This could be the real deal, boys. Let's do it.
SPEAKER_00Welcome. Welcome back to the Reggie and Jerome podcast, the post-free agency draft recap edition. We were going for a little bit. It's good to be back, boys. What's happening to my left as always? Sammy C, what's up?
SPEAKER_04What's going on, everybody?
SPEAKER_00You know what it is. To my right, Big J A. What's happening, my man?
SPEAKER_05Back in the building. What's going on?
SPEAKER_00Guys, how y'all been, man? It's been a minute since we've been together. How y'all been?
SPEAKER_05Good, man. Life is good. Another day above ground is always a great day.
SPEAKER_00Got that right. Sammy C, how you been, my man?
SPEAKER_04Same thing, man. Living life at the fullest. Miss the birds? Absolutely, I missed the birds.
SPEAKER_00It's crazy, right?
SPEAKER_05If only they could play all year round.
SPEAKER_00I know, right? It's weird. You guys are listening to this during. I think it's safe to say this is the one of the craziest weeks in Philadelphia sports history. I mean, this eight, the well, this nine-day span of the Phillies firing a manager, playing terrible, and firing a manager, the Flyers who had a what percent chance?
SPEAKER_053% chance.
SPEAKER_00I'm making the playoffs, make the playoffs, then make a run in the playoffs to get to the second round. The Eagles basically waving the quote unquote white flag on probably their best wide receiver ever by drafting a wide receiver. I don't think any of us thought that going into the draft.
SPEAKER_05Did not see that.
SPEAKER_00Didn't see it, didn't see it coming. And to top it off. The Sixers? The processed Sixers.
SPEAKER_04Forcing game seven.
SPEAKER_00Forcing a game seven. This has been a crazy, crazy week. Um, but if you guys know us, we love this shit.
SPEAKER_05Love every minute of it. Yeah, I'm not sure. Wouldn't want to be a sports fan of anywhere else.
SPEAKER_00You got that right, bro. I I saw so many, um, I saw so many posts from people in Pittsburgh earlier in the week when they were talking crazy about us and the So Crazy.
SPEAKER_05I was on Twitter during draft night, uh, first round, and I saw a tweet from a guy and he was a Pittsburgh fan. He said, This is it. Makai Lemon, pick 20, whatever they had. Let's go. We move up, draft them. His very next tweet. I hate the fucking city of Philadelphia. They're ruining my life this week.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because we were playing the penguins, too.
SPEAKER_05And we were up three, we were up three games to one at that point.
SPEAKER_00Oh my gosh. Yeah. So, but uh, like you said, Joey, couldn't imagine being a fan of anybody else. So, guys, let's get started. We got a ton to unpack. But as we always do, we need to start by taking a shot. It's been a minute, guys.
SPEAKER_02Go birds. Go birds.
SPEAKER_00So, uh, like uh Joey said, uh, we just got finished the draft. Um, before we get into uh draft business, we have to talk about the other offseason stuff that happened, uh moves, signings, uh just a bunch of things that happened um before the draft with the birds. So uh Samuel, I want to start with you. Um the departures that we had. Why don't you talk about them? We'll we'll talk about what do you think, or what do we think is the most significant one. Then um Joey'll go on to the signings and then I'll go into like the re-signings. So uh I got you. Start with you, Sam.
SPEAKER_04All right. Well, uh, our first departure was um Jalen Phillips. Uh he went to the Panthers on a four-year $120 million.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's correct.
SPEAKER_04Uh he left in the first wave of the free agency. Uh he but he got a high value contract, man. Panthers paid him, and you know, it's all she wrote for him. Absolutely. Uh our next departure was uh one of the the people that we were always talking about. Um We spent a lot of time talking about it. Yeah, a lot a lot of time. On we would like to keep him, but we don't see it happening, and you know that that is uh N'Kobe Dean. Uh he went to the Raiders on a three-year deal. Um, you know, he listen, he got paid too, but we can't keep everybody. Absolutely. It sucks, but nothing but love for N'Cobe. Absolutely. Oh, absolutely.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, absolutely.
SPEAKER_04And uh the next one was uh Reed Blanketship signed a three-year deal also with the Texans. Um had to split up the exciting whites and no more of that, but I think we we drafted somebody in the draft to kind of make up for him. So we'll talk about that later. We'll talk about that. Um Jahan Dodson.
SPEAKER_00One of Sammy's favorites.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, one of my favorites.
SPEAKER_03Missing 500 yards. Yeah. We we wanted to definitely have 500 yards so bad. So bad.
SPEAKER_04I got I got a new guy this year, though.
SPEAKER_02Okay, all right, okay.
SPEAKER_04Uh signed a two-year deal with Atlanta. Um I think he's he's gonna be pretty decent for Atlanta. Got the speedster in Atlanta.
SPEAKER_00That's a good signing for them, I think.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I agree.
SPEAKER_05Um Who's throwing the ball over there?
SPEAKER_04It's either Michael Penix or Tua. Tua.
SPEAKER_05Tua turned the ball over.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. I seen something. It was uh it was a pitcher on Twitter, and it was Michael Penix with uh both ACLs torn with on his crutches. Oh my god. And then Tua laying on the field, knocked out, throwing up gangs. They said I don't know who's gonna throw the ball at Atlanta this year. Terrible. The damn internet. Yeah. Our next one um was Matt Pryor, offensive lineman. Uh he departed. Um I don't think he signed with anybody.
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_04See ya. Yeah. Yeah. We I I think we all kind of figured that was gonna happen. Yeah, yeah. Um, and you know, one of the people that Nelson absolutely couldn't stand, or none of us could have stand at the beginning of last year was Adory Jackson.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_04He is uh he's out of here. And I think he's uh I think he's gonna put the cleats up. I don't think anybody's gonna sign him.
SPEAKER_00No, I think it might be done for him. Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. That's what I think. I mean, unless you know a team needs a veteran corner or you know, just to have a veteran in the in the locker room on the defensive side, maybe. But for right now, I think.
SPEAKER_00But yeah, that's about it. So, um uh of the departures, uh since Sammy, since you read out, I'll start with you, Joey. Uh I I think uh I have an idea where we're gonna go with this uh which which one's the biggest departure out of that list?
SPEAKER_05The guy that was the smartest man on the field is N'Kobe Dean. Yeah. Yeah. It's always tough losing a caliber player like that, but uh, you know, when you got a young gun behind him who did a really good job until Noby N'Cobe came back, you know, you gotta give him in his time to shine. And we talked about it a lot. Little breaking news. Okay. This isn't evils related, but since we are the sports fans of the city of Philadelphia, Jason Tatum ruled out for game seven.
SPEAKER_00Had a feeling because let me tell you, if that boy tore his Achilles after anything happened again, like what do you say? Was his calf or his knee?
SPEAKER_05Left leg. It's just his left leg.
SPEAKER_00It's his calf, because he was rubbing his calf. So if he if he tore his Achilles and his other leg with a weak calf, because that's what happens.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, you force all that weight on the other half. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Celtics would never live that shit down. So uh Wow. Breaking that's some breaking through tonight. Wow, yeah. Um, if you guys don't know, we're doing this Saturday uh afternoon slash evening before game seven and game one of the Flyers and the Sixers. Uh so the fact that we are able to concentrate on the Eagles is we are professionals over here. Because trust me, we're all thinking about these games tonight.
SPEAKER_01But go ahead.
SPEAKER_04Hell yeah, Jason T.
SPEAKER_05Go check this, Danny. It's gonna be a good one.
SPEAKER_03No, that he's out. That's what I'm saying. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's all it's gonna be. All right, let's get back to the game. Let's go. Let's keep going.
SPEAKER_05N'Koby, man. I mean, great player. Uh definitely wanted to keep him around if we could, but obviously we knew what we had waiting, and you are you weren't gonna move on from Zach Bond. He's he's just lights out on the other side. Um but I'm excited to see what Jaha Campbell's gonna do with a full season as starter. Uh I am I am excited for that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so it's not like they let him walk.
SPEAKER_05And there's a big empty hole there. Yeah, that is just it makes you feel a little bit more comfortable for sure.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and I think I mean to add on to that, you got um Jeremiah Trider Jr. also behind them, uh meaning uh Bond and um Campbell. But then we'll get into the who we picked up, because we did pick up uh I think a stud that was a sleeper, but we picked him up after the draft. So we'll get onto that uh later on.
SPEAKER_05You know how he knows how to find them.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, but I mean I would have to agree it would be Nicobe Dean. I mean, you know, yeah, Jalen Phillips, he came in last year, uh, what, midseason because of the trade. Um but the thing is, you know, they make edge rushers every day. And uh there was a ton of them that came out of the draft this year. But we'll we'll get to what these are. Yeah, the other stuff later. But yeah, I'd have to agree. N'Kobe Dean.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Um I'm not even gonna regurgitate. Obviously, we all I I think it's pretty safe to say that as far as as as much as we've watched the birds over, I don't know, the past decade, he was one of our favorite Eagles.
SPEAKER_04Absolutely. Yeah, um and he only got better and better. Like, even though he fought with injuries, I mean you just see it last year. Like the way that he could play that linebacker position, like Joey said, the smartest player on the field. But man, when he came to that blitz, he just knew how to just drive his legs and get to the QB.
SPEAKER_00Something you said, uh, which is absolutely correct. And I didn't see it uh his first year. Um I I don't even know if I saw it his second year. It's the fact that he got better every year. And by the, you know, by last year, he was just rock solid, like like you said, smartest guy on the field. So Nicobe, I wish you luck. Glad you're not in the NFC. Amen to that. Good good good luck, uh, you know, in that black hockey puck in Las Vegas. And uh I I I know you'll do well, but you know, I I think we'll be able to uh I don't know if you can replace a guy like that, but if the guy we drafted last year does replace him, great job by Howie if he does, because pretty big shoes of field uh replacing the Kobe D.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely.
SPEAKER_00We move on to our signings. Uh Joey, this is on you, bro.
SPEAKER_05All right. So our first one, which we have listed here was Marquise Hollywood Brown. Why would she re agree to a one-year deal worth up to six and a half million? Uh interesting one.
SPEAKER_02Uh I didn't think he was going to land in our lap, but if he's if he stays healthy, he's gonna be real dangerous in the slot.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_05And this one, this next one is probably my favorite.
SPEAKER_00We might as well talk about this now. Hell yeah. I think we all I think we all think this is the biggest one, right? I would say for sure. Yeah. So we might as well talk about that.
SPEAKER_05I think my favorite. Tariq Woolen. Tariq Woolen, cornerback, one-year deal up to $15 million. Uh how do they let us do it? I don't know. Unless people are seeing something that's written on a wall that how we didn't see, but he was the number one cornerback in man coverage last year. And the number two guy is our guy, Q.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_05How you let that how you let that duo get together, I don't know, but I'm really excited for it. Shit. Fuck the duo. Trio, yeah. Yeah, yeah. I mean, yeah. Can't forget about the gene.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. And I mean, for Tyreek, when he um or Tariq, I'm sorry. When he had his first interview, like in front of everybody, that shit had me dying. Like, if you look back and you watch it, he's like, I don't know where they're gonna throw the ball to. I mean, but he has a point.
