EP 000 - Trailer raw video
===
[00:00:00] Hey friend, I'm so excited for you to be tuning into the Trailer of the Millionaire on Her Terms podcast. I am so beyond excited to just dive in and get you pumped to just know how am I gonna help you along the way as you tune into the podcast and what you can expect from guests, what you can expect from me.
Who I am and I would love to also get to know you too along the way. So before we deep dive into all the nitty gritty of what to expect from the podcast, why did it come around? Why is it here for you? What are you gonna get from this? I really wanted to deep dive a little bit into my background just so you can understand kind of where.
This journey and why this podcast came to life so fun. Fact, originally this podcast was going to be a private podcast. It was something that I've been wanting to do for about two years. And other fun fact, I actually currently am already a podcast host of my other company, which I'll deep dive into all the different companies that I own,
and in my other podcast, I've had it for about two years, and I love it. I love being a podcast host, but that podcast is dedicated specifically to the accounting industry. And [00:01:00] while I love that podcast and I love being able to support our community, I felt very siloed would be the right way to say it, very siloed and very much like I couldn't have certain conversations that I really deep down wanted to have because it didn't fit in the accounting industry because it wasn't what my audience would want, nor what they'd listen to.
And so it was something that. Was just deep in my core, knowing that I had so much more to share and so much knowledge and experience that I gained over nine years as an entrepreneur and things I've helped clients with, things I've helped students with, things I've helped, just like women in general with, and it's just, I.
Been such an insane journey that this podcast was such a pivotal piece of me being able to get into your ears and share with you things that most people will actually gate keep. So if you have no idea who I am, my name's Alyssa Lang. I am a three time founder with two active companies. I'm a self-made millionaire, and I also feel like I'm the type of person who kind of goes against the grain and likes to do things a little bit different and really truly lean into my gut feelings, [00:02:00] which we'll talk a lot about through the podcast and through guest experts and people I'm gonna bring on and plus conversations.
I'm gonna share with you guys about ways that I kind of went against what everybody else told me to do and how it actually played out in my favor. I'm also gonna share the moments that it didn't play out in my favor. So you're gonna expect kind of both. So I've had three different companies in total, about nine years in entrepreneurship, and my very first business was actually top notch bookkeeping solutions.
It was all just me at the time, just being a bartender and my tax repairer I was sitting across from, I remember getting my taxes done and his name was Jimmy. Thank you, Jimmy. Shout out to Jimmy if you're listening to this, like you were literally such a pivotal springboard to me becoming an entrepreneur.
Through my conversations with him, I was like, Hey, isn't it nice to only have to do taxes for about three months outta the year and then you just get to go take off? He totally painted this picture to me that like, that's exactly what it was as a tax repair that you just worked for three months outta the year.
You were good to go. You were set. And you had nothing to worry about and you got to make all this money. I was like, please sign me up. That sounds really good to [00:03:00] me. And of course, that wasn't the truth or wasn't the reality, but that's just another story for another day. So I started off with just doing taxes more on the personal and individual side.
I. About nine years ago, and I truly thought it was only gonna be a side hustle. I did not want anybody to work for me. I just wanted it to be myself. I wanted to pocket all the cash and do whatever I wanted with it and just have extra cash as a bartender to go play and do whatever I wanted to do. And fun fact, I.
I actually started to resent people who were getting their taxes done by me. And the reason why was because I was helping mostly individuals who, you know, had a one W2 job here and there, and they just really wanted me to get a refund. They'd asked me to hook them up and, you know, can you do this and do sketchy stuff?
And I was like, I just didn't feel an alignment with that kind of stuff. And so that's what drew me to doing business taxes. So I actually moved into the business tax sector and I started to do a lot more. Business taxes to be able to support those who understood that if you don't receive a refund, that's always not a bad thing.
That typically means that you profited a lot of money. And so [00:04:00] I actually loved doing it. But then what I found with doing the taxes for business owners was I found that a lot of them would kind of come to me with just like drop in a spreadsheet, drop in receipts in a box off to me. And it just got to a point where I was like.
There's gotta be a better way. Someone needs to make sure the bookkeeping's done or the books that I would receive were just not up to par. So that's when I deep dived into learning and understanding bookkeeping, so that way I can better serve our business clients to maximize their tax strategy to be able to maximize their tax savings overall.
