What does retirement really mean to you?
In this reflective solo episode of Voices in Scrubs, I explore how my definition of retirement and financial freedom has been evolving through conversations, podcasts, books, and personal reflection. For so many of us, especially in healthcare, we spend years chasing the idea of retirement without ever stopping to ask ourselves what we actually want life to look like when we get there.
What if retirement is not about escaping work, but about creating the freedom to live with purpose?
I talk about the importance of doing the deep inner work to define success for yourself instead of following society’s blueprint. We discuss why financial freedom is more than just money in the bank — it’s about building streams of income that allow you to cover your living expenses outside of your primary job, whether through real estate, business ventures, or other opportunities.
This episode also touches on something many people don’t talk about: why some individuals struggle emotionally after retirement. When work becomes our identity, stepping away from it can leave a void if we have never explored our true purpose outside of productivity.
If you’ve ever questioned the traditional path, wondered what fulfillment really looks like, or asked yourself, “If money wasn’t the issue, how would I spend my life?” — this conversation is for you.
