The Liverpool Girlies are BACK for Season 2! ❤️⚽️ After a summer full of football, travel, and Liverpool FC’s US preseason tour, we have a lot to catch up on before the new Premier League season begins.

We’re recapping our World Cup summer, from matches in Seattle to watching across the UK, and why the post-tournament come-down somehow made us love football even more. Then we’re heading to New York and Chicago for Liverpool’s preseason tour, where we met up with Official Liverpool Supporters Clubs, ran into some Liverpool Girlies listeners (!!), and finally got to see this new-look Liverpool squad in person.

We’re talking preseason standouts, exciting young players, Liverpool’s new signings, the energy around the squad, and what has us feeling optimistic heading into the season. Plus, we make our official predictions for Liverpool’s first league goal, captaincy, trophies, Champions League run and more.

And because it wouldn’t be The Liverpool Girlies without something to stress about, we’re discussing the possibility of Cody Gakpo leaving before looking ahead to Liverpool’s Premier League opener away at Newcastle.

Preseason results may not matter, but our opinions about them absolutely do.

Welcome to The Preseason of Our Lives. ✨

The Liverpool Girlies is a Liverpool FC fan podcast hosted by Molly Anne, Stephanie, and Annika, covering Liverpool news, match reactions, transfers, Premier League and Champions League football, fan culture, and everything that comes with supporting the Reds.

Controlled chaos, rum energy, the rejecting the polished expectations. You know, they must be acting a fool again this season. Like I need them to be acting a fool again on the pitch.

SPEAKER_01

Hey everyone, welcome back to the Liverpool Girlies Podcast, a place where we welcome anyone who loves to obsess over Liverpool FC. My name is Molly Ann, and I'm here with Stephanie and Annika. We are three friends who share a love of Liverpool and dream of one day having a cup of coffee at the AXA Training Center coffee bar. Y'all, we are back.

SPEAKER_02

We're back.

SPEAKER_01

We made it through the World Cup. We've made it through preseason. The Liverpool girlies are back. Yay! I'm so happy. Yay! I'm so excited. Uh same. I have been waiting. I think the last two weeks to two weeks have felt the longest of the whole summer. I'm very excited to be here. Uh obviously, we have so much Liverpool that we want to talk about today. But before we do that, I would just love to hear what were you up to this summer? What's a highlight as we come back?

SPEAKER_00

I think my, I mean, World Cup. It was World Cup summer for sure. I think my highlight was having the World Cup in my hometown to have Seattle have so many games, but also some like really fun games. Molly Ann and I got to go to a match together. Um, that was really special and made me like love the World Cup and connect with it even more. And also um love my city, my sports city. So I had so much fun in Seattle this summer, and I'm honestly really sad that the World Cup is over. But I'm excited for club football. I especially preseason, I'm I'm warming up into it. But really, the come down from the World Cup has just been terrible for me.

SPEAKER_02

Don't forget, we have the World Cup next summer as well.

SPEAKER_00

We do have the Women's World Cup, but having it in my hometown just I don't know if I'll ever have that again, and I will never forget it.

SPEAKER_02

So true, so true. Steph, what about you? I sadly was out of town for the entirety of the World Cup, except the final match. So I did not get to go to any of the matches here in Seattle, but I did get to be in London for pretty much every single England match and getting to watch it in the country. And I was in Scotland for when they won their first match. It was just, it was really great getting to be in the countries where football means a lot and getting to be in the World Cup just means so much. And I just my I mean, my highlight of the summer is that I got to spend two months in the UK, and that was just really incredible for work and all that. So I'm so glad to be back. I'm so sad I missed World Cup being in my city, but it was really, really special getting to like be in pubs and meeting people from around the world. And I there was one cab driver I had, he was like, Oh, you're from America. You guys are doing so well in the World Cup, and just like how encouraging they were about that. It was just really fun. And just getting to watch the world fall in love with our country and like especially all the Scotland stuff in Boston, like just that was really special. The cultural things outside of the World Cup and getting to experience that on social media was really, really special. So yeah, it was a really, really fun summer, but I cannot wait for the Premier League to start back up again this weekend. I it's so exciting.

SPEAKER_00

All World Cup, I kept talking about Hungary because I was like, I miss Dom and Milos so much. So thank God for club because I can't live without them.

SPEAKER_01

Obviously, staying on theme with the World Cup, getting to go see Mo play Belgium in the group round in Seattle. I mean, that going to a World Cup match is like one of my huge bucket list things. And so to get to do that was really cool. But to get to be there to see Mo um again was really fun. And then for me, I loved getting to watch y'all experience the World Cup, like knowing now what the World Cup is, because the first one we all watched together was Qatar, and I was like, you know, come on guys, like it's fun. And so this time for everyone to be so into it and be like, yes, I love this. It was really, really fun.

SPEAKER_00

I and don't tell my work this, but I don't think that I worked a single day during the World Cup because it was just like I literally couldn't.

SPEAKER_02

Y'all, that was one of the saddest things about being in the UK was because some of those matches were at one o'clock, three o'clock in the morning, and I was working. And normally, if I were home, like literally for the guitar World Cup, we were waking up at three o'clock in the morning and watching those games. But I, because I was working, I literally couldn't, like I literally, really sad that I couldn't watch every single match, but it was special when I got to. So, and all the guests that I had on my trips, I got a lot of them into the sport and multiples of them. I was really pushing for the Netherlands. And when they got knocked out of the World Cup, I had guests text texting me saying, Oh, I'm so sorry about the Netherlands. We just it just it's really special how this sport brings the entire world together. And I was like excited about the World Cup coming because I was like, I remember really liking it, and then just coming down from the end of the World Cup was just like really, really sad. That post-World Cup hangover. It's real.

SPEAKER_00

Uh yeah, it's not okay. I think too, like to be honest, the end last season we all lived it. It was weary. I was I was weary by the end, and I was excited for the World Cup because I was excited for it to be here and to maybe get to go. Um, but really just letting myself like totally be a fangirl and love the sport and just love learning all the stories of these different players, of these different countries, of these fans, and like fully immersing myself in this short-lived, high-pressure environment was really fun and honestly gave me, I think, a lot of um refreshed hope for this season, even though it's like totally disconnected from club football. It just, I guess, reminded me why I really enjoyed watching football in the first place and about just the context, the greater context. And and um, I don't know. I I I think I really needed it this summer, and going into the preseason, it was helpful for me. So you're so right.

