Weaponized Faith: The Danger of Using Scripture Against Each Other

Ebony Season 1 Episode 2

Send us a text

We explore the problematic trend of people using religious scriptures as weapons against one another instead of as tools for love and enlightenment.

• Religious debate has become divisive and competitive, especially on platforms like YouTube
• Many religious families struggle with respectful dialogue about different beliefs
• Using scripture out of context to attack others contradicts the core message of love
• Confrontational approaches to faith discussions create division rather than unity
• Most religious texts across traditions emphasize brotherhood, not division
• We should demonstrate faith through actions rather than arguments
• Leading with love and understanding allows for genuine spiritual growth
• The ultimate goal should be enlightenment, not proving others wrong
• True religion should bring people together rather than separate them
• We are all brothers and sisters regardless of which faith tradition we follow

Speaker 1:

Guys, welcome back to the Real Spill, where the spill can get too real. On today's episode, we're going to talk about Christianity versus everything, or everything versus Christianity, or love versus religion. That's the topic Love versus religion. Let's jump right into this. I have been sitting around, and you know, on the search for Christ and it's weird because I guess when you jump on this journey, right, excuse me it's because there's something inside, something inside of you is becoming so big it can't contain itself, or it feels like it's going to just like bust out of your chest. Or some say it's the feeling, like, of him calling on you, the seed being planted. You feel convicted, right. So for me, that, what tells me that, since the word says that that he's inside of you, right, like your body is the temple and God is inside of you. And we're just going to use those two things. If God is inside of you, why do I need you to search? So we're going to touch on that, the idea or the topic of when you go searching for God. You will find it, because I think that is like a really deep topic, for lack of better words, you know. So check it out.

Speaker 1:

On this search, you go to different churches, you visit friends' churches, you pick up new books, you watch new programs. You do whatever you can to educate yourself, right? Think of questions. You Google them, you YouTube them and along the way, I have this situation where everyone in my family is a different religion. I know so. We have Jehovah's Witnesses, we have Muslims, we have Baptists, we have Christians. We all question one another, right, and we try not to. We try to ask each other these questions with love, but are we, are we asking these questions with love, or are we asking these questions with our ulterior motive? Whatever the word, is that word, ulterior motive? Are we asking these questions with malice or hatred or some kind of derogatory feeling behind it? Right? So check it out. There are all these channels across YouTube where there are Jehovah's Witnesses versus Mormons and Mormons versus Christians and Christians versus Muslims and Muslims versus Hinduism. And why is there so many versus? I mean, is this like a rap show? Now we have taken this secular thing to a whole new level and as a Christian, it makes me question myself. I'm watching all of these programs where a Christian versus a Muslim and they are combating one another with Bible verses, and at first I was wrapped into it. I'm like, oh yeah, come on, brother, bring it on home, prove your point. And I watched these programs a couple of times down the Jehovah's Witness rabbit hole, the Mormon rabbit hole, the cult rabbit hole, the Christian rabbit hole, the Catholic rabbit hole, the Muslim rabbit hole, and there's like all these weird channels like One Message Foundation, carlogic, apologia Studios, testify and so forth.

Speaker 1:

Right, these people are making content off of weaponizing the scriptures and they say it's like an all good, but it is not. You're not informing, you're not enlightening, you're not sharing faith, hope or love. But more so, it comes out with malice and disdain because you are embarrassing me, you are belittling me, you are telling me that my search to find has no value, that it doesn't stand on anything. So now I, in turn, must dig deep quickly, because I am on the clock here. You feel me, I am on a timetable, you have asked me a question and I think the whole concept of putting our brothers and sisters on the spot and questioning their faith and their understanding of their faith is more harm than good. It is not giving me enlightenment or peace or understanding. It is not dropping the seed in me that is being watered and grown into love and light and understanding, but rather disdain, malice, anger and hatred that someone would do that to me and then not even allow me the opportunity to defend myself or my love for my God or my religion.

Speaker 1:

So the question is, if we take scripture and separate them, what is that? What is it called? Because I don't believe anywhere did Jesus use a scripture and weaponize it against anyone. He didn't allow his prophets to take the scriptures and weaponize it against anyone, but rather show love and the understanding that God has for you. So, my brothers and my sisters, I ask you when you take scriptures and you separate them, what is it called? Is it like when we have excuse me another and we say no, no, no, no, no, you're taking the content out of context. Are we choosing to take content and weaponize it for more content, or to fuel self-gratification or your own self-doubts, to fill you up and not to fill up others? Are you using it to love thyself or are you using it to love thy neighbor as you love thyself and your God?

