25th September 1982: The Gamble That Paid Off for Rosberg
On this day in 1982, Formula One’s season of chaos reached its finale in the car park of Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. Keke Rosberg needed only a handful of points to clinch the crown — but with John Watson charging through the field, the title was anything but certain. We revisit how consistency, calmness, and a touch of Las Vegas luck made Rosberg World Champion.
We also celebrate the birthday of endurance racing icon Henri Pescarolo, a man whose name is synonymous with Le Mans, and remember the 2005 Brazilian Grand Prix, where Fernando Alonso became the youngest ever Formula One World Champion and ended Michael Schumacher’s reign.
From the car park gamble to the birth of legends, this is September 25th in racing’s Chequered Past.
