Years ago, uh, I have a younger brother who since passed, but uh had a younger brother who uh befriended a lady that uh from uh his church uh uh out in San Bruno, California. And one thing led to another, and they uh started dating. Um she had lost a husband herself, and he my uh brother, of course, lost his wife. But at any rate, uh one thing led to another, and it turns out this gal Nancy, who we were dating, turned out to be best friends with uh another lady by the name of Galen Brady, who just happens to be Tom Brady's mother. Uh Galen and Nancy grew up together in Minnesota uh and had known each other since they were seven years old. They became so close that Galen, uh one of their children, uh they named after Nancy. Uh they have a daughter, Nancy Brady, whatever, uh kind of thing. And she's I think a little bit older than Tom. In fact, when Tom Brady first got uh uh drafted by the uh uh Patriots, uh they let the daughter come back east with him uh so she could live in an apartment with him and keep the place clean because apparently he was a bit of a a little sloppy from time to time. But at any rate, uh what happened was uh there was an occasion, it was the beginning of the season, they were gonna be playing the Cincinnati Bengals. And uh this is when Tom Brady really became the superstar. He was it had been in the league about seven or eight years and was just uh uh you know just the goat, if you will. Uh and what happened was uh I got a call from my brother said, Listen, we're coming back east. We're gonna we're gonna be uh going to the ball game, and they have some extra tickets and uh on the 45-yard line, uh would you like to uh you and Kate join us? And I said, Of course, you know, uh kind of thing. So that's all I really thought about was that I had a couple of tickets, uh go to the ball game and mind my own business and go home. Well, as it turns out, uh we met the Brady's on Saturday, uh the day before the game, and we ended up doing the whole museum thing up at uh Patriot Square, the the Patriots Museum, I should say, and they have a kind of like a little adult recreation area on the and uh morning of my uh it was really kind of a fun day, and then we all split up. Well, the next day we uh uh we got to the stadium and we were invited to the Brady Tailgate party. Well, this uh Brady Tailgate party is like no other. Uh he had his own chef there, uh bartender, uh lots of people. I missed our guy style. Yeah, and and while we were there, uh Tom Brady Sr. comes up to me and he goes, Listen, Bill, he said we had a cancellation. Uh would you like to join us instead of on the 45-yard line? We grew up at our suite. Yeah, uh the our family suite, uh you know, just the suite at the state. Just the sweet. And it's like, yeah, I'm gonna say no to that, right? Take the 45 yard line. So so we ended up uh uh doing the tailgate, and uh it it the story just kept getting better. I mean we we go up to the suite, and here is this you know, beautiful suite, all all kinds of food laid out, and it turns out I found out that Tom Tom Jr. absolutely paid for everything. Nobody opened, you know, the parents never had a t uh pay a nickel for any of this stuff.

SPEAKER_02

They can probably afford it.

SPEAKER_00

Uh yeah, yeah, for sure.

SPEAKER_02

So any little change is fair.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so what kind of food? What kind of food? Oh, it was just uh, you know, your typical domestic uh, you know, it was like hot dogs at a bun, you know, stuff like that. But I remember the start of the third quarter, and they brought they brought in a dessert tray, the start of the third quarter, and it was like a three-tiered dessert tray. And it was like full of everything god-awful you could think of. Uh, but but it no, it was it was just terrific. And uh so it's you know, the game goes on, the Patriots win the game. Well, here the story gets better and better. You know, Tom Brady Sr. comes up to me after the game and he goes, Listen, we tend to get together at the players' dining hall downstairs. He said, Would you like to join us? Uh and my son, after his press conference, you know, will come in and say hello to everybody. And I said, Oh, sure, yeah. Like, I'm I I I'm I'm in Disneyland, you know, for an adult. But at any rate, after the game's over, uh, we go downstairs. Sure enough, we go into the players' dining room. And about uh I don't know, 20 minutes after we were there, here comes Tom Brady coming in, he's hugging all the little kids. He's just he's absolutely uh one of the most magnanimous people I think I've ever come across. I mean, what when I was introduced to him, you know, he he looked me dead in the eye, and you know, we're like this far apart, and we're shaking hands, and for like two seconds in my entire lifetime, uh I had his full attention kind of thing. He's that kind of a person. He really makes you feel at home. A real nice kid. And and uh so uh, you know, it was like Fantasyland from seats on the 45-yard line to the player suite. Oh yeah, the reason I got up in the player suite in the first place is uh uh Giselle had uh couldn't go to the game that that particular uh uh week because uh one of her kids got strep throat, so she stayed home with the kids. Uh so that's how we ended up getting upstairs. But uh man, what a what a what an experience that was. We had we had a great time. Uh the Brady family was just terrific. All their kids were quite nice, we've met everybody, and uh that's my story. What a great story.

SPEAKER_02

I would have loved to have been there. I love football, and I've Tom Brady, I just think is the best.

SPEAKER_00

You know, it is 2026 now, but you know, back in uh w when did it take place? It was the first year uh I hate to bring up the name Aaron Hernandez had been drafted. Oh, that was real early. Yeah, that was really exciting. So he was Brady was superstar status at the time, uh but this is quite a few years ago, and you know, the bloom was off the rose a little bit, but uh boy, it was it it it's something I'll never forget. You have great stories.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, you can. Yes, you do.

SPEAKER_00
