The Brave Shift: Conscious Leaders Go First
For leaders who are done pretending the old systems are still working — and ready to decode what’s actually running the show.
What used to work just isn’t anymore. At work. At home. In the mirror. You’re not falling apart. You’re outgrowing the container. This is where that conversation lives.
Hosted by Anik Malenfant, Inner Work Strategist — where capital markets precision meets the inner work, and the pattern running your leadership becomes the strategy that transforms it.
The leader who goes first changes everything.

You already knew the answer. But you paused. You softened it. You waited. That wasn't losing authority — that was handing it over. Today, we take it back. Permanently. A guided pattern install to retire the authority handoff pattern and lead from sovereign leadership.
You're in the meeting. You already know what needs to be said. But you wait. You reword it. You check the room first. And afterward — that subtle frustration sits in your chest. The frustration is that you didn't lose authority in that moment. You handed it over.
This episode is different from every other episode in the season. We're not talking about the pattern — we're resetting it. This is guided subconscious reprogramming using the same six-step methodology Anik has used to help hundreds of leaders shift patterns that had been running for decades — often in a single session.
A structured install that retires the Authority Handoff Pattern and replaces it with sovereign leadership — the version where your authority never leaves you, not for anyone, not for anything.
This episode needs you present. Not driving. Not mid-task. Eyes closed when we get there. Feet on the floor. Pen and paper nearby. The work happens in the container.
IN THIS EPISODE:
— Why "just release your self-doubt" fails, and what your subconscious actually needs to let a pattern go
— The methodology I've walked hundreds of leaders through to break through patterns held for decades often in a single session.
— The germination chamber metaphor: why the container that protected you now suffocates you
— The two paths to every virtue: same destination, different cost — The exact phrase that makes your subconscious say yes to the install
— We create an anchor that becomes your way back when the old pattern tries to resurface
— The side-effects warning: what starts rubbing you the wrong way once sovereign leadership is running
MEMORABLE MOMENTS:
"The fear wasn't the problem. It was a solution, brilliantly designed for a world you've already outgrown."
"Your subconscious is not the enemy here. It's your most loyal and dedicated employee. It's just been using the only playbook it had."
"Your body desperately wants to heal. All you need to do is show up where you are."
"The inner work is the strategy for the outer success. Every challenge you're living in your outer world is seeded in your inner world."

— The Moment You Handed Over Your Authority
AnikYou're in the meeting. You already know the answer, but you pause, you soften it, you reword it, you wait. And afterward, that subtle frustration, it sits in your chest. That frustration is because you didn't lose authority in that moment, you handed it over. Today, we take it back permanently. Hey, welcome to the Brave Shift. Conscious Leaders Go First. I'm Anik Man Alphon. And if you're a leader who's done everything right and something still isn't working, at work, at home, in the mirror, you are in the right place. I spent over a decade on capital markets and the last 15 years decoding the invisible pattern, running your leadership, your relationships, and your results. This is where the inner work becomes your strategic edge to master your outer world. Let's get into it. If you've been with me for the last two episodes, you know the pattern. You've watched it operate. You've named the sphere underneath it. And if this is your first time here, that's fine too. You don't need the backstory. You need the scene I just opened with. Because that scene is the pattern. And if that scene feels familiar, even if it's at a dinner table and not in a boardroom, you're in the right place. Today is different from every other episode. And I would say different from what you would get from a normal podcast. Today we aren't just going to talk about the pattern, because listen, we can do that until the cows come home and you will not move the needle. Today we are going to do something about it. Now, just a few things about the container before we begin. This episode needs you present, not driving, not navigating the highway, not mid-task. So if you're behind the wheel right now, bookmark this and come back when you can sit down. Here's my standard disclaimer: do not do this while operating heavy machinery. Because what we're about to do works best when you can close your eyes. Closing your eyes is a powerful mechanism. When you close your eyes, you disengage the part of your brain that's scanning the outside world and you give your subconscious direct access. That's where the inner work lives. So when we get