SPEAKER_02

It just made me fall in love with the sport all over again. That was really nice, especially the group stage was like literally so much fun. Once we got out of that into the knockout rounds, it started becoming very, very stressful and very heartbreaking. I was like almost relieved when the Netherlands were knocked out because then I was like, okay, I don't have a stake in anything. Like, let me just enjoy the sport. I just hope it's really good. So like something really fun to watch.

SPEAKER_00

And it really was. Did you guys have any like surprise teams that you ended up like cheering for that you didn't see coming? Any teams that captured your heart?

SPEAKER_01

I obviously knew I would be like rooting for Mo, but I think watching Egypt and the other one, Annika, you called this from the beginning. I didn't quite see it, but was Norway. Um, I was I've been saying all summer like Erlen Brout Holland, peak. He was a character this summer. I loved watching him. But when we get to just Erlen Holland in the Premier League, no, no, no, no, no. I gotta be back on my like get away from me phase. But that honestly, I don't, so I don't know it's so much a team, but how much I enjoyed watching Erlen Holland surprised me.

SPEAKER_02

Honestly, I was so afraid to text you guys and be like, do I like Erling now? Like he used to like I would see him on the pitch when we were playing Man City and be like, ew, gross, disgusting. Like he would literally disgust me. And now I'm like, oh, he's a caricature. Okay, I don't he doesn't disgust me as much, but we will see when he's back into that sky blue again.

SPEAKER_00

But yeah, well, and he really had to win me over because I'm Swedish, so to even at all root for Norway is like a challenge. Um, but I don't know, he did. By the end, I was like, okay, Norway, like sure. I think for me, Egypt really, I think going to Egypt Belgium game. I obviously was like definitely a little more partial to Egypt going into that game, but I was very like open-minded to whatever. And the the fans, the Egyptian fans, really captured my heart and the team, and just I I'm still like reeling over Egypt-Argentina. So yeah, that is the new Liverpool versus Tottenham of our first season. The the the absolute just like trauma, that is what has now been injected into that game. Um, but yeah, I loved watching Egypt, and I also enjoyed following Scotland.

SPEAKER_02

I love Scotland so much. Um, I really like most of the rest of the world, loved Cabo Verde and their keeper. Them, both them and Egypt getting knocked out by Argentina. It made me so bitter. And it made me cheer for Spain even more at the end.

SPEAKER_00

So you guys, I had a realization about Mac this summer that I was holding. Because we know we've had a journey with Macalister, okay? And so I realized that like when he's on our team, I'm like, that's my boy. Get on the floor, whine about it, get us our, you know, penalty, whatever. But then when I see him go and play for Argentina, he's my enemy all of a sudden. And the only way I knew how to describe it is it's like it's like we went to rival high schools and like I hated him in high school, but then in college we became friends and he was on my team. But when we go back to high school, like you're my enemy. You you are not my friend anymore. Um, so I need to get reacquainted with McAllister. I'm already honestly pretty over it, but in the moment, I was like, Yeah, it helps with a lot more.

SPEAKER_01

Like it was like the how did I become endeared to Erlen Holland? But Alexis McAllister, I'm like, please stay away from me.

SPEAKER_02

That is the first season that we were watching. Liverpool was his first season, and it was very shortly after he had won the World Cup. And so I think it still had that Argentina essence about him of like rolling around the ground, just being really whiny. And Liverpool has slowly like ironed that out of him because that is not exactly our player culture.

SPEAKER_00

So that makes a lot of sense. He's he's won me over, so I have a stop that we won't have to really. I won't be mad at him, but I just in the moment I was like versus watching Netherlands, I couldn't help but cheer for them. Like I just love them.

SPEAKER_02

Well, after the World Cup, we headed very quickly into pre-season, and we love a good preseason moment. We're, I mean, of course, anticipating it because of our new coach and some of the new signings. We wanted to see how they were doing, and especially since um Dom and Kirkes got some time to rest, and we just knew that especially Dom was gonna come in and be a great leader. We're just very excited to see them on the pitch. But the most exciting part of preseason is three of their matches were in the United States, and of course, we had to go and attend as much as we could. So the three of us, we went to New York City, we saw them play Wrexham, and then we headed right over to Chicago and we saw them play Leeds. It was absolutely incredible. Like a couple years ago, we got to see them in Philadelphia all together. Molly and you got to see them one more time after that. So you did get to see two in the same summer. But getting to travel with the two of you guys and being all together and getting to do the things that we got to do was just like so much fun. And it was a really great opportunity to just kind of see where the guys are at. It was so fun to get to watch these guys in person. What did you guys how are you feel feeling about our time out there?

SPEAKER_01

I will take any chance I can get to see Liverpool. So I really didn't expect them to come back so quickly after having just been here, what, two summers ago? Um, but absolutely loved it. And I yeah, I do think after last season, there's just a little sense of like some new energy starting to like rebuild, which was really fun to see. And I just love getting to meet different Liverpool like supporters, and you know, we met like the OLSC uh Brooklyn, OLSC New York, and it's just really special. I think that's what really drew us to this club. And so when we get to like be in person and travel and meet different people, uh, it makes it just feel a little more tangible.

SPEAKER_00

It helped me so much, I think, gearing up for this season too to be in the stadium, seeing the players already watching on the TV. I'm realizing how little I see some of the players that are doing work off the ball during the game and getting to watch them in person. I was just noticing so much more of their leadership skills, of their communication, and it like makes you feel more connected to what's going on with the team. And yeah, I agree. Shout out to the OLSCs because they really know how to bring people together and make it an experience for the fans and for the supporters and to really like connect everyone, which I agree. Like, obviously, we have this podcast because we love talking to each other and being connected over Liverpool, but getting to connect with new friends about shared interests is so much fun. And pretty much any time that we found ourselves in a group of Liverpool supporters was my favorite part of our trip. It was the best.