And so that just kind of like kind of morphed itself and in that journey of learning how to do the bookkeeping so that way I can better serve our tax clients. It just opened up a whole nother realm. I un ended up finding this program, it was called Bookkeeper Launch, uh, back in 2018. I'd already been doing bookkeeping on my own at that time, and I had started to grow the business and was gaining some clients.
I already had clients before I started that program, but that program really focused on how to actually build your bookkeeping and tax business on top of how to also make sure that you are trained to make sure everything was set [00:05:00] up correctly. And so at that time, I remember just. Going through the program, I was like, this is so cool.
I didn't even know what online course was. I literally thought you had to go to school for literally everything. And so it was just such a new realm and a new space. Well, through that program, I actually really learned how to market my business and really take things to the next level, and my firm just kind of.
Blew up guys like in the most positive way. And a lot of it attributed to the success of this program that I had taken and the things that I had learned, the clients that I had. So at that time, I could no longer bartend. I had to go full force within my company. But I will tell you, the headaches and the big things kind of started pushing me to a next level version of myself because I found out I could no longer do it all.
I actually needed to hire someone. I needed systems, but I lacked that in a lot of things in the accounting industry. Weren't very transparent about how to set up systems, how to hire people specific to what we do in the accounting space. And so I kind of had to learn it for myself and I remember feeling very frustrated that nobody else in the industry was teaching this.
And so I kind of [00:06:00] mastered it for myself. Brought on my first contractor, failed the first time, which we'll totally talk about while my failed hires over the nine years of entrepreneurship. Yeah, but I got to this really beautiful place where I found out that like I had a really good skill. I actually didn't know I was gonna be great at systems.
I loved systems, loved it so much. Like I loved being able to build the team and really not focus on like the day-to-day work. And the team was kind of running the show and that's when I posted one time in a Facebook group. I swear guys, I've had some crazy leaps through my journey that have been. Have just changed my life.
It's insane to think about. I posted in one Facebook group for other accountants and bookkeepers and I said if I built something like a resource or some sort of course of some sort to teach you guys how to use Asana. 'cause at the time I used Asana within my firm, which is a project management system.
Would anybody find this useful? 175 other accountants and bookkeepers said, absolutely I would do anything for that. So me being the person I am, could never just do one thing at a time. So in February of [00:07:00] 2020, I decided to start, it was actually in the end of 2019, I decided to start doing system setups one-on-one for individual firms across the us.
Then expanded to out, worldwide. But I just couldn't serve everyone. I realized that I could not serve setting up systems for all these people because my team was kind of running the show at the firm. I was over here doing system setups, getting people ready to rock and roll in their own firm, and that's when in 2020, I.
It's actually Valentine's Day 2020. I created what was called Workflow Queen. So that's my second company. So I actually originally wanted to be Workflow ninja. Fun fact. And unfortunately it was taken, but one time someone messaged me on Facebook and said, Hey, I heard that you're the workflow queen and that you can help me set up my systems for my accounting firm.
And I was like, oh my God, that's the fricking name. And so I chose the name Workflow Queen. February of 2020, right before the pandemic. And I created my very first course, very first course was all about how to use Asana within your firm to be able to better manage your clients. And it was an extension of my workflow Queen Company two people bought for eight fricking [00:08:00] months.
Two. I had no idea that I thought that if you just. Throw a course out into the universe that literally anybody would buy. And that is just so not true, especially if you're a course grader here. You probably have found me because of my firm, or you found me through Workflow Queen, no matter what you guys know that like courses are not that easy to just throw out there and
you can't just hope for the best, right? I did not know anything about sequences, email marketing, all these different. Things, right? So before I came from like a very referral based business within the attacks and the bookkeeping space, and it was just such a new realm for me. But I knew deep into my core guys, I can't tell you how many people told me, just give up Alyssa.
It seriously, nobody's buying. No one knows who, who you are. I was trying to hustle. I was just trying to get this out there because I knew deep in my core that this is something that can change the trajectory of the accounting industry guys. That cockiness as I'm like saying it out loud, it's like so insane.
But I, it's not even cockiness, it's just like this inner knowing that I knew I can change the [00:09:00] accounting space for the better. And I knew that if I change the accounting firms, I can change business owners' lives because it's all one big ripple effect. Right? So at that time, I started following someone on Instagram.
