Who are we? Well, we are your latest and greatest, and hopefully your favorites wrestling podcasts in the land. We are the section eight wrestling podcasts. I am kills at Wills. I'm billion. And today, tonight, whenever it is you are deciding to join our wonderful little corner of the internet, we're gonna give you one of our little special episodes, a little special episode. I since it is WrestleMania time at this point, at this time of recording, WrestleMania is about 48 hours away, 72, give or take. Um it's pretty close, pretty close. So I thought I thought it would be interesting if we all if we hit the blue rewind button and look back at last WrestleMania to see who was there at that WrestleMania, who is here at this WrestleMania, and to see if people kind of trended upwards, trended downwards, or just kind of stayed in the middle, you know, stuck in the middle with you, you know. So I thought that'd be a very cool thing. And I uh told my wonderful, wonderful partner over here that I would love to get some of his reactions for some of these things, and so we're gonna check it out. And maybe you have forgotten about some of these, and it's a good time to revisit last year's WrestleMania before this year's WrestleMania. So uh I wrote down basically the card in order from last year, and then what the what's happening this year at 42. So basically, um the the tagline is a lot can happen in a year, and boy can it! Yeah, last year, WrestleMania 41. The opening match was one main event. Jay Uso, who won the Royal Rumble. He was facing Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship. Yep, that was our opening match in WrestleMania. Gunther walked in as the champ, Jay walked out as the champ, making Gunther tap out. This year, Jay Uso is involved in a six-man tag match with his brother Jimmy and LA Knight, and they are facing the vision that's Austin Theory and Logan Paul with I Show Speed. What's left of the vision, anyway? What's left of the vision? That's what Jay Uso is doing, also starting off night one, actually, and not coming as a champion because he and his brother lost their tag titles to the vision. Uh Gunther is going to be facing Seth Rollins. Just in a straight up just match, and we can talk about we talk about why, because he says why. If you want to check out our recap, weekly recap, we'll let you know why Gunther is facing Seth. And the belt, which started off night one last year, is now the main event of this year.

So that's what we're gonna eventually. It is the end all be all of WrestleMania this year.

So uh, I mean, like you said, I mean, we'll st we'll we'll start with main event Jusso. How uh funny how neither one of these matches were main event. Um, but yeah, I I I think definitely he I mean, first of all, I don't think Jimmy was on the show at all last year. So upwards for Jimmy, because Jimmy's on the card. Uh but I'd say downwards for Jay, downwards for LA Knight, um downward. I mean upwards for Austin Theory, he's on the card, and he's a champion. So uh good for him. But yeah, that's it's a weird match. Yes, just all together, and just off of the Jay Uso was the guy last year. He was everybody was eating, everybody just everywhere. Pat McAfee was standing on the announced table when he was good guy, and he was yeeting with the crowd like nearly throwing out his shoulder, just yeeting so hard. Uh so I think just of this match, Jay Uso has had the biggest uh downward just yes, I agree. So uh yeah.

And then as far as Gunther, um, I mean he walked in last year as a champ. I mean he lost, but he was the champ last year, and now he's fighting Seth Rollins at a time when he kind of disappeared for a while and nobody thought he was gonna be on the card.

So right. Which is it's fine. I was listening to a fellow wrestling podcast uh no contest wrestling. Um, they were talking about sometimes you don't need it's it's wrestling. Like it's great to have a story, sure, but sometimes you have two veterans like these two, you don't need a story, you just want to see them go at it just for the heck of it. And that's what we're gonna get. It's gonna be a great match. Who cares what it's really about? It's going to be a great show because we know what these two can do in the ring. So I'm not really upset about that. I wouldn't say, I mean, yeah, Gunther was champion last year, sure. Uh, but I mean he's kind of riding high with retiring the last three uh super vets, like Hall of Famers, if you will. Um so I mean, I'm I'm maybe not a down, maybe just a little different. Yeah, Gunther, I'd say he's kind of kind of like you said, a little heavy, but I think he's kind of on the straight and arrow. So I'm looking forward to that match.

