RUFF RUFF
All right, what's up, y'all? We got Jordan Denton in the room with us today. He's my guitarist, really good buddy, and uh we shoot the shit and we hardly even talk about music. So stick around for a good time.
SPEAKER_04Hell yeah, dude. My voice sounds really cool on these headphones.
SPEAKER_06It sounds like I got a radio voice. Give me your best radio impression right now.
SPEAKER_04I can do uh I don't even know if this guy is still uh a radio DJ around here, but he was on Q107. It was Chris Michaels. I don't know if you if but he would kind of like he would host like just I can't I don't even know if he's still around, but I can kind of do him. He would be like uh uh Q107, Chris Michaels.
SPEAKER_02Um we got uh traffic backed up uh across O'Neill Bridge. Um more on that later. Right now it's uh Brian Adams, Tina Turner, Q107. That's not bad. I like it. Yeah, I like it.
SPEAKER_06I kind of like that. I was expecting just the normal DJ. This guy's got like a thing. Like Jimmy O.
SPEAKER_04Jimmy O used to like uh Jimmy O, I which I I guess he's not on the radio anymore either. I hope these guys are still alive and we hope they're doing it. Oh, yeah, Jimmy O, absolutely. I mean, like that's the thing, like Fletch, like like I've always wanted to be a radio guy.
SPEAKER_06Like, like I listened to the radio growing up. Look at look at that ass. Tell him come on. But uh Fletch, the guy that does 96. We're doing the podcast, come on. This yeah, hopefully this will make the cut.
SPEAKER_04I just got out of the Mary eye. Come on, bro. Okay, we'll see you in a minute.
SPEAKER_02Are y'all doing it right now?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we're on Mary.
SPEAKER_07You're live.
SPEAKER_02We just started.
SPEAKER_01I do. I hope it's got a minute.
SPEAKER_07Okay.
SPEAKER_06Oh Lord, I see you. All right, I see you down. I didn't know, I mean, shit. Not that, not that, you know, like whatever. This ain't I'm just gonna preface this with uh this ain't racist. But Fletch, he dude, I hear his radio voice and I go to an interview with him. He says, Yeah, this is Fletch with and I and I go to a radio interview. I did no idea that he's black. Dude, it is crazy.
SPEAKER_04You know you never think that because he's just you one of some radio, radio, radio people and voice actors are like you would not expect that voice to come out of of like who you're envisioning, like you've never seen their face. So you're kind of envisioning like what they may look like. Yeah. And like you're like, man, there's no but that's so crazy how that your voice is so rich. They never look like what they sound like.
SPEAKER_07No, never. No. The best are broadcasters on like NFL or MLB games, especially MLB, because a lot of the guys aren't like famous football players, they're just nerds and up there and they've got a great talking voice, and they're loud and they're clear. Martin Armor. Yeah. So I'm right.
SPEAKER_04I mean, he's got a great radio voice.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he's still WLAY, he still does. But you know what makes a great radio voice? I'm noticing in this great noticing that the world's going into right now, that deep voices, for some reason, you don't want a high pitch, this is cute. Why don't seven? It's something about the deep voice. But like the movie. That's what's attractive for the world. Yeah. This summer. Yeah, that shit is cool. It's good. You never hear high pitch, like you know, radio voices or narrators. Yeah. It's always a deep, even with women, it's like a deeper thing that they talk in.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. I've got a buffer voice. I can do verse buffer a little bit. Oh, yeah?
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Wing in at 225 pounds from Destler High School. He is a music singer in Florida. Dude, are we gonna have it?
SPEAKER_05Possibly good. I did go to Desler for three years. I know.
SPEAKER_08I don't know why that just popped in my head.
SPEAKER_06We just need a couple, just a little bit of reverb on that, and that's pretty good. That's great.
SPEAKER_05Because he did wrestle. I thought he was going Donnie chopper psychiatr.
SPEAKER_06He's one of the he's literally could be like, Well, I'm the only person in this room that's done a swanton bomb at Destler High School. And you know what? He could probably walk in any room and say that, and he's a good one.
SPEAKER_07He is the only person, yeah. You're exactly right.
SPEAKER_04But go back to like radio, though. Like the radio DJ's like, I I I had a karaoke machine when I was a kid. So like it had like two tape decks, and you could record on one of them. So like so, like, I would it had a CD player built in. So I like I would like be my own radio station. Like, I'd have like a bunch of CDs in George, so I'd have like you know, in between, okay, you're listening to Georgia Radio or whatever.
SPEAKER_03Next time, Maxbox 20, 3 a.m. Okay.
SPEAKER_04You know, do that.
SPEAKER_03Would you pass it to yourself for like the weather? Oh, no, well, no, I wouldn't.
SPEAKER_04I'm not sure. No, I wish that I was in that in-depth. That would have been so funny.
SPEAKER_08It's cloudy with a sanitude.
SPEAKER_06That is awesome. So you would play your favorite song? Oh, I would, yeah. It'd be like a mixtape of my favorite songs. And you would record it and then go back and listen to it?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, but it'd be like in between, it'd be like it'd be like a top 10 countdown.
SPEAKER_03I'd be like, okay, coming in, number nine, uh John Mayer or whatever.
SPEAKER_04Whatever the song was. Yeah, it'd be yeah.
SPEAKER_07Your top 10.
SPEAKER_03Eminem, the real slim shady.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, whatever. Dude, there's an alternate reality where you're running Kix 96. You're the guy in there doing this.
SPEAKER_04I swear, if if I wasn't doing music, I'd probably would have gravitated to like uh yeah, radio or something. Because I like, I love that. Like we're in the car and stuff, like going to the gigs. Like if a song has a long intro and I know like when it's gonna hit, like I could do a oh, I have like a thing queued up and I could do it, it like just hits perfect right before the right before the singer comes in. Yes. Like, I would love to like like a make-a-wish thing, like just flex lets me take over Kickstarter sticks for like an hour to let me like just play okay. If John Cenaso shows up, you know you're in trouble, so don't do that. Oh, it's hilarious.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. The uh the announcer uh for Sunday Night Baseball now for MLB, um, he has CP and you would never know it.
SPEAKER_06What a CP.
SPEAKER_07Uh cerebral palsy. So he's got but dude, he's he has the voice of God. He's been the he's been the Tigers announcer for like the last, I don't know, ten years. And they just did a special on him for opening day, and he's doing Sunday night baseball now, and dude, he's got a fantastic voice. But if you saw him in person, you'd be like, there's no way that's his voice. But it's incredible.
SPEAKER_06Is he like no? Isn't that what happens to him a little bit? No.
SPEAKER_07Well, it just depends. It's I think it's different, like based on like a birth, like at birth, but his is just the way he walks. Like his gait is just a little different. But bro, his voice is seriously unbelievable. It is so listen to next Sunday Night Baseball we watch.
SPEAKER_06You think AI will take over voice acting?
SPEAKER_07Or is that a creative thing that's like it's a it's like music. It's a creative thing I don't think will ever be replaced.
SPEAKER_04But can you not model a voice and just you can, but I think there's a certain energy and a cadence. Just like music. The way you deliver something.
SPEAKER_07Yes, bro. A home run, like AI announcing a home run, like in timing as it lands, as he's rounding first, and you say it just right now. There's no way I there's an art form to it. There's no way. Like when Vern Lunquist uh he he's announcing when Tiger made that crazy chip in, and he's like, Oh, for the life of you, have you ever seen anything like that? Like when he does that, dude, it's so good. Dude, AI I can't do that.
SPEAKER_06If there is alternate realities, I hope that I get to live the one that I'm where I'm Tiger Wood.
SPEAKER_04You don't want to be this reality, buddy. You don't want to be you don't want to be this one right now. I don't even know if you want to be this one within the past uh the time he's been alive. It's like the second or third time he's you know happened.
SPEAKER_06It's ebbs and flows. You can only have so much, if you're gonna have that much good, you gotta have some bad.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. People are gonna hate this online, but I kind of fires me up. I kind of like it more after this weekend. He needs to take ask John Daly, like, how do you do it, bro?
SPEAKER_06Like, well, he ain't drinking, he's on pills. That's different.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's a different world. Like, get a bus and travel like John, okay? If you want to, if you want to just get hammered and play golf, dude, you're good enough to do it. Hire a driver.
SPEAKER_07I know, but dude, that's what uh Kiz was saying on air the other day. He's like, man, Tiger Woods only gets a couple minutes apiece every day where people aren't in his face, and it's when he's driving. I guess so. Makes sense.
SPEAKER_06I'm retiring from it, but I will say when I was younger, I used to drink and drive a little bit. Not proud of it. Did it. And I thoroughly enjoyed it. Well, like I would get the boys together and we would hit the back roads and we would have a little buzz on. And let me tell you, it's pretty damn fun.