Her name is Alex Baden. She was a really big, pivotal moment as well in my journey, and I was obsessed with everything she did because she taught people how to launch their programs, how to get it in front of people, how to market it, all these different things. And I remember going to every single one of her Instagram lives.
I remember just following her along and just being like, I am gonna somehow work with her. And it was eight months later. She actually, in the summer actually, of 2020. She had our group coaching program to call together. We launched that. She was launching at the time, and it was about $10,000 for me to invest inside this program at that time.
And I had never invested in a business coach. The most money I'd ever paid was for my bookkeeper launch program, and it was about $1,200. I had never invested that much money. Now I like invest hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in coaches and education in ways that I can expand myself as a human.
And I just remember being like, oh my God, this is [00:10:00] huge. Like this is a lot of cash. Like thankfully I had my first business to be able to fund all these different things, but I had this inner knowing and I remember sitting down with my well now ex-boyfriend, but he was my boyfriend at the time, and I remember being like, this is so scary.
He was like, I don't know, it's just like a lot of money. Like, do you even know this person? You met them online and blah, blah, blah. I was like, you know what? I'm gonna do it. I know that this course could change. Other accountants' lives because it has seriously helped me so much being super systematized.
So I took the leap of faith and I told her I remember applying and, and we'll, we'll talk about this on a podcast episode. And I remember talking to Alex and she was like, look, we don't take people in your position. And she wasn't saying it in a mean way. She was just like, we just don't take people in your position.
'cause we need someone who has a vetted product to make sure that you can actually launch it. Because if you don't have that viable audience at the time, guys, I had like a hundred followers on Instagram. I had like 300 people on my newsletter, and it was just like.
Yeah. She was just like, there, it's just you're not the ideal. 'cause they, she was attracting people who do multiple six to seven figure launches in this very small group, tight knit group [00:11:00] coaching program. And I was just like, look, I remember putting in my application like, I am the most dedicated human you will ever meet in your whole entire life.
I will implement everything. I will be the best student you'll ever meet. I didn't have a team at the time at Workflow Queen. It was just me. But I had my like accounting team, which was great, but they didn't know what I was doing over here. Right? So I had to like go all in. With myself on this. And it was very scary for me at the time.
And I remember her reaching out to me on Instagram and being like, you know what, Alyssa, like I could tell your conviction in your like application, we're gonna do it. And so I was like, thank you for the, you know, thank you so much for trusting me. I'm gonna make it happen. I'm gonna be the best student you ever had.
I had the best launch of everybody, that whole entire cohort, which is incredible. So what we did for our very first launch, the very first launch, I did officially. 116 K. So in one week we did 116 K, and I knew all I needed was the right marketing strategy. And my goal wasn't just to sell to people. I actually wanted to change the accounting industry in a whole, and it was a huge, huge goal of mine.
And so that was [00:12:00] me pivoting into the course space in my very first successful launch. And after that, it just. Kept falling together really, really very quickly. So, so quick. I got asked to come speak and teach inside of the bookkeeper launch programs 'cause I had so much success from them that helped to like really catch the bookkeeping and accounting audience because I was different.
I was loud and I was proud and I was fun and I wasn't the boring accountant. And then like the male suit and tie type of, you know, person teaching them. And I remember just being like, oh my God, it's all happening so quick. And within our first. One and a half years of being within Workflow Queen, we hit our first million because we just, all I needed was the right strategy and the right marketing, and it just has continued to grow and grow and grow.
We have larger programs now. Our largest program is about 5,000, and it's just been crazier and crazier. And our biggest launch has been 446 K, which is actually one of our episodes of our first couple of episodes that will be dropped on the podcast, will be all about my launch and everything that we implemented so you guys can learn from that as well.
Through that [00:13:00] journey, I realized that I no longer wanted my firm, so I actually, in 2021, decided to go all in in Workflow Queen. That was a whole nother battle. I had a battle with myself because I just didn't know how to manage. Being in two different companies at one time. Granted, I really wasn't within my firm.
My team was really mostly running it, but I felt like , it was just kind of sitting in the back of my mind all the time, and that's just what I wanted to let go of. So I went full force Workflow Queen hired a team. We brought people in to come help me. We started building, bigger programs, bigger offers, and then we had a team of like five or six full-time employees at one point, and it just.
Kept getting bigger and bigger. Well, through my years of at Workflow Queen, being a course creator, someone , who was in the multimillion dollar sector, I was having a lot of conversations with other female founders who were like, I wish that you guys still did the bookkeeping. I wish you guys still did advisory.