SPEAKER_05Like I will say, not to cut you off, my bad. Now you good. Cooper Dezine's gonna have to do a whole lot of calming them boys down because them boys, they love to yap. They're both of them.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I mean, that's what that's what Reed Blackish was so good at. So I don't know. Because there were times when Cooper was a little yappy too. So I don't know who back there gonna calm them boys down.
SPEAKER_05Fuck it. I love it. And then you add Makuba into the mix again. Yeah. Yeah, I'm excited. I'm excited, you know, he he got hurt and didn't come back.
SPEAKER_04But yeah, I mean, Woolen, I mean, I think it was a great, great signing. I mean, because we always like last year, we had that that part in that cornerback three position that we just you know, it was a Dory Jackson, and then it was like who we put in if a Dory goes down, because you know, he got you know poked last year and he was I hurt myself, you know.
SPEAKER_00And it started we we started talking about that game one. You know, we we we we talked about it all year.
SPEAKER_04We did, and then you know, when we were like, oh yeah, we got Jair Alexander, and he'd even put the cleats on for us. So that went out the door. It was like we always like we're trying to find that cornerback three position to play the outside, other than Quinyon Mitchell.
SPEAKER_05And I think it's gonna give Vic Fangie a lot more comfortability. He knew he he had to cater to Adore Jackson and he, you know, kept them a few steps behind, but now that you got the you got this guy who can pretty much dominate man to man, I think Vic Fangier's gonna be able to do a lot of more different things with this defense.
SPEAKER_00Oh, oh God, yeah. I mean the there's like a three-second rule, and you have to roll coverage over to the guy if you don't think he can cover for three seconds. And there were plenty of times that third corner was not covering for two, much less for three, and that just opens your defense up so much more, and uh we'll talk about one of those weights on a help the defensive line a little later. But um, yeah, so uh I'm excited to see Tariq Woolen. You you you paid him like the even for one year, you paid him like a top 10 corner for one year? $15 million is a lot for one year. So I don't know where it's going after that. Like, are we doing this to give him an extension? I'm not sure. It could be, it could be a like a try meet try and see. I don't know.
SPEAKER_05And Howie's brain is the only one to where it makes sense.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I don't know, but for this year, I'm excited about it. So we shall see. So finish acquisitions, Joey.
SPEAKER_05Uh these next two, I apologize not that these guys really matter.
SPEAKER_00No, I ain't gonna say it don't matter. The parents might be listening. These guys matter. I'm I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_05These next these next two guys, I'm gonna just apologize now if you're listening. I'm sorry if I butchered your name.
SPEAKER_00Joe Tryon.
SPEAKER_05Joe Tryon Shoyenka.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, just say Joe Tryon.
SPEAKER_05Uh Edge Guy. Who? And then Arnold Ibikite.
SPEAKER_04There you go.
SPEAKER_05Signed the one.
SPEAKER_04Ibikite came from where? Buccaneers? Uh I I I was told there'd be no questions. I think so. I know. I'm sorry, I don't even know where these two came from. Uh I think one came from the Browns. But I could be wrong.
SPEAKER_00Uh you might be right. I think Trion might have came from the Browns. We'll we'll we'll get our stats and information. I think.
SPEAKER_04Uh, yeah, I don't even know how to say his name. I mean, we can find out because we can edit this and just look it up real quick.
SPEAKER_00Sure.
SPEAKER_05Ivite signed a one-year deal up to seven seven point three million. Um I'm not mistaken, he's probably gonna be more of an edge guy.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_05Um which we've we need we realized last year we needed depth there for sure. Yeah, absolutely. Couldn't rely on 47-year-old uh Brandon Graham. Love BG, but uh and that means we signed Jonathan Jones, cornerback, to a one-year deal. That is a locker room signing.
SPEAKER_00That's what that is. I don't know how much he's gonna see the field. And when he was So you need those guys too. When he was uh in his prime, one of the best corners in the league. That's a long time ago. But if he can teach these guys anything on the back end balls that they can learn, great signing.
SPEAKER_04Hell yeah, but I no, not the when we signed him, I was like, damn, we got the the prime Jonathan Jones. I was like, nah, he's he's up there in age. But one hell of a player back in his prime, man.
SPEAKER_05Sure was, yeah, man. Uh then this one was a little bit interesting. Uh Damian Pierce to a one-year contract. Uh running back. It definitely, I was like, made me scratch my head a little bit. You got Saquon, you got Tank Bigsby. Um, but I think we've seen enough of Will Shipley. I don't think it's for that. But but we always do this. This is might be this the guy who dresses and sits on the sideline every week. Okay. AJ Dillon, uh, who was the one before that from Seattle.
SPEAKER_04Oh, Rashad Penny. Rashad Penny, yeah. I think I think Damian Pierce, I think he's actually coming in to be a kick returner though. Or a punt returner.
SPEAKER_05Which we needed a little bit of help with that last year. We did. Because there was too many times I was pulling my hair out asking what the hell was going on back there.
SPEAKER_04My favorite signing of them all, right here, baby. They're trade.
SPEAKER_05We acquired Andy Dalton from the Panthers for a 2027 seven.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I swear. When you said that, I looked, I was like, who could he possibly be? But go ahead. You fucked me up with that one.
SPEAKER_05Okay. Um, I think we probably know who our quarterback two is.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think so. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Um I don't know if Howie tries to move uh McKee. Tanner McKee.
SPEAKER_04I think so. Especially because we drafted one. You drafted one too, yeah. I think so.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_05And then we uh we rounded off our acquisitions with Chandler Martin, a linebacker signed a two-year deal.
SPEAKER_04You're also missing one more person. Okay. Which we're gonna add him. Uh the Tavion Wicks from Green Bay.
SPEAKER_05Oh. That's right. Yes. Oh, and and one more uh Grenard. Do we trade to four in the debt?
SPEAKER_00We'll talk about that him later. But you're right. We'll talk about him when we get the draft.
SPEAKER_05The Tavion Wicks.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we forgot about the Tavion Wicks.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_05He's gonna be We got a crowded wide receiver right now. Yeah, you ain't lying. Being that AJ Brown is still technically a fit in Eagle.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we're gonna get to that later, too. But uh yeah, you're right. Um I what do you does anybody know what Wicks signed for?
SPEAKER_04If I'm not mistaken, it was He signed an extension as soon as he uh no.
SPEAKER_00Uh pretty hefty um price tag, I believe. Uh I mean for like a one-year deal. I think it was pretty pr pretty hefty. I know it was in the double digits. I that I do know. It might have been like 13 or 14.
SPEAKER_05That's a Charmanian guy, right?
SPEAKER_00He was over there and makes a makes a ton of sense for them to go out and get somebody who knows his offense. Uh I'm glad you brought that up. I don't know why that wasn't on the list.
SPEAKER_05Uh traded from Green Bay to Eagles.
SPEAKER_00One year 12.5. 12.5? Yeah. It's a one-year deal, well, extension for 12.5 is included a nine million guarantee.
SPEAKER_04With a total potential value of 16.1 million over two years, 2026-2027. Uh the contract includes four void years for salary cap management. They go them void years. Yep.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so I I I think I I I did watch some tape on Mr. Wicks. Plus, we saw him play the Eagles several times. Uh I think that. I think that if he can be uh the wide receiver two that we need him to be, he don't have to stretch the field. He just gotta go up and get the ball like a like a big receiver can. Uh I think it's a good signing. But this happened pretty quick, which means Sean Mannion must know something. Either he wasn't given the opportunity that he should have been given in Green Bay because of other signings, because let's be honest with you. Let's be honest, if a guy gets signed, the the coordinator, the quarterback coach, those guys, they don't really have the autonomy to say that get this guy playing time. And he's like, I'm giving this guy $20 million, like, you gotta let him play. And if he thought he was better than him, and then they bench a guy that was in front of him, like he's either gonna get fired or some shit's gonna happen. So he he may know something about Mr. Wicks that we don't know. So I'm interested to see how this plays out for him. I mean, we we did draft another wide receiver as well, and like Joey said, we still have somebody we got to talk about later on in the pod that's still on the team. So we we shall we shall see. Uh, but I'm excited to see what's up with uh Mr. Wicks. On to me about re-signings and extensions. Um I'll make a caveat on this one because there's one thing we didn't uh we haven't talked about, that's not on the list. Uh Jalen Carter got his fifth-year option picked up. Nolan Smith as well. There is no way those guys are going into the season on a fifth-year option.
SPEAKER_04They will both they'll both sit out.
SPEAKER_00No. Or well they'll be signed.
SPEAKER_05Oh.
SPEAKER_00They'll sign extensions.
SPEAKER_05Really? They're gonna do Jordan Davis and Jane Carter same year.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I don't think I don't think there's any way. Maybe Nolan Smith might, but I don't think they uh he's not ha ha how he's done this before.
SPEAKER_05I think right now we had like 28 million in cap space right now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I just don't think there's any way. They have to give him the money now. They just have to. Because like we talked about that bill is due s really, really soon.
SPEAKER_04Next year, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So they have to give him they have to give him like a huge guarantee now. Because if you don't, if they don't, he's not coming back. Just can't do it. So I I just I I think that I think that some of this will be cleaned up post June 1. But I I just don't think there's any way he plays on a on a 50 year Nolan Smith might not have no choice. Yeah, I think they're waiting for Yeah, I think they're waiting for some things that'll happen. Um but uh anyway, um we signed Jordan Davis to a three-year extension. Uh we all wondered whether he would be back. And two years ago, I think it might have been up in the air, but after the past two years, he earned every bit of that extension.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely.
SPEAKER_00Um we uh we re-signed and gave an extension to both our tight ends, which now I'm not really sure how that's gonna work out. You don't draft the guy in the second round. We'll get to that later. But we don't draft the guy in the second round. You don't carry three tight ends on your team. Nobody carries three tight ends on your team.
SPEAKER_03Dog.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we'll we'll discuss about it. So that's that, and that's uh, you know, Grant Calcutta and uh, you know, fan favorite Dallas Goddard.
SPEAKER_04Favorite re-signing right here.
SPEAKER_00Damn, that boy stole my thunder. My favorite re-signing right here, probably the Eagles' best player, Brandon Mann, signed a four-year contract. I don't have the details, but he signed a four-year contract, and uh I I I we talk about it all the time on the pod. Like, there were times like if they didn't have him, we probably would have lost some games if we ain't had Brady Man.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Brady Braden Mann, he was it, uh what was it, week week three we had a victory, and it was partly because he had 250 yards of hunting.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I mean we talked about it earlier with uh with returns. I think sometimes teams don't value that third part of the game, and uh that part they value, but like you said, I I wish that they would value the return game a little bit more, and and maybe they will they will.
SPEAKER_05So uh interesting little tidbit about the punter position. I don't know if you guys saw they invited uh David Akers' son to camp, and he is a punter.
SPEAKER_02Nah, for real. I didn't see that.
SPEAKER_04Wow. I think his name is Cam Akers.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I think so, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Really? Okay.
SPEAKER_00Well, hopefully, you know, it works out for you, big boy. We'll see what happens. But uh big shoes to fill. I know, right? Um I saw Trot's other son get drafted. I was like, damn, we couldn't wait for him. That boy Yeah, he's good. That boy.
