{Episode 32} The Skirt That Carried a Shadow

Ever Gray Season 1

Send us a text

On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, this story was written to honor the teachings and strength carried in ribbon skirts. The Skirt That Carried a Shadow is a haunting yet hopeful tale about Ren, a Métis girl who learns that a ribbon skirt passed down from her kokum carries more than fabric—it carries memory.

When the silver ribbon stitched into the hem turns black, Ren begins to dream of a girl who never had the chance to dance. Guided by her Kokum’s wisdom and the steady heartbeat of the drum, Ren discovers that to wear the skirt is to carry history, shadow, and promise.

Red for fire.
Blue for water.
Yellow for the sun.
And silver for the shadow that still needed to dance.

This story is about more than pride. It is about carrying care, responsibility, and the voices of those who could not finish their song. It honors the strength of traditions, the voices of those gone too soon, and the truth that we never walk alone in the circle.

Because every shadow has a story.