I hear you. Cool, cool. That brings us to our next match. It was the new day. Xavier Woods and Kovi Kingston versus the War Raiders, Eric and Ivar, for the World Tag Team Championships.

I forgot they were on the show last year.

The War Raiders walked in as champs. New day walked out as champions. None of these men are on the card. Xavier Woods is hurt, and the titles are not being defended. So there you go. That one's pretty easy all across the board. It's a bunch of downs. Yeah. Well then, all right.

Um, we we may see Kofi get involved in the latter match with because him and Javon have kind of been talking, and maybe Javon will join up with New Day. That'd be very cool. That's what you and I kind of want to see. But other than that, that we're not gonna see New Day, War Raiders. Who knows where they've been? Right. Um, they have a job. That's all we know. Um so yeah, just oh well. On to the next one.

On to the next one. That brings us to Jade Cargill versus Naomi. Jade beat Naomi. And now this year, Naomi isn't on the card, but she uh congrats. I wouldn't necessarily call it a down, it I'd give it a big up, and I don't mean this to sound like up or down Simon Miller, I know that's a thing. Um, so I I try to say trending in the right direction because I don't want to be like ups or downs. I don't want to get sued or anything, and I don't want to get cursed by Danhausen. Um, so I would say Naomi trending upwards because I mean she had a child. Congratulations to uh Naomi. I think she might pop up at WrestleMania, but a super huge up to Jade Cargill. Jade Cargill is going to be going against Rhea Ripley for the women's world championship, and Jade is walking in as the champ. So Jade the champ. I drink to that. Think to that. And a big also to talk about Naomi, big shout to Naomi. She was the women's world heavyweight champion and vacated the title. Never lost the title. Vacated the title because her and Big Jim Netflix and chilled a bit too much. So that's what happens, kids. That's what can happen.

Oh well. So looking forward to that match with Jade and Rhea. Yes. And we'll get to RIA later on in the episode.

Indeed. Uh, that brings us to Jacob Fatu versus LA Knight for the United States Championship. LA Knight walked in as United States champion. Fatu walked out as champion. And this year, Jacob Fatu is fighting Drew McIntyre in I Wish It Was a Throw Homem Off the Building match, but it's not. It's just an unsanctioned match. I mean, who knows, man? And LA Knight, as we mentioned, is involved in that tag match with the he's will be teaming with the Usos going against Vision and I Show Speed. Um, and the U.S. title is not being defended by wrestling. Uh yes, it is. Yes, it is. All right, all right, that's right. I wrote this list and then that match got announced. Yes, it is. Actually, it is. It will be Sammy Zayn and Trick Williams for the United States Championship. So, yes, that yes, that because that's right. I did write that before that happened. So, yeah, um LA justice for LA Knight, like we said. God damn it.

It's yep, completely not his fault. But I mean, he went in as champ and he left not champion, and now he's opening the show with a YouTuber. So I I guess two YouTubers. So I would say since last year he's been.

Yeah, I uh it sucks, man. And then it does, it really does. And then Fatu has had yeah, Fatu was injured for a bit, so he was out, he missed a little time. And yeah, he's gotten involved in messing up Drew McIntyre's life, so yeah, they're gonna have themselves a little taken scrap.

So, I mean, who knows what we'll see. They're in Vegas, they should do like uh a pre-tape kind of thing where they're fighting all through the streets of Vegas at some point in time, and then like they did at what was that, WrestleMania 10 or whatever with Gold Dust and Roddy Piper in the backstage Hollywood backstage brawl or whatever. Yeah, yeah. They should do something like that where they're just flying through casinos and stuff and just fighting all through Vegas down the strip until the end of an allegiance and just go at it in the somewhere until they get like thrown off the top of Allegiant they go, thrown off the top of Legion Stadium.

It's unsanctioned in Vegas at WrestleMania. Anything's possible. Hopefully, it's not just they leave the go to the ringside area and just through the announced table, ha un sanctioned.

