Molly Anne & Stephanie break down a game that started so well: Ryan Gravenberch's goal, Rio surprising everyone in the starting lineup, and goalkeeper Marmee returning to make crucial saves. But Liverpool, once again, couldn't hold on — and the atmosphere around the club is getting tense.
This week's big debate: fan booing. Is it ever acceptable to boo your own team at Anfield? Molly Anne and Stephanie argue supporters always have the right to their feelings — but booing actively hurts the team. Stay silent if you must, but back the Reds.
They also take a hard look at Arne Slot's tenure — the pressure of succeeding Klopp, whether the club has become too reliant on data and metrics at the expense of instinct, and the swirling Xabi Alonso speculation. Is any of it warranted, or are fans being too quick to turn?

Yeah, for me, I've said it before, I dug some heat for it. I'll say it again. I just don't think unless you have done something like a crime against humanity, we just don't need to be booing our own team. You can be silent. You can you can not cheer. You can not clap. That is on you. I don't like the booing. I never will. There's never that anything that I'm gonna say like that is acceptable. And I wasn't there. I'm not from Liverpool. I love this club, you know, and I understand people have different perspectives. Have your perspective. Mine is you've got it back here, team. Hey everyone, welcome back to the Liverpool Girlies Podcast, a place where we welcome anyone who loves to obsess over Liverpool FC. My name is Molly Ann, and I'm here with Anica and Stephanie. We are three friends who share a love of Liverpool and dream of one day having a cup of coffee at the Axid Training Center coffee bar. Annika is away this week, so it's just me and Stephanie today. Steph, how are we doing on this Sunday morning?
SPEAKER_02We are doing great. Feeling good. I'm just having fun watching the rest of the Premier League kind of play out right now because there are still still so many open-ended questions. So that is where I'm currently finding my joy. Um, but yeah, it's been a really fun weekend. We've had lots of plans, and then we're gonna go see a rain game in a little bit. Seattle rain. It's our second Seattle rain game. So yes, very exciting. How are you doing?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, good. I think yesterday, well, I guess we'll get into how we watched the game, but I kind of thought maybe the outcome was gonna be worse than it was, meaning we were gonna lose, and then we drew. Um, so you know, didn't feel as bad. And it was just, you know, we have lots of like spiraling conversations throughout the day after that match, you know, which I'm sure we'll recap here in some form or fashion. That was just fun to kind of like talk through and get people's opinions. And you know, I after the Everton match, I just said I'm gonna enjoy this because this group of players I will never see play again, and I'm gonna stick to that. And I have some thoughts. So, you know, a little bit of both.
SPEAKER_02Spiraling conversations is a great way to describe how everything went yesterday after the match.
SPEAKER_00Spiraling, I would still say like positive connotations. Yeah, it's like spiraling crash out. Yeah, like just processing what are we seeing, what's happening, how do we feel? How is the fan greater fandom feeling? You know, so not it wasn't a crush out. I've done that once, will not return, you know, but just like spiraling into like one topic leading to the another, to another.
SPEAKER_02Well, for your the match versus Chelsea yesterday, um, it was our friend Taylor's birthday. It was a 4:30 in the morning game for us, and usually most of the time we are up watching it live, ready to go. But because we all wanted to watch the game together, we all decided, okay, we're gonna sleep in, we're gonna watch it together, we're gonna watch a recording of it. And we had said, we're going to be spoiler free. We don't know what, we don't want to know the outcome of the match before we watch it. It kind of felt like the episode of How I Met Your Mother when they were trying to not know the spoilers of the Super Bowl. It that's how it felt in the morning for me. Um, but we did wake up to a text message from one of our OG Liverpool girlies, Derek, saying, Um, well, it started out good. It started out well or something like that. Yeah. And I saw, I was like, oh no, oh no. I saw and I was like, well, that doesn't sound good. So I was anticipating.
SPEAKER_00So we we scored three goals in the first half. Somehow Chelsea came back and scored five goals in the second half, and we lost. Like, that's what I thought was gonna happen going into watching the match.