SPEAKER_01

And I just want to pause because we said, I said OLSC, you've said OLSC. But just in case anybody doesn't know what OLSC is, it's official Liverpool supporters club. So, like a lot of major cities have groups that meet each weekend, watch games together, do hangouts, things like that. So I just figured, just in case somebody doesn't know what an OLSC is, make sure we clarify that.

SPEAKER_02

If you're in a city that is not near Liverpool, please check to see if your city has an OLSC. There are many official ones around the world, especially around the United States. The fact that they have two in New York, they have one for New York City City, one for Brooklyn. That's insane. They literally have them all over the world. OLSC Netherlands, Carlsbad is another one that we met when we are in New York City. Like, literally look up to see if someone is close to you because we're finding, we're finding out so many people in Seattle who are Liverpool supporters didn't know that we existed. So go find it in your city because it's such a great opportunity to get out of your house, meet more Liverpool fans. We are, we have our first match all together next week in our brand new pub. But yeah, it is it's such a fun way to get together and especially us, we like do events and international breaks and stuff. So yeah, shout out to all the OSC people that we met. Um, and also thank you to everyone who came and talked to us. Going into a city and literally just walking around and people coming up to us and saying, oh my gosh, you're the Liverpool girlies, was like the weirdest, most fun thing to happen, especially when we are in New York. Like we went to, we went to an event that OLSC, New York, and Brooklyn put on. And these two girls came up, they were like, oh my gosh, you're the Liverpool girlies. And it was the first time that's ever happened to us. So thank you to everyone who came up and talked to us. That was really sweet. And it was just like, oh, people actually listen to this. Oh, wow. Okay, thank you so much. It was just really, really fun getting to meet people and be reminded that our this club is massive. Liverpool is such a massive global, global club. Um, so it's really great to be reminded of that. So yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And just the heart that Liverpool has for community and for giving back to your city, the OLSCs really like continue to bring that and getting to meet other Liverpool fans. It's just it's such a nice way to meet other people who um yeah, share like interests and fun things, but also just um like values. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I love the sport, and that is of course why we all gather together. But what I really take away from being a fan is getting to be a fan and getting to be around other fans. So that was my favorite part of preseason. In terms of the sport itself, for preseason, we got to learn a lot of things. We got to take in a lot of data. I mean, when slot first came in, we won every single game. And then we ended up winning uh the Premier League. And then even last preseason, they did really well. And we were like, okay, we think it's gonna go pretty well. And then it didn't. So it was really good to see them not do as well, like going 2-0 to then losing 4-2 against Leeds. I was like, it was a such a good, it was such a good game. It was such a fun game to go to. But we got to learn so much, and then even today was their final preseason match, and they ended up winning 2-0, which again just collected a lot of data, and every single game they've looked better and better, especially now that we have our entire squad back together. So yeah, it was really good. I feel encouraged for starting up next season, especially with a win.

SPEAKER_01

I also think we got to see a lot of really young talent develop. I mean, I think that's every preseason because of the big competitions that take place, like the World Cup. Those senior players aren't there, but this preseason, I feel like we really walked away with like young talent that I think we're gonna see make an impact in the Premier League, which is really exciting. I mean, Kumas was phenomenal. My sweet baby boy, Tre Neoni, is finally getting his flowers, and people are like, oh my gosh, he's so mature, he's so calm. Where have you been, guys? Did you not see the Caraval Cup three seasons ago? I did, I knew this. Just saying. So I'm so I just love when like our little, I shouldn't call them little babies. They're grown adults, but to meet little babies. 23 years old. You know, when they get the chance to like prove themselves. And right now with Areola coming in, I mean, I think they're really taking that opportunity to say, like, I know I'm younger, but like I I want to be a part of this team. I want to make a difference. And I love getting to see that. I love seeing them fight for that.

SPEAKER_00

I agree. I do feel like we're just in a different place with our young talent than we've been for the last two years. They're still young, but they're a little bit older, a little bit more experienced. And you've seen them play in a couple different opportunities and now get to step up with the first team and really like make an a strong impact and not, you know, just feel like, okay, you're here, like we've got you. Um, yeah. So that was so much fun to see them play. Uh yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And I think from what I've read and gathered about Ariola, he's also somebody that is passionate, but is also really skilled at developing young talent. And I'm excited that we get to like reap the benefits of that with him as our new coach.

SPEAKER_02

Well, since the last time we talked in June, we've had three more players added to our team. We had Victor Munoz, Jeremy Jacquette, and Ronald Raho. Congratulations, Molly Ann. Uruguayan started.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, y'all. So I was thinking, and I was like, I'm gonna take a sample size of my tenure as a Liverpool supporter, which we're going into our four seasons. And I would just like to say, based off what have what I've seen, Liverpool is at their best when we have a Uruguayan on the team. You're so right. And I understand the sample. I understand the sample size is, but I'm gonna take it. We watched two seasons with Darwin Nunez. We won the Carabah Cup, we won the Premier League. Darwin Nunez leaves us. We know how that went. We have a Uruguayan back, okay? We're back to full force. I am so pumped. I'm so pumped.

SPEAKER_00

Both Ronald and Jeremy impressed today. Oh my gosh. I and you guys know loved Kanate, love Joe. Like, it is a lot for me to watch them in their first performance and to say, wow, I'm very, very, very impressed. And not just like, I'm hopeful, fingers crossed, maybe it'll work out. Like, no, that I'm very impressed. So look at that.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, especially Araho with his talent, with his experience, it looked like he had been with the team for 10 years. Like that was so impressive. And I feel I didn't, y'all, I really did not realize how on edge I was all last season. Now that I'm like, oh, like I feel like I can relax a little bit with a with the back line. Just like I didn't realize how tense I was and how stressed out I was about that back line.

SPEAKER_00

So I'm really impressed with them. That was a beautiful. I mean, and to be honest, like when we were watching the Leeds game in Chicago, it was like, woo, this is so fun. And then second half, I was like, we know this story.

SPEAKER_02

It really doesn't help no players for our backlog. In the first half, we had our first team, yes. They had their second. And then it flipped like that 100% makes sense.

