WHO REMEMBERS? The UK Nostalgia Podcast
A nostalgia trip for anyone in the UK who grew up on dial-up Internet, Findus Crispy Pancakes, and playground rumours that couldn’t be fact-checked online. We’re not historians — we don’t do dates, and we barely do facts — but science says reminiscing gives your brain a dopamine hit, so think of us as your weekly dose of hazy memories, childhood flashbacks, and confidently misremembered events.
Expect frequent arguments about who remembers things properly as we rummage through the UK’s collective memory box.

Reviews, Praise, And Friendly Abuse
SPEAKER_01Hello, Liam. Good evening. Good evening. So it's listeners' comments. We said we're going to try and do these once a month, but I think we're we're a little bit over. And there's a lot of comments, isn't there, Liam? So thank you. Not you, the the listeners.
SPEAKER_00We asked for reviews, we asked for comments. You delivered.
SPEAKER_01And six people delivered from uh six people delivered, and I'm gonna um and they're all quite like Which is about fifty percent of our listener base, I think, isn't it? Yeah, exactly. That's a fifty percent of you stepped up, and they're all quite um uh insulting, really. But yeah, so let OB. Um indeed really shambolic remembering, a nostalgia podcast where the two hosts and self-professed prote professed professional rememberers actually remember very little, which is obviously part of its appeal. So that's yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um do we think that's um I think that's um yeah uh Ms.
SPEAKER_01O'Brien, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but I don't I don't know if we should have said the name if that's not what they've chose to call it. It might not be them.
SPEAKER_01Might not be them, might not be them, could be, but anyway.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it could not be.
SPEAKER_01LL Marky P says the finest insomnia cure on the internet. If you're a British citizen of a certain age who wants to violently argue with your phone about the structural integrity of a 1996 Fit Finders Crispy Pancake, or the exact tragic runtime of a nineties public information film, Who Remembers Is Your Spiritual Home? So uh yeah, thank you for the first time.
SPEAKER_00I mean there's a theme in there like that that we're sort of being called out within the positivity as as that we're not as good at remembering as we think we are, but I no.
SPEAKER_01But Ronnie Pickering, Ronnie Pickering who just simply says one of the best on the airwaves.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you can't argue with that, can you?
SPEAKER_01You can't no. Uh Gorilla Pimp Jr. said one of the best light hearted funny podcasters to listen to. Love how it's premises, remembering things, and then they but the that they then totally forget or get wrong. Um yeah, he says that the mate's banter is great, so thank you for that. That's that's a nice one. Um, but yeah, once again, leaning into the uh the uh the the I don't know, the myth that we we we've got.
SPEAKER_00I mean there's a there's a certain skill to sort of be top rememberers but pretending that you don't always remember things. I think we're clearly we're on the money, aren't we? We've got it.
SPEAKER_01Uh Ben K119 just said um it's like two mates chatting wonderful nonsense with great humour. Uh we've listened from the the start. Cheers, lads. Really appreciate that. But once again, a little bit of a bit of a dig in there. Wonderful nonsense. Um yeah, and uh Mega Hall said, uh, I enjoyed the role show living with Maidley, but enjoy this one even more. Natural presenters who entertained throughout, especially with their range of impressions from Kilroy to Roy Keane. Imagine if you've never heard this and you just read that. Can you imagine if you've just never you think what what could what how is that?
SPEAKER_00To be fair though, that does sound like uh do you know when they used to read out uh what were the BBC impression show called?
SPEAKER_01Oh, not John, not John Colshaw.
SPEAKER_00No, I think it was the uh what's his name? I want to say Alistair Campbell, but it's obviously not.
SPEAKER_01Oh uh no, uh Alison McGowan.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but like weren't there sort of intros things like have you ever wondered what it'd be like if Roy Keane presented Oh yeah, like family fortunes, yeah, yeah, but it is a bit like that.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, so thank you for everyone who's put an Apple. Keep banging on the Apple reviews because apparently um it means something. So uh yeah, thank you to everyone who has.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and and kind of you know, like we we're quite ashamed to be asking for reviews and like, so so take that into account when when you think should I do it or not, and and probably use that as a reason to not do it.
SPEAKER_01So no, no, no, yes, we get embarrassed. We're not we're not one of these, all we like sort of like smash a like, give us a like, um you know, like and subscribe, share it with your friends.
SPEAKER_00Apparently it does help the algorithm if you get more of those sort of things, and we are quite kind of close to the next stage, so it would be nice, but yeah, it we you know but like England, we're stuck at the semi-final stage. Can't get over the line, can we? Can't get over the line, remembers to try and get us over the line and uh we still stumble, we're still failing.
SPEAKER_01We should do it in German. See if we can get any more listeners.
Classic TV Memories And Misremembering
SPEAKER_00I'll move on to the most watched TV episode. Um, yeah, most watch TV. So uh it's hard to read that name. D Dinibus Maximus. Uh, great stuff, lads. One of my enduring TV memories was Ken Ball over Mike Baldwin, Feud and Cory, in which they both decked each other with single punch knockdowns, but four years apart. Um yeah, Ken dished it out first in '86. Like World Cup, World Cup years, isn't it? Ken dished it out in '86, sending Mike over his office desk. And then in 19, Italian 19, Mike got his own back in the row of his return, knocking him over a table. Uh left him humiliated and thoroughly beaten with a single shot, iconic stuff. That is true though, though.
SPEAKER_01That I mean, that is yeah. I have seen both of these fights. Um, I think Ken's probably got a better punch. But he were angrier, I think, Ken at the time.
SPEAKER_00I heard uh I was listening to some old two mic stuff and Mike Parry was on about somebody getting a beating, and he was saying obviously in real life he'd have his teeth all over the floor and he'd be going making weird noises, but yeah, he said uh in films people have the ability to withstand huge amounts of beating.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00But they're just gonna take one shot and they're done, aren't they? One shot. Who do you think is harder? Barlow or Baldwin? Uh Baldwin, I would say. Yeah, I think Baldwin. I do think Baldwin, yeah. I mean, as we discussed the Mike Baldwin effect, he he's effectively there's more than one Baldwin as well. So exactly. He could gang up on you, couldn't I? Yeah. But Ken Barlow, yeah, he's uh he's a hardy sort of I don't know, just quite an old school sort of like a straight right hander, wouldn't he? I don't think he'd be into any sort of combination punches. Um Joff, quite simply, another great episode, reassuringly riddled with errors. Yeah, I don't remember any errors from that one, but I'll I'll take his word for it. Take Joff's word for it. It might mean his memory, like of like we might have corrected him on some stuff. He might be reassuringly riddled with errors.