SPEAKER_02Yes. So I was able, yeah. I was able, I personally was able to like avoid most spoilers, and then like right before the match started, I found out what the ending score was, and I was like, okay, that's better than I thought, but let's see what happens. And yeah, we were all at Taylor's together celebrating his birthday. It was really fun. Um, it was just a different watching experience than we've normally had, but it started out well. I mean, Ryan's goal in the seventh minute, incredible. They looked really solid at the beginning.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I agree. I mean, it was such a good goal. And then again, just kind of knowing like it's not gonna end how we think it's gonna end. You know, I kept wondering what was gonna happen because it just felt like we were starting so strongly that I was like, how do we not win this match? You know, and then we kind of see from there we lose a little bit of steam. So um, yeah.
SPEAKER_02It was also interesting going into it because normally we're like stalking social media before a match and we see the opening lineup and we're like, we have an idea of what's gonna be on the pitch and how it's gonna start. And it was like, oh, wait, who else do we see? What's going on? I felt so like out of Rio was out there.
SPEAKER_00That was like the first thing we turned on the recording and like they panned to Rio while everyone's singing You'll Never Walk Alone. It was like our little baby, he's starting the match. I I didn't predict that, I did not see that one coming.
SPEAKER_02No, I was very, very, very happy to see Rio. And then Marmy was in the goal. That was really exciting.
SPEAKER_00I'm really so thankful to have him back. I think to me, yesterday he just proved how incredible he is because there were several great shots that he saved. I mean, not that, like obviously, we have Allie can save those shots. We've seen Woodman put in some incredible performances, but I was very happy to have Marmy back to know he's doing okay and very thankful for all the goals that he saved. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Now that I'm thinking back on it, where was Flo? Is he injured? He had like a stomach bug type of thing. Okay, well, he would have been very helpful. Yeah. There was oh man. Okay. I kind of just want to get into the chatter. We drew a one-one, everyone knows the end of the game. It was a struggle to watch for the rest of it because it just felt like, again, all the season we've seen, they've gotten off kilter, and Liverpool just can't get their mentality back into it. Mo is also not there. He still is not back and fit. I mean, we're told that he's gonna come back at least for one match. Hopefully, he'll be back for the last two. Um, but it's just another story of them not really being able to get their heads back into the game. And um, that was a little bit hard to watch. It wasn't the worst performance we've ever seen. They did create some really great opportunities. Um, I really did think that we were gonna end up winning 2-1 at some point. Like it looked like that. Um, I was grateful for the offside call for the second Chelsea goal. That was I was very grateful for that. But um so much negativity. Everyone is like, it's so hard to watch Liverpool content right now because everyone's just so angry. And like, it's yes, it's really disappointing that we lost. It's disappointing how we're doing this season because it's just not really that as fun to watch this season, but I think people are blowing things out of proportion. I've said it before, I'm gonna say it so many times. It's just really hard to watch how negative people are being about it and the booing at the end of the game. Yeah, it's just uh it's hard.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, for me, I've said it before, I dug some heat for it. I'll say it again. I just don't think unless you have done something like a crime against humanity, we just don't need to be booing our own team. You can be silent, you can you can not cheer, you can not clap, but that is on you. I don't like the booing. I never will. There's never that anything that I'm gonna say like that is acceptable. And I wasn't there, I'm not from Liverpool, I love this club, you know, and I understand people have different perspectives. Have your perspective. Mine is you gotta back your team. You can hold them accountable and still back them, and just uh the booing is not for me.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and mathematically, we need three more points to guarantee a Champions League spot for next season. Like we're gonna finish fourth or fifth. Like after it's just so mind-blowing. It it's just hard for me to wrap my mind around because again, I don't know. But one of the big conversations that we had yesterday was just, of course, around Rice Lot. Um, the really sad news is that our local pub, St. Andrew's, is being sold. And so we got to go one last time last night and um got to chat with some of our fellow Liverpool supporters. And obviously, the conversation like that pops up after a game like that of like slot in slot in or out is the question that is put on the table. And for me personally, it's something has to change. Um, I want the best for slot, and if the team chooses to keep him and give him an opportunity to stay and prove himself and do better, I'm going to cheer for him. But if he and the executive team decide to transition him out of the team and bring someone else in, I will be happy with that as well. I know that something has to change. Like we can't just keep doing the same thing over and over again. But I and no, he has not been perfect. It's just hard seeing people be so hard on him and not taking into account all that he has been faced with. Um, coming in after Jurgen Klopp, no one knows, like that is an impossible feat. He's always gonna be the guy after. Um, so has he done a perfect job?
