Family is one of God's greatest gifts. As Filipinos, we deeply value honoring our parents, caring for our relatives, and making sacrifices for the people we love. These are beautiful values that should be preserved.

But what happens when love becomes guilt? When expectations become overwhelming? When saying "yes" to everyone begins to hurt your marriage, your children, your finances, or your walk with God?

In this episode of Rise Tayo, we have an honest conversation about one of the most difficult topics many Filipino families avoid—healthy family boundaries.

Together, we'll explore what the Bible says about honoring our parents while also protecting the family God has entrusted to us. We'll discuss common struggles many Filipinos face, including financial expectations, *utang na loob*, people-pleasing, unsolicited advice, and learning how to lovingly say "not right now" without guilt.

Using Scripture as our foundation, we'll walk through:

📖 **Genesis 2:24** — God's design for marriage and the biblical principle of "leave and cleave"

📖 **2 Corinthians 9:7** — Giving willingly, not under compulsion

📖 **Galatians 1:10** — Choosing God's approval over people-pleasing

📖 **Matthew 10:34–37** — When following Jesus requires putting Him above every earthly relationship

We'll also discuss practical ways to:

• Set healthy financial expectations before moving abroad

• Protect your marriage and children while continuing to honor your parents

• Respond graciously when family expectations become overwhelming

• Establish boundaries without bitterness, resentment, or disrespect

• Love your family faithfully while remaining obedient to Christ

Healthy boundaries are not walls that keep people out.

They are guardrails that protect the relationships God has given us.

Most importantly, we'll reflect on this important question:

"Am I honoring God in the way I love my family?"

Healthy boundaries aren't about loving your family less.

They're about loving them wisely, protecting the relationships God has entrusted to you, and putting Christ first in every area of your life.

I also close this episode with a prayer for wisdom, healing, stronger families, and the courage to love with both grace and truth.