SPEAKER_00

But oh yeah. But it just, you know, you have those scars. Okay, you have scars from our past. Experiences and I think I've seen that film before. That was that was tough one. But even so, to be honest, like losing that game, I was like, that was so much fun. Oh, yeah, that was a fun game. But yeah, I'm I'm very pleased with us signing them. Um, also Victor. Yeah. Okay. Excited to see more.

SPEAKER_01

Watching Victor today, and there's just something about his demeanor. I don't know a obviously ton about him yet, but I've watched an interview, watched him today. There is just something about him that really reminds me of Diogo. Oh yeah. Like, I don't, I don't know, and I'm interested to see like how that, you know, how it unfolds throughout the season. But that's what I just kept thinking watching him. Like, there's just like it seems like he has kind of like that same quietness, but still an intensity to him. Um, yeah, that I was like, oh, like it just, you know, it's like a little pang. I was like, yeah, he reminds me of him so much. So yeah.

SPEAKER_00

You can see that. Yeah. I can too. Yeah, I'm really excited to get to know them all more and like for them to integrate with our team. I don't know why. Like, I know we've had so many new signings and changes. This feels a lot less overwhelming to me than how it's felt before.

SPEAKER_01

I think I feel like because, well, and maybe somebody will still leave, but I think because like Mo, Robo, and Kanate kind of just like all left at one time, it feels a little less like coming and going, where now we're just more so like expecting hopefully players just to come in and we're not selling a ton more players. So yeah, I agree. Last summer felt like a lot of whiplash with signings, but I feel a little more studied going into the season.

SPEAKER_02

It's also nice. I was thinking about this today. It's nice not having Liverpool be in the headlines every single day of record signing, record signing, and all these opinions from everyone, and then that putting up putting so much pressure on our team to do so well because of the numbers that we spent. I'm just glad that it's just like chill this time around.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you know. And I feel like all three of these new players totally have Liverpool energy. Like, yeah, you know, we always talk about there's just a certain vibe that is a Liverpool player vibe. And so sometimes we'll be like, that player should be on our team because they have a Liverpool vibe. But these guys, I I don't know, I just see it. I was watching them in the inside training from last week, and yeah, it just felt really natural. I think too, like just thinking back to the beginning of last season and how much grief and pressure existed between the loss of Diogo. There was Kanate ended up going through the loss of his father that season, there was the tragedy at the parade, then there was the pressure of the World Cup, the pressure of just winning the Premier League. Like, it was just such a heavy space. I don't know how else to describe it. And I feel like we were aware of that, but living in today's Liverpool and watching the vibes at the training center and all of them play, it feels so much lighter and just like, you know, time like does time's thing. And um, and it it I remember us saying that at the beginning of last season and just saying like that is going to be a part of the story. And I think there's a lot of great things of like, I don't know, there's opportunities for connection and some kind of reckoning, I guess, that we went through last year. And I think we're here on the other side, and I'm excited to see the way that the players um commit to growing and being a team. And I feel hopeful about it that that can start to happen really this season.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I think especially with Ariola, just like watching him in insight training and seeing how like intentional he is, how involved he is. I mean, just even watching him during preseason, like he is up there, he is coaching them, like he is active the whole time, he's emotional. Like, I think that's gonna make a really big difference for this new group and how we move forward. And like seeing, I can't remember if it was after a game or at one point when Fermi came off, but like he goes up and like gives him a big hug, and we just didn't see much of that the last couple of seasons, and it's really fun to have that like that energy, that care back with our team.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I feel like too, I think that Rne was always very protective of the players, which I appreciate. And I think sometimes that was hard because anyway, it just sometimes the protection was confusing. But I do feel like Ireola's looking out for them, but I don't feel like he's overprotective of where they're at. Like, I don't think he's afraid to say, like, they only have legs for 30 minutes, let's see how far they can run. Like, you know, which I think we've all been watching it. And it's like, yeah, you like you're awesome for the first 30 minutes. It's a 90-minute game, you know? Like, what are we gonna do about this? And so I think just the warmth that he has, but also the realism partner well together and are just in this weird phase that is continuing to watch this really established Liverpool culture that was Klops Liverpool with these really foundational players like go through this change and just trying to find what is the identity of Liverpool in that aftermath. And I feel hopeful about it and I like this step and I like the people who are still here. It it feels good, but it is just a lot of change still.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and having the consistency in slot's very first season made him it made it easier for him to use his tactics into that because he did not need to set the tone of the culture of Liverpool because it was unmoving. But then once all these changes were being made, he could not keep that consistency because that's not his personality and that he did not build that at Liverpool, which is fine. But I honestly I think it was the perfect transition out of Klopp World. Like, but with all this, well, all these changes, all these transitions, this is just really the start of the end of the Liverpool that existed when we first started watching, because there are 11 contracts that expire in 2027, and very, very soon that is going to be the forefront of everyone's conversations. What's gonna happen to Virgil? What's gonna happen to Allison? What is going to happen to all of these young guys that their contracts expire? So I am like grieving that and I'm just aware like one day very soon we were going to lose Virgil. I'm not going to be okay. Both Virgil and Allison are like my two favorites. So I'm just bracing myself and trying to enjoy what we have right now and just be just understanding that this is one big transition at the moment because we're not done. We still have some senior players to say goodbye to, and it's just inevitable with age and life changes and all that. So I'm curious to see what those conversations are gonna look like over the next few months.

SPEAKER_00

All right, we have some pre-season questions to kind of run through. And if you guys have any thoughts, maybe we just throw them out there. Uh, I think we did a version of this at the beginning of last season. So kind of help us get in the right mindset as we prepare for next week. First thing I'd love to know is if there is a match that you are most looking forward to uh in this, I guess Premier League season, because those are the matches we know so far.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, I do have a match that I'm the most excited about. I have to wait several months before we get there. But that is the Liverpool Coventry City match. I don't think we played them until J. It's like we played January, like both of the games were in the winter. I don't know how that happened, but I'm very excited. Um, I well, I'm we'll share my the whole story. But short story is a couple seasons ago, I made some friends at OLSC Orlando that were from Coventry City. They were in Orlando visiting, and it was just kind of like a cool football is awesome and like brings everyone together moment. Um, and so we talked about what if Coventry City ever made it to the Premier League, and they're here, and so I'm just really excited to get to play them. Um and yeah, I've been following them for since then. So very excited for that match. That's definitely the one I'm looking forward to.

