Welcome to The Ex Appeal Podcast. I'm your host, Miriam Katz. For this show I will interview every person I've ever been romantic with on any level, from a guy I went on a pizza date with in the 5th grade to an orthodox rabbi to a stripper I once hooked up with. Every. Single Person.

Miriam:

Hey, I'm Miriam Katz. This is my podcast, Ex Appeal. I am an actor and a writer in LA. I am a recovering art world person, now comedy person. And as one podcast guest said.

Chad:

You're like a high executive functioning hippie.

Miriam:

For this podcast, I'm gonna interview every person I've ever been romantic with on any level. From a guy I went on a pizza date with in the fifth grade to an Orthodox rabbi to a stripper I once hooked up with. Every single person. I've dated a lot, I have a lot of stories, and I wanted to go back for curiosity, for titillation, and possibly for closure. First up is Christopher. Christopher is a very sweet man. We dated right after he and his wife opened up their relationship for the first time. Have you ever dated a married man?

Christopher:

Hey, I'm beginning to explore an open relationship. Maybe Miriam could be a person I explore that with.

Miriam:

I wanted to focus on you and the feelings I had for you. And it's just so funny that I was like, yeah, I'm gonna commit to this married man.

Christopher:

I was just filled with fear.

Miriam:

Was it fear of losing your wife? It was.

Christopher:

It was just too much.

Miriam:

I felt like I got exactly what I wanted.

Christopher:

Really? Yeah. Oh man, that's so nice to hear.

Miriam:

Oh my god.

Christopher:

It was a good thing for my marriage.

Miriam:

Wow.

Christopher:

Yeah. And I am so grateful that I got to become closer to you. You were probably the best person I could have ever reached out to.

Miriam:

Then there's Mr. Mayhem. Mayhem and I loosely dated for six years, and there were some good times, but he was also kind of an asshole. Have you ever dated someone who's a dick?

Mr. Mayhem:

I was a f***ing disaster. I was really intoxicated.

Miriam:

I'm an asshole, and I'm not asking you to defend yourself.

Mr. Mayhem:

I'm not, and I'm not really defending myself. I'm just trying to explain being able to love somebody, but really not care at all what they thought of me.

Miriam:

And finally, there is Rob. Rob was a very kind, creative, sensitive man who had stage four colon cancer when I met him. And we had a really beautiful relationship. This one's pretty specific, but have you ever dated someone who was dying?

Rob:

Having sex now, you know, with the terminal illness, these are the last times I'm gonna try this sex thing out. So it's very intense. But I thought, oh shoot, I'm dying soon. And this relationship's taking up a lot of time. I got other stuff to do. I'm so attracted to this person that it feels like God's saying, here's one more chance to do better than you have in the past with someone that you care about.

Miriam:

I feel very, very honored and grateful that I get to spend time with you. And I'm so sad that you're not always going to be around. So if you could be around to help me when you die, that would be very, very helpful. That would be great. That would be really, really good. There's so much more. I feel so lucky to have had these conversations, and I cannot wait to track down more people. Honestly, so far I've had a surprising amount of closure. Oh, and Eric Greenside from Florida, who spent your summers living with your grandparents in Boston, who kissed me at a can't dance while stairway to heaven played. If you're out there, call me. Ex appeal is so real. You were open, you were closed. You were open, you were closed. Ex Appeal is so real.