SPEAKER_01I'm
Beckham 1998 And A Nation Bullying
SPEAKER_01gonna go on to the summer of 1998 because I shared a clip of this uh that went sort of that was a viral- I don't know what a viral means, to be honest, but a lot of people commenting it with the I don't know if you saw it, Liam, that were the David Beckham uh the day after France '98 when David Beckham got sent off and Beckham and they went to the first comment said he should be did you say it should be shot or hung or something? Yeah, she goes, it should be shot, to be honest. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, deadly straight face, yeah. It should be short for the way he let us down.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and he went back to his old school and asked these people at school saying, What do you think of uh David Beckham? He's let everyone down, aren't they? And they were like, Yeah, a little bit, yeah. Like these kids are ridiculous.
SPEAKER_00They say shot.
SPEAKER_01But it's bad because that's like pre um, you know, uh what's the what's the be kind and all that sort of stuff and mental health awareness. Like there'd be none of that.
SPEAKER_00Decades in prison for saying things like that now, can't we? Oh yeah, these days.
SPEAKER_01Is that the way it works these days, yeah? We got a message from someone called Kelly Brooks. I don't know if it's the you know, it's Brooks, but that might be Kelly Brooks. Yeah, it could be Kelly Brooks. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But she put what a horrible news report. Go into someone's alma matter to get kids to tear him down. Do Brits know that they're bullies? That's a serious question. Do Brits know that they're bullies, Liam?
SPEAKER_00Uh well, yeah, I mean this this this is proof. Like the the whole Beckham thing in all seriousness, I know we we touched on it in the episode, but it's it's mad looking back. The the amount of kind of abuse and hate, and uh and obviously the media stirred it all up and actually I think created some of it, but uh but yeah, it was it was absolutely bullied and fair play to him. He uh he stuck with it. He rolled with a punch.
SPEAKER_01I think he won the treble year after, didn't he? Yeah, he did 99, didn't he? Yeah, won the treble year after. It's funny because obviously this World Cup when we scored against Norway, um obviously Beckham's going mad, and Victoria's next to uh she shouldn't move, does she? Have you seen that footage?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because there's an AI version where he picks her up and throws her from the stand, isn't it? I don't know if you've seen that.
SPEAKER_01No, I think you've mentioned that to me, but I've not seen that yet. Um but yeah, so everyone's like saying, Oh, I'll look at her, she's not a real you know, blah blah blah biting she cheer in. And so you've got to remember 30 years ago, she was getting like the biggest abuse of all time for being married to the guy next to her for purely for getting sent off at a match. Alan Shearer said, didn't he, in the commentary, didn't speak to him after.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he was that angry with him.
SPEAKER_01She used to get massive kind of chance from England from what you'd say at games, so yeah. It's the ass and stuff, weren't it? I think. Yeah, I can't remember. Uh Josh said, You see, kids back then, you could say you could be shot on the news. You didn't need to be online cowards. I like how he's seen it as like sort of like do you know what I mean? Like that's the takeaway. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, that's what we used to be like. Uh Ben Leo of GB News. So we've got a lot of um famous faces who have joined us recently from um various uh news channels. And Ben Leo, GB News is one of the beasts. Famous faces, I think about three. Yeah. Yeah, that's a lot for us. Faz that's all for our audience, isn't it? Fascinating, he said. Anyway, like Beckham or not, he went on to win the treble for United after this. Proper mental strength. The abuse he endured was hundred and time hundred times worse than the stuff we hear about today, and you'll never get a whole nation hating one player ever again. That's true. I think in the whole nation. The nation we hated three at the last tournament, didn't we? So yeah. I mean, the head the nation seems to be coming together to hate two club at the moment, don't they?
SPEAKER_00So yeah, I don't know if his third place victory has had any impact on that. Um I mean, probably probably worth pointing out, by the way, as well there, that that that Ben Leo of GB News is commenting on the social media post and probably hasn't listened. He might listen.
SPEAKER_01Is that fair to say? Well, Dan Dan Morton follows us, so you know, who knows he might have given a tip off and said, Yeah, I can't do his accent, he's Australian, isn't he? You want to see the I can't do it. You want to see these guys? Guess what it is, mate? I don't think he'd say that, Jim. Jack and Jack said it should be short that's slightly over the top. An oil trader replied, No mercy. I love that, no mercy. Uh R me Zeno said, How comes Rooney never got that?
SPEAKER_00But sorry, just to jump in on a tangent, it should be short slightly over the top. I love the bit on uh the old XFM, which we might do an episode on where we're in talks with it's kind of grown in something bigger than we can handle at the minute. But yeah, yeah, yeah. I love there's a line in uh XFM shows where they're on about uh if Carl Pilton have got Anne Frank in his uh in his attic, and he says a German officer at the door, and he says, Right, can I come in and check your attic? And if I find anything up there, I'm gonna shoot you and your whole family along with her. Carl Pilton says, Seems a bit unreasonable.
SPEAKER_01Seems a bit unreasonable, yeah. No mercy. Anyway, he said, How could Rudy never got any hate for stamping on a man's balls and cost in England? But I think that that England always needs a hate figure. In this one, it's too cool. I don't know who it was actually in the in the last euro, probably Southgate, Southgate in Italy, and then and the guys who missed the pens, obviously. Kane for missing the pen against France. In this one, Rooney got away with it, I think, because everyone hated Ronaldo, didn't they?
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, agreed. Yeah, so well, and I think Rooney got his kind of share of hate, but more for his uh getting bulled by your own fans. Yeah, he got more.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. Um and on that actually, Gothica Go Go Gentlewoman said hate and misery are at the core root of this country's identity. So two calls obviously saying we've got uh no DNA. DNA, yeah. That is DNA. It should it should lean into that, the hate and misery. Uh Lennox says, I'm just deep in, I don't really know what that means, I presume it's like a young man's term. I'm just deep in that this was a round of 16 game, everyone was acting like it was the World Cup final, and it is weird that that 2-2 against Argentina. I'd love to know how much Argentina talk about that because to us that's like a legendary game, and it was just a second round match.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's funny, yeah. I I even though we talked about it really recently, I I had in my head as a later round game than that. Yeah, fair point, fair point well made Lennox.
SPEAKER_01Uh Club Club Haynes says, I refuse to believe even the Brazilians or Argentinians but head straight to the disgraced stars players' hometown and goad anyone they can find, including children, into piloting out how much of a terrible person he is on prime time TV news. That is what we do it truly like no other with an England flag.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean I suppose they kind of counter to that. I I don't know if this is true or like Urban Legend, but was there a Colombian player in Mr. Penn who got shot when he got up? Who literally got shot?
SPEAKER_01Is that yeah, he scored an own goal when he got shot, yeah. But I I think that's a bit of a I think that's a slight myth. He did get shot, that's not a myth, but I think it was something to do with a betting thing that had gone wrong. And I I I've got a I could be wrong here, but I think he got they got the wrong man, and I think it's a bit of a myth that he got.
SPEAKER_00I was totally caught off the plane on the shot, which I've always thought was slightly. No, that didn't happen. No, he'd get that two different versions, two different versions.