So that brings us to it was El Grande Americano versus Ray Phoenix, and El Grande Americano won. Uh, since this time, El Grande Americano is now portrayed by someone else. People are saying it's Ludwig Kaiser. It's pretty much almost been confirmed it's Lutwick Kaiser. I'll say it here, it's the hill I'm gonna die on. I'm convinced it's not until the mask comes off. Because there will be a mass v mask with original El Grande Americano and El Grande Americano, but it won't be at WrestleMania, which is unfortunate.

Indeed. Brings us to uh whoo, this one's a rough one. Tiffany Stratton versus Charlotte Flair for the WWE Women's Championship. Tiffy came in as champ. Tiffy walked out as champ. Now, Charlotte is Charlotte is involved with her new BFF, and Charlotte won that year's World Rumble, by the way. It also did not main event, but that's okay. Uh, she will be teaming with her new BFF, Alexa Bliss, along with three other wonderful tag teams. It's Bailey and Lyra, the Bella twins and the champions. Uh, the the it's Last Legend of Nia Jax. I'm not gonna say their name here.

So that's what Charlotte's going to do. Tiffany Stratton is not on the card this year.

She is not. Uh, she was the winningest superstar last year. Uh she retained her title for the longest amount of time. Um, she, as far as I know, she is going to be at Marquee, that club, uh, doing some WrestleMania After Dark stuff, hanging out with other people. So that's what that's where Tiffy will be.

Now I do wonder if that's because maybe they're gonna use her sporadically because she did make a mention of wanting to go back and do like bodybuilding, and she got the blessing to do so.

So I but she should be on the I know she was she was trending upward until she's not. So uh there's little hints that she might be doing something with Chelsea Green in the near future, which would be a lot of fun, but we're not talking about that, we're talking about Mania and she's not there, she's not there. Charlotte is uh Charlotte's all year, Charlotte's been just kind of steady kind of ride. But it's it's been a great ride with with Alex Bliss. Yeah, they've had they've been a lot of fun this last year.

Yeah, but leading up to that WrestleMania match and kind of after until they she started things with Alexa Bliss, she was kind of in a bad place with the fans and the universe, the heel thing wasn't working. She had some real life stuff going on, so uh she's in a much seems like she's in a much better place, and her character is a much better place.

So I you know and before we move on, dare I say that Tiffy and Charlotte may have had the match of the year at WrestleMania last year.

It was a very good match. That match was dope, it was a very good match. And that brought us to main event night one, which last year was the big triple threat match. Seth freaking Rollins versus Roman Reigns versus CM Punk. Unless you're living under a rock in the wrestling world, you all know what happened. Seth Rollins won with the help from Paul Heyman. We got not one but two turns as by the same guy. Heyman turns on Reigns and Punk. This year, as we mentioned, Seth Rollins will be fighting Gunther, and Roman Reigns is in the main event again because he's that guy. Uh, for the world heavyweight championship, he will be fighting the best in the world, CM Punk.

So uh so uh we've already kind of touched on Gunther and Seth Rollins this year. So I mean Seth had a whirlwind of a ride between last WrestleMania and this WrestleMania. Born money in the bank, figured an injury, uh cashed in, actually got hurt, and now he's back wearing a trench coat in all black, kind of and no more masked men.

There was a masked man. There was a masked man phase, and then no more masked man, even though I um this is my hot take. I think the masked men will return at WrestleMania. If it's not just one, if it's not only not just one, it'll be a bunch, but and you'll think they'll be out there to help Seth, and some of them will. One is going to hit Seth, and it will be Brownbreaker. I'm okay with that. That'll be a big reveal.

I'm okay with that. Yeah, so Seth Rollins has stayed on the same same path, just kind of narrow. I mean, uh on the high end, obviously, people and so is Roman. He's Seth Freaking Rollins.

Yeah, so is Roman. Yeah, Roman was gone.

Yeah, I'm gonna say, and then and then Roman and Punk or Roman and Punk or Roman and Punk just it's it's the first time Punk is headlining now in a singles match. Yes, and he's going in as champion, so ultimate dream unlocked. Uh, so I mean they can't get any higher than where those two are at right now. So they're closing out night two in all of WrestleMania 42. It will be a good one. Looking forward to it.