there, you'll want to close your eyes. Headphones in, if you have them, feet on the floor, pen and paper beside you, so that you have the option of writing something down instead of letting it bounce around in your head and distract you. What I'm about to walk you through is guided subconscious reprogramming, the same six-step process that I've used to help hundreds of leaders shift patterns that have been running for decades, often in a single session. The subconscious is extraordinary. It doesn't need years to change, it needs the right conditions. And together we're about to create them. So take a breath, a real one. Not that polite shallow inhale that you do when someone tells you to take a breath. All the way down. Like you mean it. Good. Now let's go inside. Close your eyes and soften everything. Feels where your body makes contact with the world right now. The chair or the floor, the weight of your own physical self. The ground beneath your feet, solid, neutral, doing its job without needing permission from anyone. Take a breath. And another. Now here's where we start. And this is different from what you might expect. We're not starting with a problem, we're starting with a pull. Feel into the area of your life where you're being called to step into leadership, where you're being called to claim your space. Maybe it's in the boardroom, maybe it's the conversation at home. The arena doesn't matter. The pull does. Imagine yourself leaning into that, claiming that space, stepping into the position of authority in your own life, leading the charge, being your own advocate, advocating for your value, for what you want to create, for what you know to be true. Just imagine it clearly. Having the hard conversation, making that bold statement, declaring your worth, advocating for what you need in order to thrive. Got it? Good. Now hold that image. Here's what happens next. And this is easy to miss if you're not paying attention. When you first imagine yourself claiming that space for a nanosecond, sometimes just a spark, there's a lift, an awakening, a yes. And then almost immediately after, the subconscious responds. Right behind that spark, for most people comes the pressure, the stress, the overwhelm, the doubt, the hesitation. That's the authority handoff pattern. That's the flinch. Now, before we locate it, one thing. I don't want you to worry about getting the exact perfect terminology. Last episode, I shared the five underlying core fears, but maybe for you it shows up as overwhelm or stress or resistance. And that's the language you have. And that's exactly where you should start. What we're going to do is reprogram your neurology, and that includes your language patterns. The way you articulate this in your words is exactly what makes this so powerful. Your body, it desperately wants to heal. All you need to do is show up where you are. What's fun is that this work meets you exactly where you are and moves you forward. So don't worry about doing this perfectly. Start from where you are and grow from there. Now, nice deep breath. And let's ask your body to show you where that flinch live, that fear, that pressure, that overwhelm, that anxiety. Where does it live in your body, that thing that's holding you back from claiming full authority in your life? Just notice what comes up for you. Maybe it's pressure in your chest, a weight in your shoulders, a tightness in your throat from all those words that you've swallowed, all those times that you were quiet. And sometimes the subconscious is a sneaky sucker. It'll just show up as a distraction in your mind because it doesn't even want you to recognize where you're carrying it. Just bring your focus back to your breath. Be open, receptive, and curious. Just notice. Pick the one that pinged first when I said it. Here's the thing about this pattern. Most of us have been dragging this anchor for so long, we've gotten used to the weight of it. It's a low hum. You don't even notice it moment to moment. But it's like a slow leak in a tire. You don't feel it on the highway, but overnight, flat. That slow leak has been draining your life force the whole time, depreciating what you can create for yourself even when you couldn't feel it. So take one long deep breath. And notice how it feels. Do you feel constricted? Heavy? Is it difficult? And if you were to give that feeling a name, what would it be? Fear? Overwhelm? Tension. If it were to tell you the story of what it is, is it uncertainty? Lack of clarity? Is it doubt? Whatever words come up first, whatever feelings, sensations, or emotions, don't edit. Trust it. That's your body telling you where this pattern lives. Just keep observing without any judgment. Good. That's your pattern. And that's what we're here to unwind today. Now, one more question before we go even deeper. And this one matters. So just be open and receptive. How old is this pattern? How long has this been running in the background in your life? And maybe it's ageless. It just feels like it's always been there. Or maybe a number comes up for you. It feels like