SPEAKER_00

I think the other one that I'm weirdly excited for is we're playing Tottenham at Anfield for a festive fixture. I just feel like that is going to hit in a certain way. A Tottenham Festive Fixture always does, but with Andy being there, I don't so I I guess I am looking forward to it because I want to see him inside of our stadium. It's gonna hurt, but I keep telling myself he's gotta do what he's gotta do to be the best captain for Scotland.

SPEAKER_01

So that is not that you can look at it as a match that you're looking forward to, because that is on my list of matches I absolutely do not want to have to watch. I don't know. I just am looking forward to it.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

I'm so glad. I'm so glad. I'm maybe by December I'll get there, but right now it hurts me too much to think about it.

SPEAKER_00

Do you guys have a prediction for who will score the first uh not preseason, Premier League goal for Liverpool? Dominic's out wasly.

SPEAKER_02

That's my prediction.

SPEAKER_00

I'm going Florian Verts. Okay, I like that. I'm saying Isak. Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_01

We got three answers.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

I do think Esak's a good pick. He will because we'll be at Newcastle, and you know, I think there will be a little like I'm back in my old stomping ground. And like coming forward.

SPEAKER_00

Because he had some preseason moments, but like today he didn't really have well, he didn't have a goal, and he but he had some near misses, and so I just feel like I think it's coming his way, and I I'd like to see that. I really would. We've talked about some of our new signings. We've also actually not really today, but we always discuss our beloved coffee bar at the accent training center. So do you guys have a thought about a new signing and what their coffee order might be, slash if we'll see them at the coffee bar?

SPEAKER_02

I have an order for four people. Are we ready? Well, yeah, okay. Okay. Andoni cappuccino, Victor Munoz, he's gonna get a flat white. Jeremy Jacquette, he doesn't drink coffee because France doesn't do coffee well. They don't have good coffee, and so he has not learned the art of a coffee. So give it a couple of years, and then I think he will start drinking coffee, but he will not. And then Ronald Arajo, he will join the rest of the South Americans and he will just be drinking his mate. So he'll probably just ask for some hot water.

SPEAKER_01

I love it. I just can't wait to see them sitting there. That is all I want. And I know we've lost Mo, but we did game a gain a semicast, and we know semi is a very pro-coffee bar. And so I think he will bring them into the coffee bar culture, and I'm very excited.

SPEAKER_00

I think he and I think Milos will be a coffee bar patron. I mean he already is. I he is, but I think he's going to keep the up his coffee bar game. I was thinking about Victor because he's one of the players that I predict will spend time at the coffee bar. And I actually also put down a flat white. So Slay. We were very aligned. Slay. I originally put a latte, and then I was like, no, it's not quite right. And I was like, Sobo gets a flat white sometimes. So I think Sobo slightly in that exactly. Who I forgot like Sobo this season.

SPEAKER_02

I forgot that Sobo's order was a flat white. A flat white is what I ordered everywhere in the UK over the summer. We're the same. I am Dominic Sobosly.

SPEAKER_01

See, who doesn't want to be like Dominic Soba Sly?

SPEAKER_00

How many trophies do you think Liverpool will win this season?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I'm a bummer. And last season I came in hot when we did this prediction, and I said, Orwin in everything, baby. And this season, but that is very you. Yeah, it is. Um, I yeah, I think we don't win anything, to be honest. I'll be pleasantly surprised if we do. I just really think this season is about like building this team back up and developing young talent. And I think Ariola is gonna do that. And I think for him, this season's about like winning the fans back over and like developing this, you know, kind of understanding of what Liverpool is the next couple of years. So obviously, I know everyone's eye is on a trophy, everyone wants that. I think the players will work towards that, but realistically, I think just a really good foundation is a great goal. And, you know, I don't know, maybe we just learn a lesson. If you're a coach, don't win the Premier League your first season. Like, thank you. We loved it, it was so fun, but I don't want to do it again.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I just my hope for this season is that it's just fun to watch again, and we're not just constantly like, oh, just seeing how just the style of play for Andoni is so much more fun to watch, especially this game against Como. I just think it's gonna be a much more enjoyable game to watch again. And like you said, Molly and Doni went over winning over the fans again. I think it's just gonna be a more enjoyable season overall, but I don't think we're gonna win anything.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's okay. I also said zero trophies. Yeah, my hope is that just the team gets to maintain their heart amidst like so much change. And I really hope that we experience good moments and like triumph throughout the season, but I want to redefine that you can have that without a trophy. And so, what does it look like for us to have one without winning? Because it that feels like it got really lost, as for maybe the fans, but also as or for the players, but also as fans. And um, yeah, I just want to experience what feels like an epic journey without and like tie a bow happily ever after, you know. Okay, we have to acknowledge the departure of something that really defined our fandom last season, which was headbands. Okay, I would like someone to count the number of times we discussed players and their headbands last season, but between Dom, Kirkes, Ali, Frimi, all oh, MACA, I think had a headband one week. Did I make that up? I think you made that up. Okay, I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

No, he was predicted to jump at this on this episode last year. We predicted that he was going to jump onto the anime.

SPEAKER_00

But the headbands have left the chat, they are gone. They've been replaced with scrunchies, yeah. And Frimi's beautiful braids. Well, we'll get to Frimi's hair because I I will be going on and on and on and on and on. That is my bias record. Thank you. I love his new hairdo. I love it. Okay. I'm here for the scrunchies. I really am. I like the coordination with the outfits. I like that you can sometimes take your scrunchie out but then put it back in. There's some good content here, but I don't know. I'm gonna miss the headbands.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I'm very pro headband, but I'm okay with the headbands departing as long as the hair stays long. Correct. If we're if we're chopping our hair short, I'm gonna have beef. Pro long hair and scrunchies.

SPEAKER_02

I'm fine with it. Also, shout out to Coach Amy during the Rexham game. I mean, we obviously can't really see the colors of the headbands and all the details at halftime. Second half starts. She texts our group chat and says, Well, looks like Dominic changed his scrunchy color. And I was like, Thank you for telling the people what they want to know. Boots on the ground journalism, Coach Amy, way to go.