SPEAKER_01Um on the Beckham Dartboard thing, by the way, Matt says Paul Daniels catching strays, because obviously he's one of the people on the dartboard, and uh Matthew replied, well, didn't reply, but obviously uh comment as well, saying it's wild that Beckham's the bullseye for being sent off, but Colymore's only 14 for domestic abuse. Yeah, because he goes like because he talks about him like knocking a eureka about, but somehow Beckham getting sent off's worse at that point. Stick him at 14. I don't know. Deadbart slagging us off. So he hopes because obviously we recorded that episode in real heat. So he hopes the heat altitude in the Azteca does not affect England like it did the remembering boys. He says we mixed up Soccer AM and Soccer Saturday, Big Brother and Big Breakfast, Rod Gear Events. He says everyone has a day off, even the top recall guy. So at least he knows, you know what I mean? It's it's you know, you get away, uh you have to be a good thing. He's seen how good we should remember. Well, he says they'll shake it off and go again, and he says, but he also um he might get in touch with Ofsted because you said you had three periods in year ten, and he said he's never heard of such a slack attitude to education. Uh without the full hours helping you to recall revised facts, it might have had an impact later on in life and the ability to remember things.
SPEAKER_00Well, they weren't free periods, I think they were classed as study breaks. And I can't remember like how many you you got, but it it sort of Yeah, there were definitely mornings because we used to go in and play uh I think it was called Killer. You know, where you like Yeah, I'm not gonna explain it on here. Yeah, but yeah, we've got nothing to do with the S. I used to go in in a morning, even though I had a uh a free period of study period just because I enjoyed playing that. But yeah, you might be right, maybe maybe that could have been put to better usefully.
SPEAKER_01He is a teacher, he is a teacher, so we'll take his word for it. But you know, it maybe maybe maybe things were different back then.
SPEAKER_00Nick says uh he's right to call us out on a call me out on a free period because he's got like six and a half weeks off coming up very much. Yeah, yeah, you know, if anyone knows about free periods.
SPEAKER_01Uh Nick says he don't he doesn't know why, but you saying I've got a fan blowing on me and the dog sat panting in the corner absolutely creased him. It was horrible, weren't it, recording that? I think we both regretted it, didn't we?
SPEAKER_00Um after it was genuinely uncomfortable. And I know that's that sort of very moaning, whinging sort of thing that we do. Like we look forward to summer, and then when we get it, we moan about it. But it was uncomfortable. Yeah, it was just really unpleasant.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Uh James said, just find a comment on this episode. 1998 saw the UK absorb of lot a lot of US pop culture, mainly due to the internet, cable, satellite TV, and the end of Brit Pop. Because obviously we said that was 98 the beginning of the end, and he's probably right that everything just became a little bit the internet started getting off and it and the scenes sort of slowly sort of dying out and stuff because everything was so interconnected.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, again, I yeah, I think he's he's right. I think uh there's some great some great things from kind of incorporate some of that US pop culture, but yeah, perhaps perhaps we lost some of the the British identity back then.
SPEAKER_01I don't know, but the DNA, the DNA of hate stopped at that one.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, uh right on to you, William.
Cereal World Cup And Childhood Sugar
SPEAKER_00The serial world cup. So Berlin Blade, good listen. My favourite as a kid was to mix a bowl of cocoa pots with frosties, the milk will go chocolate, and the frosties provided the backbone. You can only imagine my glee that they were the finalists, double gold winners. I mean, it was hard to split them. I I'm not sure my take on that. When I when he first put it, I thought, nah, that that won't work. But the more I thought about it, the more I thought, actually, do you know what? I'm quite forgiving our go cocoa pops and frosties. So I think next time we get like one of these multi-packs, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I think we should have chapels at Lennon.
SPEAKER_00That's perfect time for a caravan breakfast, yeah. Yeah, I think so. Yeah. Uh Jack, uh, it was always a mix of frosties and rice crispies kind of guy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, people mixing them. I never mixed it, mate. Oh, and that's it.
SPEAKER_00I don't know if I missed out. Maybe this is this is where we went wrong, maybe. I don't know. But uh Chango Mutler, I think it's interesting to consider how many of these cereals were liberally sprinkled sugar on as kids, but as adults enjoy sugar free. Wheat of big shreddies, cornflakes, uh, etc. PS shredded wheat shit, no matter how much sugar. I've never been a shredded wheat man.
SPEAKER_01I mean, to be honest, I I think because you can't eat three because you're a coward.
SPEAKER_00He's obviously England's even a bit of three shredded wheat. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, exactly. I would say I would differ on that because I would say it isn't just that I now eat them without sugar, I now just don't eat them. Like so now, like because I can't sort of in all good conscience sort of put tons of sugar on stuff, I've just stopped eating them to be honest.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, I think that's fair. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Dead bar uh we'll say for the first time I found myself agreeing with Leroy one uh Leroy's 606, which is me, on most of his opinions. Normally I'm waving my fist or cursing him on my weekly run. Uh for me before the tournament, he would go number one, Frosty's, number two, ready break, number three, rice crispies. Uh the latter got a tough draw with Tony in the quarterfinal. Frosty's are still my go-to cereal now, even approaching 50. Uh, ready break, I also still have at a dollop of golden syrup. Yeah, I must admit, I do like uh if if occasionally I do have any of these breakfast cereals that need a sweetener, I probably would go to golden syrup rather than sugar now.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I agree. I yeah, I do agree with that. Yeah, totally.
SPEAKER_00Uh Nav, very interesting episode. On an unrelated note, I used to love mixing up cereal. I mean, it is quite related to a cereal cup. On an unrelated note, I used to love mixing up cereals. But I suppose what he's saying is like this is an unusual mix for me. Wheatabicks with cocoa pops. That is a that's an odd one, that's another one we'll have to try out.
SPEAKER_01That is an odd one, I think.
SPEAKER_00Because you can't you kind of can't mix a Wheatabix without mashing it up. So did he would he like a sprinkling or or did he mash up the Wheatabix and mix them in? I'd be intrigued to know that. Yeah, I'd like yeah, let us know now. Let us know. Uh Andy, one of those listeners um appalled at the early Lucky Charms knockout. Yeah, I can I can I can feel the pain, I suppose. I remember the occasional frisbees on the box. Uh granted it wasn't anything to do with the cereal itself, but didn't talk much about the freebies, uh books, footy bean bags, uh to sell sugary food. Great pod guys. Yeah, but they touch on that, did we? You could get bike reflectors, um loads, you could pogs.
