stronger. What comes to mind, honestly, when I first moved to the states, I if we want to talk about the uh like enneagram or none of the enneagram, the uh myers-briggs thing I was like an infp. So, moving to the states, I was this very introverted guy who knew nothing, who very much. Was it all right, I had to choose Do I stay like I was back in Cambodia or do I try to put myself out there to start learning things, to start understanding the community, the culture, the ideologies, all the things and such. And then, even after a year, I moved to Colorado in 2015, which I had to seek out community and understand where my path went from having to change from the PT to massage and such. But overall, with a huge thanks to my friends and a lot of my family members that moved here or visited, I was able to very much pick myself up and with their firm foundation, I was able to pretty much make a community that I can call home now here.

Speaker 2:

That's beautiful, Matthew. Please tell our listeners one thing they should absolutely remember about Schroeder Massage.

Speaker 3:

I'd say you should remember that, with my motto aspire to ascend. I'm there with very much. What your needs are, we'll talk. We'll try to figure out what are the. What's your vision, whether it be more of a maintenance thing to just very much. You know this is going to be a six week thing, 12 week. Whatever it'll be like, I'm there for you and most of all, we're there to help you and whatever that is.

Speaker 2:

How can our listeners learn more about Schroeder Massage and all the ways they could do so online?

Speaker 3:

I have a Facebook page, schroeder Massage LLC. I also do work out of Valor Gym, owned by Tim Anderson and such. I just rent out a room from there, located right in front of Fort Collins High School and such. Otherwise, I pretty much will be up and around with coaching events, coach soccer and such too, and sponsoring a couple places here in town, so you'll see me out and about for sure.

Speaker 2:

Well, matthew, we really appreciate you being on our show and we wish you and your practice the very best moving forward.
