26th September 1999: The Chaos That Crowned An Unlikely Winner
On this day in Formula 1 history, the Nürburgring descended into chaos. The 1999 European Grand Prix was a storm of strategy blunders, sudden showers and shattered hopes—yet out of the mayhem came Johnny Herbert, delivering Stewart GP their one and only victory.
We also celebrate the birthday of Aldo Tim Schenken, look back on Lewis Hamilton’s 100th career win and Lando Norris’ heartbreak in the 2021 Russian Grand Prix, and revisit Estoril in 1993 where Damon Hill charged from last to third as Alain Prost claimed his fourth title and Michael Schumacher confirmed himself as the sport’s future star.