SPEAKER_01I mean, don't get me wrong, you know. You know, Jay Trot Jr. is he he got a chance to be a good ball player, but when I when I look at the tape, his his brother's better than him.
SPEAKER_05I was like, well. Ain't that always how it always happens? It's never the son that's named after you.
SPEAKER_00Oh no. Uh-uh. Never. It's always it's always the other one. Yeah. But good for him. He can make a name for himself. He don't have to.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely. He doesn't have to live in the shadows or he'll probably still wear 54.
SPEAKER_00But you don't, you know, make make your own name, you know what I mean? So yeah. Uh we shall see. So I think we're all in agreement that the biggest one of those is Jordan Davis, right?
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. My second favorite, yeah, which you haven't got to yet. So uh I'll let you get to it and then we'll talk about it.
SPEAKER_02No, say it now.
SPEAKER_05Fred Johnson.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Talk about it.
SPEAKER_05Um, he came in last year and did one hell of a job filling in for Lane Johnson. That's already big shoes to fill um in a year where we did not have great offensive line play. The last thing you could afford was a guy who had to fill in for Lane Johnson for multiple weeks and just get blown off the ball. And Fred stepped in and he did a hell of a job. So excited to keep him around. And he could play pretty much every position except center. So excited. You know, it's a great depth to have.
SPEAKER_00Fred's a guy that when you have him on the field, you're never like closing your eyes and think he's gonna just like murder. Like, yeah, he's gonna give up some players.
SPEAKER_05Oh, he was just awful every time they ran him out. I can't remember his name.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm glad I know what you're talking about because every time he came in, we all went, we all sighed. What was his name? Oh my God. Matt Pryor was definitely one. I can't remember his name, but we'll we'll get to it.
SPEAKER_04He played the right side, didn't he?
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_04Right next to Fred Johnson.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And every time he came, he was like, oh my God. But Fred Johnson, when he came in the game, he was like, all right, we got a chance. You know, yeah, he might get beat once, but he wasn't a turnstile, so I agree. Uh the last um re-signing was uh Marcus Epps.
SPEAKER_02Now how can I put this?
SPEAKER_00I I think I think Marcus has the ability to be a really, really good player. Brett Toth. Brett Toth. There you go. Um I gotta take a drink for that. Brett Toast. Brett Toath. Yeah, you're right. Um Brett Toast. Brett Toast, you're right. Yeah. Um but yeah, as far as Marcus Epps is concerned, I I I think he's a good backup safety. I just don't think he can be a starting safety.
SPEAKER_04Nah, I don't think how he's done yet either.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because I I I don't think so either. Because I think the next wave of signings will be coming right after rookie camp.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, right after rookie camp, and everybody looks around their team and like, oh shit, you can't play. Let me get on the phone real quick. Who's out there? Yeah, who's out there? Yeah.
SPEAKER_05So no, I agree with you. Uh he did a serviceable job stepping in from Makuba last year.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, absolutely.
SPEAKER_05Veteran guy.
SPEAKER_00Veteran guy. Um I I I think that he knows the defense. And uh, if he can pass on anything to some of the people that we have coming in, it's great, but he might be able to get a spot start here and there.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, if his number's called, just keep the keep the shell, keep the umbrella open up there.
SPEAKER_00Yes, yeah you're absolutely right. Um so yeah, that was our uh that was our free agency slash pre-draft before re-signings. And um I think that when that went on, we kind of I don't even think we I don't even think we knew, still knew what they were gonna do in the draft at that point, but they did fill some holes, pause. They did fill a few, and um, you know, it's good to do that at the same time. Damn, why am I saying that? Um but my bad. And they did, and I and I think that moving towards the draft, they had a plan. We didn't know what that plan was. Uh, but I think I think we fit find we found out uh fairly quickly uh once uh was it last Thursday or Thursday before that? Yeah once that once that happened, we we found out pretty quick. So uh we're gonna take a short break and uh we'll be right back to talk about the draft.
SPEAKER_04I'd like to take a minute and interrupt the Reggie and Jerome podcast and welcome our new podcast, The Mound Visit, your unofficial trip to the mound for all things Philadelphia Phillies. We're stepping off the rubber, kicking some dirt, and breaking down everything from Broad Street bombs to citizens bank drama. Whether you've been riding with the Phil since the vet or just hopped on the red October train, grab your glove, grab your rally towel, and settle in. This is the mound visit where every episode brings the heat.
SPEAKER_00And we're back. Fellas, we discussed the off-season, uh pre-draft moves, and now we're gonna talk about the draft itself. Uh, like we mentioned earlier, we we all had a you know opinions on what we thought might happen, what should happen. If you listen to the uh the season wrap-up of the Regin Drone podcast, you can go back and listen to what we thought. Uh, I will say that we were, you know, kind of wrong, but kind of right at the same time on a lot of those things. Uh so with no further ado, we're just gonna get into it. Um I'll start with uh the birds' first pick in the draft. Uh they they moved up.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Couple spots.
SPEAKER_04Before you get to that real quick, go right in.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, man.
SPEAKER_04Now, me and Jay Valdy were actually watching them draft together. Okay. And before, obviously, you just said that we moved up and everything like that. There was one person for both of us that we didn't want to go to a team, but it just kept falling and falling and falling, and he ended up going to Dallas. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Which probably one of the best talents that came out of that draft class. Out of doubt. Um, but as we're sitting there, Jeff's getting the updates on Twitter. Like he was getting it before they even said it on TV.
SPEAKER_05You were texting us. I'm like, how does he know this? Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so I felt like Adam Scheffner right there. Like we were, I was getting the breaking news instant. Anyway, I was like, there's one person I want that's still left. This was at like we got to like pick 15, pick 16. Okay. I was like, yo, the Oregon tight end's there. I said, Jeff, because he's still.
SPEAKER_00Now you know I was talking about this cat for a minute.
SPEAKER_04Yes. I was like, Jeff, he's still there. Stay off of Twitter. What's this motherfucking do? Gets on Twitter. Yo, the Jets just took him. I said, bro.
SPEAKER_05I was so mad at the Jets. What are you doing drafting a tight end? I said, he was Why y'all trying to be good?
SPEAKER_04I said, he went to the wrong green. Then it's the offensive tackle from Clemson that I thought we were gonna get.
SPEAKER_00That's what I thought. I wanted a tight end, but the tackle was what I thought we were gonna get.
SPEAKER_04That yeah, that's like going into the draft, that's exactly who I thought was gonna be our draft pick. Yeah. I didn't think he was gonna go as high as he did, and they had him in every thing that I looked at, they had us.
SPEAKER_00It was like five mocks that had him go into the year.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, his last name was Miller, right? Yes. Brandon Miller, I think. Close enough. Close enough. Anyway, he got drafted. I'm like, all right, I give up, bro. I was about to turn the draft off. I was done. Me and Jeff, we me and Jay Valdy, we were both done.
SPEAKER_03We were like, who the fuck is left?
SPEAKER_04Who is left? And then uh I'll let you continue from there. But I was I was almost done with the draft, to be honest with you. Because everybody that me and Jay Valdy were like, all right, let's take him. He's still available. Go on. I'm like, is there anybody left for us?
SPEAKER_00So before I talk about the Eagles picking Makai Lemon, trading up to pick Makai Lemon at the uh at the 20 spot and uh basically jumping their in-state rival to do it, I'll ask you before I talk about you know what I know about him, because when they traded up to take him and they took him, what was your first thought?
SPEAKER_04Oh, like him or like because we were moving up, like who'd I think we were gonna get?
SPEAKER_00No, about him. About him at that point you already knew they were moving up.
SPEAKER_04Uh my first?
SPEAKER_00Because a lot of people were like, I why? Some people were like, they didn't really get it. Some people were excited. What was your first thought?
SPEAKER_04I looked at Jeff and I said, Who the fuck is this? I swear on everything I love, yes.
SPEAKER_01Wow, okay.
SPEAKER_04Because I didn't obviously I watch college football, but I didn't watch him. You know, he played for USC. Right. It's not like that's a game I'm turning on. Oh, yeah, USC's on. Absolutely. You know what I'm saying? So I I looked at Jeff. Jeff looked at me, he was like, Yeah, bro, I don't I don't know who this is. Gotcha. And then that's when everything started to come out.
SPEAKER_00What about you? When you heard that you took a wide receiver, what was your first thought?
SPEAKER_04AJ Brown's gone.
SPEAKER_00Okay. That's that was your first thought, right? Before you even seen him or looked at him, first thought.
SPEAKER_04First thought was I'm pretty sure I texted that. Yeah in our group chat. Yeah. You took a wide receiver from there goes AJ Brown. I said, AJ Brown, gone.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's exactly what you said. So the the re and the one of the reasons why I I I took him to talk about was the um, as some of you know may know, my nephew plays uh college football. The first team that uh ever recruited him was Alabama. The second team was USC. And I remember telling your dad that I wanted him to go to USC because they had a bunch of wide receivers. So I watched a lot of their games only because of that. So I I knew who he was just from like, oh, let me see what USC is on. Let me let me go let me go check him out. And the thing was that every time I'd watch him, he'd jump off. I'm gonna tell you what he reminded me of because back in the day I didn't watch a lot, even though they were on every weekend at three o'clock. I didn't watch a lot of Alabama. But I remember watching Alabama when they had Waddle, Smith, Ruggs, and how much Devontae jumped off the screen when you watched him. I clearly remember watching a game, and I don't even know what we were watching because Nelson don't watch college football. And we were at his house, we were outside, and and it was on. And I was like, yo, this dude is crazy. It might have been the LSU game that they were playing in. Had something like 200 yards. I'm like, how's this little motherfucker doing this? And then then I realized, oh, he's the Heisman Trophy winner, like Blitnikov winner. Like, I didn't, I didn't even know that. But just eye test wise, I was like, yeah, this dude got it. I don't care how skinny he is, I don't care how small he is, he's always open. And this was Makai Lemon was kind of like that when I watched him. Always open, tough as nails. The the the comp they use is a Monsieur Brown, literally, that's how he plays. So as far as your text, yo, AJ Brown is gone. Yeah. After me saying, oh shit, they got Makai Lemon, the second thought was yeah, AJ Brown is probably out the door. We just don't have enough, we're not carrying seven wide receivers. So it's you know, it's it's time for him to go. But um as far as the pick itself, I think it's a great pick, man. Um I I can't honestly say the birds have ever had a slot receiver like him. You know, uh they've had some decent slot receivers, but they haven't really had like a inside the 20 kind of like sit down, get open kind of guy. I I I I could be wrong, but in the past 15 years, do you remember anybody that was like an Amon Street Brown, Amon State Brown? Like, we don't we've never really had anybody like that. And you can't rely on Dallas Goddard to always be that guy. Sometimes you need some, you need a fast guy, you need a you need a wide receiver to be able to do that. Everything we do, outside the numbers, unless it's 15-yard posts or crossing routes. If it's not that, it's everything is on the outside. So we got a new OC. I'm really, really interested to see how they're gonna use him. I think if they do it right.
SPEAKER_05I have a feeling they're gonna use him because he comes under McVeigh's coaching tree.
SPEAKER_00Um Puka Nakua style. I think so too. If they can get 75% of that, watch out.