SPEAKER_01I'm sure you used to get like little like adventure books and things, I think, what used to be there as well.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. Um I don't know, you again you just everything's just you you pay more and you get less these days, don't you? So yeah, yeah, sad. Um Anj, uh can I settle the debate on the difference between all brand and brand flakes? Brand flakes are flakes, uh same concept as Cold Flakes, but all brand is weird sticks of brand, higher brand content, as mentioned. I mean it makes perfect sense. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Brand flakes are flakes. Yeah, it's good. Which to be fair, I don't know why we can wear that out. Yeah, I think like the All Bran is well exactly as stated, like sort of weird stick things, like they're sort of little tubes, aren't they? So yeah, we I mean I as as mentioned once or twice already, we occasionally we will misremember things. Um Tyrone, outstanding pod, but ricicles have been absolutely robbed by Captain Rick in the mud. We were I don't think either of us were big ricle eaters, were we? I think no, no, no, no.
SPEAKER_01I think uh I make uh uh Noel Eggman's as well. He he thought ricles should have won it, but I just wasn't a big ricicles man.
SPEAKER_00I don't know if I've ever had a bowl of ricles and can't think of ever having one.
SPEAKER_01You're not gonna get them now, they've been discontinued, aren't they? Yeah, imagine you could probably buy one line for about 450 pounds, so yeah, we'll look into it.
SPEAKER_00We'll look into it. Um Nick, Porridge managed to feature three times Porridge Oaks, Quaker Oats, Ready Brick. And and this bit, yeah, I was kicking myself after this. Again, as mentioned, there will be occasional misremembering. Um the guy on the heart is Quaker Oats. I was getting confused with Scott's Porridge Oates, which has the guy in the chair. Again, it's it's easy. It's one of these things, innit? It's easy once you've seen the answer. But at the time when you're mid remembering heat of the moment.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's like when you're on a while to be a millionaire and you're like, Oh, yeah, of course I knew that. Yeah, sometimes it's tough podcasting, especially in the in the in the heat. I don't know if it were that hot then, but anyway.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I don't know. Uh Hodger, you can't believe there's no mention of infamous Choco Crispies debacle from nineteen ninety eight. Yeah, then he sent us a channel. Coco Pops changed its name to Choco Krispies for 14 months before changing it back due to a backlash.
SPEAKER_01I don't remember this at all. Because he said I can't believe you mentioned and I responded saying, I don't know what you're talking about. And he sent us a link to Yeah, Coco Potts changed its name to Choco Crispies in 1998. That's ridiculous. Why are they doing that?
SPEAKER_00It's a long period. It's a strange 14 months as well. Like I think if uh three or four months and you think it's not working. 40 months you've kind of passed the point where you've decided you're gonna go with it. Strange to go back at that stage, but yeah, that's it. They saw the light.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
World Cup Clips, Shilton, And Vuvuzelas
SPEAKER_01Uh odd South Africa 2010, which we did with Moman and Mika and Travelling Blade. Swayze said it's true that what they say about your first love for your first tournament. He says his memory is a vague of Italian nighter in Euro 92, but he remembers watching it all and he has massive nostalgia for that tournament. World Cup 2010 remembers England being rubbish and the awful Vuva's ailers, and there were some decent matches in the latter stages. Not one of the better tourneys, though, he doesn't think. He says he still thinks France 98 was one of the best World Cups he's seen. Um 2002 was great too, and 2014, even though England were dreadful, were good.
SPEAKER_00Um I mean '98 was one of the best. Uh obviously nighting was out first, as as mentioned, but yeah, I I would I would go with '98, I'd I'd agree on that.
SPEAKER_01Steve, do you get this? Waka waka.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's the South Africa song that Shakira did, wasn't it?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, is she playing it this year? Well, obviously, as we record, I think this is going out the same day we record anyway, but uh isn't she playing it this year's half-time festival, Shakira?
SPEAKER_00Festival. Festival now. It's like a three-day festival at half-time.
SPEAKER_01Can you imagine? That'd be coming to him now, won't it? A three-day festival, that'd be amazing. I'm I'm pretty sure she's playing. I could be wrong. Madonna's playing.
SPEAKER_00I mean, Beyonce's done the the theme for this one, so uh I kind of would imagine she'd do the theme song to this one. I only know one. Can you name me any Shagira songs? Yeah, um Hips Don't Lie, is that um never be near and she'd do hippie on my dear.
SPEAKER_01Did she do Devodu and your hips don't lie?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's uh um I can't I can't remember the line. There's a funny line in it somewhere. Um but she also did one that I like called uh She Wolf.
SPEAKER_01I don't think I've heard that.
SPEAKER_00It sounds like a because she gets the word uh into the lyrics, lycanthropy. It's just lycanthropy.
SPEAKER_01My one of my favorites, by the way. Is what's his name off steps? I'm irresistible. What song is that?
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna make you my I'm irresistible. Can't you see your it's funny that it's from Lee? I don't know why you lee from steps because he's like smuggly leaning on the steps, like he's leaning on the stairs like I'm irresistible. What if Edmund's ever said that like without any irony in all seriousness? How are you getting on? I'm irresistible.
SPEAKER_01I'll try and dig that out. I might try and share that if I find it. Uh Ed said, Great pod. Uh his son is obsessed with the way you make me feel.
SPEAKER_00Sorry, is that song? I was just trying to think of it. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Just the way you make me feel. Um he says, my son is obsessed with the BBC Historic Games uh and wanted to Suarez and Ball, obviously we spoke about. But this is a great point, Mrs. He said it's similar to Maradona, he doesn't need to on ball it because his hand's in front of his face, so we could have just edited it. Arrogance, great player, but pure how many times did we see that Maradona Amball in this World Cup, by the way? It's like obviously they kept playing it when England played Mexico and they kept playing it in the semi-final. I walked into the pub to watch the semi-final against Argentina. Literally, I looked at the screen, it was that and ball. I'm like, how many times have I seen that in my life? Oh, hundreds, I would say. Absolutely mad how often I've seen that. Anyway, Webding said he said he enjoyed this look bite, but he's always a bit cynical, isn't he? Uh but is is concerned about you saying uh you have to give them credit when discussing the tactical Dutch violence. If he got stabbed to death, would his last words be? Oh well played. Well played, sir. Excellent swordcraft. I can actually imagine you saying that actually if you died in a in a duel.
SPEAKER_00In in a battle, yeah. I think if if it's if if it is excellent swordcraft, I think you've got to call it out for it. Not not if it's a football match. I wouldn't want to see anybody stabbed, obviously.
SPEAKER_01Well well, we'll see what the arders get up to tonight, as obviously. Uh Nav says, after the England Germany Lampard game, uh Adrian Durham said to Germany, uh said to Germany, said Germany should have given a goal to England to Mark Sagers, and Mark Sagers yelled at him for making such a ridiculous suggestion. If you've got a clip of that, I would absolutely love to hear Mark Sagers berating Adrian Durham for that, straight after the Lampard thing as well.
SPEAKER_00You can't you can't do that, can you? They where where does that end? Like you you can't start correcting bad decisions, it doesn't work like that. So Sagers was right to be furious.