SPEAKER_04Well, Tiger's doing the same thing. He's I got a little whiskey.
SPEAKER_07He's just doing it with Hydra Coat on and ambient. Dude, he's just showing us that he's human, and that kind of that makes me like him even more, you know?
SPEAKER_06I mean, and imagine you're the cop that pulls up. You know, you pull up to the scene, I'm I'm just looking at it. You know who he is. Hey, this may be frowned upon. Like, but if I'm the cop and I pull up to the scene and it's Tiger Woods, I'm not taking his ass to jail. It's one of those backdoor things. I'm taking him home, I'm I'm clearing the scene.
SPEAKER_04Do you do your job or do you not take him to jail?
SPEAKER_06You don't do your job. It's Tiger Woods. You take him home. And you know what? That's probably happened 500 times. You're right. How many times has he done this and we don't know about it? 500 times. And eventually he just keeps getting away with it. Eventually he just topples into a ditch.
SPEAKER_04You're on the first name basis with the whole police department of the county you live in. Oh my gosh, dude. Tiger, this is like the third time this month, bro.
SPEAKER_07We gotta get you home. You saw where Secret Service came out and said that he's been on the no-driving ban list for Trump's granddaughter since he started dating Vanessa. Oh, because he's married or dating. Or he's dating Vanessa Trump, who's Kai Trump's mother. That's Trump's granddaughter. I didn't know this. Uh, Secret Service came out after the wreck and said, Oh, yeah, he hasn't been allowed to drive any of the Trumps over the last like four months.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_06What a smart play, though.
SPEAKER_07I mean, the Secret Service is pretty good at what they do. Go home and play your video game, bro. Like it was.
SPEAKER_06Damn, they don't make it anymore, though. They don't, I guess. It should always be Tiger Woods, man.
SPEAKER_04Should.
SPEAKER_06This is the best thing to ever happen to golf.
SPEAKER_04There'd be some new features in the new Tiger Woods golf game nowadays, though. Yeah, drinking and driving.
SPEAKER_05You walk up to like the You go hit one golf ball and your back hurts, you pop a hydro and you start driving.
SPEAKER_04You walk up to like the 14th hole and everything's a little sway and blurry. You gotta fill that bar up just right to get the butt to go in.
SPEAKER_09The way to fill the bar up is to hit the side on the side of the road.
SPEAKER_06God, but hey, I tell you what, if you told me that's how it ends, I would still do it to be what he was when he was on his ride. But that's the greatest golfer ever.
SPEAKER_07For sure.
SPEAKER_06Not even close to that. I'll take what, what, 20 years of rain? Yeah. For you know, with the 20 years of hell of whatever he's doing here. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04I mean, you can totally tell I'm not a sports guy by no means, but golf is definitely the best one because you get to drive the cart and drink beer and eat hot dogs. Hell yeah. Like I I've I've been before, but I've never swung a golf club because I just end up driving the cart and drinking a couple beers.
SPEAKER_07Wait, this is actually really funny. So Bo and I were playing golf last week on Thursday. We text that morning, we're like, oh yeah, we'll be there at you know 12 30 or teen off at 1 or whatever, and we're both like, Yeah, let's just not drink today, man. Let's go out there and enjoy it.
unknownOh yeah.
SPEAKER_07How long that lasts? Well, by God. I pull up to the course. I got to the course about 20 minutes before Bo, and I sent him just one text. Do you remember what it said? You're like, I'm apologizing. I said, I said, I'm gonna go ahead and apologize for when you see what I'm doing when you get here. He just sent back a laughy face, and sure enough, he gets there, and I've got six beers and a transfusion. He's like way ahead of you, dude.
SPEAKER_06Well, it would be different. I wasn't gonna drink either, but dude, the sun was beating up. Like, but in it's like the good sun right now. We're about to get the bad sun where there ain't shit blocking it. And it's just beating you up. Right now we got the good sun, little bit of wind.
unknownYep.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I'm I'm in.
SPEAKER_07It was 78 degrees with a breeze and it was clear.
SPEAKER_06Uh we had that's gotta be the closest thing to heaven, you know. A hundred percent what? It's still too hot. Fall weather and march weather. Yep.
SPEAKER_07Dude, and also you gotta remember we're on the we're on the river. Like, we're right off the river, there's a breeze, we're in the middle of the woods and God's nature, and we're hitting the golf ball around as buddies. Like, dude, we're drinking. And we're terrible at golf. Which I didn't care, I don't even remember how I couldn't tell you one shot we hit that day. Couldn't tell you one, can you? I can't remember one of them. I was just remembering the beers and having a good time.
SPEAKER_06Well, dude, it's like golf's that one sport too, where you're not gonna go like play a football game and have a cooler full of whiskey. You know? Like, hold on, hold on, coach. I got time out, sick break. You know, the golf, my guy. It's all that. Where's the car girl in my Caesar salad? Mm-hmm. You know that guy that was playing behind us, we let him play through. Yeah. And he's just, dude, he's so chipper, and he's playing with his wife, and he's not drinking a drop, and he's fit and he's 60, and I've looked at Hunter and I'm like, how the hell does he do it? I mean, he's having the time of his life talking about, you know, oh, this game, man, this game. You're just fired up for golf. Keeps coming back. He's got a heart on for golf.
SPEAKER_07He pulls up its hole three, and there's like eight empty beers in the back of our car. And this guy's got to be like, Jesus Christ. He's just happy to be there. These guys have been out here for 45 minutes. They have eight beers empty in there. That was a good day, though, man. But it's funny because Tiger Woods, I was literally telling my buddy this, I guess Friday. Would it happen Friday, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_05I think so.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. I just remember saying it was, and it's like, how does he not have it? He's a billionaire, right? Like you were saying earlier, Michael Jordan, Tom Brady.
SPEAKER_04How do you not have a chauffeur?
SPEAKER_07They're icons. Like, how does how do they drive themselves anywhere? But it's because Tiger gets his piece during that drive.
SPEAKER_04But at the same time, it's like get your piece while your buddy drives you, bro. Like, let me drink or scroll my phone. Or just get a car with a partitioner.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Like to sponsor, like his driver could sponsor.
SPEAKER_06Oh my god. If I'm titleist or whoever sponsored him, the tiger driver.
SPEAKER_09Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Oh my god. Tiger.
SPEAKER_04If you see this, hire me to be your driver.
SPEAKER_06Somebody needs to make some driver. Because hey, that dude could drive, he may not be able to drive a damn car, but he could drive a ball. Yep. So he can drive something. Hey, you could probably put his ass behind the wheel and he'll topple into a ditch, but if you hand him a golf club, he'll pipe at 350 off the hydro, it's 350 down the fairway, hole 18 to win the masters. 100%, bro. This dude is a dog. Put a club in his hand.
SPEAKER_04You're hitting a golf ball that far. And how do you how do you keep up with it after you've hit it and that ball just gets smaller and smaller?
SPEAKER_06Hard to see sometimes, but usually the grass is just so green and the ball is so white that you'll see it. But if you hit it into the shit, it's gone. If you hit it into the thicket like the fescue, it's gone. You're dead. That's why I don't golf. But dude, it is the most expensive sport probably there is. Gotta be, right? What's the point? Wait for me.
SPEAKER_04Get it up there to the green and then let me putt a couple times. Putting just as damn hard. I'd probably enjoy that more because at least I'm I'm there close enough. I didn't take 15 tries to get there to the flag.
SPEAKER_06Dude, you gotta read the shit. It's impossible. He showed me a video, Noah showed me a video before we started. Keenan Allen saying he plays golf and he just gives himself a two-put on every hole. And if it's close enough, he'll give himself a one putt. He doesn't even bring a putter.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Like, dude, what a weight of golf.
SPEAKER_07Dude, I heard Paul Skeens did that at Augusta this past year. Didn't he bring a putter? Well, he he didn't put on hardly any of the greens. He just said, write me down a two-putt because it's so he knows how hard those greens are. From what I've heard, that's what he did, which is funny. But uh, dude, we gotta talk about to not to transition out of Tiger Woods because I love some Tiger Woods talk. But let's talk about this damn Artemis going to the moon. Have you seen that?
SPEAKER_04Dude, I I I do not watch uh like the news or anything. Like I don't I don't keep up with it.
SPEAKER_06I really don't, but like me bricked up.
SPEAKER_04But my wife did mention that the other day. She was like, hey, there's a thing uh blasting me off uh to the moon. I'm like, are we really going, or is that just what's what's going on?
SPEAKER_06So what does that do for our bills?