you're seven, twelve, sixteen. Maybe you even get a flash of a specific moment, a classroom, a dinner table, a job interview. Now don't go back into that story. We're not here to rehash. We're just here to notice how long has this pattern been at play. Feel the weight of that number, whatever comes up. That's how long this part of you has been running this old story alone in the background while you built a life on top of it. Now you know what you're gonna let go of. And you know how deep it goes. That version of you who first learned to hand authority away, they adapted intelligently. This wasn't weakness, it was precision in a world where claiming authority had a cost you couldn't afford yet. Now, here's why people get frustrated with inner work and think it's this long, difficult process. Because you'll hear, just let it go. Right. Easier said than done. So either you keep sparring with it or it works temporarily and then the pattern comes back louder. Because you're trying to release the whole thing, and the subconscious will fight with everything it has. Why? Because the wisdom, the strength, the lessons that you've developed, they're entangled with that pattern, with that strategy, with that fear. You worked really hard for those virtues. Your subconscious is not going to let you throw them out with the pattern. So we're going to unravel them. We're going to keep the good stuff and release the old strategy. Because your subconscious doesn't think good and bad. It thinks, what keeps me safe? What do I mean by that? If for years you've been doubting yourself and then overcoming that doubt, and through the overcoming, you built real confidence, real strength, real discernment, your subconscious made a note of that. And that note says, self-doubt keeps us safe and it builds confidence at the same time. It thinks this strategy works. Now, I know that sounds backwards because from the outside, obviously, self-doubt is painful. Nobody wants to doubt themselves. But your subconscious doesn't file things under painful or pleasant. It doesn't work that way. It files them under this keeps us safe. That's how the hierarchy of priority works with the subconscious. And here's what's wild that strategy has been working. You're more confident than you were 10 years ago. You are more discerning. Exactly. It is better. And that's the trap. Because improving on a broken model takes forever. I know I've done it. To get to where you actually want to go, switching to a new strategy, that's how you make the quantum leap. So when you hear just relieve self-doubt, well, your subconscious panics because it hears release the only strategy that's been keeping us safe. And it refuses loudly. That's why inner work fails a lot of the time. People try to delete the pattern without understanding how the pattern is serving them. It's like trying to reboot your computer when you have software running in the background. The system just says nope, requests denied. You can't force quit your subconscious. You have to install a new strategy first, something that will serve as a safety net before your subconscious is willing to release its death grip on the only way that it's ever known. And that's what we're about to do. Just remember, your subconscious is not the enemy here. Sure, it might be running a self-sabotaging pattern, but it's actually your most loyal and dedicated employee. It's just been using the only playbook it ever had. And today we're going to give it a new one. So let's look at what this specific pattern has built in you. So go back and reconnect to it, where you noticed it, and ask, how did this fear keep me safe? How did it make me stronger? How did it develop my judgment? What did it force me to overcome? And in that overcoming, what did I learn? What did I gain? Who did I become? And in your battle with this pattern, what did you actually build? Let me give you some examples to prime the pump and let your mind find your own. Just see what comes up. If your fear was being wrong, maybe build precision, discernment, the ability to think 10 moves ahead. Maybe you're someone whose word means something because you've never said anything lightly. If your fear was loss, maybe built loyalty, depth, presence, someone who cherishes what you have, who shows up fully, who loves carefully and well. If your fear was judgment, maybe built compassion, consideration, a mind that thinks about how words land before they leave your mouth. Feel into those. See what comes up for you. Now, whatever came up, those are yours. The fear didn't give them to you, the overwhelm didn't give them to you, the stress didn't give them to you. But the conditions it created forced you to develop them. If anything, that part of you is the most overworked and undervalued employee in your team. So before we do anything else, let's pause. And let's acknowledge this part of you. And you can say this silently or out loud. Thank you. I see what you've built. I see you've been trying to keep me safe. I see how hard you've been working. And from now on, we move together as a team. Feel