SPEAKER_00But I think people he's the guy after the guy. He's that guy after Klopp, and he's the guy after himself. Like he came in the first season and and won the Premier League. Like, you know, he set such an insane standard year one that nobody would take back. But it's hard to follow to have so much change and to live up to that. And I do think, I mean, myself included, I think we a lot of us came into this season being like, we did it last season, but why can't we do it again? Why aren't we winning another trophy? And that's great, like it's Liverpool. We should always believe we will win trophies and we can win the Premier League. Yeah, it's I feel bad for a slide. I agree with you. I I want to see him succeed. I think that's my stance. And if he's here next season, like I want him to do well, I want this team to perform well, I want it to be fun, I want the fan base to back them. And like if this is not somewhere that he can be successful with this team, like I hope that decision can be made. Yeah, but I'm not like a pro slot out, like I'm gonna ride, I'm gonna ride that fence. Like I want him to succeed, and if he's not here, it's okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, I'm glad that he was not fired halfway through the season because that would not have been good for the team, that would not have been good for him. Like, I'm glad that he was given time. Yeah, I saw someone saying today, like, oh, well, last year I say that last year's Premier League win was Jurgen Klopp's second Premier League win because that was on muscle memory from Jurgen Klopp.
SPEAKER_00And I was like, No, actually, no, Jurgen Klopp couldn't do it in his final season. Like, and that's okay. He was tired of a great culture to this team, but to take that away from slot is just like it's not fair. And to now go back and try to rewrite that history of what last season was. No, that's not fair.
SPEAKER_02But the heart and the soul of Jurgen Klopp there 100%. Yeah, but Arne was able to come in and take things and tweak things. The way that we saw um Ryan Gravenberg wake up last season, he got the best out of Ryan, he got the best out of Dom. The way that he was able to, we avoided so many injuries last season because of how he came in and was training it. And another point someone made last night was like, oh, artist slot is just making people lazy. And I'm like, maybe I just haven't watched the game long enough to agree with that, but I don't think so. He like I remember when um McAllister last season was like, or I don't remember who it was, he was like, these are some of the hardest trainings like I've ever been a part of.
SPEAKER_00And yeah, Slap has to set a standard, but also these are professional footballers, so like if they need more conditioning, if they need more training, if they need to put in more time, they have the autonomy to do that. Like, yeah, you know, so I think there's just a balance on uh ultimately slot because he is the head coach, like if all like he is the scapegoat, like we are not inside, so we don't know what's going on, but like everyone gets to take accountability in this, everybody's a part of the team.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00One of the other things that we had started talking about yesterday morning during the match, and then on the Liverpool official Liverpool uh podcast post-match, they were kind of talking about it, and I've kind of just had it turning in my head a little bit more that I thought was interesting is talking about the focus on data. And just I think in sports culture in general, there's you know, we've turned like more and more to like what do the stats say? What does the data say? And I think there's a lot of reasons culturally why that's happening. And we also hear slot talk a lot about data and metrics and things that are really great indicators of how somebody's performing, but you know, don't necessarily always tell the whole story. Um and so one of the things on the LFC podcast they were talking about was, you know, like is that are those stats in players' minds? Like, if I if I do or don't do this, how does that impact my stats? And how is that gonna impact, you know, like the comp the feedback I'm gonna get next week or the conversations, you know? And I don't know if that would be a subconscious part, a conscious part, but I just do think like this like stat focused environment it plays an impact one way or another, and you know, they're great, and when you have great stats, that's awesome. If you're not winning games, it doesn't really matter. And we're human beings, like stats just can't tell the whole story. They can't we can't control our bodies, yeah. And like they can't be the ultimate um like decider of what to do and how to play. Like we have functioning brains, the our brains need to help us make those decisions, you know. I I love college football, like that's was like my original sport love. And watching it nowadays, you know, every fourth down, it's hey, this head coach is gonna turn to the stats and see if based on that metric, if they should go for fourth down or not. Okay, but like, but you're a human and you're watching the and you know these players, and so it's like it's a great piece of information, but like Lane Kiven is was a coach that like coached at Olez, now at LSU, like solely on that decision would rely on the stat. And you know, sometimes I feel like slot is a that little bit more data-minded, and I think he can see the data sometimes and be like, but we had you know all these great points, cool, but we didn't win the game, so I don't know like where I'm kind of landing in all that, to be honest. It's just something that I've been like we discussed and like kind of been churning through my brain of like that's cool, but and I think especially what has always made Liverpool so great in Klopp era is like it is that heart that makes a difference, and that is not a stat.