SPEAKER_07Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, it it costs the country 29 billion. So that's gonna be that's we all are paying for it, technically.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, there's no way it costs that much. It's just like with war, somebody's getting rich off this. You know what I mean? Like somebody's gaining a lot of shit. You know what it is. It costs $28 billion. It's just a rocket they're sending over there.
SPEAKER_07Here's what it is. You know what it is. It's all the government contracts for all the the people who built it, all the materials for it. It's all those companies that got the government contracts. They're getting paid out probably triple what it really costs for them to do a job. Oh, yeah. That's where all the money's going. You know they're in all in the hands of the government. Sorry, I was just pointing, I was waiting on you. Lobby.
SPEAKER_06People that help lobby get these politicians elected. And so, what is this? Hey, here's your kickback. You gave me a million, but here's a billion of kickback in government contracts.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we're gonna fund that all war is. We're gonna fund your campaign, buddy. You just vote this. Exactly what it is. Yeah, you don't ate a million.
SPEAKER_07Yep, you don't hit a million, and then your business gets a government contract for seven million for something that really only costs like two million, you're gonna make that five. That's and then they're gonna kick some back behind the scenes to the politician. That's why people go into office with a $500,000 net worth and they come out with a five billion dollar network.
SPEAKER_06And ten of their chefs have died in shallow water, drowned in two foot of water.
SPEAKER_07They drowned in this much water.
SPEAKER_06You'd have to be on your face.
SPEAKER_04I just want uh less government and more money in my pocket. I don't care what else you know is going on. Just get it.
SPEAKER_06Unfortunately, that's that that can't happen.
SPEAKER_04Can't.
SPEAKER_06Unfortunately, it will never happen. Like you realize that people, and I know you do realize. Sorry, this just fires me up. Yeah. But like we went to war over a 2% tea tax. They taxed tea. That's all they did was tax tea for 2%, and they pulled out guns and killed people over it.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, but the Revolutionary War was a little different than the other ones.
SPEAKER_06It's just like it never ends. The more they go up with the taxes, they're just gonna keep going, dude. Yeah. I mean, you can't even own land. You're essentially still renting land after you own a house.
SPEAKER_07Since World War I, it's all for money. That's what I think. 100% like the Civil War wasn't for money. The Civil War was for like real. Yeah, it's since World War I, that's when everything became about money. Federal Reserve. Yes. Because that was before World War I. As soon as the Federal Reserve was created, bam, we go to war.
SPEAKER_06Bang.
SPEAKER_07That's when it became a money grab. You're exactly right. You're in history class, so I didn't really. Me too.
SPEAKER_06I'm just learning all this shit on TikTok.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_06You can learn more on TikTok. Like, dude, so you can rot your brain with TikTok and Instagram reels and stuff, but you can also learn a lot from if you just it's uh it's like training the dog, which I had done pretty bad with this one. But it's like train your algorithm to where it's like it's just you know, it's good stuff instead of just oh my god, Becky likes who? You know, I don't know.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, or instead of just some girl with her ass out in her face shaking it. Oh my god. That's the worst, dude, when your algorithm's stuck on that.
SPEAKER_06No, but my algorithm won't get off of it. I don't know why. Unfortunately, as a man, you you scroll and you might accidentally engage with one, or you might just accidentally look at it. It pops up on your feed, you're looking at everything. You accidentally look at it, it tracks your eyes and it feeds you more of it. I don't want to see that. I know that I don't want to see that shit, but if it sees my eyes glance at it, God forbid I sin. Yep. You know, and then it's gonna send more to me. It's it's it I mean God forbid I sin. Yeah, God forbid I'm not perfect. Jesus, you know.
SPEAKER_07God forbid I glance at the you know, the five foot six Latino with the tan body and the bikini, and then Twitter's like, here's eleven more, buddy. That's uh that's definitely not my algorithm.
SPEAKER_04I wish it was. My algorithm is like uh it can be. My algorithm is like uh uh just people sell trying to sell me an ice maker and shit like that, like, oh man, you gotta buy this ice maker. It's like you scroll that one, and then it's like somebody shaking their ass, and then it's the next one, and it's some oh my wife's algorithm is I thought mine was really bad. Hers is really bad. It's uh she has brain rot. You know what the brain rotates? Oh, that's what I'm talking about. So it's so it's like uh like it'll be like a like a banana and a strawberry, and then all of a sudden, like, you know, it is it's like uh cheated, you cheated on me, and all of a sudden, like she's pregnant, and then it comes out as like a grape. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06And like, you know, like like banana and a strawberry, and she got pregnant with she was cheating with watermelon, yes, and and then she was having a big watermelon baby, and the banana guy's like, that don't look like a banana. Then it's just brain rotten. You know what? It is engaging. Uh oh yeah.
SPEAKER_04Like it's a five-minute video, and I'm like listening to this AI script that's just being spewed out, and I'm like, what are you watching?
SPEAKER_06They're stealing time from us right now.
SPEAKER_07100%.
SPEAKER_06I literally, today I wasn't even scrolling on my phone. I went down the road and back, and it was like 10 minutes, but I'm just like, everything's getting quicker. Like it didn't feel like 10 minutes, it felt like 15 seconds. But it had been 10 minutes of my life gone. I feel like some, I don't know if it's maybe it's the attention span, but in turn, they're stealing time from us.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, oh, for sure.
SPEAKER_04Absolutely. That's what sucks about like uh nowadays, like having to run a viral video. If you don't catch their attention within you got two seconds, maybe even uh one second. I don't even know, maybe not even that.
SPEAKER_07No, you're exactly right. The algorithm now is if you don't hook them in two seconds, it really is two seconds, the first two seconds of a video, they're not gonna watch any of it. It could be crazy, bro. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06I had a guy today, um I saw all that I knew, and he's like, Man, yeah, we're we're hoping you get your big break. And I'm like, dude, I don't eat like this this shit is so just corrupt and everything's just so brain rot and bullshit. I'm like, yeah, hey, I hope I do, man, and I'm gonna keep working for it. But you know, like at the cost of what? Don't think that I'm about to just bend my knee to all this bullshit.
SPEAKER_07Dude, at the cost of you walk in your living room and Satan's sitting in there, and he's like, hey, buddy, he's like, you asked for this.
SPEAKER_05I'm gonna say you better get out of here. Yeah, I rebuke you, 10 Hail Marys, or whatever you gotta do.
SPEAKER_07I'll stop sending the latinas your way if you just listen up.
SPEAKER_06Oh, yeah. Hey, you want that record deal, buddy? Yeah. Bend over. Started honestly. No, sir, please, God, no. No, I'll do it my way. I'm too I'm too stubborn. I've always been like this. I don't want somebody telling me what to do. I'll do it my way. And I will be wrong 90% of the time, but you have to be wrong to figure out how to be right.
SPEAKER_07For sure.
SPEAKER_06You can't just be right and be cool all the time. You have to be wrong and mess shit up to learn how to not mess shit up.
SPEAKER_07Preach.
SPEAKER_06Preach. You know what? I won't hook you on two seconds on the algorithm.
SPEAKER_07Hey, let's cheers to that boy. Listen to the whole damn song.
SPEAKER_06Listen to the whole song. The first two seconds may not hook you.
SPEAKER_04I would cheers, but I'm out. So oh shit. Come on, man. Become proud. I haven't I haven't said anything funny yet. So oh, it's not even open.
SPEAKER_06That pisses me off about music, too, though. Like, it's like, dude, if you don't have a hook at the beginning of the song, you can't. Hook people dude, a song's supposed to develop. A song's supposed to, you know, get better. You know, I just gotta say something hooky right off the start, and then you go, like, people just post. I mean, I'm guilty of it. You post the chorus over and over. But it's like, you know, people want to hear, yeah, I want to hear the whole thing. So all these companies are laying off thousands, like tens of thousands of employees because they got AI that can you know do all the jobs now. What good does AI do if we just all go off the grid, right? There's there's there there will be no AI. Like, if nobody's got jobs. So here's my thing is if nobody's got jobs, nobody's got money, and you don't have money for AI, you don't have money to buy shit, so you gotta be self-sufficient, then what what's the point of AI?
SPEAKER_04AI can tell you how to do anything, but uh the physical part is not there unless you have unless you've built a robot with the AI that's communicating with what you've told it you want it to do. I mean, there's AI can tell you how to do it, fix your car, anything, whatever, whatever. I mean, you just start to do it. It'll diagnose it everything. But yeah, but it can't physically do it. Like, the human part of fixing it.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it's a good idea. So, like if you're a plumber or if you're a pipe footer, dude, yeah, you know, honestly, probably 10, 15 years ago, you're like, yeah, actually, I'm gonna go get a trade. Everybody's like, you idiot. Go to college and get a degree.