that land. Don't rush it. That part of you has gotten you this far. We're grateful. It's taken hits for you. Now it's time to promote it with new training. But we're not releasing the fear's wisdom. We are releasing the strategy. So the discernment, you keep it. The loyalty, you keep it. The thoughtfulness, the resilience, the depth, every single thing that that pattern built in you, we're going to keep all of it. What you're releasing is the delivery method, the strategy, the handing off, the disempowerment, the waiting permission, the making yourself small for the room before anyone asked you to. And this isn't about becoming someone else. It's about recognizing how often you've been handing off something that was always meant to be yours. Think of it like this the old pattern is like a germination chamber. You know, those little plastic boxes we put seeds to start them in. They create the perfect conditions for the seeds to germinate. Protected, controlled, humid. But the moment those first leaves unfurl, you have to take the cover off because the same. Container that enabled germination becomes the very thing that suffocates the seedlings. It's too much humidity, not enough airflow, construction. Same thing for you. So that old pattern was your germination chamber. It got you here. But now it's time to lift the lid. And we're not casting that part of you away. We're promoting it. And here's what's fun about the subconscious. There are two paths to every virtue. You can develop confidence through being supported, surrounded by people who see the best in you, having that reaffirmed to you. Or you can develop confidence through constant doubt, constantly having to prove yourself. Both work, same destination, different cost, different scenery. What's fun is you get to decide what strategy you want to use to develop those virtues going forward now that you're aware of them. I know it's odd to think, but the subconscious doesn't know you'd prefer the first path, the fun one, the uplifting one, unless you install that pattern. And that's what we're going to do next. So here's your choice point. You've been using the old strategy. Let's call it the hardship strategy for a long time. Self-doubt to build confidence, pressure to build strength, fear to stay safe. Sure, it's been working. It's also been exhausting. There's another path to every single one of those virtues. The same destination reached through positive supportive means, through self-trust, through knowing, through claiming. You don't have to choose between them intellectually. The subconscious chose the hardship path because it was the only one it knew at the time. Today, we are giving it a new one to choose. And before we install the new pattern, let's take one last breath with the old one. Feel it. For you, it might feel like you're bracing. You might feel the weight of it. You might feel what it's been costing you. You've also brought to your awareness what it's given you. Now here's the question. And you're gonna want to say yes out loud to let the subconscious know you mean business. Would you like to keep developing all the good stuff, the courage, the strength, the discernment, the confidence, the leadership through positive supportive means from this point forward without needing the fear, the pressure, the overwhelm, the doubt to get you here any longer? Now your breath is your portal to the subconscious. So take a nice long deep breath and say yes out loud. Say yes, like you're clicking okay on that software install box because that's exactly what you're doing. You're telling the subconscious directly, I'm open, I'm ready to release the old pattern, I'm ready to install a new strategy. Your subconscious needs direct instructions. That's how the install works. Now take a deep breath. Some people notice the recalibration right away as we plant the seed. We're allowing the new strategy to come in. And as you breathe, notice that space that just opened within you. Let's bring in the wisdom feeling and embodiment of sovereign leadership. Allow that to resonate with every cell in your body and every atom of your being. Not for anyone, not for anything. You bring forward all the wisdom. This protective part built, the discernment, the thoughtfulness, the care for impact, and you lead from complete internal authority. Now feel that energy of sovereign leadership, feel it through your entire body. Notice it as its own frequency, different from the old pattern. Notice how it's more stable, more settled, more steady. And anchor in that feeling, that energy, then sensation. Let that new pattern continue to dissolve that old story. Letting every breath settle it deeper into your cells, into your energy, into your body, into who you know yourself to be. Breathe it in. And with each and every breath, you can feel that energy of sovereign leadership expanding into all that you are. And that's what you just chose for yourself. That's what's running the show now. So press your feet into the floor, both feet, full contact, and let yourself anchor this in. Your way back