Different Gifts, One Mission How the APEST Hand Strengthens the Body

In Season 9, Episode 4 of the Take Off Podcast, Thomas Clark continues the conversation on APEST and the Collective with a practical picture for how apostolic, prophetic, evangelistic, shepherding, and teaching functions work together in the body of Christ.

This episode, Different Gifts, One Mission: How the APEST Hand Strengthens the Body, uses the hand metaphor to show that APEST is not about competing offices, titles, or personalities. It is about mutually necessary contributions that help the body mature and participate in the mission of God. 

A hand does not work because every finger is the same. A hand works because each finger contributes something different to a shared purpose. In the same way, APEST maturity is not when every voice sounds the same; it is when different voices learn to serve the same mission together. 

In this episode, Thomas walks through the five APEST functions using the picture of the hand: the thumb as apostolic, the index finger as prophetic, the middle finger as evangelistic, the ring finger as shepherding, and the pinky as teaching. Each function brings something needed, but no function is complete by itself. 

This episode challenges listeners to consider what happens when one function tries to become the whole hand, and why the body becomes healthier when every function stays submitted to Christ and connected to one another.