SPEAKER_00

So, in the spirit of hair, do you guys have a prediction for a player that you think might have a hair transformation or standout hairdo for this season?

SPEAKER_01

Well, we know Alexis McAllister is having a hair transformation. Um, I don't know that personally it's going to speak to me. But uh what I did love was his like AI recreation of him with Dom's hair. And you know what? If he shows up like that, I will have been spoken to. Um but really, Annika, I'm with you. I think from Punk's hair, no notes. I don't know who's gonna have better like it's better than Dom. Honestly, I think it is, and that's saying a lot. So I just like I'm like, if you can top Frimi this season, like be my guest. I just don't know how you can. I don't know how. Have we seen Allie in braids?

SPEAKER_02

Has he done braids yet? I don't think so. I don't think so.

SPEAKER_01

That I'd love that could be a contender. That could be a contender. I'd love that.

SPEAKER_02

I would want to know though for him to try the braids.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I think that would be good. I would love to see Dom in French braids at some point.

SPEAKER_01

Or Verge coming in braids. We've seen it in a picture, but if he showed up to a match in braids, yeah, that that's right. This summer there's a picture of him in braids. I don't know if that ever happening. That's the only thing that could top for me for me. Yeah. I would I would be floored.

SPEAKER_02

The Liverpool fans will have a cow if Dom shows up in braids again. Because the last time he showed up to the kitchen braids, we lost so terribly. Like it was. I don't remember him wearing braids. Off to look oh, it was it was bad. Everyone blamed the braids, every single person on the internet blamed his braids. That's such a key. He won't, he will not do that again, unfortunately. It looked beautiful, it was an away game.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. You know, like uh Kirk's last season. Like, I had no expectation for his hair by the end of the season. I was like, all right, you're gonna be blowing up. The rest of the world's having a lot. I could see, I would love to see Connor Bradley address his hair. Just in any way.

SPEAKER_01

So then this turned into like, oh, let me call out who's gonna work on this. Connor Bradley, you're up.

SPEAKER_00

His Irish hair is not gonna do anything more. Or Victor, it'd be cool to see Victor try a new hairdo. Yeah, I just I love his red, it's just I know it is cute. No, I don't want him to change the color of his hair.

SPEAKER_02

Just I know, but I just I think I love his curls, like it's beautiful. Yeah, it is cute. He could just tend to a little bit more, but I'm gonna need Harvey to not be weird about his hair.

SPEAKER_00

But I like it when he does his ramen hairspray and how like particular he is about it.

SPEAKER_02

Betty, it doesn't look good enough for you to care that much. I'm really sorry. Oh, I love it when he does that. For some reason, it really icks me out. But you know whose hair didn't ick me out today, which is surprising? Arajo's hair. Love it. Normally, it's great. Normally, when it's like bleached on top like that, I don't like it. It gives me the ick. But the tone of it was really good. I would say suits him so well. It really does suit him very well. No, I'm glad that Cody did not show up show up like that because maybe Cody's hair looking like that last season. That was the problem. That was the problem.

SPEAKER_00

Honestly, yeah, it was not that was bad. No, for me, I I can't get over it. I won't get over it.

SPEAKER_02

Also, shout out to the announcers after the match asking Kirkz, what type of aftershave does Dom wear? Because it smelled really good and we could smell it throughout the entire tunnel. I'm like, these are the questions that people want to know. Thank you for asking him.

SPEAKER_00

See, thank you. He was like, Some people wear perfume. I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

So the fact that we just talked five minutes about hairstyles on a pitch. I will never apologize about that. No. No. This these are the important conversations.

unknown

Okay. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Well, speaking of our parasocial connection to their hair. Do we have any predictions for a friendship duo that might emerge this season? I have two.

SPEAKER_02

Araho. And Frimy, I think, are gonna make a good connection. Oh, I just feel like they are gonna become buddies. But I would like to give an honorable mention to Simmy and Frimi because yes, they did like preseason last year, I think, together, but Nay, they actually now get to spend a lot of time together. Seeing the two of them at the coffee bar and really in all the um the behind this the training stuff, I really think that they are going to actually get to be really but good buddies.

SPEAKER_01

The definition of kindred spirits. Yes. Yes. They're so similar. I love yeah, that's a great pairing.

SPEAKER_02

So I don't that's not an unlikely friendship. It's just I cannot wait for that to blossom.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I think that's great. I support that. I think last season I did myself in so bad with Kerkes and Cheese that I actually don't know how to move forward from that in many ways. I think we just let it go. And so, yeah, I've been thinking about Kerkes because I feel like he was really tight with Mo last season. And so I feel like he's gonna end up emerging with a new friendship, but I have no idea and I just can't predict it. No, he's just gonna follow Dom wherever Dom goes. No, I think Dom is gonna commission him to go out and make friends. Well, we'll find out not in like a bad way, but just like build community, build team work.

SPEAKER_01

I think he wants to do that. I've just ready to throughout last season and preseason, I'm just really impressed with Kirk as like his leadership, how much he's grown. And I think he will seek those out. Like, you know, I think he wants to be somebody that's like bringing in the new guys.

SPEAKER_00

So yeah. Does anyone have a hype song for this season? Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Malian, I want you to go first because you might have one of the ones that I have. It's unpredictable. So okay.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I would like to return to the roots, to the core of the Liverpool girlies. And I don't think we've ever we'd really talk about this person on this podcast, but in our actual lives outside of this podcast, we talk about Dua Lipa all the time. And I just think going into the season, we need to return to the essence of Dua Lipa. Yes. And so I would like to propose that we have a a resurgence, a rebirth of One Kiss as the song of the season. I love that.

SPEAKER_00

I always support One Kiss. That's great.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. That surprises me and doesn't surprise me all at the same time because when I first saw this prompt, hype song for the season, my first thought was Dua Lipa. And I was like, that's too obvious. I can't pick that. And then two obvious from Molly Ann. She's not gonna pick it either. So, and then you said we're gonna go back to the roots of the Liverpool girlies. Wait, nope, we did not pick the same thing.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I was like, I'll be surprised if you pick Dua Lipa.