SPEAKER_02And a lot of that heart was sold last season. And bringing new people in and teaching them that culture is a really difficult task, yeah, and especially makes it very difficult when there are certain players who are not believing in it anymore because of whatever's going on in the locker room. So I just I'm not one that's saying slot needs to get out or slot needs to stay in. I'm I'm very neutral about it now. I'm not gonna be as heartbroken if he leaves, which I think that's my gut tells me that we will he will not be around next season. Um, and it also makes it a little bit more difficult to say I want slot to stay because Javi Alonzo is just hanging out there without a job.
SPEAKER_00And I do wonder if Javi wasn't available, what the temperament of the Liverpool fanbase would be, what my temperament would be, because it is it is very enticing to think we could have a former Liverpool player, we could have somebody that knows how to get the best from Flo and from Frimpong. Like that is why would you not want that? You know, but then I think there's also part of me that's like Javi is a great coach, but like what if he comes to Liverpool and has the same success of this season for two seasons or three seasons? Like, do we like I just don't want us to turn into that club that's like okay, well bye. Like, you know, yeah, so I don't know, but I do think he under like he's been in the club culture, and I do think he understands some of that. And if he was our coach, I'm not gonna be upset about it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I just want people to be more grateful for Arne and what he has brought to us. That I think that's how I feel about it. That's the heart my heartbreak about it. Is he deserves the gratitude, and I know it sucks because our team isn't as fun to watch this every week. It's like, are we gonna record a podcast? Yeah, yeah, we should. Let's talk about it. Because it's just hard. Yeah. But we have two more games left, and in two and a half months, we will be in New York City watching Liverpool v. Rexum.
SPEAKER_00And that is bonkers. Dominic Somasai, watching Milos Kirkz, watching Costus Semicast.
SPEAKER_02Like our trip to Philadelphia and watching that game and like that whole day and the day before was like some of my absolute favorite memories with our friend group. So, like getting to go back and do that and have it be against Wrexham is gonna be really fun. So, oh, and New York City. Yeah, okay. This is my official plea to anyone from Liverpool out there. Please consider coming to Seattle. Please consider coming to Seattle in a future preseason. We would love to have preseason. Please, please, OLSC Seattle will be so happy to host you. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Please. And, you know, dare I say, Seattle known for their coffee culture. What is Liverpool known for to us? The Axe Training Center coffee bar. So I think there's some synergy that could happen there, if you will.
SPEAKER_02I think so. And our wish is that um Mo will become a Seattle Sounders player anyway. So that's just gonna be like they that all his friends want to come and visit him and his new life here. Cause, right?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02We also yesterday were plotting a lot of um like World Cup experience for us. We, if anyone is in the Seattle area and is a Liverpool fan, we are wanting to come together and watch um Mo play. We want to watch Egypt play together.
SPEAKER_00So they'll be in Seattle. They're playing here.
SPEAKER_02They will be playing in Seattle. We are not going to be going to the games, it's too expensive. We do not have tickets for that, but um we want to be very Mo centric. What did we call it yesterday?
SPEAKER_00Mo Seattle will be Mo Central.