to sovereign leadership whenever the old pattern tries to resurface. Let yourself remember this anchor. When you feel that old pull towards the handoff where you're finding yourself about to check or soften or wait for permission, feet on the floor, connect back to that hum, to that energy, to that frequency of sovereign leadership. And ask yourself one of these questions. Pick one that resonates to you. Am I really leading my life in this moment? Am I claiming authority over it? Are these the thoughts of a sovereign leader? What would a sovereign leader choose right now? Pick the one that lands for you. That's your question. Five seconds, anywhere. The old handoff strategy is retired. Sovereign leadership is installed. And every time you choose to lead from sovereignty, every time you come back to that hum, the new pattern gets stronger, more natural, more a part of who you simply are. You are a sovereign leader. You always were. Like a powerful wave rippling outward all the way to the edge of your personal universe. Every corner of your life is now touched by this frequency. Now, slowly, when you're ready, open your eyes and bring that power into the space with you. And here's what I want you to know about what just happened. What shifted in here is permanent. It's not a promise. That's how the subconscious works. You're going to integrate it at your own comfortable pace in a way that feels right for you. But you have said yes to a new agreement with yourself today. And over the next few days, you're going to notice awareness. You're going to notice shifts. And they often appear so subtly that you'll just notice yourself responding differently to a situation. And it might even surprise you because the subconscious works under the surface. It shows up in your reactions, in your automatic habits. All you need to do is keep your eye on the goal. Stay focused on sovereign leadership by asking yourself regularly through the day. Am I showing up as the sovereign leader of my life? Or am I letting old patterns run the show? Start with a question. Because when you ask questions, your brain turns itself inside out to show you the answer. That's not metaphysics, that's cognition. Ask the question, the answers show up. Now, I didn't say this before, but here is my disclaimer, and this is important. The stuff that you used to just put up with, the things that never really bothered you before. Sorry, not sorry. The reason they're rubbing you the wrong way is because you shouldn't have put up with them in the first place. But that's just the way things have always been. So your nervous system, file them away under normal. But now that you're claiming the role of sovereign leader of your life, things are going to surface. And yeah, change can be uncomfortable. And that's what next week's episode is there to support you with. We look at what actually happens in the rooms you walk into when the five fears start releasing. Because sometimes it's subtle and sometimes it's not. And some of what changes you won't expect. And some of changes you're going to be thrilled about. One more thing before we close. I would love to hear what shifted for you today. So come find me on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, send me a DM. Tell me what surfaced for you. What came up? What opened up? Ask me questions if something came up that didn't make sense for you. Because you are what makes this work matter to me. I look forward to your messages and I promise I read everyone. Now, the new pattern, it's anchored in now. So notice how you're already recalibrating to that integration. Your system is settling into a new frequency. So let's keep that momentum going. And you can deepen that work with the breakthrough blueprint assessment if you haven't taken it yet. Head over to ascensionacademy.life forward slash quiz. Takes about two minutes and it tells you which of the four pillars is running your specific version of the authority handoff pattern. Because the fear of being wrong is rooted in a different pillar than the fear of identity loss. The way the pattern releases isn't the same for everyone. So just be patient with yourself and use that assessment to give you a map for your specific version. Here's what I would love for you to take forward with you today. The fear wasn't the problem, it was the solution. Brilliantly designed for a world that you have already outgrown. What's awesome is you get to keep everything it built in you. You just don't have to use its old strategy anymore. The inner work is the strategy for the outer success. Every challenge you're living in your outer world is seated in your inner world. And that's why this work matters. That's why we do it. So until next time, trust your intuition, take aligned action, and keep leading with soul. Thanks so much for listening. Our world is a better place because brave leaders like you are willing to go first. Now, send this to the leader who needs to hear it. You know exactly who that is. Until next time, trust your intuition, take aligned action, and keep leading with soul.