SPEAKER_02

Nope, nope, nope. And I can't decide which one of these I like better. But this is new era Liverpool girlies. One of my options is 2.0 by BP by BTS. It's like a literal reset. So like the core system remains, but it's we're just elevating it a little bit. Uh the lyric, come back for what's mine, we don't stop. Now throw away the unusable junk. Going to collect, take the time to get back to the grind. I can just I can just see it, you know. Thank you for the mic drop. Thank you. Thank you.

SPEAKER_01

Also a BTS song. Mic drop. Okay, yeah. I wasn't in the realm of like a br us bringing in our I like the creativity, the branch of like we're picking our own song for the season that is not already adjacent.

SPEAKER_02

We're yeah, we're bringing our personal hype song. We're picking up giving them the hype song that they need to use, you know. Yeah, I love it. The other option from the same album, hooligan. Boof, controlled chaos, raw energy, the rejecting the polished expectations, you know, asserting dominance. They must be acting a fool again this season. Like I need them to be acting a fool again on the pitch. Okay. Take you out, take you out. What's the future? Where's the now? This is international, make it unforgettable.

SPEAKER_01

Like, I mean, I feel like almost anything the first half of I don't know what I was gonna say could be, but those are two incredible picks. Thank you for a hype song of the season.

SPEAKER_02

I love it. I mean, both of them feel really hype too, not just the lyrics. Like, I put them both on their training center playlist. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I love this. I will. I had two options that came to mind. Uh, one of them was a BTS song as well. Uh, I had body to body because I was thinking about Areola winning back the fans and just like, I need the whole stadium to jump. Like, we have to be in this, we have to be together. Um, so that was my BTS throw. But then really, this I think the one I would pick is this summer at the stadium. I don't remember which one it was, but they played um Mr. Brightside uh at the beginning, and it was just really fun, and that was like a core memory vibe of just singing with my friends and watching Liverpool, and Mr. Brightside was playing. So Mr. Brightside World Cup now.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, except I watched it at a but yeah, but at the preseason.

SPEAKER_01

So no, you can never go wrong with Mr. Brightside.

SPEAKER_02

No, that's the way it was coming from the way. You do.

SPEAKER_01

And you then please We are in our late 30s. Thank you.

SPEAKER_02

Shout out the holiday. Great time.

SPEAKER_01

I love this. I love this.

SPEAKER_02

If anyone has their own hype song that they want to add to the list, please tell us. Um, Annika has created a playlist. We, whenever we're watching the training center videos and we hear songs that they're playing in the training center, whether it's just like around the center or when they're lifting, especially, it goes on to the training center playlist. So if anyone wants that link, just let us know. Because it's like a bangin' playlist. I need to listen to it more.

SPEAKER_00

Back to a little bit more of serious matters, you guys. That was a good well, it was, but some people might want to hear our thoughts on the game. So I don't know. Don't know why. Um, truly. So we do have a vice captain C vacancy presently. I mean, do we have this?

SPEAKER_01

The fact that they haven't even announced it yet is crazy. I can't remember if they announced anything before like the actual season started. Like, I don't remember knowing it was Andy until like we were in the Premier League season.

SPEAKER_00

I don't see a world where it's not Dom. Yeah. Like I was like, I think there is no co-captain or it's Dom. Yeah. Period. Moving on. Is that end of discussion? Yeah. See, okay. Cool. No other option. Great. I mean, we yeah, we don't need to talk about it. Yeah. Do you guys have a player that you are most excited to watch this season?

SPEAKER_02

Do you have Ani Leone?

SPEAKER_00

Good one.

SPEAKER_02

I since he got injured, I have been anticipating the day that he comes back. So like I literally cannot wait to see him back on the pitch. I cannot wait.

SPEAKER_01

I much like last season, am very excited to watch Miles Kirkez this season, especially under Ariola. I just think he's gonna flourish. And I loved it last season. I'm gonna love it this season.

SPEAKER_00

My gut instincts are actually players I'm probably not gonna see this season. So that's uh traumatizing, which is Hugo Ekitique, because I mean I will, but like way later. And then also in the preseason, I loved watching Enduque, so that leaves me literally heartbroken that we do not get to keep him basically. Yeah, he may be back in January. There's a chance we get him back. So yeah. I'm excited to watch Florian because watching him in the preseason, uh seeing his like problem-solving brain off the ball just reminded me how smart he is. And so I want to continue to watch him be able to implement what he's his like vision that he's seeing. And I'm really excited about his new position behind Esack. So that is what I will say for the start of the season. Next question: jumping ahead to Champions League. How far do we think we're gonna make it? Yeah, it is my favorite. We've been knocked out by PSG twice in the last two years. So, how far are we gonna make it this year, you guys? There's a lot going on. I think it will be a success if we make it to the semifinals.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah. That would be really love to make it. Yeah, yeah. Yes, I think that would be great. I kind of anticipate making it to quarterfinals, like kind of the same that we finished this last year, but I think if we can get to the semifinal, that would feel like really, really good. Totally agree.

SPEAKER_00

And hear me out. I would just love to not play PSG. Like, could we just not? That's really what I'd like. But yeah, I agree. I think quarterfinals would be really good. But the question that we ask ourselves really weekly is is this week the week that Joe Gomez scores his first Liverpool goal?

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

And the answer is always yes. What when is it? When is it happening, you guys? Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Picture this. It is the spring, is our match against Arsenal, 99th minute winner at Anfield, right in front of the cop. That solidifies our Premier League win.

SPEAKER_01

I just said we can win the Premier League this year. Hey, I know if it happens, I'm not gonna. Joe Gomez can make it possible.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

That wouldn't be that's in my mind stuff. I'm with you. Like wherever Joe scores, like it is going to be a monumental goal. Like, I don't want it to be like we're already up 6-0 somehow, and like he dinks win in. I will still like freak out, fall on the floor, be crying because I'll be so excited. Yeah, but like I need it to be a moment.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah. You know, sometimes when we have a 4 30 a.m. match and I'm like, and what if I slept through it and just watch the recording when I wake up? I think what if I miss Joe's goal? What if this is the moment that I miss his goal? No, I would personally love to see it in a festive fixture game because I really like watching those. It can't be during the festive fixtures this season.