SPEAKER_01Durham's been amazing this tournament, actually, where he just gives if England have a bad game, he'll happily give four or five players one out of ten, won't it in his ratings.
SPEAKER_00It's funny, isn't it? Because I obviously at drive on drive, he used to be kind of I wouldn't say shock jock, but like kind of where Rory Jennings is at the minute. He's he's looking for headlines. And obviously he's gone a lot more serious and sensible since he's doing this sort of round the grounds. But yeah, there's definitely moments of his uh kind of old school like well shit stirring basically, isn't it?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Desperately trying to create a bit of drama, but yeah, I'm all I'm I'm here for it. I love uh engineered for confrontation, engineer for confrontation, yeah.
SPEAKER_01We drew McGarden 0-0, he gave Pickford one out of ten. Can you get a one out of ten for keeping a clean sheet? No matter how badly you've played, you still kept a clean sheet. Yeah, crazy. James Dodd, this is interesting. This he he was the producer of the England Germany game for Talk Sport, obviously, for the famous its goal. Um he said when the Lampard moment was happening, he said the whole studio crew were in stitches, and he said they'd never laughed and cried so much in one moment, and that after Sagas was really, really embarrassed by it.
SPEAKER_00Well, I think he should own it, he should be proud of it. I think it's great, radio. Yeah, yeah. And it is, it's kind of funny, but also tragic. It's not yeah, you can feel his pain in it. It's got it, it's so desperate, innit?
SPEAKER_01Well, I'll just look at the next the next comment. JP Hackworth says, I swear you hear him going through the five stages of grief. We're not tripping each, it's a goal. It is, it's like, it's a goal. It's the hope. Like, oh no, no, no, no, they'll definitely I think if he did it like we should do a actually a full pod on the step by step, like what he's thinking. Yeah, because I think it starts with him's like sort of now they'll definitely overturn that.
SPEAKER_00I don't know what the five stages are, we'd have to look into it, but obviously there's anger, then it's the like regret, that's the booing acceptance.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And does he ever think he does accept it?
SPEAKER_01I don't think he gets to accept maybe by the maybe when he's having a go at Adrian Durham afterwards.
SPEAKER_00Miles over the line.
SPEAKER_01Miles over the line. There's depression with its goal, it's goal. Like that do you know I mean that's the depression bit. Like the yeah, oh yeah. It's a deal anyway.
SPEAKER_00It's a goal, it's goal, it's goal. Boom!
SPEAKER_01Brilliant. Uh Mr. Eagles said, Don't believe the hatred of the Vuva Zaylas. He said he'd much rather that than the whistling one team when they've got the ball. What do you think? I I I I don't think I agree with that. I don't know anyone who I've met, I don't think, who enjoyed the Vuva Zela.
SPEAKER_00I mean it's it's kind of become one of these things that's that's sort of people love to hate almost. Like I I kind of know what he means. I don't like the constant whistling. I'd I'd probably take the sort of Vu-Vuzela noise over like end the game, just constant whistling. But I don't think either's great. I think it's it's you know it's not a I'm not saying all of a sudden I love the Vu-Vuzela, but I I do I do agree I'd probably take it over the kind of constant whistling you get sometimes.
SPEAKER_01And I definitely take it over they've been the England band this tournament. Have they not?
SPEAKER_00No, no, no. I don't I don't know what's gone wrong. I'd I've not heard them. Well I I we were talking about in one of the England games saying listen out, see if you can hear them. Uh maybe they just lost in that stadium, but I couldn't hear them.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because I've been in Pub for most at games, to be honest. So it's that would make me sound like a real bit I know I've been at Pub made most at games. But uh yeah, so I've not actually been listening um to the to the commentary that much, to be honest.
SPEAKER_00So I haven't uh Right, let's move on to the World Cup funniest moments episode. I quite enjoyed this one to be honest. Yeah, well I think it's our most listening to episode actually. Interesting. Um LJD sent us a link to Peter Chilton saving a pen against Germany. Incredible AI.
SPEAKER_01I uh I th I replied saying something like, I wonder if he let him save it, because then when it came to the you know how efficient the Germans are, uh when it came to like the the actual penalty shootout, and did he think I'll give him a bit of hope and then put it past him? Because I don't believe Shilter saved it off his own back at all. Interesting.
SPEAKER_00It's a frightening thought. Um Mr. Earth sent us a link to uh a tweet of Tony Grieg, Tony Gregg, uh during filming of the BBC Superstars at Crystal Palace on the 22nd of July 1974. Greg came fourth but won the 50-minute swim and the football scoring five penalties taken against Peter Shilton. This is back to form Shilton, isn't it?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean that is that is crazy that this guy is not a footballer. Scored five penalties but that's a professional goalkeeper.
SPEAKER_00I mean you're not a bad keeper. You you'd fancy one in five against a non-footballer, wouldn't you? Yeah, possibly.
SPEAKER_01This guy's a cricketer, he's not in any way a footballer. Uh like and he scores five pens against a professional goalkeeper.
SPEAKER_00I think it shows as well that like he's so confident of scoring because sometimes like when you miss him as a as an amateur, it's because you train so hard to hit the top corner and you just go wide or over. I think he's so confident of just hitting the target and beating Shilton five out of five. Um, Carl Shilton was absolutely dog shit and didn't even deserve half of his caps scathing Carl.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, scathing review from Carla. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I mean the only thing I'd say is like obviously it's it's become a bit of a running joke like for us that he's so bad. He must have been a decent keeper, he must have been. But that what I found weird is like because I would talk to my dad about this. Like, obviously, it's hard to rate George Best, Maradona, because the only clips I see of them are doing world-class things now, like they're they're the clips that stood the test of time that you see all the time. The only clips I see of Shilton are him sort of messing things up and getting it wrong. So yeah, you never really see him pulling off like a world-class save, do you? Was he just sort of a steady, a steady eddy, like just a decent enough keeper when a time when people didn't want to be goalkeepers?
SPEAKER_01I've seen him play at Brahma Lane when I was really young, 1990. And I remember him pulling some great saves. If I was really young, I thought, oh I could I could see yeah, but he might have not because I was really young. And I remember I remember thinking, oh yeah, up against England's number one. Yeah, I thought like at that point that meant he was the greatest goalkeeper in the world. But yeah, uh, that's the only time I can give you any examples where I've seen Shulton play well. Who replaced him?
SPEAKER_00Was it Chris Woods after him?
SPEAKER_01Chris Woods, and he was he was poor, I think. Not just because he played for Wednesday.
SPEAKER_00Well, obviously, it's hard to not be biased on that, isn't it?
SPEAKER_01But it's not that he made a lot of mistakes against United in Sheffield Arpice. Um so I've never rated him. Then it was Seaman, who yeah, he was good, obviously, but he went on went on too long.
SPEAKER_00Well again, though, you can't kind of be unbiased as a Sheffield United fan again because he pulled off the best save of all time against Pesca Salido, didn't I?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, fantastic save. But yeah, Pickford might be the best I've seen, and I don't think he's like world class.