SPEAKER_04You know, so listen, all we know, I mean, when I seen him drafted, it was like, damn, his other wide receivers I already taken. Why did he fall back so far? And are these other wide receivers as good as what he is? Like the one that went to the Texans, uh Tennessee.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_04I was like, all right, he was I I don't even think I mean he's a good ball player, don't get me wrong.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he is. But friend of mine's a Tennessee Titans fan, and he was like, why do we take this guy? But go ahead.
SPEAKER_04And I think the one from Ohio State is coming out next year. Jeremiah Smith.
SPEAKER_00Jeremiah Smith, yeah.
SPEAKER_04He's gonna be a dog. But that's that's what like my brain was like trying to wrap around was like, all right, well, he went fourth overall, and then the next wide receiver was 20th overall that we took him. Like, what what's going on? Right. And then uh, who was it? Skip Bayliss. He was blowing up on Twitter because obviously the Eagles traded with Dallas. Yeah. Jumped in front of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh was on the phone with him, Eagles couldn't reach him because Pittsburgh was on the phone with Lemmon. He hangs up with Pittsburgh, Eagles call. Oh, we're drafting you right here because we just jumped in front of Pittsburgh.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Shout out to you, Pittsburgh. But yeah.
SPEAKER_05His I mean That's the most interesting thing I've seen. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But they clearly Pittsburgh wanted him. So it wasn't like he was gonna fall out of the first round. Like clearly they they wanted him too.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And I think just the way it fell wide receiver-wide, that I mean, why is that he fell to a spot where Howard was like, we gotta go get this guy. And it and from some of the things I heard, he made it seem like they were trying to get up even higher than that.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I saw I saw a post saying that too as well.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so I heard that, yeah. I think they were trying, I mean, from what I heard, I think they were trying to go like 15, 16. They were trying to get up with uh Tampa. That's what I seen.
SPEAKER_00I'm pretty sure I I'm pretty sure I text that because I was saying that if we can get up to 15, we can get the tight end. Yeah. You know, but I guess the draft capital was too much, and at the end. End of the day, maybe they was like, we got another planet tight end. And we're gonna segue to that right now.
SPEAKER_04So well, with our uh second overall pick, uh pick 54, we got the 6'4-239 tight end from Vanderbilt.
SPEAKER_00Uh smart guy.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, Andy. Um his name is Eli Stowers. Um I think he's gonna be really good uh for the Eagles. Um and I was actually watching when Howie was talking to him when he when he was like, you know, we're gonna draft you. We have really good um success. Success, yeah, with second round tight ends. I mean, it was Oh, yeah. Cause it was Goddard and Erdart. Yeah. So uh I mean they got this kid clearly they had a plan. He played at um he started his college career at Texas AM, uh, then went to New Mexico State, and then ended uh with Vanderbilt last year. Um but he won the John Mackey Award, best tight end in the nation in 2025. Um won the William v. Campbell trophy, and he was he was absolutely insane from what I've read about him. They had, you know, Shadi that went to the Jets, but then you brought in Stowers, which totally different, I would say, because he can't block as well, but he's an elite tight end player. Uh his vertical jump was 44 and a half. Um and I think he ran he ran like a 4, 4'5, 4'4, something like that.
SPEAKER_00It was absolutely insane that he he's just a great he's more along the lines of ironically, a guy that we've talked about on his pod that's not an eagle so much. Kyle Pitts. He's a lot like Kyle Pitts. He ain't he ain't doing a whole hell of a lot of blocking.
SPEAKER_05I even saw some comparisons to Evan Ingram.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, same thing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00He ain't you know doing a whole lot of blocking, but yeah, so I mean I'm I'm excited to see.
SPEAKER_04Uh he's very young. So I think he's 20, 23. So Okay. I mean, from what everybody was saying that Howie stole another second round pick. And I think I think we got ourselves a player in a tight end position.
SPEAKER_00So clearly they thought the need was uh offense, the first two picks. Two picks, yeah. Uh and I mean technically, first three picks, so Joey, it's on you.
SPEAKER_05With the with our third pick, pick number sixty-eight, we took Markel Bell out of Miami.
SPEAKER_00Um he's his own city in Miami, that guy.
SPEAKER_05This guy six foot nine to three hundred and forty to three hundred and forty-six pounds. Oh my god. That guy is massive. Paul's.
SPEAKER_01Shees.
SPEAKER_05That's cool. Um, the moment he does step on the field, if he does, which we obviously hope that happens, he will be the largest player to play football for the Philadelphia Eagles.
SPEAKER_00Wow. Yeah. That's crazy.
SPEAKER_05Wow. This is an interesting one because he started his college career at JUCO at Holmes Community College in Miami. Or before transferring to Miami. Um became the number one JUCO transfer um before landing at Miami.
SPEAKER_02Um became a full-time left tackle in 2025. Um last year he allowed zero sacks. I think that's pretty good, right?
SPEAKER_05Uh, I'd say so. I'd say so. Pretty good. Uh needs he definitely a guy that needs some developing. And obviously, with Stout not being in the building, I worry a little bit. Uh just because of the success he's had. Uh but if you could turn this guy into a serviceable tight end, um not tight end, uh tackle. That'd be a big ass tight end. Yeah, bro. A serviceable tackle, I think you're you're you're in good shape. I mean, somebody six foot nine, I can only his imagine his wingspan is ginormous. So just for an edge guy to try and get around him is gonna be tough.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I mean I I just heard I heard a few downfalls with him. Uh speak about it. Just he can't get up his own way. Yeah. I mean, that's a big dude. But it's a big dude. I mean, just like Yeah, I would think so. Just like JA said, though. I mean, if he if they can develop him to be something, I mean, sorry to say, you have the best right tackle in the league. I mean, future Hall of Fame will. Yeah, absolutely. So, I mean, if you can learn just a few things from him, I mean, even Mylotta on the other side, you know, they're both tackles. If you could just learn from them, I mean, shit, my Lotta never played football before he got drafted. I mean, he played rugby, but he he wasn't sitting up there trying to protect the QB, you know.
SPEAKER_05The thing, the thing I do like about this guy, if you can get if you can get him to get his feet underneath of him, once he gets your hands on you, you're not going nowhere. You know how hard it is gonna be to move a guy of that stature.
SPEAKER_00Well, you're absolutely right. And you're absolutely right, because what is the one thing that makes Glenne Johnson so good? It's not his arms.
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_00It's that get off. Nobody does what he does.
SPEAKER_04And that first step back, that get back that he does. Yes. There's not a lot of people that can do that.
SPEAKER_00No, very, very few people can do that.
SPEAKER_05To go along with the zero sacks, he had a super low pressure rate. He from last year, he ranged from 1.6 to about 2.7. I mean, that's impressive.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I can't say I watched a ton of Miami other than national championship game and leading up to the national championship game. But I watched a few highlights of the national championship game, and the first thing I looked at was like, all right, well, what does this guy look like? And I don't think Carson Beck. Yeah. I was like, Carson Beck didn't have to worry about that side of the field because he didn't look like he was under pressure at all.
SPEAKER_05He uh coming from him. No, um, but definitely had to have something clicked in his final year before getting drafted. Uh especially being a third-round pick. 2024, his his pressure rate was 13%. So that's a that's a big jump.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's a big jump.
SPEAKER_05But, you know, I hope it works out for the best, and we get another dog that, you know, a couple years down the line or whenever Lane's like I've had enough, he's able to step in and here we are with another 10-year tackle.
SPEAKER_00Well, clearly he got better, right? And that's that's what you want.
SPEAKER_04And I think I mean getting drafted in the third round, I mean, and getting better. All I see with that room with the veterans, I I can only see him getting better.
SPEAKER_00Got some good guys to learn from.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_05You know, I'm not necessarily mad at them taking a possible project in the third round. Who's got upside? You know, it's different. You take a guy who's never played in a third round, then you're like, what the fuck are you doing? Yeah. But uh definitely, definitely excited to see what they can teach this cat and and when he gets his number called, see what he can do.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely. Um I think it's a good pick. But we shall see. You can't you can't go wrong with uh speed and you can't go wrong with size. Something you can't teach. So we shall see. But he, like you said, he got some good guys to learn from. A guy that uh is already established in this league, uh, we trade for with the next pick in the third round. So we obstentiously we we turned we turned several compensatory picks into this pick. Yep. Uh which is another Howie Roseman masterclass.
SPEAKER_04That's why he is gonna be a Hall of Fame General Maho.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely, you're right. Ain't there's very few that are in the Hall of Fame. He will be one. And uh one of those compensatory picks, uh Howie traded uh to the Minnesota Vikings for uh one Mr. Jonathan Gernard, who is uh a defensive end uh coming off a bit of an injury, but when he wasn't injured, was a perennial double-digit sack guy.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00And uh back-to-back season 12 sacks, I believe. Yes, sir. Yep. Now, I can't honestly say I was I was surprised by this because we've been hearing it.
SPEAKER_05We've had been hearing it for a minute.
SPEAKER_00Hearing it for for for a minute that this was gonna happen.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But I thought, you know, sometimes that shit happens and sometimes it don't, sometimes it's just talk. But clearly this happened.
SPEAKER_04And that's the thing. They they talked, they stopped talking, and then draft night. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Draft night's when it when it went down, so to speak.
SPEAKER_04Even though it was definitely finalized before the draft.
SPEAKER_00Uh yeah, he was at a sixers. He was at the sixers game when he got drafted. Or when he got traded. Yeah, he was after. Yeah, I did it at halftime. Yeah, right. Yeah, they just kind of just walked right over to the link. No, they came here. I was in the Wells War, goes, Yeah, just yeah, same equipment, same equipment. But uh, yeah, so uh I I think that I mean, clearly we know what the position of edge rusher means to the Philadelphia Eagles. They traded for one who was really good in the middle of the season. I believe they tried to re-sign him. Couldn't. He outpriced himself. They waited until they were able to move some money around. Because I think I think if they would have made, because it's not that big a difference between 120 and 100. And I think that if he would have waited around, they would have signed Phillips. But they still ended up getting their man.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. We ended up signing him to Extension, right? Bernard?
SPEAKER_00Yes, four years, a hundred million dollars.
SPEAKER_04Four years a hundred million.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Which is not really four years, a hundred million dollars. It's really two years, fifty million dollars with two years of what? Void years. So it's not technically a hundred million dollars.
SPEAKER_05He can't get it away with this.
SPEAKER_00It's not a hundred. He's guaranteed to get fifty. He's gonna get that this year. Uh, well, he's gonna get it over the next two years. His cap hit for this year is six point three million. His cap hit for the following year is thirteen point five.
SPEAKER_04Okay. Touch my arm.
SPEAKER_00So he'll get all his, he'll get he'll get the 50 million. Yeah, he'll get his money. But but those other two, I don't think he gettes. But yeah, so that that was what the deal was. And uh they couldn't have done that with Phillips. They would have had to, since he was already in the building, they wouldn't have been able to throw the four years on there. They would have had to sign him outright because he was a free agent. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I mean, I I like it. I I like the trade a lot. Oh, yeah, I love the trade. What why not? I mean, like Joey said, two back-to-back 12, 12 sack seasons, solo sacks, not you know, combined. But and then, you know, he did have, I think he had a sh uh, I want to say shoulder injury. Yes, last year. Last year. So that that kind of put him down. I mean, he had he still had four sacks last year, even fighting with that injury. Um, I don't know, man. He's one hell of a player. Sure is. So I'm excited to see.