SPEAKER_02

It can't. Because I'm not here. Oh. So it can't be when I'm not here. And it'll be at a time where I can't watch it because I'm gonna be in Asia. So I will miss all of them. So selfishly, no, thank you.

SPEAKER_01

I'll take however we get it, to be honest. Joe, give us the goal. But hey, guess what? As today draws to an end, we're one day closer to the Joe Gomez goal. Every day is one day closer to the Joe Gomez goal.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, it is. Okay, final question for you guys. I'd love to hear if you have a Liverpool hot take for this season. Yeah, I have a hot take.

SPEAKER_01

It is less Liverpool and it's more about myself.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Um, and that is my hot take is I will not be allowing the internet to dictate how I feel. And I will not be fighting the internet on a weekly basis, especially if we're not performing well. The internet can have their feelings, but I am not going to take that upon myself to tell the internet they need to chill out. So I'm gonna leave that in last season. The haters can hate, I'm not there for it, and I'm not here to mock to monitor them every week. Because that takes too much of my emotional capacity.

SPEAKER_02

What a great eldest daughter stance. What is it?

SPEAKER_00

So everyone's so punk on the internet.

SPEAKER_01

So I will just be here to love and support our players and our team and the Liverpool community. And if people want to be haters, they can be haters. And this was the last I will speak of it until I get really upset one week, and then I will bring it to the squorum. But that is my goal, mind you. That is my goal for this. And we'll play for play it for you when you get internet is their own thing, and I am not a part of the internet. Well, I mean, I am because we have this podcast on the internet, but I want to be on the positive side of the internet, and I'm not engaging with the negative side, even to tell them they're wrong. So this, my algorithm will be joy. I will be supportive, and I'm the fight the haters.

SPEAKER_02

When the haters pop up, that's when we can really rely on Jim and it's fine.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, I do. Okay, so that's my hot take. The internet, thumbs down. Me, thumbs up.

SPEAKER_02

The positive side of the internet where we interact and meet people, great.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's great. The negative side, I'm not here for it. I'm not doing it again. That took too much from me last season.

SPEAKER_00

So my hot take is very specific. I think if we sell Cody Gakpo, we will regret it. That is. I love my hot take. I totally agree. I just think am I saying Cody is our star and needs to start every game and should play all 90 minutes? No, I'm not saying that. I think we are building a really great striker pool, but I think if we let him go right now, we will regret it later on. We already have regretted letting Darwin Nunez go. Like, and while and Cody just played great for the Netherlands again over the summer. We have a new manager. He's been doing really well in the preseason. I think we need to see how he settles into this new team. We're changing so many things systematically. And I just think he's an old reliable. He's like not that much drama, he's consistent, he shows up, he works hard, and I want to do it. He doesn't get no, and I think that if we let him except his hand, his mystery hand injury for so long. I think he played through it.

SPEAKER_02

Like he played through the whole thing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so that's my hot take. I know it's there's talk about it. And I there are other players who I adore and I do not want to leave. However, I understand the conversation around them, and I don't necessarily think we would live to regret it. But I do think losing Gakpa would be a mistake.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Yeah, I agree with that too. So, well, now that we've talked through all of our preseason thoughts, we actually start the season next weekend. First match against Newcastle away. How are we feeling about this game?

SPEAKER_02

I haven't heard a lot of noise about Isak going back to the Newcastle stadium. I'm curious what those conversations are going to look like. I'm glad it has been a year since all of that drama was happening. I just feel like it's died down. Um, so I'm curious to see how that is going to go. But going to St. James Park is always difficult because we're not just up against Newcastle, we're up against that entire environment because their fans really show up. That is a tough place to be away. And especially for our first match. And you just don't know what it's gonna look like. After the match against Como, I am a little bit more positive. I'm a little bit more encouraged about how it's gonna look because I think we really did see what our starting lineup is gonna look next week. But um, it's not going to be easy, but I am excited for it. And personally, for OLSC Seattle, we have our new pub. It's a new season, we have a new member on the board. I'm just, I'm really excited for all the things that are gonna be happening here in Seattle surrounding Liverpool because it's just, we just get to kick that off this weekend. So I think I'm just most excited for just our personal fan environment around that. So I'm so eager for next weekend.

SPEAKER_00

I'm really hopeful about it. I think it'll be a good game. I actually like that we're starting away. I don't know why that feels like good to me. I don't know if it just like lowers the stakes a little bit to not be in front of our fans to just start it out. I think we've started away every single season since we started watching them. I like that. I don't know. Yeah, it's working for me right now. Um, mostly Anthony Gordon no longer plays for Newcastle. So there's a positive.

SPEAKER_02

It's great. Congratulations, I about that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I'm excited. I mean, Newcastle has a new coach, so I think they're a little bit of an unknown in transition at this moment, but I'm just excited for it to be back in for weekends to be full of football, of all varieties.

SPEAKER_00

Of all varieties. Oh, what I'm saying. Because if you think we're not gonna talk about the Seahawks and Auburn, you would be wrong.

SPEAKER_01

We lure you in with Liverpool and we talk about Seahawks, Auburn, and BTS. Thank you.

SPEAKER_02

Your homework is come back to us and let us know who your bias is.

SPEAKER_01

No, but I'm very excited. I'm also really excited to see what the first starting 11 is for Ireola. I think that will just give us like not a lot of information, but just more information of how he sees the team. Um yeah, so I'm I'm just really curious. I would assume kind of what we saw today is pretty close to who he thinks the starting lineup's gonna be. But yeah, it'll be fun to see like what he's chosen. And I'm I just really like him and I'm excited to see this season. I just think he's really going to be endearing to the fans, and I think he understands the heart of Liverpool. And like, I know we're moving away from this Klopp era, but I think he understands kind of like the core of what Klopp was is like what people are looking for and craving, and is like how we identify as Liverpool fans. And I don't think he is trying to be Klopp because you can't, but I think he understands like that essence and nuance and vibe, and I think he's gonna be able to bring that um to this team this season. So I'm I'm just really excited for him. He feels really warm, yeah.

SPEAKER_02