SPEAKER_00I think Henderson's better than Pickford, but but that's not that's not what we're here for. We're here to read out the listeners' comments. Um John, I'd love it if the machine gun guys upgraded to rocket launcher for this World Cup. I mean, that's I I love the kind of the idea of that. But that imagine walking outside and firing a rocket launcher because your team won. Although that how much more ridiculous it is than just shooting a gun into the air.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm gonna say shooting a gun.
SPEAKER_00If you're gonna do that, you're probably gonna take the next step, aren't you? Uh Sadcan, Ori Lineker and the Pooh Gate stay quiet for nearly 20 years as it wasn't really discussed until Glynn until Gary mentioned it in an interview, then it went viral. Yeah, I mean it kind of makes sense, although as we said at the time, like why why weren't the press at the time talking about it? Were they just embarrassed for him? Like, did he get away with it? Well, I think he just didn't say anything. No, I don't think they knew, and then in one interview Linica said, well, but then as soon as like he said it, and seemingly it became viral, it was very easy to find clips of like, oh, oh yeah, that's oh yeah, clearly a shit himself.
SPEAKER_01I shit myself in the middle of the World Cup. Love it.
SPEAKER_00Um uh most dejected manager, Keegan is surely up there when the fourth goal goes in at Liverpool. Keegan most times, to be totally honest, you've got to ask himself if Kevin Keegan's on up to the job.
SPEAKER_01Kevin Keegan, a lot of the the most heart on sleeve manager of all time. I think Gerard's up there as a player.
SPEAKER_00He's he's got a heart on each sleeve, hasn't he?
SPEAKER_01Oh, he's just the most honest. I don't I don't I think he's the most honest man. He's very no manager I know is so quick to blame themselves.
SPEAKER_00If that was him in the England game the other night, it'd be a very different press conference. He'd resign immediately. Yeah, yeah. Well yeah. I've let the lads down, I've let myself down.
SPEAKER_01Kevin Keegan's just not to wait at this level. When when Kevin Keegan gets to the semi-final of the World Cup, Kevin Keegan expects better from himself, and therefore Kevin Keegan will resign.
SPEAKER_00Kevin Keegan will accept his own resignation from president of Kevin Keegan. Um Ed, great, great list. My brothers and I found Batter Student's card approval funny once we got over the whole thing. I swear after the Sterling shot against Italy, the score line changed to 1-0 on the TV.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's when Sterling at the side netting. Um not really having a moment like that, I don't think, uh, this World Cup with England, where everybody thinks it's gone in. What I have noticed about a lot of England goals in this World Cup is a lot of them you were cheering before they'd gone in. You knew they were going in. Do you know what I mean? Like the Bellingham two against uh Mexico, the Bellingham one against Norway to win it, the Golden Goal and the semi, they were all like tappins, weren't they, if you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_00I think to be honest, I was cheering before they went in because Egggy had already put on a group chart, brilliant goal from England now. So I I generally, like 30 seconds before I saw a goal, knew it was going to be a goal.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, mystic egg, weren't it?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, somehow he got in front of like the commentary, didn't they?
SPEAKER_01Like the wive commentators were in front of the people there, he would text him two.
SPEAKER_00He knew Bellingham had scored before Bellingham knew he'd scored.
SPEAKER_01It'd be amazing though. If you could do if you could sleep four seconds into the future, how much of a difference would that make to your life?
SPEAKER_00There were there was a betting scam, weren't there, where people realised that at tennis games it took so like low-level tennis games, it took so long for the the score to update in the kind of whichever particular website it was.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So they realized if they were at the live games, they could get bets on quicker than the price of dates. So in a big big moment in a game where something swings a break of serve, that they could get ahead of it. It was quite a big thing at the time.
SPEAKER_01I think now it's the the problem now is obviously in a betting account is that they um suspend the bet, don't they? Like for if something.
SPEAKER_00If it's getting close to a moment, yeah, yeah, they suspend it. Yeah, uh, we don't advocate bets. I I don't bet anymore. We don't advocate that sort of stuff.
SPEAKER_01Would you not advocate but although if you want to sponsor us, we're we're happy.
SPEAKER_00You know, we would yeah, we would sell out, yeah.
SPEAKER_01We would absolutely sell out, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And a nice finish to the to this particular uh episode, Ben says Shaton Podcast.
SPEAKER_01Shat on podcast, yeah, yeah. Great stuff.
80s Cartoons Lists And Top Tens
SPEAKER_01Uh 80s cartoons, they'll be a lot of lists for this, which I can't be going through every list, it'll be the most boring.
SPEAKER_00By the way, yeah, on this, if if people did get back to us with their lists and we missed it, we've not read it out. Apologies, appreciate anyone who's took the time to see.
SPEAKER_01We have shared them to each other and said, ah shit, we missed that out. Glacier and Anders have started with this one because he was the one who asked us for it. Yeah, it was his idea. And interestingly, he's got the top same top three as we did, but in a different order. He had three He-Man, two Thundercats and one Turtles. So we were on the same page, so I'm glad we sort of you know we did him justice.
SPEAKER_00I think you can you can kind of squabble over the podium, but I think if you've got the same podium, I think you're you're thinking along the right lines, uh, Mr. Hernandez.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh John says though, good list, Lars, well argued. Um, but uh we didn't have transport. You're not reading the list out then, by the way, you're just picking out the sort of key I'll pick out the key ones. No, because I think it'd be yeah, yeah, yeah. But a lot a few people have said this. We we didn't mention mask, um, so we're dead together. I thought of mask. Yeah, but I don't think I ever saw it.
SPEAKER_00I think I saw it, but I don't I don't think I saw much of it. I seem to rem I seem to remember quite liking what I did see. I mean, I thought of another one that I don't think anybody's mentioned that I thought of along the same lines as Mask, which was Visionaries. Um he's got that at number 10, John, on his list actually. Maybe maybe that's to be fair to John, maybe that's what's juggled my memory. Maybe I've subconsciously seen that because you've got to be a very good thing.
SPEAKER_01Well, interestingly, his top four is Thundercats, mask, E-man and Transformer. So E-Man and Thundercats again dominating there. Did you mention pole position or did someone else message me about pole position?
SPEAKER_00I don't know if it was pre-recording, I might have sent you something saying what was the thing about the kind of two cars that had to race every every episode. Yeah, people mix it up with that the uh red car and the blue cars, yeah. Similar sort of theme to that, weren't it?
SPEAKER_01That they just had to race every week, I think. Um another couple that he mentioned that we didn't, by the way, in his list, uh Saturns, as you mentioned, Dino uh Dino Riders. Yeah, I don't know that. I don't think I know that, and visionaries, which I do remember and we probably should have considered.
SPEAKER_00I certainly I think I had a couple of action figures of visionaries. Yes, they had like a hologram on the banner, didn't they, of an animal.