SPEAKER_07No, go to college and get a computer science degree.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah, oh yeah. Pay a bunch of money and get a degree, dude. What a play it was for all those guys that are like, oh, hell no.
SPEAKER_04Congratulations, you spent all this money on college and you majored in art. Yeah. Like, what is that doing? Like, nothing.
SPEAKER_07You know what's so funny about that is for 10 years, like before the AI boom, like in like from 2010 to 2020, everybody got pushed to, oh, you gotta do computer science. The world is going computer. Right. You gotta you gotta learn how to code from the code. Yeah, it's all been means. And now, dude, AI is putting every computer scientist out of business because AI does everything they can do.
SPEAKER_06It goes to show you that the universe is so brutal. Whenever there's a trend, go the opposite. You have to. If you follow suit, you're gonna be you're gonna get screwed every single time. It just does that for some reason, doesn't it? Wow.
SPEAKER_04It really is to know a trade and like like you know HVAC. You'll never have to worry about sweating or freezing again. Not in the damn south. You can own your own business. I mean, you know how to do that, dude. That's it. Yeah, you went to school for that. Like you can, you are your own money-making machine.
SPEAKER_06Yep. You know what's funny is people used to always make fun of plumber's crack. Oh, yeah. You wish kiss my plumber's crack, buddy. I'm gonna go on uh after I fix your shitty situation. I'm going on vacation, bro. Yeah, I'm going to Turks and Cake out. Yeah, dude. I mean, the plumbers are making a killing.
SPEAKER_07Bro, emergency plumbing on the weekend is 1,500 bucks for them to come fix something, dude.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_07It's insane, dude.
SPEAKER_06You need something coded, hey, I'll just like that.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, oh yeah, they're taking coders' jobs left and right. Hey uh, I I mean it's gonna be helpful for a lot of things, but by God, it's also some bullshit. Yeah. It really is. Like it's it's gonna be super helpful, but you gotta learn how to use it. It's it's gonna replace things too, but by the way. It's a great tool. I like to I like to be the guy that denies it, but at the same time, you we gotta accept it at some point, right?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I mean, it's a part of I'll I don't know. I'll never get into the should I say that. Like when they create robots or whatever, but maybe we'll die before then. Everything, dude. I mean, everything's going to like this surveillance state or whatever. You know what I mean? Yeah. So I mean, it's gonna take some time before it gets there, but like, what a scary place. Like, you've got a daughter, like kids coming in.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I mean, I've got a I've got a 17-year-old and a one-year-old. So I used to do again. Like, I've told my 17-year-old about the straight thing. I'm like, son, like, don't go to col like if you don't want to go to college, don't. Please don't. Like, go go to a trade school. Yes. Oh, yeah. You will like don't make the mistake I did. Like make some money and do something with your life. Like, uh go to trade school. Like, learn a trade. Learn to work with your hands. Like you will make you will never be you'll never make it.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, soft hands ain't counting no paper no more. No.
SPEAKER_04If you don't got calluses on your hand, you ain't counting no paper. No, for a long time, I mean, with YouTube and and all this, you know, like you have little kids growing up going, Yeah, I want to be a content creator, I want to be a YouTuber, I want to be a streamer. Sure, there is, but I mean it's all about it's like a one percent or if you have it. The it factor for somebody to watch you.
SPEAKER_07Being a content creator is like being a professional athlete. Like it's like one percenter. Like growing up, it's like a dream. It only happens for one percent of people.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, do you have it? Maybe less than that.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. It goes with it's just like music. Um, do you do you have it or not?
SPEAKER_06Like it's such a saturated market, you've got to have something that stands out.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, yeah, yeah. Or you just be so normal that it works.
SPEAKER_06You mean so plain that it works. When I was in fifth grade, I think I've told this on there before, but I wanted to be an astronaut so bad. No, you don't. I wanted to be an astronaut so bad. And uh it's crazy to think as a fifth grader. Like, I I like worship my teacher that loved science and loved outer space. And then I grow up to become a guy that doesn't even believe in outer space.
SPEAKER_03You're a flat earther and you know you're not gonna be.
SPEAKER_06I'm damn near a flirther, and I at one point in time I wanted to be, you know, I cared about Pluto and shit. Yeah, that's so funny, bro. I would have I would have argued that it was the ninth planet, you know?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it was Weatherman, radio DJ, uh country guitar player and singer. That was you, yeah. That was a good one.
SPEAKER_07Dude, you had like the third one, the fourth one.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that was pretty good. The weatherman, yeah, dude. Like, I love like I hate bad storms, but there's something about them like kind of speaking to me as like this this this shit can get bad, like shit could be blown away, you know, but damn, it's scary, but also like, dude, like like James Fann, he's in his fucking suspenders and like he's you know, like get to your safe space right now. Like can you imagine being on TV like like just conducting this storm across the you know, like please be safe.
SPEAKER_07This is terrible to say, but I love when it gets bad. Oh, dude. Oh, I'm getting fired up.
SPEAKER_06It's headed to for some reason killed a family of four and it's headed to Hacklebird.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, for some reason, the worst the storm, it makes everybody want to go outside and go around.
SPEAKER_07It's pitch black in the middle of the night and you're out there looking for a damn tornado, like that's gonna do it. Oh my god. I love when there's bad weather. I get fired up for it too.
SPEAKER_06I like it. Well, if you're in a like I we got a basement here, so I know I'm on the that's the thing. Yeah, if you got if you got somewhere to go, you're like, ah, I ain't too worried about it. I mean, it would have to, did something just click out? Something didn't know. It would have to like the odds of a tornado hitting you, they're not great. I mean, but it happens.
SPEAKER_07Shit, if it happens, you're cooked. Yeah, dude.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, it's only 400 miles an hour and we're just destroying your house on spot.
SPEAKER_01Take your ass off the odds, bro. Unfortunately, where we live, when the weather starts changing, it's just it's inevitable. Because the valley or something. Somebody's getting hit. I mean, we could get them we could get them in April.
SPEAKER_07We're in a yeah, it's like the Tornado Alley has that jet stream and it comes straight across like the Midwest into the Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama area where we are.
SPEAKER_04We could get them in April, we could get them in December. Like it doesn't matter.
SPEAKER_07Like, when you have like when you whenever the weather changes, remember like sometimes the weather will come through and the weather changes from hot to cold really quickly. Oh, yeah. That's what that comes from.
SPEAKER_06Do you remember? I mean, two weeks ago we had a tornado.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Like 80 degrees, and it snowed all in the same week.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_04All in the same week.
SPEAKER_07That's what I was saying to Jordan outside. All the rednecks will be like, Man, if you don't like the weather in Alabama, just wait till tomorrow. Just give it a bit.
SPEAKER_06Damn, that is pretty clever.
SPEAKER_07It's funny.
SPEAKER_06Redneck's got the best saying.
SPEAKER_07That's what my granddad would say. If you don't like it, wait till tomorrow.
SPEAKER_06Oh, dude. There used to be so much just honor and everything they say. My granddad, he's got the best things. It's just like one liner king. And everything's so true to be something as simple as like, if it ain't helping you, it's hurting you. Yeah. Damn. It's like literally, like every single thing in my life, if it is not putting a plus, it's giving me a minus. Such a simple saying just to encompass so many different things. Yeah, it's either black or white. Yeah. No, not like that.
SPEAKER_07I'm just saying, like, there's no room, there's no room for gray area. I'm just telling you. Not like black or white, like literature cheap.
SPEAKER_08I can't wait to clip that. It's like black or white.
SPEAKER_07Oh, bro, raises. Jeez, bro. I'm literally just saying, like, it's either like you said it's either plus or negative. Yinning yay, black or white. Which one's plus? No, I'm not peanut butter or jelly.
SPEAKER_08It's either one way or the other.
SPEAKER_06Oh my God. That is so funny.
SPEAKER_07That was on me, boys. Sorry.
SPEAKER_06But dude, it is great. It's great weather right now.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, it's beer drinking weather, dude.
SPEAKER_06Literally is. Feels great, but you don't like the heat, dude.
SPEAKER_04Dude, the sun hates me, and I hate the sun. It's so hot. Like, look, like right now. Jordan's sweating right now. I'm sweating right now. Like, dude, I walked in and saw these cameras and these lights and that black couch, and I was like, wait a minute, what's going on here? Uh yeah, like what wait a minute. What do you guys talk me into here, guys? Come on.
SPEAKER_07Hey, the best thing Jordan said to me, he said, Oh, yeah, we're in that time of the year where I don't have to bring five shirts to change out of at one gig. So true, dude.
SPEAKER_08But we're getting close to it.