SPEAKER_00Anytime Michael Parsons is like, them damn Eagles did it again, they must mean they're doing something right. So uh yeah, that's what we did in the third round. Uh before I get to the next uh pick, which is how is gonna talk about the fifth round pick.
SPEAKER_02Um I heard something about we brought him, we're gonna bring him up again, Howie Roseman.
SPEAKER_00That something else he's ahead of the curve on. That I didn't realize until I watched this draft. And somebody, somebody else told me told me about this who was who was in the league for several years. And uh you notice the Eagles on didn't have any fourth round picks, right? So they're kind of anti-fourth round pick. And I was like, Well, why do you say that?
SPEAKER_02He said, Why would a guy who's making 2.1 in NIL come to make a fourth round pick minimum in the league with not the guarantee of being assigned to a team?
SPEAKER_00And I was like, Yeah, he's now look at the last the the the the six-seven round picks, all old guys. This is it for them. They have to do this. First, one, two, three, he gets the perennial guys, the guys that are gonna make the money, that don't necessarily want to go back, skips the middle part, five, six, seven. And then goes five, six, seven with the older guys who had no choice but to take this because they've aged out of the league. Out of uh college. College. I was like, shit. That makes a ton of fucking sense.
SPEAKER_05Fucking genius.
SPEAKER_00He started doing this last year.
SPEAKER_05Thank you, Chip Kelly.
SPEAKER_00He started doing it last year when he was doing that. He was like, Yeah, those those picks don't really matter. Technically, four and five don't really matter. He was like, I'd rather trade them for Jonathan Goodnard or somebody like that. I'd rather trade them for future assets, package them, then bring them in or waste picks on them. Because the odds are those guys aren't gonna make the team. I'll take the flyers on the five, six, and seven guys. If they make the team, and look, if you look at these five, six, and seven guys, these are all guys that he's taking flyers on. Like, might be boom, might be bust, but doesn't hurt you. Doesn't hurt you. Yeah. So I just want to throw that out there to people who are listening. Because uh according to the emails, they like when I talk about that kind of shit. So I'm talking about that kind of shit right now. So, Sammy, uh, who did they pick next uh with their first pick in the fifth round?
SPEAKER_04Uh fifth round pick, uh, number 178 was uh Cole Payton, and we went back to North Dakota State QB.
SPEAKER_00I was completely surprised when I was at the pen relays and I looked at my phone and I was like, This is a typo.
SPEAKER_05You were at the pen relays? Yeah. I've been there, it's pretty nice.
SPEAKER_04Big ass uh QB. I mean 6'4, 239 as a QB. Lefty. Busy. I didn't know that. Yes, sir. Other than the lefty part, Vanilla Vic. Pretty, pretty No, I lied. I I read the wrong one. But he's 6'3, 232, but he's a lefty. Wow.
SPEAKER_02Wow, go ahead.
SPEAKER_04My bad, my bad. Yeah. So 6'3, 232, but he is a lefty. Um, like I said, played at North Dakota State, uh, part of two FCS national championship teams, 2021-2024. Uh became full starter in 2025 and broke out with 2,719 pass yards, 16 touchdowns, 777 rushing yards, and 13 touchdowns. Um his playing style is uh dual threat. Uh he can pass, but he is run efficiency. So um very strong athletic um QB. Uh ran a 4'56 40-yard dash for being 6'3, 232. Um the one thing is that you know he's expected to be a backup, but a developmental player. So, you know, we have Jalen, we have Andy Dalton, Tanner McKee, and now we have Cole Paine. So I like we were talking about earlier, I can't see Tanner McKee being there, you know, possibly. Um because they're not going to keep four QBs.
SPEAKER_02Hell no.
SPEAKER_04So Andy Dalton, he's about uh 40 something years old, and I can't believe he's still playing.
SPEAKER_00I was he was in my third grade class.
SPEAKER_04Was he?
SPEAKER_00That's awesome.
SPEAKER_01Andy Dalton is pretty old.
SPEAKER_04My understanding on this right now, because they have Jalen and Andy Dalton, you're bringing this guy in as a 6'3 frame. I compare him to Taysom Hill. Oh, really? Yes.
SPEAKER_00I'll be honest with you I didn't really watch any of the tapes. Why?
SPEAKER_04Well, when you get a second, okay, check out his tape. Um, very Taysom Hill-like.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_04Uh Wildcat. You know, like, but he's a QB, so he's in this uh shotgun, takes a snap, gone behind the blocker. Okay. Um they may develop him. He he could possibly be a tight end. There's different options with this guy, which is also yeah. So um, I mean, like you said, a boom or a bust. I mean, you know, you gotta develop this player, but you can stick him in as any anything that you could possibly think of, I would say, except wide receiver. But, you know, it's good to have a dual dual threat QB as what Jalen Hurts is. I mean, obviously we didn't see it last year with the running part of it and Jalen Hurts, but we know he could do it. And I feel like it's good to have somebody like that right behind Jalen and can learn from Jalen.
SPEAKER_05Sure, it ain't gonna be Andy Dalton. Not that he's a bad quarterback, but he's not mobile no more. No. Nah. Absolutely not.
SPEAKER_04So, yeah. That is uh Cole Payton.
SPEAKER_00Good job, Sammy. Uh, I definitely gonna I'm you got me intrigued now because I didn't really watch the video of him. I'm I'm I'm gonna pop on some YouTube video of Mr. Cole Payton. Uh uh vanilla big. Um Joey uh with the uh only pick in the sixth round.
SPEAKER_05Uh sixth round pick, pick 207, Michael Morris.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_05Out of Georgia. Who's that coming down the track?
SPEAKER_00Up in up until this point, other than trading for Jonathan Gernard, all offense up until this point.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Uh five-year guy, Georgia. He's been a part of two championships.
SPEAKER_00Older guy.
SPEAKER_05Played in three SEC titles. Started all 14 games at left guard this year. Another solid dude, 6'5, 334 pounds. Um, 334 pounds.
SPEAKER_00I don't know where they make these humans at, boy.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. But he's, you know, he's he's known for his power and his size and being able to pretty much stop a defender in his tracks. Um another guy who allowed zero sacks in his final season.
SPEAKER_00That's good. And the SEC.
SPEAKER_05That's real good. Really good. Um and you know, they they say what he does best is stopping the bull rush.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay. Logan.
SPEAKER_05We've seen we've seen our guards last year kind of get blown up. Yeah. Um, so if you can plug in play, you know, whether he becomes a starter or just a rotation guy, if somebody, you know, is uh is hurt, because this is the this is the one line and or group of players in the NFL that don't get a break. Everybody else you can rotate in them and the quarterback, they don't get a break. Um so you know, with with especially with Landon Dickerson contemplating retirement over the offseason. Um he has another year like that, you could you need somebody who's gonna be able to step into Into that position and they happen to play the same exact position. So, you know, just depth. Depth on the O line is important.
SPEAKER_04Never hurts.
SPEAKER_05Nope. He's gonna be like service and serviceable guys at that. Not rolling out Rhett totes and that prior.
SPEAKER_04That's exactly where I was going with it. Yeah. Um, so as long as he's not as bad as they are.
SPEAKER_00I said, can't I'm about to cancel that tote the jersey I got for you. Oh well. All right.
SPEAKER_05But to get an SEC guy who's didn't give up a sack in the sixth round is that is pretty impressive, bro. It's crazy. Georgia Eagle. That's what we are. Wow. That's really yeah, you're right. They say, you know, sneaky athletic for a guy his size. Um his weaknesses, which can hurt you in the NFL, he gets his hands up too high too high and loses leverage. So, you know, you gotta take care of that. Um, and pass protection wasn't the best at.
SPEAKER_00But a six-round pick, you to, you know, like you said, dart on the dart board, just boom or bust, throwing something at the door.
SPEAKER_05If he can become a serviceable backup or even maybe possible starter down the line, you know, I take it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um again, can't go wrong with depth on the O line. So we shall see. Um, with our next pick, um We had three seventh round picks. Three seventh round picks. Um again, like I discussed, older guy. Uh Mr. Cole Wisnewski.
SPEAKER_04I love this dude.
SPEAKER_00So is he your son of Stefan Wisnewski? He might be. I don't know. That's a good question. I have to get our stats and research team get on that tomorrow. Um but you said you love this guy, right? So I I like him slash love him. And the thing that has me confused, because I did watch some tape on him, is that I don't think he's a good safety. But I think he could be a really good off-ball linebacker if he had 15 more pounds on him. He's like a tweener. Like I he looks a little, you know, a little wonky uh in coverage, gets lost a little bit, but man, can this kid hit?
SPEAKER_04And tackle.
SPEAKER_00And tackle. Yeah. So I I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_04That's where my my love part for him is there, is because of the hitting and the tackling.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he does not if if he gets his arms wrapped around you, he's tackling you, which you can't as a safety, that's your job. Especially as a strong safety.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh free safety, you gotta cover. But strong safety, if somebody comes across the middle, you gotta make sure that that rat ends with you. There is no rat. And from the from the tape that I watched, that's what he does. Like I said, the downside is you know, if you ask him to do anything other than that, I'm not sure he can really do it. But again, 24 years old, seventh round pick, older guy, take a flyer, see what we got. But at that point, it can't hurt. Uh again, we we we still have a lot of questions at the safety position that I can't see aren't answered by training camp. Uh maybe Mr. Rosnowski will be the answer. Uh we don't know. I guess we will see. Maybe they'll pick somebody up post-June 1.
unknownThere's a trade.
SPEAKER_00Not really sure. Could be. I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_04I see I seen one dude I'd like to get Justin Reed.
SPEAKER_00Boy, you had me scared for a minute. I thought you were gonna talk about Justin Simmons again.
SPEAKER_04He retired. He retired.
SPEAKER_00No, I know. I'm just saying, I thought you was gonna do that ship sailed.
SPEAKER_01We talked about that dude for about four months.
SPEAKER_00It was like, oh, this guy. Nah. But yeah, you're right. I would love that. I I I think it might be a little costly, though. I 100% agree. Yeah, I think it might be a little costly, but we shall see. Moving on to our next pick. One of the more interesting picks in the seventh round. Sammy, it's on you. I got nothing but this one. There's no YouTube tape. There is no.
SPEAKER_04Absolutely not. Uh when you say, when you say flyer, this is this is this is the plane.
SPEAKER_01This is the plane right here. Will it be American? Will it be Spirit? Tune in to find out.
SPEAKER_05Spirit retired today, too. That's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_01Will it be American? Will it be Spirit?
SPEAKER_04Well, the Eagles uh made history um in this draft uh round seven, pick 251. Um his name is Ur Bernard. You got it right.
SPEAKER_00Um this dude I put I put edge there, but oh I don't know. I didn't I didn't put edge there. I just put questions I just put question marks like you know.
SPEAKER_04I'm kind of happy that you did do that because he can he don't know what the hell he's doing, but nope.