SPEAKER_02Yes, Seattle will be Mo Central. That is going to be so keep an eye on the socials for that because it's gonna be a great time. I love the World Cup.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm so excited. Yeah, I'm you know, every week I have to remind myself like there's still two more, two more games of the season. I'm not wishing them away. And when the World Cup starts, I will be thrilled. I will be thrilled.
SPEAKER_02Yes. I will be in the UK for most of the World Cup, except the final. I will be back in Seattle. And so I'm wondering if on my days off, if any of the UK pubs are gonna be doing things like in the middle. Of the night. I'm hoping so.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Especially when England's playing. But it's World Cup. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Because it'll be like some of those games. I was looking at the timings. It'll be like four o'clock in the morning. So hopefully I'll be able to find someplace to go to watch some of those games.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So if anyone knows anything, let me know.
SPEAKER_00Also, it wouldn't be a Liverpool girl leaf podcast if I did not bring up the next topic that I think is somewhat World Cup adjacent because Uruguay is playing in the World Cup and it's Liverpool adjacent. And if you don't know where I'm going with this, well, you should.
SPEAKER_02I was like, and then you said Uruguay, and I was like, okay, yes, I know where we were going with this. Thank you.
SPEAKER_00So it there have been announcements, rumors, rumblings that the the love of my life, Darwin Nunez, is looking to leave Othalo. I've seen rumors that they're gonna let him go on a free. So, you know, I don't know, just chalk in another plea, but get him back to Liverpool. Get my boy back to Liverpool. We need Darwin Nunez. Even if it's like for Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Can we switch Cody Gakpo for Darwin Nunez? That's my plea.
SPEAKER_00Well, but we really need someone to to back up for Eckie while he's out. So like even if it's just a year, like oh yeah, you know, bring him in for a year, have him be there to play down the middle behind an ESAC or in front of Esak. Sorry, said what I said.
SPEAKER_02Um my favorite part was that someone who like does not know your love of Liverpool was hanging out with us yesterday, and we were like, name it off, Jabby Alonzo coming in and so-and-so coming in. He was like, and then we'll just get Darwin Unions back, and the entire table erupted because we all knew beating the table.
SPEAKER_00He's like, I would I would buy a Darwin Nunia skate. I was like, check my back, bro. Like, I got them all. So anyway, I was just like, it would not be me if I didn't also just say, please bring this man back. I understand he hits the post a lot, okay? I understand he hits the crossbar a lot, but he also scores souls, he causes chaos, he plays offense and he plays defense. And we just need the man button. Like we need the hair. He doesn't have one right now. Well, it's growing back.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Anyway, I mean, if he doesn't come back to us, I want him to be at Bayern Munich with Lucho. That's how I feel.
SPEAKER_00Byron would be fine. You I've seen rumors he could go to Juventus. Fine. I'm just like if he's in the Premier League, it has to be with Liverpool because yeah, my heart could not handle having to play against him. It would be great to actually get to watch him every week, but it would be way too painful. Way too painful for your girl.
SPEAKER_02So anyway, what if he ended up joining Coventry City? How would you feel about that?
SPEAKER_00Oh no. I mean, like, great, but like like I said, it'd be so painful.
SPEAKER_02One day you need to tell that story about your love of Coventry City.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I will. I will. But I think when we play them next season, I'll I think that's a good idea. I'll share. Yeah. So anyway, I just had, you know, we're talking about World Cup and next season, and I want my boy back.
SPEAKER_02Any other thoughts about the game?
SPEAKER_00About think through like all the conversations we had mid like through everything because there was just so much. But I feel like we covered the essence of it.
SPEAKER_02We were five friends who are passionate about Liverpool that literally hung out basically all day. We had conversations during the game, we had conversations at brunch, and then we left each other. We went to go hang out with more of our friends. Young calls us and is like, okay, here's what I'm still thinking about this, like keeping tabs with each other all day, get back together at the end of the day at St. Andrew's, where we would always watch games together, still talking about Liverpool. It was great. Yeah, it was so simple. It was really fun. Yeah, yes, we drew. Yes, we're not doing well. I'm not gonna let a game take me down because it doesn't matter anymore. We're not fighting for anything, like whatever. It'll be different. We have time. The World Cup is coming. I'm not concerned about anymore.