SPEAKER_01Now Vad Raggidals is his number one and Shearer, she not Alan Shearer, She-Raw as his number two above He-Man in fifth, so that's that's interesting. Um I'd like to know now again, I've I've asked him for two things here, but if you can you give us a reason why you preferred She-Raw to He-Man. Um and the other ones that he's mentioned that we didn't were uh Around the World in 80 Days, which you were gonna have, weren't you?
SPEAKER_00I think I think I had that late on, but I think it got pushed out because you didn't have it in your top ten.
SPEAKER_01No, that yeah. Um Muppet Babies.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I don't I I know of that. Uh I didn't watch that. Um Yeah, Around the World Night Todays, brilliant theme tune. Uh really good cartoon, quite quite short, I don't know if it was just a couple of series, but I absolutely love that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um yeah, Raggedors are I think that's fair enough. At number one, I I wouldn't I I don't know. Brilliant theme. It's a good show, it's a good show.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Martin said when he heard on our previous pod we were gonna do this, um, he he were thinking Ulysses 31, Cities of Gold and Dungeons and Dragons, which we obviously had to put a disclaimer out because we were too young to remember that. And he says Terror Hawks and Trapdoor, but neither of those are cartoons. Because I think Trapdoor in particular would have probably featured.
SPEAKER_00Trapdoor was definitely on your first list that you did, and then we debated whether we could include uh an animation. Yeah, Terror Hawks, we keep being told to do an episode on that, we just don't know enough about it. I mean, apparently it's genuinely really scary, the bad guy, in it. So And normally when we do pause we have to know full the full thing, don't we know? We know all or nothing, don't we?
SPEAKER_01Normally, yeah, so yeah, there's a couple of things we don't know about, and unfortunately Terror Orks is one of them. Uh Gary says great pod as ever, although Henry's cart should be nowhere near the top ten. I think this is a little bit of regret of yours, isn't it, Liam? In a way.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, when I thought about it after, I think because when I was doing my research, I came across Henry's cart that I'd not thought about, probably in the same way as our live thought about in the episode Jimbo. It kind of I thought, oh wow, I've not seen this for whatever it would be, 35 maybe more years, and it triggered a real hit of nostalgia. But but once I've kind of calmed down and let the dust settle a bit, I thought it's probably not a top ten, is it really? So yeah, and I had it, I had it so high that it actually ended up featuring fairly high in the whole thing. I'd got it as one of my top two, I think, which actually, if if I were doing it again, it'd probably only if it was there, it'd sneak in somewhere near the back end of the top ten. So yeah, fair point, fair point.
SPEAKER_01But it does it does follow up, Gary Ferrari. Opinions are like arseholes though, everyone's got one. He said if Pigeon Street was a bit before our time, maybe check that out. Uh, an amazing theme tune, Pigeon Street, Liam.
SPEAKER_00I know of it, I can't tell you anything about it. No.
SPEAKER_01Another one as well, Ange actually says that uh the one that she expected to see in the top ten were Battle of the Planets. Apparently it aired in the late 70s, but aired in the UK until 1985. I don't remember Battle of the Planets.
SPEAKER_00No, uh I remember Captain Planet, but not Battle of the Planets.
SPEAKER_01Simon says, No mask, no battle of the planets, no mysterious cities of gold, no will o' the wisp, no Doc Tanyon, no Galaxy High, no Muppet Babies, and worst of all, no Dungeons and Dragons. Got a feeling Simon's a couple of years older than us.
SPEAKER_00Well well, Willow the Wisp was like 1920, wasn't it? It can't literally be 1920, but yeah, I think that was ahead of our time. I think there's a couple of those. DocTanyon, I agree. I think Doc Tanyon should be in there. Galaxy High is a good show. I never thought about that one. I'm not saying I necessarily would have put it in, but I I didn't consider that, so I will accept that that was probably worth some consideration. Yeah, I think yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh Dan says Penny Crane and Henry's cat in the top ten, but not Transformers, Mass Centurions, or GoBots. Absolute madness. Penny Crane's another one that probably shouldn't have been in that top ten. Yeah, I think completely.
SPEAKER_00When we mentioned it, said, Oh, what a brilliant theme tune, and how funny is it, Super Lords, innit? And it's never talked ourselves into how good it was. Well, it's actually again, it's probably not a top ten, I wouldn't really say that. You know, some some memories will be false.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Phil says, Can't believe, devastated, he says actually, super 10 didn't make it. Again, that would that were the closest one I think of the lot that to make the top. I think that were like tenth on both our lists, where.
SPEAKER_00I like Super Ted. I I think we mentioned it. I I was desperate to know what the magic word was. I I really liked it. Yeah. And I mean in hindsight, is it better than Henry's Cart or Penny Crayon? Yeah, maybe. But at the time we did the list, it wasn't. So didn't get in there, sorry.
SPEAKER_01KM 1984 uh quite quite uh aggressively says absolutely delighted to hear you nail the top three. Fucking lot was going up if any of them were missing. So again, is it with you know again? I think I think we did get the top three. I did I do think we got the top three right. Maybe not that the people have different orders, but the m the majority of lists that we got sent did have those at least in the top four He-Man, Thundercats and Turtles. Um Nick says, No surprise Andrew didn't like Transformers, not a very dyspraxic friendly toy. Bit harsh, but true, to be fair. Yeah, do you have any Transformer toys?
SPEAKER_00I don't think I did. I had mates that did. I kind of quite liked them. I just never just never really watched it. I I don't know, things I kind of would have liked to watch more of, but just for whatever I don't know whether there's something else was on at the same time that I liked or what. I just never really seemed to watch it. Same, I never really watched it.
SPEAKER_01I always used to think the theme was Transformer Trans Transformers, Robots in the skies, and it's disguise, isn't it? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, so I messed that up. But we've got a bit of credit for this, and people saying, oh, you know, good top three, whatever. Berlin Blade. I made a huge mistake listening to that shite for an hour. I've got an ifenated word for you both. Cat dog. I know, here's another re-record. Fucking fuming Berlin Blade about that list. Cat Dog were nighties, so he's embarrassed himself there, unfortunately.
SPEAKER_00And re-record, we we don't re-record, we just leave it as it is. So re-record, don't fade away. Yeah, so yeah. I mean, did he did he tell us which bits spit does he just think the whole list's wrong?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he he sort of named a couple of 90s ones that were were were, you know, and I had to pull him up on that um firmly but uh fairly, I think. But yeah, um but yeah, he's not he wasn't happy at all with that list. Um he won't mind that.
SPEAKER_00He doesn't mind you uh putting him in his place when you're done.
SPEAKER_01No, no, yeah, yeah, no, and he don't like he don't mind any of that sort of stuff. And uh I imagine he's probably forgotten that he he uh he he he he responded a lot to me.
