Hello and welcome back to Quiet English with Jackie. I am Jackie. Today before we begin, I want to share something small with you. This morning I was sitting in a favorite quiet place and enjoying a peaceful moment. You know the kind with no noise and no distractions. I love this time in the morning so I can read. Well I was sitting in my favorite quiet place, and I thought how easy it is to want to keep those quiet moments just for ourselves. Maybe you've felt that way too. Maybe you've had a moment or a place that you didn't want to share. And that brings us to our story. I will read part two of the selfish giant. Hope you will find it relaxing and a way for you to practice listening and understanding English. So after the giant chased the children away, the garden became very quiet. No laughter, no footsteps, no voices. Only silence. The giant looked around his garden. This is my garden, he said. I do not want anyone else here. So he built a wall. A high strong wall stone by stone. He closed himself inside. No one could enter. No one could see in. Let me ask you something. Have you ever done that? Not with a real wall, but in your heart. I think we do this sometimes. I know I have. When we feel tired or hurt or maybe overwhelmed, sometimes we pull away from others. We become quiet. We build our own little walls. But outside the garden, the children were still there. They wandered slowly down the road. They tried to play, but it was not the same. The road was hard and dusty, and there were no trees, no flowers, no soft grass. They stopped near the wall and looked through the small little openings in the stone. And they remembered. How happy we were there they said. Now imagine you are inside the garden. It should be spring. The sun should feel warm. The trees should be full of blossoms. But something is wrong. Spring came everywhere else. Birds were singing, flowers were opening, the air was soft and warm. But in the giant's garden the birds did not come. The trees did not bloom. The grass did not grow. Instead winter stayed. Snow covered the ground like a thick white blanket. Frost covered the trees, making them cold and silver. The north wind blew loudly, and the hail tapped sharply on the roof. The giant sat by his window and looked outside. I don't understand he said. The spring has come everywhere else, but it does not come here. And still he did not think about the children. Sometimes when life feels cold or quiet or lonely, the reason is closer than we think. In this case the garden was waiting, waiting for laughter, waiting for life, waiting for the children to return. Next time we will find out if the giant did anything to change the situation. What do you think? Before I go, I have a small request for you. If you are enjoying this story and others, I would love to hear from you. You can send me a short message called Fan Mail and tell me where are you listening from? And maybe one word to describe how this story makes you feel. In a future episode, I may share some of your messages. Next time we will find out what happens. What is the small thing that makes a difference? Until then, take care and God bless.