SPEAKER_04Oh man, like I have one week out of the year. Like it could be 30 degrees, and we're playing Flow Bama, and I'm standing in the alley on break, and I'm just steam is coming off of my just bald head, sweaty. And everybody's out there bundled up, shaking, huddled around a cigarette, trying to stay warm. I'm just out there, hey, what's up, guys? No jacket. Literally fire. Just looking like I just jumped in the river and got out. Yes, dude.
SPEAKER_06Soaking wet. Dude, it gets, but he does get it really hot here. Oh God. Like when it's like 90 plus, that shit is.
SPEAKER_04Dude, you walk out like it could be like June. You walk out at 6 a.m. It's like walking out into a wet towel. A hot heat. It's so humid.
SPEAKER_06There's a difference in the heat. Like I like Texas heat and Alabama heat are different because it's like it's something about like in Texas, like the sun cuts all the way through.
SPEAKER_04I've never I want to experience a dry heat like Arizona versus here where it's so humid.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, Arizona and California are definitely different. Texas is similar to here. It's humid there.
SPEAKER_04Like I I get, like it's it's 98 degrees, 101 degrees out there. It's like a sauna versus like a yeah, like what's yeah, you know, I know like a steam room versus a dry sauna right here.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, I was I was telling Jordan I when I lived in Arizona, I lived there for two summers, and we'd wake up at 6 a.m. in the middle of July, and it would be 101 at 6 a.m. and it wouldn't feel you'd walk outside and feel cool. You can sit out there and you know, it's almost like you wake up here and it's 68 in the morning, you know, and you're like, oh, this is great. 101 out there is like equivalent to that.
SPEAKER_06How about like 110?
SPEAKER_07When it was 115 in the day, it you wouldn't sweat really nearly as much as here. Yeah. Dude.
SPEAKER_06But I mean, the sun didn't burn you or it did, or yeah, you would get sunburned.
SPEAKER_07You definitely had to wear sunscreen, but like the feeling of the heat. You know how here you're suffocated? Like you're drowning. It feels like you seriously can't breathe out there. It's not that bad. It feels like a blow dryer. Like a blow dryer's on you, kind of. Right. Yeah. But yeah, here's worse than there for sure.
SPEAKER_06Speaking of uh radon. Speaking of dying. Look at this guy. What up? What up, Joe? Speaking of dying in the in Alabama, I've got this radon detector right here. So my dad, my neighbors had high radon, but they, you know, they said, Oh, we got a crawl space. You don't have to worry about it. You're on a slab. So my dad got one for their lake house. He checked it and his levels were like five. He's like, Oh, yeah, we gotta get something done. Because it says right here So five is bad. It says four plus contact a professional and keep monitoring. Okay. So I set this some bitch up, and I get a for seven, like three or four days and I don't check it. The average of every single day was 124. What? A hundred and twenty-four. So we're just sitting here. I've spent most of my life in this house. We're just sitting here breathing radar. We're breathing radar in. So right now the radar. Right now, the seven-day average is 48. That is absurd. That's 12 times higher than that. One day average is 3.9. So we've had a good day. Okay. Okay. So what's the side effect? Because it's 40 right now. Lung cancer.
SPEAKER_07There ain't no side effects. You just get lung feeling. Oh my God. Okay. Immediately when I find out I'm never coming back again.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, immediately when I find out I'm like I got some flames.
SPEAKER_04You know, I've had a little tickle in my throat for the past couple months.
SPEAKER_06It's weird. That was my dangling.
SPEAKER_04I'm not saying my throat. I was talking about you. Your throat. I was talking as if I was you.
SPEAKER_06But uh it's a it's a long kill at least.
unknownFuck.
SPEAKER_04Slow kill, I guess.
SPEAKER_06It's a slow kill. I mean, it takes time.
SPEAKER_07Radon decided.
SPEAKER_06How do you get rid of radon? You gotta just draw like a you gotta dude on a slab? I mean, I can't imagine that you could. I mean, because it's the limestone and it's just the gas comes up. I mean, you have to somewhere or another, like, tap into underneath and like have a ventilation system and have like a pipe or two that run out and try to pull it out from the ground. I mean, I would assume. Yeah, sounds like fifteen thousand dollars or something that's not gonna do shit nowadays. I mean, you know, uh if you want to make money, AI ain't ever gonna take over a damn radon job.
SPEAKER_07So yeah, maybe that's our business idea. We start radons aren't even real. We start putting in radon ventilation systems, yeah. I'm starting to think it's gonna be real.
SPEAKER_06It was my death, it was my death that gave you the idea.
SPEAKER_04Do we have proof radons really hurt anybody? Okay, well then there you go.
SPEAKER_06Then who cares? It's not real. If you can't see it, it's not real.
SPEAKER_07The only time I've ever heard of radon was in the office. Does anybody watch The Office? They have the radon test kits and they make fun of it. They thought they were ant catchers, but they were throwing away. They thought it was an ant catcher, but it was a radon test.
SPEAKER_06It's just funny. But yeah, apparently, like a lot of places don't have radon, but it's kind of a it's I think about it as like with human beings, what seems to be the problem is convenience kills us. Whatever is convenience for us ends up killing us. And so, not not you know, you don't have windows now, you don't let breezes go through your house, we're just circulating the air, yeah, you know, air conditioning to keep us comfortable. It's ironic that a radon gas would be in here and kill me.
SPEAKER_04So you're saying we can smoke in here, right? I light up a cigarette for this podcast.
SPEAKER_06You are safer in Stagger Lee's than you are my basement.
SPEAKER_04I mean, we can turn your basement into Stagger Lee's right now if you'd let me light up.
SPEAKER_07Dude, have you burped your house? What? That's a real thing, like Tupperware. Yeah, you got burping. Burping your houses. So they say for like once a day you should open both your doors, a couple doors. Open it for burp your house. They call it burping your house. Open all your doors for 10 to 15 minutes and close the doors every day.
SPEAKER_06That should be a given. You should want fresh air.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_06You know, it's just like a doctor when you got a health problem, they're like, Well, have you tried walking? You know? Now we're prescribing burping the house. It's like it's the craziest shit. Like, literally, a hundred years ago, people would look at us and laugh their ass off and be like, how do we get to that? They'd probably shoot you.
SPEAKER_07They heard me say, hey man, you've been burping your house.
SPEAKER_06I'm gonna save the human race. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04If you burped your house, you your radon level might not be as well. I do. I burp it every single day.
SPEAKER_06I I dude, I leave windows open every day, all day. Right now, there's two open upstairs.
SPEAKER_04There's a well then why am I not smoking a cigarette right now? Come on. Yeah, dude. Let's make it clean up. It's gonna be cigars in here, dude. I thought this guy was cool. Who's this who's this fat bearded guy?
SPEAKER_06Well, dude, we didn't talk about this. We talked about this before the pod, right? The cigarettes. Like, I mean, we talk about it on it. Like, I I would smoke if I didn't smell like a cig, man, because there's nothing cooler than smoking a cig. You watch like cool doing it. Dude, anybody in the 50s and 60s that are sitting there smoking, they look bad and they're in a suit smoking a cigarette, drinking whiskey.
SPEAKER_07It's Thomas Shelby, PQ Blonders, dude. Him smoking a cigarette. Have y'all watched that show? I I've heard of it, but I've never seen it. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Like the last restaurant I remember around here being able to when they asked you for seating, no, smoking or non-smoking, when they seated you, was uh O'Charlie's when we had O'Charlie's Charlie's before. It's like I think it now it's like Longhorn. My stepdad used to cook it O'Chari's.
SPEAKER_06We went to Casa the other night, and Casa literally asked me smoking or non-smoking. Oh, okay, yeah, that's true. A lot of them, yeah, but not a lot of them, but yeah. Very rare Avalon. Yeah. And oh, they might have got rid of it. I don't know. I think it's been there because the food's so dog shit. Yeah. But Casa, uh, they still have they have a smoking section. That's badass.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, don't give me wrong. I love to smoke a cigarette if I could have a beer at the same time and not having to go outside. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_06You know what I think of when I think of smoking indoors at a restaurant? I think of those Bud Light girls that they have the posters of at the restaurant. I equate cigarettes inside with like the bikini uh smoking a cigarette. Oh my god, I need a cigarette. Like 10 years old, you're like, I don't know what that is, but I like it. I like it. I like it a lot.
SPEAKER_04The smells associated with it. That's why I love when we play the booth so much. Because like me and Evan are the only one who smokes in the band. And you can smoke in there, but nobody's smoking in there. It's all children, so they're all vaping. And you know, so like me and Evan are the two old men up there. No, I usually just hold it. I usually just hold it between these two fingers and like dude.
