Her modern mermaid journey started through Instagram, where she discovered that people could actually swim in mermaid tails outside of movies. This revelation led to purchasing her first Fin Folk tail as her 30th birthday gift, launching a transformative chapter in her life.

The Birth of Be a Mermaid Business

The Be a Mermaid business concept emerged during one of Cassandra's self-described "brain blaster" nights when her unmedicated ADHD kept her awake until 4 AM in a Brooklyn hotel. What started as a desire to create certifying retreats evolved into a comprehensive vision for a subscription-based platform with marketplace functionality. Her goal is helping professional mermaids and artists scale their efforts, applying her Fortune 100 client experience in strategy and growth to the mermaid community.

Building Community Through Safety and Inclusivity

Currently, Be a Mermaid offers retreats designed as small group, high-end experiences that combine vacation elements with mermaid certification, emphasizing safety above all else through proper PADI or SSI certification. The upcoming Professional Mermaid Database and All Access Subscription Pass will provide educational content for all skill levels, accessible regardless of location or water access. The mission centers on community inclusivity and fostering global connections while supporting artists and small businesses within the mermaid space.