Night two, it was EOSky, Bianca Bel Air, Versailles Ripley for the women's world championship, which some would say was probably one of the best matches of that year. Probably the best match of the entire WrestleMania.

Both women's matches were just they excelled, both of them.

EO walked in and walked out as champion, which is significant because this year, Rhea Ripley, as we said, is going to be fighting Jade Cargo for the women's world championship. Bianca Belair has been out since she injured her finger in that match. She broke her finger. She broke not just the finger, but the knuckle, just got smashed.

And it was healed wrong, and I think she had a baby in the meantime, too.

And had to have surgery, and I think she will pop up at the match uh at uh during her and Jade. I think she will pop up.

Yeah, that's that's what you've been saying.

So we'll see. But but here's the biggest, probably one of the biggest errors of this entire WrestleMania, billion. As of this moment, because we still have a Friday night smackdown. As of this moment, EO Sky is not on the card for WrestleMania.

No. She was she was seen as the underdog last year, even though she was going in as the champion. She retained when nobody thought she would. It was like 24 when Randy Orton retained against Cena and Triple H. Same kind of thing, just with the ladies like nobody expected it to happen. This match, like you said, was probably the match of WrestleMania 42, and it opened the show. Uh nobody, yeah, nobody saw it coming. Um, and EO just EO walked out still the champion, and that's when Rhea was like, All right, I respect you, and that's when they became are we best friends? Yep. So the fact we were talking about this before, uh, the fact that IO is not even on the card, she is probably the best woman in that locker room, like the most talented and has been putting in her work for the past the entire year, has been putting in her work. Same thing with another stub who snub who won't be mentioned because he wasn't on the card last year either, but Carmelo Hayes is also currently he has an honorable mention at the end of this whole thing because yeah, I couldn't. I think he won uh Andre and the Giant Battle Royal last year, but again, we're not talking about them, we're talking about the ladies. Yeah. Um so EO is definitely on the downward side, which is a shame because she had great matches that will that we talked about on this week, uh both nights, and she yeah, so terrible. Yep, just just terrible.

Um definitely again Rhea's Rhea's Rhea's Rhea Ripley. She's going into you know the numbers, she's going into her what's is it seven straight for a championship, eight straight, something like that?

Yeah, yeah, with like five different titles on the line. Like it's it's crazy the stat. But I mean, she's again, she's on the top for a reason.

She's the eradicator, and then I again I think Bianca will show up and she'll get a big pop at WrestleMania.

He needs to. She's been very missed, and I think even some of like the the younger fans have probably even forgotten a little bit because Bianca in quite some time. So please remind us of Bianca and that whip.

Let's go, Bianca. All right. Then we have funny enough, Drew McIntyre is in was in a street fight last year with David. That's right. Drew McIntyre ended up winning. Like we said, this year he's in an unsanctioned match, which is another fancy name for a street fight. Anything knows. And Priest is not on the card, but he is currently a tag team champion with R Truth. And I guess they have shirts that say like Wepa Truth. So they do. I don't know if that's the name, but that's now they have merched. So kind of kind of a weird, like, mm-hmm, like you're not on the card, but you are a champion.

He's still somewhat relevant. And hang with our truth, and you're using he again, he's just along for the ride at this point. So shoot to Damian Priest. Have fun, man.

And then McIntyre, it it's it's this, but the dip is low because he was a champion about a month ago.

He was a guy, and lost it on a smack down.

Yeah, and I get it. And now Cody Rhodes is the champion in main eventing. Again, we remind you a man who did not win the Royal Rumble and did not win an elimination chamber.

And was told he is not getting a rematch.

And was told he could not go for the melting.

Which I get it, I understand it. Drew McIntyre is going to shoot Highlander later on in the year, so he's got movie commitment. He's gonna be gone for a bit. So they're saying that's like Jacobs probably gonna do something gnarly to Drew to cause him to be out for a while. Uh, so I get why they did that whole angle thing, but still, I mean, uh, we we've been talking about it this past year since we started this podcast. Drew McIntyre is one of the best they have, and he needs a proper championship run. Right. Because again, at least he won this one in front of people, but then he played coward and kind of ran around the whole time and kind of hit.