SPEAKER_00I think I'm just kind of a little beyond the point of like breaking down the match like blow by blow. I'm like, mm-hmm. It's not our best. We know it's not our best. I believe one way or another, there will be decisions made to turn it around. I just want unity and love and cohesion back. And it'll get there.
SPEAKER_02Um and we've created our own space that has all of that. And yes, we take turns all crashing out, but then the others say, We hear what you're saying, but let's think about it also from this side. And then the person who just crashed out goes, Okay, okay, I see your point. I see your point. Okay, I feel so much better about this. And then it's the next person's turn to crash. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So it's just like we just all love it. And like we all, you know, want to see like these guys that like do what they love, be good at it, and we love their relationships. And so anytime it feels like those things are kind of you know, on the line, it's just harder. But it doesn't change the fact that like Fred, I'm gonna be watching the next game, and I want us to do well, and I'll always believe that we can win.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And it's hard because like you can just tell that the team and like the meet the social media team, they're just like trying to make it through to the end. Like, there was hardly any social media anything in this lot. There was no coffee bar content, there was no like inside training content, like, and that's rare. Yeah, so it just I just feel for everyone so hard.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and it'll get back and it'll be okay. And and then when we do really well again, it's gonna make it even yeah, it's gonna feel so like we're gonna be like, remember that season we got through?
SPEAKER_02Like 10 years, we're gonna look at the stats for the season and go, look, we got fourth. That's incredible. That must have been such a great season. I do feel like we'll remember this a little bit more, but no, like like newbies like us would go, oh, look at the yes 25, 26, and like zero context about it, you know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no. I mean, I think we come out of these next two games with the three points we need. If we don't, uh, it will not be fun. But I believe we'll come out with the points we need. We'll be in Champions League. You know, our guys will either get a great break this summer or play in the World Cup, and hopefully that gives some like especially for like Isac, that gives some, you know, fitness back to him that he needs. I hope the guys have just stay healthy and have a really good summer and and we start again in the fall.
SPEAKER_02Poor Isak. I feel so bad for him. But next up, Liverpool Aston Villa.
SPEAKER_00I'm interested to see how Aston Villa shows up and like who starts this match ahead of their Europa League final, because I think obviously that's kind of the focus for them, and I hope that benefits us.
SPEAKER_02Since our pub is no longer um, and we have a frequent visitor to our pub who is an Aston Villa fan, all of uh there's a core group of Seattle Liverpool supporters that have decided that they're going to the Aston Villa pub to watch the Liverpool game. So I think if I can make it work, I will be joining them for that. And that will be a lot of fun. It'll be my last match before I leave for work for the summer. So that will be really fun. Very it'll be, I think it'll be fun no matter what happens. So yeah. But I'll get to be in person, and that's all that matters.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, but I hope we can get the three points, have the Champions League spot wrapped up before we go into the last game of the season.
SPEAKER_02And then Robo and Mo's last game will be like this one's that's what I'm hoping for. Crossing my fingers. Well, uh, player of the week, who you got?
SPEAKER_00Well, we got one goal. I got one player of the week, and that'll be Ryan Gravenberge.
SPEAKER_02He looked so good yesterday.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he looked really great, beautiful goal. You know, it's gave like that energy that's it just showed like we can do it, like we can come in early and start this, and you know, hopefully the learning from there is like now how do we maintain and increase that momentum? Um, but yeah, I thought he played really well, beautiful goal, and as always, thankful to have him on our team. We love Ryan. Yeah. What about you? Who's your player of the week?
SPEAKER_02Mine is Marmy. I was so excited to see him back in the goal. And he played an incredible game. Yeah. We probably should have lost that game like 3-1 if it were not for him. So I literally like it was partway through the first half, and I went, he's gonna be my player of the week. No one steal it. That's mine. I call it. Because it just kept going, wow, Marmy, wow, Marmy. Yeah. So he did great. So props to him, flowers to him. Glad he's back and healthy. Who knows when we're gonna see Allison again? Yeah, hopefully. Anyway, that is all for this week's episode. We will be back here again next week, but until then, you'll never walk a moment.