SPEAKER_05I'll give that cap one job. Yep, exactly. Uh treat him like Bobby Boucher. Your job is to tackle the guy with the football. There you go. Don't worry about nothing else.
SPEAKER_04This dude is a freaking nature, though. He is. He's a 6'4, 306, ran a 4'6, 6% body fat. Yeah. Yeah, he's that is a physical specimen.
SPEAKER_00Again, I don't know where they're making these humans at, but good luck.
SPEAKER_04This one is from Nigeria.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04But hey, we take our shots.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, seventh round. Like I said, you're either taking an old guy or a guy who's never touched a ball in his life.
SPEAKER_05So we'll see. If they have the success and how they did it with Jordan Maiolada, I mean hey. And listen. But this is with nothing but stars behind it.
SPEAKER_04Exactly. And the thing is with this guy, he's first of all, freaking nature, like I already said, but I go back to the people around him. That defensive line, that whole defensive line for the Eagles is something that he can learn from. I mean, you're you're talking Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Ojomo. I mean, just in the defensive tackle part. And Ty Robinson, I mean, we got their tie in there too. Because he's still there, but you know, this is a guy that you're taking a shot on can turn out absolutely insane. I mean, they did compare him to Miles Garrett. Everything is pretty much the same.
SPEAKER_05I'm buying it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04But me too.
SPEAKER_05If you turn him into half of Miles Garrett, exactly.
SPEAKER_04Exactly. So, I mean, we'll see. Uh he played basketball.
SPEAKER_05Oh, that's a plus. Yeah. Athleticism. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So a guy I would have loved to see him learn from. Obviously, he's probably not coming back, probably retiring, would be BG. Yeah. Just teach tape all day long.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. I mean, and something else from this dude's combine that is just blowing my mind is like I said, he ran the 463-40. He also had a 10 foot 10 uh broad jump.
SPEAKER_00The numbers are insane with this game.
SPEAKER_0439-inch vertical. And 31 reps of 225 bench press. I mean. Yes. Well, if he don't make it with the Eagles, somebody's gonna have to try and pick him up.
SPEAKER_00I know who. I know exactly who's gonna pick it up ping him up.
SPEAKER_05Who's that?
SPEAKER_00Paul Leviskusen, or whatever his name is, formerly known as Triple H. He'll be in the W.
SPEAKER_03But he'll be with the dude for uh the one that's already in there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he'll be with him. I know who you're talking about. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00That's why he don't make it make it NFL, trust me. You will be catching him on Monday Night Raw in about a year. But go ahead, Joey.
SPEAKER_05I don't know if you guys saw the video of when they drafted him. Um very mellow guy until they handed the phone to the defensive line coach. I forget his name. But you could hear, like he's talking to Hal, he talked to Coach Sirianni, talked to Jeffrey Laurie, and was very mellow. Yeah, yeah, I'm excited. Hand the phone to our defensive line coach. Boy, his whole the sound just changed. Yeah. Just pure excitement, like a live like a little kid. So that gives me that much hope, and that's all you need is that little bit of hope to see what he can turn into.
SPEAKER_04I mean like I said, the Eagles, they they made history. I mean, the dude was from the NFL International Player Pathway Program.
SPEAKER_00So that was Which is which is such an untap uh untapped pipeline of talent if they can figure it out. I think the Birds are only one of two teams that have an academy there.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Um just never know, man. If you can figure it out with that, the world's greatest athlete could be under you know, and sometimes you just never know.
SPEAKER_00Amen. I don't think it's any I don't think it's any coincidence that out of the top ten players in the NBA, six of them ain't from this country. So you gotta start looking outside your borders if you want talent. Absolutely. And uh that's a that's a great pathway uh to it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I mean, you know, the first preseason game hasn't been announced yet, but we probably will see him in the first preseason game if he makes the team.
SPEAKER_00I I am normally anti-going to preseason games. I I I I might think about going just for that.
SPEAKER_04You're not lying.
SPEAKER_00I think we might I think we might We may have to take a version. I think we might have to do a road trip to that. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_04Just one.
SPEAKER_00Just one. Because I'm I'm normally anti-preseason game because And that's the thing.
SPEAKER_04Like, I mean, we take one. I mean, we're talking about all these guys. They're gonna play. They're gonna play. So you talk about the offensive tackle, the this dude, the tight end. I mean, I don't know. We're gonna have to talk about this. Who?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Let me. Let me just go and play. Oh, yeah. I think we might have to go to game one. I'm putting it out there. We we're going to go to game one. We're going. We're going to the first preseason game. Uh uh again, I'm normally anti-preseason game, but.
SPEAKER_05When do we think that is? Uh it wasn't. I just looked it up. It wasn't announced. August.
SPEAKER_00Sometime, I would think.
SPEAKER_05Well, if it's well no, it ain't gonna be that late. So we should be good, Sammy. We're going away for a weekend in August.
SPEAKER_02Oh, are you?
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Oh.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_04Well, last year was uh August 22nd.
SPEAKER_00Is that what y'all going away?
SPEAKER_05We're going away the last weekend in August.
SPEAKER_04Last weekend in August.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_04For some party thing.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_04Well, um Somebody's getting married and stuff.
SPEAKER_00So no, but even that, wait a minute. That can't be the that can't be the first piece of the game.
SPEAKER_05No, it's gotta be.
SPEAKER_04No, I'm saying that's what it was last year.
SPEAKER_00The first piece of the game?
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Well, they only played what, two? Did they only play two? Three.
SPEAKER_04Wait, hold on. No, that's not right. Oh, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. August 7th. Yeah, that had to be the first one. August 7th, 1622.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that's okay. Yeah, we should.
SPEAKER_04For some reason, they have the last game first. I got you. It's hot out there, boy.
SPEAKER_00Can't can't please this guy. No, no, I'm not. Shit. Last game we were at 30 degrees out there, bitch.
SPEAKER_04What? I mean, lying.
SPEAKER_00I mean, y'all was at the game. I'll just head out there and tailgate it.
SPEAKER_04And tailgate freeze our asses off.
SPEAKER_00Then I went to the casino for 45 minutes again. And I came home and watched y'all. But it was a good game, though. They won, right? Came out with a dub. Came out with a dub. You know what I mean? So, but yeah. We will uh we'll definitely check that out. Hope Mr. Bernard um hope he makes the team. Me too. And I and I at this point I can't really see him not making the team. So but we'll see. Uh moving on to our last pick. The very next pick. The next pick 252 in the uh Eagles 2024.
SPEAKER_05Was uh Keyshawn James Newby. Not gonna lie. I don't know much about this guy. Um nor do I. Nor do I. Edge slash outside linebacker. Um was at New Mexico. He also jumped, he started off at Montana Tech, then transferred to Idaho. Okay. Finished first team all big sky, and then finished career at New Mexico.
SPEAKER_02Wait a minute. What were the first two schools you said?
SPEAKER_05Montana Tech, and then transferred to Idaho, and it has FCS next to it.
SPEAKER_00Damn. For a dude named Keyshawn that wanna play in Montana and Idaho, he must have really wanted to play football really, really bad. Because I can assure you, there ain't a whole lot of dudes named Keyshawn in either one of those two things.
SPEAKER_05Well, go ahead, Joey. Um I had a pretty dominant season, uh, his last season in uh New Mexico. He had career Oh, I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_022025 season, nine sacks, fifteen tackles for losses. Um this is another prototypical flyer.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Four or five of these guys probably going to be an edge guy more so than a linebacker. Um I can't say him. His best trait is his explosiveness. He's got a quick first step. Um and that's that's everything for an edge guy. Quick first step beating beating a uh a tackle to their set position is is huge. And if you can do that, the rest is just polishing your craft.
SPEAKER_00I don't know if you guys saw the Jonathan Gernard interview with Chris Long, but they asked him about uh, and this is going back to what you're talking about with the edge rusher. They asked him if he had saw OR Bernard, and he said, Yeah, he saw him, you know, was in the building, he saw him and just introduced himself to him. He was like, Well, what's the first thing you're gonna teach him? Bull rush. So that's the first thing I'm gonna teach him.
SPEAKER_04Hell yeah.
SPEAKER_00So that's half the battle. You can bull rush somebody, you set up everything off of that. And Chris Long was like, absolute move.
SPEAKER_04So And you set up the guys around you. Yeah. You know.
SPEAKER_05This guy, unlike the other guy's a smaller guy, six foot two, two hundred and thirty-eight pounds. How dare they take somebody normal?
SPEAKER_00Take these fucking monsters. Jeez.
SPEAKER_05You know, as we know, it ain't about how big you are, Paul's. It's about the talent you have and how you can produce. I mean, our wide receiver room outside of A.J. Brown and Johnny Wilson, they're on the smaller side of things.
SPEAKER_00I mean, a guy we were talking about earlier, like the the knock on N'Cobe Dean was he was like a kind of like a smaller kind of guy.
SPEAKER_05Didn't really matter. Didn't play that way. Didn't play that way.
SPEAKER_00At all. So yeah, you're right.
SPEAKER_05But drafted a guy in a position that I think was a need. I mean, you can we saw what we had on the edge last year, wasn't phenomenal. It's rough. Um so bringing in a guy in here who could possibly be a rotational piece. You know, I think, you know, how he saw the vision and he addressed what he thought were the biggest needs and said, all right, let me fill in what we absolutely could use some help with.
SPEAKER_00I agree. Yeah, we'll see if you uh Mr. Mr. Newby. James Newbie, sorry. See if you make the team. Uh I didn't watch any tape on you. I'm just going off what Joey said. And I I I hope to see you when we go to our first preseason game. Hopefully you make it to that point. Last pick in the seventh round, you know, there's no guarantee. But you got drafted, my guy. And that's a lot more than a lot of other people can say. The last guy I'm gonna talk about is an undrafted free agent that I got a feeling that might be a little bit of a steal. And that's Mr. Dante Lawson. Now, I wanted to, I I I thought about it. We should have called Jay Daldy and had him speak on it because he probably knows more about him than I do. But I did watch a little bit of him, and he was the first call that the Eagles made after the draft. They made it a priority to sign this guy as an undrafted free agent. There's two things that are going on in your mind when that happens. One, why wasn't he drafted? And two, what is it that they're seeing in him that made it such a priority for them to sign? Now, clearly our linebacker room is at the top pretty heavy. And after that, you got Trot and Trot Jr. in shit, I don't know what else. So maybe maybe they're thinking, cuz uh well, let's give this guy a shot. I'm not sure. When it comes to pedigree, more times than not, and they've proven this by the amount of guys that they've taken from Georgia, there's nothing wrong with taking one of those SEC guys. I know it sounds weird, like, oh, you just close your eyes and take one of the buttons where the talent's at, man. It it really is. The the Big Ten, or I mean, there's no 14 teams in the Big Ten now, but they're real top heavy with Indiana, Ohio State. I think it's is Oregon in a in a Big Ten? Uh I don't know if the Oregon's in a Big Ten. USC's in a Big Ten. Yes. Yeah. So they're they're really top heavy, but after that, Penn State, after that, there's a drop-off. SEC is eight, nine teams deep with talent.
SPEAKER_04Jay Valdy loved it.
SPEAKER_00That's why I wanted to talk to him.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. He uh he thinks we got the best uh undrafted free agent.