And you guys did you know this for other businesses and not just the accounting space because we really need it. And I kept telling them, no, happy to get on a call and support you, but it's just not something that I wanna like start another company for well. [00:14:00] Too many people asked me, and it got to the point where so many women were like, Alyssa, I am so tired of working with my current CPA.
They're not listening to me. They don't understand the course space. They don't understand what we're going through. And so that's when I fully decided to go full force in. I. Supporting people through magnetic profits. Originally we were magnetic bookkeeping consulting. I brought in a business partner at that time when I started the company because I wanted to make sure that things were kind of split between the two of us, and I didn't wanna have to worry too much about building all parts of the business.
So I brought in a business partner that lasted only about eight months, which will be definitely a story that I'll share with you guys about just me not. Really ever wanting a business partner in the future. So after about eight months, I realized there was a major disconnection between me and my partner.
And so I offered that either she bought me out, I buy her out, or we dissolved the company. It was smarter for me to keep the company and to buy her out because she was located in Canada and our firm specifically worked within the US at Magnetic profits. So we originally were Magnetic bookkeeping consulting, [00:15:00] but we were more than that.
Sometimes when we think of the word bookkeeping, you think of like your mom or your sister or it's so freaking easy. Anyone could do it. And yeah, it's not rocket science. I say it all the time, but however, where our sweet spot is, is advising our clients beyond doing just the backend numbers and making sure things are ready just to a tax file.
We actually have helped our clients save hundreds of thousands of dollars just by. Cutting back and operational costs, looking at the ways that they are actually systematized on their backend to make sure that they're fully supported, to make sure that their team is really efficient so we can cut back all these different costs and ways that we can like make some changes to, eliminate risk within the business.
And it's just been such an incredible journey. So we decided, I decided at the time, 'cause I didn't have my partner anymore to rebrand us to Magnetic Profits since we were beyond. What our name was, it just felt so much more in alignment. So that's kind of how this business came to life. So we started this company, in 2022, and it's just we have clients from all over the United States.
We're only US-based for magnetic profits. And it has been such a [00:16:00] freaking journey, guys. It has been so incredible and so fun. To just not only pivot through this process, one thing that I will talk a lot about on this podcast is that I have an innate ability, which if you're someone who resonates with this, I'd love to know.
Come on Instagram at Magnetic profits and share this with me. I am the type of person that like if I see an opportunity or a whole or something that could be filled or a problem that can be fixed. I will jump on that so quick. And it is insane because like a lot of people are like Alyssa, you don't realize that you do have a pattern.
Your pattern is you see problems, you fill 'em by creating a business, you see problems, you get it in there. I'm like removed from both of my companies and I'm really truly the visionary and the CEO high level of both the companies and is such a beautiful place to be. But it wasn't easy, nor did I get there super quick.
It was something that was such a journey for me. And one of the big drivers that I created this podcast for was because I felt like. Everybody's idea of what a [00:17:00] millionaire is. Especially when I remember coming up with the podcast cover art. I remember sending it to a group of my mastermind people and everybody was like, you know, I think that you should be like in like more of a power pose and you should be wearing this like blazer and you should have pictures like this.
And they'd be sharing these like beautiful podcast cover art with all these other women in like pants suits and like pencil skirts and the typical millionaire vibe. And I remember just being like. This is the exact reason why this podcast is so important to me and why I named it Millionaire on her terms.
Because what Millionaire looks like to me is wildly different from everyone else. I. It's not G wagons to me. It's not fancy purses and all these different things. For me, it's travel. For me, it's my off-roading vehicle. I'm obsessed with off-roading and I go all the time. So therefore I throw a lot of money into my fore runner that's fully decked out.
I have a travel trailer that I could take off with my dog and go across the states for three, four months at a time. It's if I wanna get an apartment or a condo down by the beach that I can, right. So for me, that's what it looks like. And being a millionaire on my terms. [00:18:00] Is quite different than what you might see.
And I'm not saying those things are bad, but I just think that there's this expectation of what a woman should look like when she's a millionaire. And I just don't believe in that. I think that you could create your life in the way that makes the most sense for you, and that's where this podcast is coming into play.