Yeah, it was rough. Yeah, it was it was rough, it was a rough title ran, especially if you're if you're a fan of Drew, you're like, come on, like, come on, come on.

So he'll he'll have a great match against Jacob 2 at Mania this year. I think so.

All right. This next one is really fun. It it was the fatal four way match for the Intercontinental Championship. Oh, yes, Dominique Mysterio versus Braun Breaker versus. Finn Balor versus Pinta. This is probably one of the most interesting ones because this year, Dom is fighting Finn again, and they've already let it be spoiled. Hey Billy! Yeah. Man's just coming back. I wish they'd have kept it a surprise, but the demon is coming back. No. The demon is coming back. Put it on the card, Demon versus Dominic. It's like they have it on the card. It's right up the visual, everything.

Yeah. Yeah. Pinta, who was oh, we should we should mention. I didn't mention. I'm sorry. Brom Breaker walked in as the intercondinal champion. Dirty Dom walked out as your intercondinal champion.

It was a great match.

Um, so again, Dom is fighting uh the demon. Bron Breaker is not on the card. He suffered himself a real uh real bad injury, had to have hernia surgery, all the stuff. It was the beginning of the downfall of the vision. And yeah, uh, and Penta is your current Intercontinental Champion, and he will be involved in a six-man ladder match for said intercontinental championship. So a lot of great just waves, except for Braun. Braun got hurt, but I do I do think I hold I hold Caller down. It did it did halt some momentum, but I do think that Bron, a Braun Breaker surprise at WrestleMania will get a real good pop. And once he's inserted back into the pitcher, they're gonna uh uh like like Tripp says, we're gonna put the rocket on you and you're gonna go up.

Honestly, this is one of the matches where all of the competitors are all they were all like on the upward. Like they're they're they're shooting for the stop for the top. Even with Braun Breaker getting hurt, people are still clamoring, they want to see him, they're still talking about him. So people definitely not forgotten about Braun Breaker. Um, and like you said, Penta's champion now. Uh Dom and Finn are still at one of the major storylines on Raw being that the Finn is kicked out of judgment day now. So um, I mean, Dom's still the triple-A mega champion.

Absolutely, he's still got one belt. He was dirty two belts for a long time. Um beat lost it and beat Cena to get it when the return of Liv Morgan. So that was a fun little arc of the Intercontinental Championship belt. Uh, yeah, and Penta's now that guy, he's a fighting champion, so I think this is super interesting.

Bring us to see where they end up. Our next match, Randy Orton came on out and called uh for an open challenge, and he got I think he was TNA champion at the time. I couldn't go wrong, but we can't say his name, and he appears. I believe in Joe Hendry. Joe Hendry, everybody, he came on out. They had they had themselves a fun little match. Randy won. Uh, Joe Hendry, that brings us to this year. Joe Hendry, not on the main roster. He is an NXT, was the NXT champion, lost it, but I do believe that he will be one of the main call-ups for Raw after Mania. Joe Hendry's coming. I think that's the only reason he lost the title, the NXT championship. So they can go ahead and bring him up. And then Randy Orton has himself an interesting. It started off as just a just a one of the best things ever, and now it just sits in this weird, interesting bubble because it really feels more like Cody Rhodes versus Pat McAfee, and Orton's kind of there. And Pat McAfee is talking about CM Punk. It's like, what's happening? I I have some theories and some thoughts. We can do that on the actual weekly show when we when we run it down, but yeah, just some interesting stuff. But it is actually Randy Orton against Cody Rhodes. They are the main event for night one for the WWE undisputed title. McAfee will be in Orton's corner because Pat McAfee is the one who's awoken the Viper Randy Orton. So dumb.