SPEAKER_02Really?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Uh I mean, he's an Alabama fan. And uh he was just talking about, you know, I mean, every player has their their pros and their cons. But he said, all in all, he's a really good player. Really good player.
SPEAKER_00I know I watched him a little bit, and that's what I thought. I was like, this guy's pretty good. Like, why did anybody know?
SPEAKER_04I don't know why it makes you wonder. I think he um well he was fighting um he's coming off a torn ACL, I think it was. Oh, there we go. That could be it. Um, I think. Um we'll check on that. But um I I thought the same thing. Uh like when I asked, because obviously when I seen that we signed unrestricted free agents and all that, and I was like, Jeff, who's this guy? Because obviously he's from Alabama. He's like, he's a I I'm he said, I'm surprised he ain't got drafted. Even if it was the later rounds, but he was like, I'm surprised he did not get drafted.
SPEAKER_00Really?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So I don't know. We're we're gonna have to ask Jay Valdy though. We're gonna have to we're gonna have to get some information.
SPEAKER_00We will definitely get some information about him. So uh yeah, in a nutshell, uh that is um the birds draft.
SPEAKER_05Oh no. Congratulations to all those guys, all drafted and undrafted. Absolutely. Hopefully we get to see y'all at the first preseason. Yeah, make the best of your options.
SPEAKER_00Hopefully, we get to see you guys in week one, too. Even if we watch you on TV. Absolutely. You know, if you guys don't make it to week one, it's a problem. But uh yeah, uh, like you said, JA, congrats on getting drafted. Um I've I've been I've been lucky enough to been in a be in a few uh parties of people who have gotten drafted, and I can tell you it is one of the most exciting things in a person's life that they are able to live out their dreams. So even if you do not, you know, become a perennial all pro or all star or play in the league for 10 years, the fact that you got drafted when there are so many little I mean, shit, there's like you know, 275 players drafted, you got a shot. So kudos to you guys. Um we're gonna take a quick break and then uh we will uh wrap up our pod with uh A couple of questions that I wanted to ask the guys. We'll be right back. And uh we are back. So, fellas, we uh we just wrapped up talking about our uh 2026 draft class. The last thing I wanted to talk about was uh the elephant in the room that has been being talked about since the end of the final game last season, and that is Mr. uh A.J. Brown. As of right now, A.J. Brown, according to Hiya Roseman, A.J. Brown is still an ego. And uh he has not been traded, he has not been released. Uh there are a lot of rumors uh going around that he will end up uh somewhere in a house with Mike Brabell and Diana Roussini, and he will be a patriot. Uh maybe they'll adopt him, I don't know. But as of this point, June 1st.
SPEAKER_04That's what they say.
SPEAKER_00He's still an Eagle. Post June is when, post-June 1st is when he's uh allegedly going to be a patriot. So my my question is clearly the Eagles brought in what, three wide receivers?
SPEAKER_02Yes. Yep.
SPEAKER_00All right, so they brought in three wide receivers. And as we talked about earlier, the first thing we thought about when Makai Lemon was drafted was that was signaling the end of A.J. Brown. We talked a few minutes ago about whether or not he could stick around. I was 50-50 before. I wasn't really sure. At this point, I'm more like 75-25. I just can't see it. And it's something you just mentioned, which was scheme-wise. I'm not really sure at this point. He I'm not really sure he fits in the scheme at this point. My my question I I wanted to ask you guys is AJ Brown is one of the best wide receivers that has played in the NFL in the past 20 years. No denying that, no doubt about that, right?
SPEAKER_02Yep. But does he matter?
SPEAKER_00And the reason why I asked that question is I went back and I looked at the past 15 Super Bowl champions, right? And I'm gonna read out the Super Bowl winners, and I want you guys to tell me, because you should know them all. I want you guys to tell me whether these teams at the wide receiver spot were talent or stink. Okay. We'll we'll go back to we'll start at we'll start at Super Bowl 48, um, which was uh the Seattle Seahawks. Not sure if you remember that team or not. Uh their leading wide receiver was Golden Tate.
SPEAKER_02He had 890 yards.
SPEAKER_05Talent or scheme? Scheme. I mean, Golden Tate's a good wide receiver, but not the best in the world.
SPEAKER_02Right. Skeem? Skeem. Especially with the wide receivers that were also there with him.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_04Doug Baldwin. Doug Baldwin. Yeah. Tyler Lockett.
SPEAKER_00Skeem.
SPEAKER_04Scheme.
SPEAKER_00Uh a team that was uh a little bit unfair to even judge them because they were 90% defense.
SPEAKER_04Uh they had to do. Their defense was ridiculous. Right.
SPEAKER_00But we're just talking about the offense. We're not even we're not even gonna get into that. Scheme. Scheme. Sure. Okay. Uh Super Bowl 49. Uh New England Patriots.
SPEAKER_02Scheme, scheme.
SPEAKER_00You know scheme already, right? Uh leading wide receiver. Juline, I don't know.
SPEAKER_05It's gotta be Jules.
SPEAKER_00972 yards. All right. Super Bowl 50. One of my favorite one of my favorite players, may he rest in peace.
SPEAKER_02Uh Demarius Thomas. Scheme or talent? I gotta say talent. Trying to remember who else was there with him. West Walker. Yeah, well, I mean you had the you had the sheriff at the quarterback. But well, there's this ca there's a common denominator with those teams as well. Look at the quarterback. Yeah, okay. Russ. I'll give you that. Brady. I'll give you that. What would you say?
SPEAKER_00Peyton. This was the one that tripped me up the most. Peyton wasn't the Peyton that he was. No, he wasn't. But Brady was still Brady. I'm gonna I'm gonna lean. What do you say?
SPEAKER_05Uh I said talent. What do you say? I'm in the same boat.
SPEAKER_00You said talent?
SPEAKER_05Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00I I think we'll go around. I think it will go around the horn on this. I say talent because I like DT was one of my favorite.
SPEAKER_05Demarius Thomas. He was a doll. It was a doll. And like you said, Peyton wasn't Peyton.
SPEAKER_00So yeah. Um Super Bowl 51. New England Patriots. Again.
SPEAKER_05Scheme. Scheme. Any any Patriots team that's won Super Bowl scheme.
SPEAKER_00Julian Edelman.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_001100 yards. Although 1,100 yards isn't anything to snap at. I mean, I I it's still scheme.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we don't have to get into a team that is near and dear to us.
SPEAKER_00Super Bowl 52. The Philadelphia Eagles.
SPEAKER_02Scheme or talent? No, it's scheme. Because you had to change everything. Scheme or talent, Sammy? Scheme. Not go with scheme. Scheme. Alison Jeffries, he didn't even have 800 yards that year. He was a league in receiver. Definitely scheme. Uh goddamn Patriots again.
SPEAKER_05Scheme. They won the most, but they've also lost the most.
SPEAKER_00Skin.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. Leading receiver. Julian Edelman.
SPEAKER_00850 yards.
SPEAKER_04Three-piece McNugget.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I'm going to skip Super Bowl 54 because the numbers are wrong and I know they're wrong. So I'm going to go after Skipper Bowl 54.
SPEAKER_04It wasn't the. What was 54? I forget the winner. Was that the Rams?
SPEAKER_00Kansas City.
SPEAKER_04Kansas City.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they had the wrong person as the leader of the serial. Yeah. That had to be Cheetah, though, no?
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Oh, I'm sorry. They do have it. Tyreek Hill Scheme or?
SPEAKER_05I don't know. That's both. It's both. Both? No, that's talent.
SPEAKER_02That's talent. Yeah. Talent? Yeah. Tyree Kill. 860 yards. But yeah. I think that's yeah.
SPEAKER_00Super Bowl 55. Tampa Bay Buccaneers. TB12. Another Tom Brady team. Scheme or talent?
SPEAKER_05Talent. I take talent on that one.
SPEAKER_00I take talent on this one. Mike Evans.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely.
SPEAKER_00Only a thousand yards, but they were always impactful.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. And and no, I'm not going to get into it, but you had Chris Godwin also. Probably wasn't too far behind them either.
SPEAKER_00No, he wasn't.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Super Bowl 56. Los Angeles Rams.
SPEAKER_02That was the one against the Bengals. Yeah. Scheme or talent for Super Bowl? Uh. Scheme. Yeah, scheme. Talent.
SPEAKER_00I got talent on this one. Cooper Cup almost had 2,000 yards. Scheme got him open. Yeah. Scheme got him open.
SPEAKER_04I forgot. That's when he went bananas.
SPEAKER_001,947 yards. Triple crown year.
SPEAKER_04Yes. Yep.
SPEAKER_00Super Bowl 57. Kansas City Chiefs. Scheme or talent. Scheme.
SPEAKER_04Scheme. Was that when Tyreek went again? Oh no, Tyreek.
SPEAKER_00Tyres on the team. Uh-uh. This was this was closer to talent, to be honest with you. But I'll give him I'll give you a scheme on this one. Travis Kelsey, almost 1,400 yards. That was it. Had a tight end. That was it. That was it, though. You're right.
SPEAKER_02Um we're gonna go back to the Chiefs again. Two ball fifty eight. Scheme or talent. I'll go scheme again. I'm trying to think of who their top receiver was. Same guy.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_04Travis Kelsey. Alright, well, I took scheme on the last one, so I'd I'd take scheme again.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, scheme on the scheme. 984 yards. Yeah. You know who we're about to talk about next. Mm-hmm. Super Bowl 59. Scheme for talent. Talent. Talent.
SPEAKER_04Brother, there was yeah.
SPEAKER_00Talent. Yeah, it's talent on that one. Yeah, talent on that one. AJ Brown, 1,070, 179 yards.
SPEAKER_04179? 1,000? 1,000. And 79 yards. Gotcha.
SPEAKER_00Gotcha. Last but not least, uh, this year's Super Bowl champion, CLC Hawks. Scheme or talent?
SPEAKER_02Talent.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, talent. JSN is he might be the best wide receiver in the league. Absolutely talent. Um, he made Sam Darnold a Super Bowl champion.
SPEAKER_04Before Dak Prescott. Yeah. There's my Dallas shot. Every pot.
SPEAKER_00Nothing wrong with that.
SPEAKER_04No.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_04No.
SPEAKER_00So I I say that to say, and yeah, that's obviously talent. Does it in a in a vacuum can they replace his numbers with overall talent? As we saw the past 15 years, it seems like scheme wins over talent.
SPEAKER_04Over talent.
SPEAKER_00All right. So I also did something else that goes along with that. And that is overall yards of the last 15 Super Bowl champions.
SPEAKER_02All right. I'll start at number 15.
SPEAKER_00Um the Seattle Seahawks. Um they had the first iteration of the Seattle Seahawks. They had 5,424 yards. Next at 14 was the Patriots at uh 5,800 yards. The Patriots again two yards more than next Super Bowl that they won. Number 12 was the Kansas City Chiefs at 5,902 yards. Number 11, the Patriots again, 5,905 yards. There's a slight jump. Number 10 comes the Kansas City Chiefs at 6,067 yards. Number 9, our beloved Eagles, 6,099 yards. Number 8, Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 6,145 yards. Number seven. Oh, I'm sorry, I missed, I missed one. These these added a couple of other teams in there. These added 16 to 17. This went back 17 years. The New York Giants. The Super Bowl 46 New York Giants. How much catch? Yes. They had 6,360 yards. Then there's a slight jump to the Rams at number three. 6,546 yards. This year's Seattle Seahawks. 6,556 yards. And the Birds. The number one offense in the past 30 years are Philadelphia Eagles. 400 yards more than the next team. At 6,916 yards.