SPEAKER_06It looks badass. It really does. It looks so cool. I'm jealous of it.
SPEAKER_04It's totally bad for you, but yeah, makes you look so cool.
SPEAKER_08Should have been a blue cowboy.
SPEAKER_04No, if if I tried to put it up at the like the headstock, uh, you know, I would it would it would just be like a comedy routine at that point. It'd fall off, you know, and I'd be like, so quick.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_04No, I'm I'm just holding it. I have I have held it in between my fingers where it's burnt down, and I'm like, fuck. I gotta I gotta drop this thing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_07Oh yeah. How did y'all meet each other?
SPEAKER_04I well, I met Austin. Uh so I I caught up a buddy of mine named Evan Lane, who who is our drummer, of course. And uh he was uh you know uh he was doing a session at Ivy Manor, and I was like, dude, what are you what are you doing today? And he was like, uh I'm I'm recording this uh session over here at Ivy Manor in Sheffield, and uh on this new guy that we he he like got up and sang a couple songs with us at Flo Bama the other night. I was like, cool, was he good? He was like, Yeah, actually, yeah, he was pretty good. Like uh so yeah, we're we're gonna we're gonna see what's up. And okay, cool. And I'm like, well, uh, all right, I'll let you go. He was like, Well, if you're not doing anything, just come over here and hanging out. Like, you know, I'm sure we'll get you on it, you know, like Trey's on it, and you know, we'll put you on acoustic or something. I'm like, he's like, Gary, Gary's producing it. I'm like, okay, great. So uh I go over there and uh I'm I'm I'm waiting on everybody else to get there. I think Evan's there, and I'm waiting. I've never met Austin, I don't even know who this guy is. And then he uh he pulls up in his truck and he hops out and he's got like yellow crocs on and like yellow should have just knocked the shit out of me.
SPEAKER_06I'd like you to get it.
SPEAKER_04They were yellow shorts, shorts. Like they like they probably didn't say juicy on the ass, but they might as well. They might as well had said juicy on the ass. You know, so I'm like, you know, and I'm outside smoking a cigarette, waiting, you know, waiting for you know the session to start and you know for him to get there, and then he pulls out and like, who the hell is this guy? Yeah, like oh, oh, the the frat guy's got a couple songs that he wants to demo today. Like, okay, this ought to be good. Like, like I'm looking at it like, all right, this is either gonna be really good or I've got a really funny story to tell my fur, you know, tell who wasn't here on this session with me today. Yeah. So uh, you know, we go in and and and Gary Nichols uh is producing it, and uh, you know, we're we're getting set up for the for the day, and and sure enough, you know, I I end up on it and gonna play some acoustic and we're we're on the back porch uh you know, just kind of conversating and and you know getting to know uh Austin a little bit. And he's like, Well yeah, let me let me play the songs that we're gonna do today. He had like three and uh Whiskey Talks? Yeah, it was a whiskey whiskey talks higher in uh geez. Uh no, Birmingham. Oh, Found Love Birmingham, Birmingham. So, you know, and so he he starts playing, I can't remember which one he played first, but uh he starts playing one and uh I was like you know that's that's not bad. That's pretty good. Oh shit. What's up? But yeah, uh, you know, uh I was like, you know, this the the that's not bad for uh you know first impression, you know. I hadn't even talked to this guy yet. You know, I just you know I'm basing it off of what I see here. And uh I was like, you know what, this this ain't too bad. So I I was really listening and I was like, you know, that's that's pretty good. And and we did the the songs, and uh, you know, again, I wasn't even supposed to be there that day. And then like at the end of the day, I'm in the kitchen, you know, hanging out, and he's like, comes up to me, hands me like 300 bucks. He's like, uh oh. Like, he's like, Yeah, you played on three tracks, right? And I'm like, Yep.
SPEAKER_06I didn't even know he wasn't supposed to be on it. I just found out today that Jordan owes me $300. Well, you should know you nothing, buddy. I worked for that. I had no clue he wasn't even supposed to be on the work. Gary, you should have told me that we're on his way.
SPEAKER_04No, I mean, if anything, thank you, Evan Lane, for the work for the papers. That that paid uh that paid a power bill or a rent.
SPEAKER_07So thank you, Evan. You sound like the guy that did the NASCAR prayer. Oh, oh God, who is that? Have you not seen that video of the guy saying the prayer before the NASCAR race? No. Thank you, God, for my smoking hot wife, and thank you, God, for these 750 horsepower engines. It's similar to that, but you sounded just like it when you were like, Thank you for that power, Bill.
SPEAKER_04Seriously though, I mean I was definitely grateful. But yeah, I could not believe that like this Bratt College guy with the banana yellow Crocs and booty shorts is uh just paid me $300 to play on his uh his acoustic demos. And uh and then after that, I was like, uh, man, dude, here's my number. Like uh
SPEAKER_03You know, that's a nice truck you're driving there, sir.
SPEAKER_07That's hilarious, dude. I was rolling more then.
SPEAKER_04But yeah, he uh you know, yeah, he eventually, yeah, he was like, yeah, he eventually called me and uh now I'm here today.
SPEAKER_07Now you've probably played more shows with Bo than anyone, right? I would think. Probably maybe so.
SPEAKER_06Like I feel like I've been to a lot of like shit. I don't know, because if it's acoustic, me and him will hit it. So always. That's what I'm saying. Like so many doubles. Oh, yeah. Absolutely. Probably him and I mean, probably, yeah, probably. He's played more. I played more shows with him than probably anybody.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_06I I guess so. Crazy.
SPEAKER_07I just feel like how many, what do you call it? A two-piece? Sure, two big things. I'm trying to do a music lingo.
SPEAKER_06It's almost like it's almost like being in the bedroom with your woman. Hear me out here.
SPEAKER_04I mean, we have we have shared a hotel room together. Oh, well. Kingbed? Hey. Well, no, it's Severbeds. I was disappointed it wasn't a Kingbed, actually.
SPEAKER_06I'll play a song. He knows what I'm gonna do. It's just like, hey. Yeah, yeah. We 10 minutes into the Netflix show, and I'm hey, hey, yeah. We next. Here's that move I hit on you last night. Yeah, you want that same thing? There's that hand on the hand on the thigh. Here's that hand on the thumb. You remember that?
SPEAKER_04Well, you know, it's like there's my foot going against your leg. Like the first three songs then. It's like Austin gives you the first three songs. Hey, we're gonna do this, this, and this. And then after that, it's like Austin goes, you know, just goes in for that move. Like, you know, like then you're like, okay, I know where this is going. So we'll just go, we'll just go with it, you know.
SPEAKER_07Oh yeah. I'll tell you this. Jordan has Jordan has one of the best songs, I think. Bar Downtown. It's my favorite. Thank you. Seriously, no offense, but one of my favorite songs I've ever heard written. You've you've got a lot of my favorite songs I've ever written. A good song is a good song. Bar Downtown, Jordan. And if if you're out there, do you have it on anything?
SPEAKER_04We plug it. It's on YouTube. Uh it's like a video of just me on my iPhone and uh Boys.
SPEAKER_07If you're listening out there, look up Jordan Denton Bar Downtown. It's one of my favorite ones, dude.
SPEAKER_04Put it out.
SPEAKER_06I mean, in the world of everybody doing digital shit, just do it. You know, I I have no have no desire to be like my own artist or but you but it's just like like with the Eagles, they've got sure, they've got you know the multiple different people doing the different things. Yeah. I will pay for you to go in and cut it.
SPEAKER_04We don't I mean, look at look around here. We have so much uh I've already paid for it. It's here. Exactly. We're cutting it tonight. Dude, let's do that. Oh my god, are we cutting bar down's hair? That would be a good thing. Oh, are you gonna play on it? Cold Coldos it, Coldos all the work. Let's go.
SPEAKER_06Let's do it. I'm gonna get drunk, unfortunately. There we go. Rest of the water. Thank you. Thank you.
SPEAKER_04I I don't I have uh, you know, I guess uh I try to write songs. I I'm not a very good songwriter, but that way it seems like every song that uh I'm a terrible co-write. It's like I can't uh seems like all the songs that I do have that I've wrote, it's uh they've just kind of fell out and just kind of like hit me.
SPEAKER_06Co-writing is uh it's a lot of who you're with and who I mean, you know, you don't have to it's more of the anxiety of like, man, I don't know why should I s am I gonna say stupid if I throw this out?