And they wrote that on paper. Anyway, so we know what's going on with Randy Orton. Yeah, we know we know Randy Orton's journey. He's Randy Orton, he's not going anywhere, he's gonna stay up here. We know that. Joe Hendry is still up and coming. We will see him soon enough. Um, but it was a great pop. It was Randy Orton's, it was his 20th WrestleMania, and he went in just like open challenge. I don't know who's gonna fight me, but come hang out with me in my 20th WrestleMania. And he did. They had, like you said, they had a great match. Joe Hendry had his pop, he had his whole thing. Does a Joe Hendry pop turns and it's yeah, after he hit an RKO, after he hit him with an RKO, and then he does the whole thing. And yeah, it was it was great, it was a fun moment.

So it was a very fun moment. Yeah, I do like that.

So brings us to our next match. Uh, another interesting one. It was a straight up one-on-one match. It was Logan Paul versus AJ Styles. Logan Paul beat AJ Styles at WrestleMania this year. AJ Styles is retired. He retired after he's in the Hall of Fame this year. He is going to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Congratulations to AJ Styles, the phenomenal one. Thank you for uh giving it making us smile, making us laugh, making us think about some good wrestling. Uh, we look forward to you getting that ring. Um, and then Logan Paul has had a wonderful year uh in real life and uh in the ring, but he is a current tag team champion with Austin Theory. He and Austin Theory are what's left of the current vision, and they are taking on, they are gonna be tagging with iShow Speed, and they'll be fighting the Usos in LA Knight. So there we go. There we go. That brings us to a tag team match for the women's tag team championship. It was Lyra Valkyria and Becky Lynch versus the judgment day. Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, who were the champions at the time, they came in as champs. Lyra and Bailey walked out as champs. So this is kind of the next most interesting one on the list, especially because uh the journeys of Lyra Valkyria and Becky Lynch. What a what a difference a year makes. A lot can happen in a year, William. Uh Lyra and Becky had themselves a nice good fallen out. Uh Lyra found a friend in Bailey, and so now Lyra this year will be in that fatal four way we talked about for the women's tag team championships. Um Liv ended up winning this year's Royal Rumble, and she decided to fight Stephanie Vakir, so she's going to be fighting Stephanie Vakir for that championship. Becky Lynch went on a little bit of a journey. She ended up getting the women's intercontinental championship back, and then we had the return of one AJ Lee, and AJ Lee has been the thorn and the Becky Lynch Paw for a long time. AJ Lee is the current Intercontinental Champion, and Becky Lynch is gonna fight her uh at WrestleMania. Raquel Rodriguez, not on the card. No, unfortunate, they've given they've they've her her stock has risen. She's been trending upwards this whole time. She's been putting in work, but just this last few kind of matches, they've just she just hasn't come out on top, and she's just not on the card. I imagine she might. Well, I would say she would come out with with Liv, but Stephanie's been on her whole like, oh, you need a team and you need this, and blah blah blah. So Liv might tell Raquel to kick rocks and just hang back. So but Raquel and Roxy have to do something.

So that's what's going on there, and that brings us to the main event of WrestleMania of last year, and unless you're living again underneath a wrestling rock, then of course you know that crazy, crazy, crazy things happened. It was John Cena versus Cody Rhodes for the WWE undisputed belt. We had interesting things happen. Yeah. Just to say the least, uh Travis Scott showed up.

Cody were Cody Rhodes walked in as champ, and of course, Cena walked out as the 17 unseen champion. This year, Cody Rhodes will be main eventing, not night two, but night one. He's gonna be taking on Pat McAfee. Randy will be there. Uh, that will be for the WWE Undisputed Championship belt. John Cena ended up retiring, but due to low ticket sales and ratings and panic, they called him up, and he will now be your host for WrestleMania 42. Will one John Cena be? And uh, this is my hot take here. Uh Billy kind of knows this, but I'm gonna tell y'all. So if you if you go back and look at our recap, if you there's a certain certain little section of Raw where Dan Housen is talking to Adam Pierce, and he's like, hey, hey, hey, I would love to talk to John Cena. And Adam Pierce says, Well, you'll get plenty of time to talk to John Cena. I'm sure he would love to talk to you at WrestleMania. I think something's going to happen where Dan Housen's gonna try to curse Cena, and before he gets a chance, Cena's just gonna go, hey, why don't you just co-host WrestleMania with me? I think he's I think Dan Housen's gonna co-host WrestleMania.
