Sometimes fear feels louder than faith. But what if the roar wasn’t the threat—it was the test?

In this episode of Wisdom & Wit, Bible teacher Chris Reighley walks alongside Christian in The Pilgrim’s Progress as he approaches Palace Beautiful, guarded by terrifying lions. He’s ready to turn back… until he hears the truth: “They are chained.”

Psalm 34:7 says, “The angel of Yahweh encamps around those who fear Him, and rescues them.” That means God’s protection is already in place—even when the enemy is making noise.

If you’ve ever faced circumstances that made you want to retreat, this episode reminds you: the lions can’t leap unless you leave the path. Stay close to your Shepherd. Stay centered on His truth.

The lions may roar, but they’re on a leash.

There are lions on the path. Bunyan said so. But there’s a secret the brave pilgrims know: the lions are chained.

They can roar. They can intimidate. But they can’t devour unless you leave the path.

This is Wisdom and Wit, and I am your bible teacher, Chris Reighley.

Today's scripture comes from the book of Psalm ,chapter 34, verse ,7 and it says

“The angel of Yahweh encamps around those who fear Him, And rescues them.”— Psalm 34:7

In The Pilgrim’s Progress, Christian approaches Palace Beautiful, guarded by terrifying lions. He nearly turns back in fear. But Watchful, the gatekeeper, cries out: “They are chained!”

So Christian walks through safely, as long as he stays in the middle of the path.

Fear is like that. The enemy uses lies to roar louder than reality. But Scripture tells us: we are surrounded by God’s presence, not just threats.

If God is near—and He is—then the lions of your life are under His leash. They can scare you, but they cannot seize you.

Let me ask you a question

  • What “lions” are roaring at you today?
  • Meditate on Psalm 34 and ask God to help you walk boldly in His protection.
  • Stay in the middle of the path—don’t drift toward danger.

Bunyan’s lions remind us: spiritual warfare is real, but so is divine protection. For more wisdom on walking forward in fear, visit ShoeLeatherGospel.com.

Let me pray for you today:

Lord, help me to walk by faith, not by fear. Thank You for the angel who camps around me.

Fear may roar—but it can’t pounce when you walk the narrow path.