SPEAKER_04Like I wrote with tough, but always say it. Like I I I've I wrote with like I wrote with James LeBlanc one time and we were at fame and we were in in Rick Hall's office, you know, and that's a big deal. Like to be able to go up there and and write a write a song in in that office with that caliber of a songwriter of that James is and um the whole time. I mean, we we sit up there for an hour. I probably didn't say too much. I was I was like I was scared to death. Like scared to death because like it was just so awkward. So awkward. You know, like like what do I what do I do? And like we we had a verse in a chorus, but I mean over an hour. He had a verse in a chorus. Exactly. It felt like pulling teeth on my end because I'm like, man, I this dude's wrote hit songs.
SPEAKER_06Like, yeah, like what do I I've been in a room with James and he wouldn't mind me saying this. I've heard him say dumb shit, and he's heard me say dumb shit. Yeah. We're gonna say dumb shit. Right. You know? I've heard him say shit, and I'm like, no, and he's heard me say shit that he's probably like, what?
SPEAKER_04Well, you know, it's different, it's different to have a co-write session when it's when it's scheduled versus when it just naturally happens.
SPEAKER_06You know, like scheduled is there's anxiety with it. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_04Like I've done a scheduled right with you and a and another person, and like this this other person is a like you know, super like a great songwriter and everything, but like I thought I was too afraid to say anything because I felt like it was gonna be stupid or he was gonna shut it down, you know.
SPEAKER_07It's like a hang, like, dude. Also, I don't know shit about songwriting, but I can imagine it's like showing up to the baseball field and you you're with a new team, all the guys in the bullpen, and it's like awkward. It's like, how do you break that silence of like I always I always turn to you drink beer?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah, yeah. What kind of beer do you drink? Well, it's like no it, but the worst part is you can like Google people too. So if it's accredited songwriter, it's like it's like going into like you're starting a new team and you know everything about the guy. But he's gonna be amazing. And it's intimidating. Oh my god, he had a sub two ERA last year, and this is the guy I'm you know, I'm right.
SPEAKER_04You're nerding out about this guy. He knows nothing about you.
SPEAKER_06And you walk into a room and you're like, you gotta play it cool or you jerk off before you pitch, like that kind of thing.
SPEAKER_07That's only that would be the ice right there. I would break the ice with every guy ever. I asked Carlos Rodan that at the boat the first time I was around.
SPEAKER_04James, I'm super nervous. Let me go to the bathroom real quick. I'll get a I'll get a chorus while I'm in there. Okay.
SPEAKER_05Let me go smoke a cigarette.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Cigarette. Yeah. Should we do tick or tack or tack or tick? All right. Hold on. I gotta go.
SPEAKER_04What can we do? Damn it.
SPEAKER_03I don't know.
SPEAKER_08Have you jerked today? Oh man, I'm just gonna dance. Can we reschedule? Can we take can we take time?
SPEAKER_06Reschedule this. I'm sorry. I'm just not ready.
SPEAKER_04I'm sorry. I wasted your time. I'm so sorry.
SPEAKER_06Creating a song is a weird thing too, man, because at any given point it can go in a weird direction. It can go in it can go in a good direction, a bad direction. It can just turn it can do a 180. So I mean, like, if you do overthink it, your influence, you're like, oh I might I might run it. Well, dude, you might. You might. But just just run with whatever you got and go with it because you're gonna write another one eventually.
SPEAKER_07It feels like it's all vibes, too, right?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it is.
SPEAKER_04I mean, yeah, it is. It really is. Uh it's about like the the mood you're in, and like do you do you come in blank with no ideas, or do you come in with an idea sometimes? You'd argue both are great. You know? Yeah. You could like you may come in with an idea and then it's not even it just normal. Like it's so it's so weird. Like, I I can't I don't know, I just feel like uh I'm just gonna say something stupid, or you know, you gotta get all the dumb shit out of the way.
SPEAKER_06Hey, my favorite one before you can really just say that I don't know. My favorite thing I say is before I dude, if you ever want to sell somebody on a line, don't do what I do. I'll be like, this line could be good. I'll be like, all right, well, yeah, I got something. It could be gay, but hear me out. So I mean, like, automatically everybody's like, this might be gay. It seems like every single time.
SPEAKER_04It seems like every co-ride I'm in, it's like everybody's serious and they're trying to like they're in their own mind and they're trying to like think of something cool. And all I can think about is the fucking parody, fucking dub shit, like that rhymes like like you're in like fifth, sixth grade. Like that's gonna work like dude, you but you know you said heart. Oh, that rhymes with fart.
SPEAKER_06Like I what what dude's like you know, like stupid shit. It's gotta be a dick. So my brain can't get away from that.
SPEAKER_04I'm like, well now I'm just gonna say something stupid, so I just might as well shut up. Maybe they'll come up with something cool.
SPEAKER_06I don't know a lot, but I know how to get rid of that. You gotta say it. You gotta get this out. Yeah, fart and dark. There we go. And then you just then you get back to it because either otherwise it'll eat you a lot. Right, it will. It really will. It will. And dude, it's never 90% of the time it's not even funny. No, it's not funny. In your head, you're like, this is so funny, I gotta say it. And then nobody laughs.
SPEAKER_04Only a fourth grader or fifth grader would think this shit is funny.
SPEAKER_06Music's weird, man.
SPEAKER_04It doesn't. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01I think creating consistently, you gotta have ideas and be willing to not use any of those ideas. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06You really do. You know, just gotta go with the flow, really.
SPEAKER_01Because it's worse when nobody has an idea. That and then everybody gets all like, what, we gotta come up with something.
SPEAKER_06Okay, I had this hook a long time ago. That's when I'll be like, oh, I got this hook.
SPEAKER_04It could be gay, but it's also so intimidating. It's also so intimidating to be like, at the same time, like, dude, this dude I'm riding with wrote for wrote this hit song for Travis Tredd or Jason Aldean or or Garth or or whoever. Yeah, that don't mean shit. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Because hey, at the end of the day, yeah, they may be great at it. I've written with some people that have written some hits that are badass. I've written with some people that have written some hits that are awful. Right, you're gonna write that. You're gonna write lucky and got in the room.
SPEAKER_04You've got to get those shitty ones out to get a good one.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. So I mean, dude, they put their pants on in the morning just like anybody, and they're probably stressed out about this right too, just like we are.
SPEAKER_04But long story short, I can't co-write. I'm a terrible co-write because uh I just sit there and be quiet the whole time. You know, and I'm like, I've seen him. He did that one. I really did. I sit there and stole my phone. Dog shit. Because I was like, I'll just say it. Everything I thought was cool, like it was shot down. So I'm like, uh, yeah, but you're like a Bob's guy.
SPEAKER_07You're the guy that smokes a cigarette, has a little puff puff and a little uh couple beers. I mean you brought have a good time. I mean, you brought you showed up today for the podcast. We didn't, I guess we didn't even really ask you. You brought in 24 beers.
SPEAKER_04Well, I mean he did, but I mean uh that was like a don't say that it was a it was a welcoming gift, you know.
SPEAKER_07You brought in 24 beers. I'm like, oh, this or I mean I've known you forever. Of course. You're a vibes guy. Like you're a guy that comes in, it's like, oh, mood's up, Jordan's here, let's have a good time.
SPEAKER_04The the most fun gigs I can think of is uh you being there, your your brother being there. Um yeah, I mean like uh Moe's barbecue. Stipping a hundred dollars. Yeah, uh that's what I was saying.
SPEAKER_07You know, he was talking about to piss people off of that.
SPEAKER_04You know, for a while there, I'm like how he loved, you know, the bar downtown. And I was like, for a while there, like Yeah, exactly. He would show up and like either shove a 20 or a 50 or a hundred in my pants pocket, you know, and like and also bring me a drink and you know, whatever you want, you know, like treat me like I'm rural to you. And I'm like, just you know, will you please play the song? And I'm like, well, yeah, man, of course. But I'm like, who's paying you to do this, man? Like, I'm like, what's going on with the Bob's guy?
SPEAKER_07It turns out Hunter's the Bob's guy, actually. I'm drunk and loud and throw money at everybody, I guess. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Man, it was so fun that first hour until he had to leave. He was so drunk.
SPEAKER_07Oh, man. No, seriously, Jordan, though, that is so funny because we have had some fun nights together, dude. We really have. Oh my God. It's actually countless a little bit.
SPEAKER_06Well, do you remember? I guess this would eventually it was me and you, but like it was me and Trey probably first off when you we the crust was like like woodstock.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_06You every Thursday you would come, bro. We would have people were writing out tables.
SPEAKER_07Dude, you couldn't even get you had to call before you had to show up three hours early or call in reserve.
SPEAKER_06People would show up three hours three hours early to the crust to get a table.
SPEAKER_07There would be 400 fucking people in a little pizza spot when you and Jordan and Trey and the boys would all call. Just because we all knew, like, oh, we know what we're getting. It's gonna be a fun ass night. Drinks are good, food's good, all the like it kind of became a staple for at least two years, dude.
