Rob Zimich’s story begins in the mountains of British Columbia and carries a message that resonates far beyond them. After the heartbreaking loss of his son Alex in 2022 in a tragic boating accident near Nelson, BC, Rob discovered that grief and joy can coexist — and that healing often happens through community, connection, and movement. An avid bagpiper, pickleball player, and hiker, Rob and his wife Luisa found comfort among friends at Outdoor Resort Palm Springs (ORPS), where laughter and friendship slowly replaced the silence of sorrow. Each year, Rob honors Alex’s legacy through his support of KERPA — the Kootenay Emergency Response Physicians Association — raising awareness and funds for the first responders who fought to save his son’s life. Rob’s journey reminds listeners that resilience isn’t about “getting over” loss, but learning to carry it with grace — finding ways to live fully, love deeply, and help others do the same. “Grief never really ends — but neither does love.”