I plan to be so open, so vulnerable, and share with you guys the ugly, the good, and everything in between. I think there's so much gatekeeping in the online space. That it just makes me so sad because everybody out there is gonna tell you, you know, don't teach the how. Always say the what, the why, the wow, not the how.
And to me, I just think it's bullshit and I'm gonna call it out like I genuinely am. I have been in so many incredible rooms with multimillion to eight figure founders and beyond. And just giving straight value and them being like, holy shit, no one ever tells me this kind of stuff. Super straightforward and just kind of lays it out.
Everyone's always gatekeeping information and therefore they wanna work with me. And so the reason I share this [00:19:00] with you guys is because this podcast is all about me, not only through my own. Voice, but also through guests and maybe from you as well, and bringing you guys into the conversation is, I wanna hear what being a millionaire on your terms means.
What does that mean for you? Whether you are in the seven figure space or you are getting there, or you're on the way there, or that's your goal, or if you're an eight figures plus, I wanna have the real raw conversations or the things that you had to let go, the identities that you had to shift, the strategies that you had to implement to actually get there.
I want you guys to have more freedom, more clarity, more passion, more alignment. But the only way that you could do that is if you really truly open yourself up to the idea that you don't have to just listen to all the coaches. I know that's really crazy because I also can be considered an advisor and a coach, and even what I would tell my own clients as well is like.
Take whatever I give you guys with a grain of salt. I'm gonna give you years of expertise, information to send your way. But if you know innately in your gut, [00:20:00] this is not the right move for me, trust that gut. The worst that can happen is it doesn't go the way that you planned it to you. Pick yourself right back up 'cause you're a badass woman that you are and you just continue moving forward.
I am so unbelievably excited for this podcast. I'm excited to bring in the guests that I plan to bring on. I've got this lineup of beautiful episodes that are gonna drop on the first day of our launch of the podcast, and I can't wait to get real, raw, honest. I. And just share with you guys the real shit that people are gatekeeping.
I literally recorded a podcast episode that I cannot wait to go live guys. It's gonna be a part of our first drop when we air live, and it's all about my 446 K launch. I literally give you guys things that you'd probably have to pay a coach. I. 10 to $20,000 to listen in hear, and I love giving stuff like that away because at the end of the day, I do believe that sometimes those things give you just enough to be able to get you going and to get you started and get you motivated and get you feeling in alignment.
I am [00:21:00] so unbelievably excited that you're here and that you're still listening to this long trailer. I wanted to give you guys a little bit of a background in my ask of you while you get hyped up for this podcast and that you're ready to rock and roll. I wanna hear from you. I love, I'm telling you guys, I have like the best memory ever.
I was just recently at a 30 30 client retreat. I took 30 of our clients over to a retreat in Zion, and during that retreat I was talking to someone and. It was like five years or something and they were like, you know, when did we meet? And I was like, I told them the exact month and the exact year that we met and exactly where they were at the time that we had a conversation.
I have like a crazy memory, but if you ask me what I ate yesterday, I seriously would not be able to tell you. And so the reason I tell you that is because I actually genuinely love when people reach out to me. The more I know about your journey, the more I know about what I can help to pinpoint what you need.
My skill. My absolute skill in entrepreneurship that I eventually found was my skill is that I am so good at seeing things that most people can't. This is [00:22:00] what makes me a really good business advisor. This is what makes me really good at strategies. The fact that I could see things that most people can't, and I know a handful of people who are also the same, and we can nerd out all day every day.
But the more you give me, the more I can help you. The more you say, the more I can bring on the right conversations, the more vulnerable I get. The more strategy, like, do you want strategy? What exact numbers do you want? Do you wanna see how we save money for our clients in taxes? Like, what is it that you want from me?
So that way I can share it with you. You might not know what that's gonna be, but just tell me about you. Come on Instagram at Magnetic Profits. Guys, make sure to hit subscribe to this podcast. You can expect a weekly episode every single Wednesday. I am so thrilled and I'm excited to have this conversation.
I'm excited. Maybe one day you'll come onto the podcast as well and share your journey about how your self may millionaire. I'm so pumped. Thank you so much for tuning in. Don't forget to subscribe and don't forget to reach out to me. Follow me on Instagram where we share a lot of different tips and just send me a good old voice number or message and just say, you listened to this [00:23:00] and you wanted to share your journey, or maybe one of these pieces of things resonated with you guys.
I cannot wait and I'll chat with you soon.