SPEAKER_06Dude, it'd be for a while. It was badass. I remember one time it was, I mean, it was balls to butts in there. Oh, yeah. And uh every time you'd open the door, it was like a flood was coming in sideways. You know how hard it is to get people to come out in the rain?
SPEAKER_08Oh man.
SPEAKER_06And dude, it was like literally one in one out with just like tornadic weather rain. Yeah, oh yeah. Hey, we need to play there again. Yeah, we do. Just do like a pop-up surprise show.
SPEAKER_07Oh, y'all should. That'd be awesome.
SPEAKER_06And get everybody.
SPEAKER_07They would say yes. And if we invited the whole friend group, could you imagine how many people we'd have a hundred people come just out of our friend group that we talked about?
SPEAKER_06It's just like, man, like you never realize the good times until you're out of them. Like I wish I wish it was.
SPEAKER_04I wish it was Handy Week every weekend.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_04You know what I'm saying? Like Love Handy Week. Like, Handy Week is one of my I love Handy Week too because it falls in on my like in between my birthday. Like it's always in on my birthday sometime during the week. So I love Handy Week. Like there's multiple gigs, like everybody's out. There's music, live music everywhere. You know how it's always good.
SPEAKER_06Writing the song, I gotta get it out. Handy week's when she's on the rag, right? Yeah. That's how I was waiting for it to be. You gotta get it out.
SPEAKER_08It's either one of two things. It's just a hand job for you, or it's an OTPHJ during handy week.
SPEAKER_04That little Therese devil was on your chart. He's like, just say it, bro. I was like, Warren, please let me just say it. Let me say it.
SPEAKER_06God, no, Handy Week is cool, but it's not as cool as it used to be. Yeah, like uh not as many people go out or something. I don't know what it is. Not many people, not as many people appreciate live music or just the festival itself is just not at that.
SPEAKER_07So last week of July, right?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. This this area out here is like uh it's kind of like uh we're so spooled to have there there is live music somewhere every night of the week here in town. And it it it's good. Like very good. You can see good live music on a Tuesday or Wednesday. There's so many of us fighting for a gig. Like there's so many musicians and so little venues here that you know we're we're all fighting for a gig. And and and everybody that plays in the circle is you know, they're they're they're good and they're and they're worth it. You can go out any time. That's why I wish it was Handy Week all the time because you know, multiple sh like during lunch, you got you know, 12 to whatever, and then you got like an evening thing, and then you got a late thing, you know, multiple restaurants and sh, you know.
SPEAKER_07Dude, I won't lie. Two years ago I treated Handy like spring break. I mean, I drank every day, all day. It was like waking up at the beach and getting drunk again because Bo played like five nights on a row. So we're all living hell for me. I bet it was. And for us, it was just ballistic. We were having so much fun.
SPEAKER_06Every day I've got to like have energy and drink and perform. And I had like two, sometimes three gigs a day. Yeah. I don't never do that much.
SPEAKER_04That's what I love about any week. It's like it seems like all the musicians around here like they make their you make you make a wide. Yeah, you make your nuts. Yeah, you do that. Yeah, you make a you make your you make your thing, man.
SPEAKER_07I'm with it. Speaking of WC Handy, I don't know that if anyone out there should know who WC Handy is, but he played the blues, right? Yep. It's so weird that we're and he's from here.
SPEAKER_05I don't know shit about music.
SPEAKER_04He was the father of the blues, WC Handy, Florence, Alabama.
SPEAKER_01He was the first one to write the blues down. Okay. Yeah, so that's why they call him that because he wrote it down like on a staff or whatever.
SPEAKER_04And then Helen Keller was right across the river. She's shaking. I see Kelly's shakes. Automatically notes or hear them.
SPEAKER_06Somebody make some damn money off Helen Keller. They're like, Helen, we're gonna roll this woman up here that can talk, and she's blind, deaf, and mute. Everybody just balled it. Dude, I pay us 20, you get to meet her, she'll say water. Oh, she didn't say it today, but she'll say it tomorrow.
SPEAKER_04I was playing uh with this uh that's it. Yep. I was playing with this girl, um, Ali Colleen, and uh did some tours with her, and I was telling her about you know this area and and muscle shows music history and that we had a Helen Keller festival. She thought I was joking. She's like, You guys have a Helen Keller festival? Yeah. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_08You did headline it. Absolutely. Oh, dude.
SPEAKER_04We knew.
SPEAKER_06We had a breadline, but it was so much fun. Like, yeah, I just went out there and we just literally just plugged up and we didn't even play a single note.
SPEAKER_07I know y'all had an RV, y'all had an RV pulled up beside it, and I was blitzkrieg drunk in the RV beside y'all when y'all were doing it.
SPEAKER_06You know what my opening line was? What? I come out and I go, Helen Keller Festival, can you hear? Or can or let me say, let me hear y'all. What? Can we hear you? Oh because you know, she couldn't hear. Oh my god. Okay, sorry.
SPEAKER_07Dude, that went over my head. Do y'all follow like so all the comedians, like you know, you got Kill Tony and Joe Rogue get all the shit out in Austin? They hate when comedians come up and do Helen Keller jokes. And I always joke with my buddies, I'm like, guys, Helen Keller is from our fucking hometown. Yeah, people don't realize that. Yeah, and I say that we had a our buddy from Texas is here last week, and we were driving out to Tennessee Valley Country Club, and you pass Ivy Green, the home of Helen Keller, where she's born. We're just sitting in the truck and he goes, Oh my God. I said, What? And he goes, Helen Keller's from here. Really? This son bitch is from here. Even though we don't think she's real, but she's from here. I've never met a cousin, a descendant, anybody. Never met a family member, nothing.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I don't know anybody that I'm saying.
SPEAKER_07But the son bitch is deaf, blind, and can't talk and mute, and she can fly an airplane.
SPEAKER_06I mean, she had she she had everything wrong with her, didn't she?
SPEAKER_07She had it all.
SPEAKER_06I mean, she had that lady pretty much. I've never met somebody with all of them either.
SPEAKER_07Have you? I know a deaf guy. I know one deaf guy. I don't know a blind guy. No, I don't know. I know a blind guy. Do you know a blind guy?
SPEAKER_06I know a blind guy. I I don't I probably know a deaf guy. I know I knew a deaf guy.
SPEAKER_07Well, a deaf guy, they're technically mute too. Like they're never known all the mute. There's no way there's all three.
SPEAKER_06And can talk. Wait, you're mute? Wait, what? Mute and can talk? No. Well That's what I'm saying. Helen Keller was deaf, blind, and mute and learned to talk. But could talk. That ain't mute.
SPEAKER_07Bullshit.
SPEAKER_06She did sign language, right? It made more money if they said she was mute.
SPEAKER_04We're sounding real. She's a jack of all trades. Yeah, we're just telling the truth. Somebody there's a Helen Keller historian from the area watching this, going, that's not right. She's pissed. She's so fucking bad.
SPEAKER_07Actually, Helen Keller's the devil, dude. She's one of those demons you're talking about. Oh, they're dude.
SPEAKER_04We get on that for a while.
SPEAKER_06Well, dude, let's wrap up.
SPEAKER_04Let's uh we people are probably gonna definitely be wondering who the f I am. Uh we have not we've just random, we've just randomly talked about random shit.
SPEAKER_07Oh, absolutely, we will.
SPEAKER_04I mean, I have not talked about anything that we said we were gonna talk about.
SPEAKER_07That's the best part, buddy. You come on and shoot the shit.
SPEAKER_04This podcast may be terrible. Who knows? No, it's been great.
SPEAKER_07It's actually been awesome, dude. It's been great. I have enjoyed it.
SPEAKER_06Thank you for having me.
SPEAKER_04Dude, thank you for having me, man.
SPEAKER_06Give us a handy.
SPEAKER_07You're damn studs.
SPEAKER_06Give us a handy wake.
SPEAKER_07No, uh give us a bad dog. Give us your biggest, deepest bad dog you got. Biggest, deepest bad dog?
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
unknownWoof.
SPEAKER_08Oh that's a little jersey. Jersey looked up.
SPEAKER_04The damn dog looked up. There you go, Jersey.
SPEAKER_06No, that's a bad dog.
SPEAKER_04Jersey is a bad dog. She hates my guts.
SPEAKER_06Hell yeah, bro. Well, we'll do it again. I enjoyed the shit out of it. Thank you, man.
SPEAKER_04Hell yeah. Plus call will be fun in the morning. Oh, hell yeah. Y'all are playing Storkville tomorrow. Woohoo.