SPEAKER_02Almost 7,000. Almost 7,000 yards. That's only two years ago.
SPEAKER_00Now clearly we know what 2,000 yards of that was.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely.
SPEAKER_00You know? But the question still remains. What?
SPEAKER_05You scheme that.
SPEAKER_00You scheme that. So if we think is going to happen, happens, which is AJ leaves. You can't replace a talent like that. But can you scheme it? Can you scheme it? Sure.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely. And I mean, Smitty that was on the other side was a thousand yard receiver. Absolutely. And I think we've been talking about that too, though. That was a thousand yards and also favoring AJ Brown. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00No doubt. Um, and and that that's kind of my point. I I know a lot of people think the sky is falling if he leaves.
SPEAKER_04Like, doesn't number one matter. Doesn't number one matter.
SPEAKER_00And over time, it's clear that you can have a number one in name only, but I mean, if you got a guy that's not even getting 900 yards, you can still win the Super Bowl. Yeah. Those other guys got to have 700, 800. Yeah. You got to have strong Renegan. They all got to be close. Yeah. They all have to compliment each other. So I'm just saying that to say, Birds fans, yeah, we saw what AJ did. But if he goes, and there's more than likely he is, they can still do this without him. Absolutely. The sky's not falling. We can still make a run, and it might look different. And quite honestly, it might look better. If they're able to do what we think they're going to do with the guys that they brought in, it could look more dynamic. There have been plenty of times, even when they won, when it was just like five-step drop or not even under center, shotgun, pistol, throw the ball down the field. AJ's down there somewhere. Smitty's down there somewhere. AJ Brown deep ball. How many times did Smitty make a catch? You'd be like, God damn, how do you make that catch? A lot, right? So it might look different, but it might look better. But I think that we can survive the uh the loss of AJ Brown. If we didn't have Smitty, I would think differently. But there were weeks when AJ was pounting and Smitty was doing. Didn't say his thing, and he was he still did his thing.
SPEAKER_05When AJ was out, Smitty balled out.
SPEAKER_00Yep. So I think as long as we have him, I think we'll be okay.
SPEAKER_04Let's look to the other side real quick.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_04Just for shits and giggles. Let's say all this media rah-rah shit is just out there for media and attention.
SPEAKER_02What if we do somehow keep AJ Brown?
SPEAKER_04And they run, even though we have a lot of wide receivers in the room. They can still come into the season with a five wide receiver room. AJ Devontae.
SPEAKER_00Gotta get rid of somebody.
SPEAKER_04Lemmon.
SPEAKER_00Hollywood and Wix.
SPEAKER_04Hollywood and Wix. I mean.
SPEAKER_00That's a lot. They gotta get rid of somebody.
SPEAKER_04And I think it would be Hollywood Brown. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I agree.
SPEAKER_04I mean, we didn't sign him to a crazy amount. I mean Wix was more than than what Hollywood Brown was, but we also traded for Wix.
SPEAKER_00I mean, technically, I think the way it works is that Hollywood Brown ain't really got no money yet anyway.
SPEAKER_02Like they can they can get out of that deal pretty easy if they need to.
SPEAKER_00So AJ, if he I mean, by some chance that he stays, AJ.
SPEAKER_04What did we have last year? Four or five? I want to say we had five wide receivers. Yeah, Johnny Wilson. Yeah, but he didn't play because he was hurt.
SPEAKER_00He sued up a couple times, right?
SPEAKER_04But he was on the team. Johnny Wilson? No. He was out all last year.
SPEAKER_00Was he?
SPEAKER_04Yes.
SPEAKER_00Nah. Johnny Wilson played a couple games. Where were you at?
SPEAKER_04I don't think so.
SPEAKER_00All right. We'll maybe.
SPEAKER_04All right, anyway, so AJ Devontae, John Dotson, Cooper.
unknownCooper!
SPEAKER_00I forgot about him.
SPEAKER_04And that's what I'm saying. I don't all right. We'll figure it out if Wilson played. But Darius Cooper played. We still have five wide receivers last year that we brought into the season. Right. I can't see if somehow, you know, this doesn't go through. I can't see why we wouldn't have those five. I agree. Yes, Cooper, you know, Cooper, he's young. He's a young talent. He started a few games last year. Um, but a lot of people would have to be cut for sure. Yeah. A lot. Um but could you imagine like that wide receiver group? AJ, Devontae, and Lemon. Just say those three.
SPEAKER_05AJ would have to really get over himself. Yeah, he really would.
SPEAKER_00I can't say he I I can't say that. Man, I I used to didn't think this about him, but there's certain parts of the things that he's been doing.
SPEAKER_05I mean, when Schmidty had a career day in Minnesota, what did he do? He went and posted on Instagram, they used me, but they didn't use me.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, weirdo shit like that, man.
SPEAKER_05Why are you hating on your brother? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I don't know, man.
SPEAKER_05I but all I mean, all inclinations are he's he will be treated.
SPEAKER_04Johnny Wilson did not play a snap last year. No. No. He got hurt in preseason five.
SPEAKER_00That's right. Yeah, you're right. That's why we that's why you want to pause, Sammy. And I've been and I've been drinking.
SPEAKER_04But that's what we were I mean, last year we were kind of hoping that he wasn't gonna play. I mean, we're we were talking about him when he got drafted two years ago. Yeah. Six six frame, you know, a big wide receiver. Absolutely. And he didn't. That's why Cooper took over. And you know, but yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Is it I mean, we'll we'll I mean I'm just saying that's like we're in we're in May now, so we'll find out in about 30 days whether he's gonna be here or not.
SPEAKER_04Um here's my question. What do you if he is trading like they've been talking about, what do we what is how we shoot for to get back from him? I think I I mean I'll go first.
SPEAKER_02I think he's gonna be a first, a second, or a third, and I think he wants a player.
SPEAKER_00So I agree, but I'll throw something else out there which sounds a little insane, that wouldn't make sense for them. For the Eagles? No. For the Patriots. For the Patriots. Okay. And and I'm not completely sure that that's the end-all to be all place that he's gonna go. There's other teams that can use him that would be able to trade some things for him. Um but if we're just talking about the Patriots.
SPEAKER_04No, we're not talking. And I want to hear what you're thinking.
SPEAKER_00I I think that there isn't there's a chance that Kansas City jumps in the mix here. And they could envision a wide receiver room of him and Xavier Worthy as something that they can a Super Bowl win.
SPEAKER_02Him. Rasheed Rice.
SPEAKER_00And Xavier Worthy.
SPEAKER_04And Xavier Worthy.
SPEAKER_00That's a damn good three. Yeah. And knowing What I know about the Eagles organization, they would much rather do that than send on the two English to New England just because of the respect they have for Andy Reid. So I'm not saying that's going to happen, but quite honestly, it would make more sense for AJ Brown. I would rather play with Patrick Mahomes than Drake May.
SPEAKER_04Absolutely.
SPEAKER_00Travis Kelsey's on his way out the door. Like, you dum, you be the man. Like, why wouldn't you want to do that? If I'm going to force your hand somewhere, I get it. I know he likes Mike Brable. I understand all that. But football-wise, if you wanna if you wanna be the best football player that you can be, that's the place to go. They don't throw the New England throw the ball all around the field. I don't care if they even have you. They're not you're not getting 15 targets a game in New England. Yeah, I mean, you could get that in Kansas City with Patrick Mahomes.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and I mean I I I agree with you because you look at Drake May. I mean, you lost Stefan Diggs. I mean, you got Booty. Kayshawn Booty. I mean, it's like you're gonna go there. I mean, yeah, you're gonna be the number one, but it's I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_00You think he was getting coverage rolled to you when you got Devante on the other side of you? Exactly. What do you think it's gonna happen now? Ain't worried about them. Exactly. You ain't gonna see nothing but double teams.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I mean, Kansas City is probably the smarter.
SPEAKER_00It's the better football move. Whether that happens or not, I don't know. But football-wise, it's the better move.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, enough of that. He didn't start averaging a thousand until he came here.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. And I think that's what happened. I think he I think he saw those two years, those 1,400 yard years, and was like, oh yeah, this is the guy I was always meant to be. But obviously he's a professional. He's gotta know this, but there's a lot that comes with that. There's a reason why that happened with you. It's not just you that made that happen. Yeah, you caught the ball, but how'd you get open? What why were you single covered?
SPEAKER_04Talk your shit.
SPEAKER_00You know what I'm saying? There was a reason why.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You know, it it just isn't because it wasn't like you was out there calling your own plays and running your own routes and like you were throwing the ball to yourself. Like, there's a reason why. So I like AJ as a as a person. I I think that he might, as much as I tried to say that he didn't, I think he might have some diva in him. Oh, we'll see what happens. If he's able to salvage this and come back, or he has an epiphany like, shit, this might be the best place for me, I'm all for it. But if not.
SPEAKER_02If I'm not, I I I released Tariq Woolen and I asked for Christian Gonzalez.
SPEAKER_00That's what I do.
SPEAKER_02Word up. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00That's that's that's what I do. You want him? Let me see how bad you want him. Fuck a pick. Straight up. Give me Christian Gonzalez. I'll go into next season on Christian Gonzalez, Queenon Mitchell, and Cooper Dejean. Good luck. Good luck.
SPEAKER_02Shit, I move willin' a fucking pre-safety. Good luck. With that, well, we we're gonna wrap it up.
SPEAKER_00But before we wrap up, I got one final question. On paper, did the birds get better?
SPEAKER_02Yes. Yeah. Yeah, you got better? Uh-huh. Absolutely. I think I think so as well. I think they got better. I think there was uh Howie did a masterful job in the draft.
SPEAKER_00And uh got younger. Got younger, um, shed contracts, uh, saved some money and got better. You can't ask for much more um from a team. They know they have a window. They're trying to extend that window, and I can't see why they haven't. So we shall see. What a pod. What a pod, yeah. Um, this was great. Welcome back. Welcome back. Good shit, boys. It's good to be back, fellas. Uh we'll uh we we're gonna we're gonna pull an we're gonna pull another one out. Uh let's let's do one after June 1st.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you probably won't hear us till after June 1st.
SPEAKER_00But we're we'll we'll we're gonna we're gonna come back together to to talk because we still gotta we gotta um tackle the uh the the guys in powder blue. We we we had a lot to talk about with them, so we haven't we haven't done another one since then. So boy, it's been an interesting month. Yeah, boy. So a couple in a in a in a couple weeks, I think we'll come back and talk about them. And uh who knows? Uh maybe maybe we'll have to do uh uh 15-20 minutes on another team that's uh about to start playing and when it's playing now. So with that, guys. Good shit as always, man. I loved it. Great work. Yeah, man. Uh we'll talk to you guys soon, and uh, we're gonna get out of here like we always do. Go birds. Go birds.
SPEAKER_03Go birds, dickhead.
