Welcome back to another edition of the Dog Park Chronicle. You were one of the first people at the dog park. Absolutely. What do you remember about those early days? I remember how clean it was. Untouched and pristine. Nice. Not a wood chip, not a leaf, not anything. Was it crowded? Was it crowded? It started out very crowded, yep. And uh, you know, guru came here when he was uh watching him. About what was he, six months old? Something like that. Okay. Five months old. And he just you know, we've been coming here ever since. So and what what's the major changes that have gone on here? Uh I would say were the water fountains here? Water fountains? No, the water fountains were here, and the fire hydrants. And the fire hydrants. Um the outside uh water that wasn't there. They've added there used to only be two benches. There used to be a bench right at the gate, which turned out to be not such a good thing because really everyone gathered there too much. Oh, interesting. Yeah, that was uh if someone was sitting there, all the dogs would gather, and it just wouldn't be good at the beginning of the gate. And what about the stewardship? That's where the congregate signs came from. Okay, and what about the stewards? Because right now they seem to have a lack of stewards. Was there more of that going on? There was a lot more stewards than when it first started. So that was the initial volunteering, and then you know, they just you they're gonna. You volunteered? No, you didn't do it. I wasn't volunteering at the time. Okay. All right. Once I once I uh hit that multi-million dollar bet I'm gonna win. I'll be volunteering all the time.

I'll be here, I'll be installing lights and but now since you go both ways with Guru, which side would you be a steward on both?

On both, yeah. Because uh Guru can uh but none of these none of these exercises. Um no, they installed that very slowly. Just the um what do we call it? The uh little the step thing. Step thing was there, but the you know, the picture frame thing wasn't there, the uh the hoop that wasn't there, the cover for the one bench. Yes, that was a big thing to get. What else is new around here? Um any any people that were always here that you never see anymore. Oh yeah, there's many, many have passed on, unfortunately. Many dogs passed away. Many dogs and people have passed on. Yeah. Really? People too? Yeah. Wow. Okay, interesting. So the first person I remember here is um Bonnie, who has um a dog. Who's Bonnie? A big dog. Oh, Cooper! Cooper, who has Cooper. Oh, she was originally here with her previous dog. I have a video of the first day we were here, and I remember her walking her dog. So I will find that video and then we can upload it onto the Instagram page and uh Facebook or for that. So your Foxy was never here. Well, but I got Guru right after Foxy. Foxy passed away in 21 and then the park opened in 2022 in May. If I'm correct, yeah.

So when is Guru's birthday?

January 9th, so he just turned four.

Okay, because Bo's bur Bo just turned four, but that was the end of August. So there was the day. Right. And Lori and Cal used to come in the beginning too.

And then Sal started in the year first year. No, but the year after. Was Lori here day one? Day two, three? Pretty close, yeah. She was one of the original people. And yeah, there's still like Eric who just came with um Raven. Did they always have the last Thursday? Was maintenance day? Yeah. That was their that was always always their original thing. There wasn't as much maintenance to do back then in the first year because it was very clean. Was Carmen always the guy who ran this place? I think so. I think Carmen's always been on the board. Yeah, Tim and Tom Lincoln. Tom Lincoln. Okay. Carmen's still on the board, I believe. He's the sheriff, right? He's the sheriff. We call him the sheriff. I shouldn't say that. He'll hear it on the podcast.

What else can we ask Matt about the beginnings of the dog park? Oh my goodness. Was that hut always there? For the uh storage? Yeah, the storage is always there. Okay. Of course, there was a porta potty there.

And then they said, In the winters. The guru was always here. He's just so happy. Right, buddy? Guru, say hi.
