Greed doesn’t always show up with dollar signs. Sometimes it hides behind ambition, hustle, or “just one more.” But make no mistake: greed is soul rot. And Proverbs says it leads straight to poverty.
This is Wisdom and Wit, and I am your bible teacher, Chris Reighley. Today's scripture comes from the book of Proverbs chapter 28 verse 22 and it reads:
“A man with an evil eye hastens after wealth and does not know that want will come upon him.”
Proverbs 23 warns us not to envy the rich or long for their delicacies. It’s not an anti-success message—it’s a wisdom alert: greed is a trap.
Proverbs 28:22 exposes its urgency. Greed runs fast but ends empty. And worse—it blinds you to what you’re losing.
Greed makes you justify cutting corners. It numbs your compassion. It inflates your ego. And before you know it, you’re broke in ways money can’t fix.
God’s Word reminds us: chasing wealth without righteousness leads to ruin.