Speaker 1:

I hear this and it breaks my heart. It literally makes me break down with sadness that I would dare have to defend my God, something that is good, holy and pure, something that is consistent, something that you can't even wrap your understanding around. So how dare you make me? Try to make you understand? Why are we weaponizing religion and scriptures against one another? Because the scriptures have shown us repeatedly what the outcome is of trying to persecute and condemn and judge a brethren. If we separate the books of the Bible, what is that called? If we take these books from the Bible or we withhold these books from the Bible and we create our own, what are you doing? Brothers and sisters? I don't know myself, but I know what it said. I know if I think about it and hurt, I know my father does. The time and time, over and over, the Bible has shown us repeatedly how numerous of nations and generations have chose to praise and worship different gods and what the outcome has been.

Speaker 1:

We're so busy trying to force one another to understand one another instead of loving each other so that we may understand. The whole thing should be about attraction rather than promotion the way you carry yourself, the way you speak, the way you treat others, the way you treat yourself, the way you treat your family, the way you treat your adversaries, whether people call you fools or less informed, naive, crazy, whatever it is you individually are supposed to represent the God of your understanding. It is not your job or my job to make each other understand one another's God, but to show you what God has done for me. So my job is to show the good news, and not to just share the good news, but to show you the good news, no matter what you say or you do to me. It is not my job to judge you or condemn you or pass judgment or wrath or even vindication, or whether to love you through that. But whatever it is that we're going through, through that Because, as your God said, I am, and if he is, then it doesn't matter.

Speaker 1:

So why are we so busy trying to make it matter? Are you really gaining? Because a man that builds up his wealth builds up what? So when you lay down at night, are you filled with wisdom and understanding? That encourages you, or do you stay up all night in turmoil with plans and plots, schemes and scams? If we're using the scriptures against one another, what is that? Truly baffled and I'm truly hurt. We're running up on one another and threatening them because their personal space feel violated. You run up on them, attacking their character and their God. You're attacking their wisdom, their courage and their understanding. You're not instilling faith and understanding and I'm not here to judge them or condemn them. I'm just here to share my opinion and my feelings on how this is causing more harm than good, harmed than good. And will your God truly be proud of you? Because at the end, we're all going to be judged. We're all going to the same place, the good, the bad and the ugly, for the day of judgment, and the not so pretty and the pretty. We will all be in the same place.

Speaker 1:

As we go through our Bibles, we take scriptures and we utilize them to make a person understand or feel Like. Last week, I spoke on Job and I was only so passionate about it because I had been hearing everybody use Job on YouTube. Everyone's on YouTube and they're talking about the testimony and how good God was to them, and not reminding the people or sharing with them the actual trial that they had went through. Because we're suffering now, we're hurting now, we are attacking one another with scriptures. We're robbing people of faith, love and hope with scripture. We're dismantling faith with scripture. Do you guys understand that? So today it's not about calling out people or calling out false prophets or any of those things. It's about sharing God's word love, faith, discipline, obedience, basic instructions before leaving earth. It's just very basic.

Speaker 1:

These stories repeat themselves over and over in everybody's books Mormon books, koran Torah and Hinduism. Mormon books, koran Torah and Hinduism. The Koran states believers are but brothers. According to Fondation Oasis right, believers are but brothers. He made our friendship between your hearts so that you became as brothers. Like what are we not getting? I believe his name is like Sharamad Bhagavad. I don't know, I'm not good with all of these words. Sharamad Bhagavad. I don't know, I'm not good with all of these words. Sharamad Bhagavad Gita something, a universal soul resides in everyone. We are brothers and sisters. Regardless if God created man, we are brothers and sisters.

Speaker 1:

So again, I ask you, my brothers and sisters, truly, why are we weaponizing the scriptures? You can't tell me that we're not. We're so busy trying to make people understand right that you're no longer delivering a message. You are now the mess. You are not spreading the word about the end times. You are the end times Because my God promised me eternal life. Let's not keep people from the church. Can we spread the good news. Seek and ye shall find when I knock. Answer. Please be weary. Be weary in what you choose to say. The biggest thing he said to keep your tone People are running out to schools to learn theology and this and that and all of that to learn God.

Speaker 1:

To learn God to know God is to love, and he is already within you, practicing obedience, steadfast in his word and keeping his commandments. Despite how they make you feel, despite what you're going through, despite the circumstances, despite the trials, keep my commandments. So, whether you're mad or you're upset, you're burdened. You got heavy trials on your back. That does not give you the right to love, to disregard my faith.

