When the Child Becomes the Caregiver: Sarah's Story

In this deeply personal episode of Y'all Be Good, Heather and Ralf sit down with longtime client and friend Sarah I.—someone we've often joked is partly responsible for this podcast existing in the first place. Some of our earliest meaningful conversations happened in her chair, covering life, family, and the kinds of topics that really matter.
This week, Sarah shares the story of caring for her aging parents during the final years of their lives. As one parent battled dementia and the other struggled with declining health, Sarah found herself stepping into a role that so many adult children eventually face but few feel prepared for—that of caregiver.
Together, we discuss the emotional, physical, and mental toll that comes with caring for the people who once cared for you. From navigating doctor's appointments and difficult decisions to coping with grief and loss, Sarah opens up about both the challenges and the moments of love that defined this chapter of her life.
Now, after the passing of both parents, she's continuing the journey of healing while reflecting on the lessons, sacrifices, and memories that remain.
If you've cared for an aging parent, are currently walking that road, or know someone who is, this conversation will resonate deeply.
