Have you ever felt like you’re putting in the work… but not seeing the results yet?

Maybe you’re trying to grow as a leader.
Trying to build a stronger team.
Trying to improve communication, delegation, or team accountability.

And after a few days… or even a few weeks… it feels like nothing is changing.

This is where most leaders start to question themselves.

Is this working?
Am I doing the right things?
Should I just go back to what’s easier?

But here’s the truth… you can’t hurry results.

In this episode, Desiree shares a simple but powerful reminder using a real-life story from teaching a group fitness class. Just like building strength physically, leadership development doesn’t show up overnight.

In fact, the work often feels hardest right before the results start to show.

Whether you're a new manager trying to build confidence, or an experienced leader working on team dynamics, this episode will help you stay consistent even when the results feel slow.

Because leadership isn’t about quick wins.
It’s about doing the work long enough to see the impact.

By the time you finish listening, you’ll learn:

  •  Why leadership development and team growth don’t show immediate results
  •  How to stay consistent when leading feels hard or unclear
  •  What it really takes to build stronger teams and long-term leadership success

Hey, friend, welcome back to your weekly leadership tip from Desiree. One small idea to carry with you into your life and leadership this week. And the tip this week is that you can't hurry love or results. Now, if you haven't been listening for a long time or maybe I don't even mention it all that often, but a huge part of my life is teaching group fitness. I've been teaching for eight years now since before my daughter was born. I've taught Zumba and combat and body pump.

I've taught cardio classes and weightlifting classes, you name it. I've pretty much taught it all. And I currently teach a group called Power Strength on Saturday mornings. Now, every once in a while on a Monday, I will teach a group for another instructor. And I was teaching this morning. There's a lot of backstory, by the way. You didn't really need to know any of that. But the the lesson in this comes we were about halfway through the workout today and just life and travel and sickness and craziness. I had not worked out for about

a week. I had walked and such, but I hadn't lifted. It was feeling really hard. And I could see that some of the ladies were feeling it too. I always say, you know, go a little bit heavier. See what your body can handle. You just never know unless you try. And we were in the middle of lunges and I just thought, on Thursday, you're going to thank me for this. On Thursday, you are going to feel so strong and you're going to be so proud of yourself for pushing through today. Just for some context, it's Monday.

And so I thought about it for a little while and I'm like, I wonder if they think I'm just nuts and that I meant to say tomorrow. But here's the thing. I didn't mean to say tomorrow. said tomorrow and even Wednesday, you might be a little sore. You might actually curse me for this moment. You might feel like, why did I do that? Why did I put in all of the work to that? Why did I go heavier than I thought I could? Why did I push myself harder?

than I thought I could in the moment. It wasn't worth it. But it isn't always the next day. Actually, it's rarely the next day. It's rarely even a couple days later. And depending on what we're talking about, you know, it could be years, months, whatever. When it comes to weightlifting, it's probably going to be a couple of days that you're going to be sore, that you're going to question your existence a little bit. But on that fourth day,

Desiree (02:27.818)
You are going to notice yourself feeling stronger. You are going to notice the fruits of that labor. You are going to feel the results. And if we bring this into a leadership context, a parenting context, whatever that looks like, it's often going to feel really hard in the moment. You're going to start to question things after a couple of days or weeks, months, maybe even years. Why am I putting so much effort into this thing? Why am I working so hard when I just don't see the results that I think I should be seeing?

You can't hurry it. You can't hurry the results. And you have no idea how good things are right now based on how they could have been if you want to put in the work, if you want to read the books or listen to the podcasts. I'm going to switch into a parenting mode here and tell you one of my favorite quotes from John Acuff, my favorite author, is this. If you want a child to be kind, teach them kindness and give them 10 years to practice.

If you want a child to be kind, teach them kindness and give them 10 years to practice. In other words, we are constantly looking to be better at things. are we don't like to be beginners. We don't like things to be hard. We don't like for struggle to find us and to not know how to get through it. But we are just like a kid. If we want something, we have to learn it and then practice it. If we want to be stronger, we have to do the work.

and allow our body to find the results. In leadership, we have to learn the lessons, we have to practice the lessons, then we get to see some of the fruits of that labor, and then we get to pass that knowledge on. So the tip for you as you enter into this week is that you can't hurry results. You have to put in the work now. You have to know with every fiber of your being that the work that you're putting in, even if it's hard right now, even if it feels like it's not worth it.

It's worth it. I promise you.

So whatever feels hard today, just remember that it takes a little bit of time. It takes some patience and you have to do the work. It might be easier. It's easier to do the...

So I hope today's lesson, this week's lesson has inspired you to make sure that you're doing the hard things, putting in the work, because the results will follow. I promise you just don't stop. And I will see you back here next week for another tip on life and leadership.