Speaker 1:

Tell me that the word that I am believing in is not right because you chose to take one scripture and use it against me. You're weaponizing content, not the context. It is a whole, as God, jesus and the Holy Spirit is a whole. We separate things to weaponize things, but my God gave us himself in a whole and it doesn't matter who and who doesn't choose to acknowledge that. If you love your God, which represent love, unity, peace, hope, faith, then that's what we should be practicing all the days of our lives. It doesn't matter if you're going through a trial.

Speaker 1:

We need to speak freely and holy, holy, holy, not as you need to get out what you need to say, but you only need to be free of the word. Speak free of the word and nothing else. It is not my responsibility to tell you anything other than what God has said, and it is in the scripture, whichever scripture. So, when we deliver these messages, why are we not practicing? I hope you understand that, I hope you perceive it and if you do not, I love you. My brothers and sisters, I'm not here to preach, but I am here to share God's love and God's understanding and God's wisdom, and we don't need to weaponize scriptures to do so.

Speaker 1:

We should not be separating ourselves. I don't understand why we feel as if we need to separate ourselves because we're wearing blue shirts, yellow shirts, red shirts. It's crazy how we would separate ourselves in religion, right? Because I'm Baptist or you're Kojic and you're Muslim, you're white, I'm black, you're Asian, I'm Hispanic, you're Latino, I'm Mexican, you're Australian, you're Canadian, you're Ukrainian. Know, I'm Mexican, you're Australian, you're Canadian, you're Ukrainian, you're German. What's that? Russian? What is the difference between the religions? You're tall, I'm short. Some call it a perfect height, some are thick, some are thicker than others, some are small, some are smaller than others. So what's up with the religion?

Speaker 1:

Hatred will find itself anywhere. We condemn people for being short. We condemn people for being too tall. We condemn people for having big feet. We condemn people for being brown. We condemn people for being black. We condemn people for being white. We condemn people for being red. Like where does it stop? Because you guys have taken it too far, putting words on it like body shaming. No, you're being ugly While I'm just this. No, you're being ugly. I'm a Leo. No, you're being ugly. So why don't we just stop being ugly and start being kind?

Speaker 1:

Words that you are preaching, which are God's words through many of prophets, through many of leaders, and you use them with a vile tongue. You utilize them with your own message behind them Contempt. There's no way that you can tell me that you run out here on the streets and chase people down. I don't even care if they volunteered. You spring questions on them that God hasn't even answered for them yet, but you dare ask them.

Speaker 1:

Take some time to ask yourself these things before you go questioning your brethren, because it is your job to enlighten your brethren. It is your job to love your brethren. It is your job to protect and defend your brethren. It is not your job to say, hey, you slapped me in the face so let me slap you back in the face, or I just learned something new, so I'm so excited, I'm going to beat you down with it. I'm going to rob you of all of your morals, your ethics and your dignity and your principles, because I have just been enlightened. Because if I led with love, then the one thing I would want to do is enlighten, and if you're not enlightened, I wouldn't want to bring you down and I wouldn't want you to bring me down.

Speaker 1:

I would like to go on. I would like to be able to grow, to be better and if I am on the search, I would like the opportunity to be able to search freely and wholly, with good intent, with a pure heart, not because I am angry, sad and mad, not because I feel left out, not a part of forgotten, because ultimately, you're telling me that my God has forgotten me and that he has chosen you. We are all God's chosen people, whether we like it or not. It is our jobs to discipline ourselves for one another so that you may be presentable and acceptable to your God, which is holy, and the only requirement of you is to choose that. So are we choosing that? My brothers and sisters, if we take scriptures and separate them, are we practicing God's love? Do you find that as a part of weaponizing scriptures? And then why are we judging for the separation of books? Seeking, you shall find knowledge is key. Whether we choose these things are not enlightenment, honey. Choose enlightenment.

Speaker 1:

Let's stop condemning one another by choosing to educate and enlighten and share. Stop taking content out of context and weaponizing it for our own personal gain, our own personal good. And you say how do you get that? It's self-worth, it's self-esteem You're adding to your bank. Every single time you do that, even though I would disagree too sometimes, because I would assume, as a human being, when you lay down at night, the rotten smell of the demoralization of your being should be stinking. But if not, I'm not here to judge you, I'm just here to say please be better. Thank you, guys for tuning in to another episode of the Real Spill. Where we spill the real, we don't worry about what others really have to say, because greater are we in him than we are in this world. Thank you, good night and peace.
