We know how important it is to make sure everything is put away, buttoned down, and closed up as we get ready to depart on another sojourn. No matter whether it's leaving from our home base or departing the campground. It's important to pay attention.
In this episode I speak to paying attention to the little things that might get overlooked. I tie it to our spiritual life as we also must pay attention to the little things around us and within us.

Hello fellow Sojourners. I’m your host Dave Laton and welcome to Travel With A Purpose, a podcast designed to keep Sojourners and friends informed, entertained, and inspired.
Today’s episode is called “The Little Things to Check.” Because sometimes the difference between a smooth travel day and a stressful one comes down to the smallest details.
If you’ve spent much time around RVs, you know there are always things to check before pulling out. Not the big obvious ones. Those we usually remember. It’s the little things.
Is the antenna down?
Are the steps up?
Did you latch the cabinets
Is the TV secured?
Did you disconnect the water hose?
Are the stabilizers raised?
Are the compartment doors locked?
Is the refrigerator latched?
Is the power cord stored?
Man, I think I need a nap after all of that.
If we forget one of these small things, it may not ruin our trip, but it can sure complicate it.
A cabinet flying open in a turn…
A forgotten hose still attached to the campground faucet…
A step left out as you pull away…
Small things. But they matter.
Experienced Sojourners know that good trips start with careful attention to the little details.
It’s interesting that life works the same way. Most of the time it isn’t the big decisions that derail us. It’s the little things we stop paying attention to.
A little neglect in a relationship.
A little impatience in our words.
A little compromise in our integrity.
A little distance in our walk with God.
Those things seem small at first. But over time they can create problems far bigger than we ever intended.
You are probably very familiar with Luke 16:10
“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.”
I know this verse speaks to the gifts God has graced us with. But the principle is still there.
We must pay attention to the little things, as well as the big things. If we neglect the little things, the big things will not happen.
We know the value of a checklist that helps us remember the little things. It is a wise Sojourner that uses checklists. In the same way, perhaps we need a spiritual checklist.
Before we launch into our day, it’s worth asking a few small questions.
Have I taken a moment to pray?
Have I opened God’s word today?
Have I spoken kindly to the people around me?
Am I carrying worry instead of trusting God?
Have I thanked the Lord for the blessings I often overlook?
These may seem like small things.
But they keep the journey steady.
One of the beautiful things about life on the road is that it reminds us what really matters. When space is limited, we learn to travel lighter. We discover we don’t need quite as much as we once thought.
And the same is true spiritually.
When we keep our hearts checked and aligned with God, we travel lighter emotionally too.
Less resentment.
Less worry.
Less frustration.
More peace.
More gratitude.
More hope.
So the next time you're preparing to pull out of a campsite, take a moment to appreciate the simple discipline of checking the little things. Because that same habit can guide the rest of your life. Pay attention to the small things. Guard your heart. Stay close to God.
And enjoy the journey.
