Welcome back to Meta Zen. The mental martial art. The philosophy of life.

This episode introduces the Purple Belt.

I am your host and mentor, Marc Bubel.

Welcome. We're one belt away from the Black Belt for Meta Zen. We’re like a pilot coming in for a soft landing…so you can barely feel the touchdown…like that.

Remember from the Green and Blue Belts, a patron puts a stimulus into the world that creates cultural, intellectual and economic prosperity. Through their patronage, they help nudge a civilization into a golden age and keep it humming along.

Unfortunately, golden ages have yet to transform into The World’s Greatest Moonshot, which is civilization’s second harmonic. There is a missing piece of the puzzle and we’ll talk about it in this episode.

Remember Flow-State Ambition from episode 5. 

This episode is discussing a topic at the sixth level of Flow-State Ambition. Make sure you are free of distractions as much as possible and that you’re set to make notes in your journal. This episode will be like looking through a seam in the fabric of the present moment and we’re looking into our future. 

This is what life is like in the sixth level of Flow-State Ambition. We’re understanding civilization’s future and we're enabling the coming generations to launch beyond us.

Remember from episode 8, the patron is developing the artform of patronage. This serves the patron’s generation and becomes a model to follow by the coming generations.

This is where a shortcoming exists, however. In no time in history, has this model ever continued indefinitely. It gets derailed every single time. 

All this means is that patrons have another skill, another artform to develop. 

Through patronage, the patron is passing goodwill to the next generation. This is what we already know and it eventually fizzles out and the golden age comes to an end. 

The second gift patrons pass to the coming generations is wisdom. A wisdom that enables civilization to leave the status-quo world and achieve The World’s Greatest Moonshot.

This second gift is a variation of succession planning that forecasts out on a timescale of centuries to millennia. 

As this is a second artform, this is an opportunity to bestow a new title on the patron: visionary. 

A visionary is just a person who is pursuing the Black Belt, whether she realizes it or not. If she gives into narratives, she abandons the Meta Zen Path and joins the dark side of the force.

For clarity, there are charlatans that pretend to be visionaries. They paint a picture of an idealized world but they either do nothing to map it out or they show a map riddled with holes they pretend don’t exist. They’re very good at what they do. They’re so formidable that martial arts and meditation were invented. 

To understand this second artform, we’ll review the four progressive versions for a visionary:

A Visionary 1.o is someone who finds a successor who will fulfill the functional role the visionary had. This is conventional succession planning. 

A Visionary 2.o is someone who enables a successor to launch protégé’s beyond herself, which is someone who is also a Visionary 2.0. 

Unfortunately, enabling a single Visionary 2.o lacks the certainty the process will continue indefinitely. 

Therefore, we have Visionary 3.0. This is someone who enables many successors to also enable many successors. This offers us a high level of assurance the pattern will continue indefinitely.

Visionary 4.0

When we look deeply into the golden ages of our past, we sometimes find the visionary that kicked off the golden age. Like Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, Confucius and more.

Nicolaus Copernicus, for example, was the visionary that initiated the Scientific Revolution. He was a Visionary 3.0 as he is widely credited for starting the Scientific Revolution.

Then, pseudoscientific experimentation emerged, which was people crossing their fingers while thumping their chests saying they were scientists. This is what brought an end to the Scientific Revolution. 

To liberate science, the protégé-mentor relationship, Monkhood, the art of the patron, the less-is-more design philosophy and much more from their shackles, each needs a Visionary 4.0. 

A Visionary 4.0 is someone who anticipates the pressure of the status quo, which is the very thing that constrains progress and prevents golden ages from continuing indefinitely.
