Care Works Best When It Meets You Where You Live
Need help at home but unsure where to start? We sit down with Eric Burnett of Humble Horizons Home Health to demystify modern home care and show how skilled support can fit your life instead of forcing your life to fit care. From nursing and therapy to respite and homemaking, this veteran-owned team builds flexible plans that keep people safe, mobile, and independent in their own homes.
Eric explains how home health differs from hospice, why visits are scheduled intermittently instead of 24-7, and who qualifies for support through the VA, Medicare, Medicaid, or private pay. We talk through real-world scenarios for veterans and adults across age groups, covering common needs like wound care, mobility training, errands, and companionship. The throughline is simple: relationship-driven care leads to better outcomes. By learning each client’s routine and respecting their dignity, Humble Horizons helps neighbors navigate daily life with less stress and more confidence.
We also dig into local growth and access. Eric shares how the team connects with assisted living communities, expands its digital presence, and serves Northern Colorado while coordinating with branches in Wyoming and Boise, Idaho. You’ll get a clear path to action, including the website and office number, so you can get answers quickly and build a plan that fits your situation. If you’ve ever wondered how to secure skilled help at home—or challenged the myth that home health is only for seniors—this conversation delivers practical clarity and hope.
If this story helped you, follow the show, share it with a neighbor who might need it, and leave a quick review to help more people find trusted local care.
This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Nick George.
SPEAKER_01:Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. Are you in need of home health care? Well, one great company might be closer than you think. Today I have the great pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, Eric Burnett, with Humble Horizons Home Health. Eric, how's it going?
SPEAKER_02:It's going good today. How are you doing?
SPEAKER_01:Excellent. Tell us all about Humble Horizons Home Health and what exactly your niche is.
SPEAKER_02:Humble Horizon Home Health, we're a veteran-owned company. We started in 2019. We provide home health services to a variety of clients. We do skilled nursing, physical and physical therapy and occupational therapy, CNA care, respite care, which respite is more of a companionship type care, and homemaking services. We accept referrals from the VA, Medicare, Medicaid, also do uh private pay uh clients. But if you're in need of some kind of care in your home, I mean if you reach out to us, we can kind of probably sit together and figure out if we could get a referral. But we normally take care of uh you know people within their home that are have some kind of limited ability possibly.
SPEAKER_01:Um so this is not the same as hospice?
SPEAKER_02:Um, no, it's not the same as hospice. Uh we provide care. You know, some of our clients, you know, they are long-term where they'll have uh, you know, we do have a lot of veterans, so there's you know, some veteran disabilities that they would have. You know, it allows us to come in and provide these skills. And it's like I said, a variety of skills that we would provide, but you know, from anything from nursing all the way down to helping them run errands, going to pick up their mail.
SPEAKER_01:Eric, how did you get into this business?
SPEAKER_02:Um, myself, uh, I got into the business uh by way of my best friend. Um, he's the owner of the company. Me and him were in the military way back when and uh became really good friends. Him and his wife and his sister started the company because uh his sister and his wife were in the home health uh industry and they kind of seen uh a need for more companies, and they got into it. And fast forward about a year or two later, he gives me a call and I moved from California here to Fort Collins, Colorado, and have been doing it ever since.
SPEAKER_01:What are some myths or misconceptions that might make people hesitant to reach out to someone that does what you do?
SPEAKER_02:Um honestly, I think a lot of people think that home health is only for older adults, and that is not always the case. Um, yes, a lot of our clients may be um of our older community, but there's a variety of ages that we do uh take care of. Um our company ourselves, we do not do pediatrics, so we don't do small kids or young children. But you know, the variety of age groups go anywhere from somebody in their 20s to you know our elderly population. And then also um I think a lot of times people think that home care, home health is like 24-hour care. Like, you know, we send somebody there and they it's kind of like live-in care. Um, we provide intermittent scheduling, uh visits, so it's not just all the way around the clock. So, based on your schedule, we can get somebody there to your home and provide whatever care is needed.
SPEAKER_01:Who exactly is your target market and how are you digitally reaching out to them now? Um, other than mouth, but like digital advertising.
SPEAKER_02:Our target market is, you know, whoever would honestly would need home help. Like I said, one of the myths is that it's it's more of the elderly population or older population. Um, yes, we do get a lot of referrals that are um the older population, somebody that needs help and assistance within their home because of whatever their uh their ailment would be. Um, we do get a lot of VA clients, so the VA sends us referrals, and you know, a lot of these guys are uh these these people are going to be uh of the older older variety. So how we reach out to our clients basically, um we do have our Facebook page. Um that is kind of getting it's it's fairly new as far as us getting in there and reaching out, but uh honestly, digitally, there's not too much. You're one of the first podcasts or ways that we've been able to try to reach out, you know, digitally. Um, my thing right now is what I do, I pound pavement. You know, I go to different uh assisted living uh facilities and walk in with a small gift and let them know what Humble Horizon can uh provide for them. And hopefully the word of mouth gets out there. You know, that's part of our our uh right now, part of our our what we want for the future is kind of getting Humble Horizon's name out there in the community, in our northern Colorado community. And then from there we can expand, you know, further south, possibly.
SPEAKER_01:So it sounds like you've thought about doing your own podcast.
SPEAKER_02:Um it would be nice to get into something like that to where we would have an audience that we can reach out to kind of get our our name out there. Um like right now, like I said, you know, we're we're in the Colorado area, we're a smaller company, so we're we're trying to expand. But a podcast would be something that'd be nicer. Um, like I said, going out into the community and getting getting involved in community events, you know, to get our name out there would be also good.
SPEAKER_01:What do you do for fun?
SPEAKER_02:Huh. Um, I'm a family man. I have uh two children. I wouldn't say younger because they're not that young. I mean, but I mean 14 and 11, so that's young, but you know, in my my opinion, they're getting old. But uh, you know, following them around, they're both in the sports, so following them around, Ubering them, busting them, however it goes to get them to where they need to play their sport is kind of our fun. And then when I do get time to myself, I I love to play golf.
SPEAKER_01:Nice. So um, what did uh did I ask you if you have a website?
SPEAKER_02:Uh yes, we we actually do have a website website. It's gonna be humblehorizonhomehealth.org. So you can go on to our website and see you know the service that we provide. Um, also, we do have a a uh branch that's in our home branch is in Wyoming, and then we also have a branch in Boise, Idaho.
SPEAKER_01:What is the big takeaway that you want listeners of this podcast to take away from our interaction today, Eric, about humble horizons home health?
SPEAKER_02:Um the big thing is to get our name out there, honestly. Um, and I I want people to know that, you know, when they do see uh our name out there and they are inquiring about us, that uh what truly sets us apart, we're we're a hands-on relationship-driven company. Um, we like to get to know our clients personally, understand their routines, and support them with dignity and patience, you know, the respect that they need. You know, but the big thing, we want to get our name out there so that we can prove you know what Humble Horizon here in northern Colorado is uh capable of.
SPEAKER_01:That's awesome. Eric, uh, hang with me after we're done recording. I really appreciate you being on the show, and we we definitely uh hope the best for Humble Horizons Home Health moving forward.
SPEAKER_02:Thank you. I appreciate uh being on the show. Uh thank you very much.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, one more thing. What's your phone number?
SPEAKER_02:Uh phone number to the company, right? It's gonna be 970-837-2700. That's our main number here to my office.
SPEAKER_01:Awesome. All right, have a great day.
