22nd July 2007: The One Race Wonder That Stole The Show
On this day in Formula One history, a one-off gamble turned into a moment of magic. In this episode of Chequered Past, we revisit the 2007 European Grand Prix, where Markus Winkelhock, on debut for backmarker Spyker, surged from 22nd to 1st in the wettest of chaos-fuelled conditions – leading his only Grand Prix and etching his name into F1 folklore.
We also celebrate the birthday of Dorino Serafini, the only driver in World Championship history to score a podium in every race he entered – just one, but unforgettable.
Finally, we travel back to Brands Hatch in 1984, where Niki Lauda and Alain Prost went head-to-head in a classic McLaren showdown that shaped one of the closest title battles in F1 history.
It’s a day for the underdogs, the legends, and the one-race wonders who stole the show.