SPEAKER_00Um move on to the theme
Theme Tunes And Playground Lyric Crimes
SPEAKER_00tunes episode. So this is the re release Living with Melee. I I don't know if we should really be doing comments on these because Yeah the comments were on the original episode, but but anyway, we've got it here, so welcome. Uh Carl said Fraggle Rock, Trapdoor, Raggedy Dolls, Inspector Gadget, uh shout-outs, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and DuckTales. DuckTales! Oh woo! All all great. I mean Fraggle Rock's incredible actually. Um trapdoor. I see, I don't I wouldn't put that in it's kind of quite nostalgic, but I don't think it's it's a song, really, is it?
SPEAKER_01I always go into blurred lines after that. I know you want it. I know you want it. Trapdo such a funny sort of thing.
SPEAKER_00Someone should mix that, yeah. With him like dancing around uh in the suits and stuff, yeah. Ruined his career anyway. Um yeah, Inspector Gadget. I I mean, I don't know. We were trying to not, I think we said at the time we were trying to not do all kids' shows because we could do a separate episode on just kids' TV themes. I think there was a conscious effort to try and mix it up a little bit, but yeah, all great shouts. I will give him that. Bobby B says Fraggle Rock again. Brilliant, yeah. I can't we said as well, didn't we? We might do um like schoolyard songs, like sort of dirty songs where people change the lyrics because there's definitely a fragile rock one that we could include in there. Well, yeah, that is the substitution, I think. But it's it's down a fragile cock. No, I think it's down at Fraggle Rock, grab a Fraggle by his cock, chuck him in the air, catch him by his pubic hair, chuck him in the bin, seller tape the bastard in. We might do an episode on them, do you know what?
SPEAKER_01I might clip I might clip that as our trailer for this podcast. That'd be amazing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but uh Lee says little as hobo. Um that's the um that's the way I'm going. Yeah um I can't think of the rest of it, but yeah, don't want that bit. Bill says the same, actually, yeah. Uh Jamie 18 Miami Vice, give us a clue. Give us a clue.
SPEAKER_01Give us a clue, give us a clue, bam, bam, give us a clue, give us a clue, give us a clue, bam, bam. Oh no, that's blank it blank. You're not saying it. We've got a new clip anyway for the episode. Blank it blank. I'm getting blank it a blank and give us a clue. Give us a clue. I can't remember give us a clue. I'll have to listen to that.
SPEAKER_00I can't even think what give us a clue is. Um I've when I first thought of it, I thought I'm mixing it up with Crosswits. Give us a clue.
SPEAKER_01Was it with Henry Kelly?
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_01That was um go in for go in for that's a good one, actually. The heaters on the time is right, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um A team as well, like obviously that is that is a classic. Yeah, we had that actually as one of ours, yeah. Uh Chris, Jamie and the Magic Torch. And a lot of people love that. I I didn't watch it. I don't know if it's because it's too early or again it's just it clashes something else. I I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Brilliant, that is a good Jamie, Jamieh, Jamie and the Magic Torch, Jamie.
SPEAKER_00Uh Magnum P. I, yeah, which I think I had as one of mine, didn't I?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you did have one of yours, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Airwolf, brilliant. Night Rider, I definitely had as one of mine.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Fall Guy, not sure what that is. No. A Team, yeah, Jukes of Hazard, Mysterious Cities of Gold. I mean to be fair, this this is a fantastic show. Murder She Wrote.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh Burgerac, can you spot a pattern here?
SPEAKER_01Um All detectives apart from the A Team and Night Rider and probably Mysterious Cities of Gold.
SPEAKER_00I mean Murder She Wrote, Jessica Fletcher wasn't a strictly speaking a detective, but yeah, maybe it's what is it?
SPEAKER_01What is the pattern? I don't know the pattern. TV theme tunes. Let's know, Matt, what the pattern is. I don't know what the pattern is between all those.
SPEAKER_00Um DMC, not a favourite. The theme tune gave me nightmares. Is it talking about the MC T?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's it's the picture boy box theme tune that we've spoken about before in uh the episode itself, not a favourite.
SPEAKER_00No, theme tune gave him nightmares. When school rolled out TV for this, I was terrified. Yeah, picture box theme, it does it does explain it.
SPEAKER_01Uh we might share that an episode where we talk about like in more depth. No, I mean like uh we've got an old episode where we talk about quite in depth theme tune. I think it was BBC educational shows, I think. But anyway, yeah. But yeah, on to
Noel Edmonds, Service Stations, And Goodbyes
SPEAKER_01the last little bit here. So thanks for sticking with us this long. Uh this is just a few bits of pieces of other things that we obviously reshared the Warlock episode and the show said Sky Sports every once in a while would air this late at night and always watch it and finish it. Brilliant. Who was picking up Lescott? It's gotta be Jaggy Elker, hasn't it?
SPEAKER_00Well, is the argument not that it should be Morgan? Like is he in or is he Morgan? No, because he's telling Morgan to stay. Fuck he could be kind of a fucking big cunt stay, other big cunt. Yeah, no, maybe then, yeah. Because he's because Morgan tries to go with Lescott, doesn't he? But he's saying that he's not your man. Is that what it is? Yeah, yeah, I think that's what's happening.
SPEAKER_01So I would like to know who's supposed to be picking up Lescott. Who's the guy on Lescott? Who's the guy on Lescott? Let us know in the comments. And Megahorse, the last comment, said, Did you know Noel Edmonds chose a motorway service station as his luxury item on Desert Island Discs?
SPEAKER_00I mean, if you want an example of one of the reasons I can't stand it, this is perfect. Why? Think about the arrogance of Edmonds as he's saying it. A motorway service station. I think he thinks that's so clever, like well, yeah, because it's it's got everything there, hasn't it?
SPEAKER_01Like what kind of an I won't that's terrible Noel Edmonds fucking uh uh impression. He's got it's an odd one though, Edmonds. You don't want to see people do him, do you, Edmonds impressions?
SPEAKER_00I can't think of anything distinctive about his voice that I could kind of latch on to.
SPEAKER_01How would you do him? That's really difficult, Edmonds. I mean, you could dress like him. I imagine what's not I can say Kevin Costner, Kenny Everett, very different person. Kenny, I remember I imagine Kenny Everett dressing up like him, you know, like we have big raccoon.
SPEAKER_00I think he'd or Vic and Bob would do it where he'd start turning into like a lion or a wolf or something, yeah. Like his sideburns, yeah.
SPEAKER_01But I don't think they'd be able to nail his his oh, that's a bizarre one that Edmonds. Where's he from?
SPEAKER_00Has he got any accent? Maybe he's not real. We I want to do an impression of him. I'm I I can only do an impression of Noel Edmonds by saying the right words. I can't do anything in my voice that makes me think of Edmonds.
SPEAKER_01No, uh where's he from? Uh Leal Edmonds. Neil Edmonds. I don't know. I don't know why I read that. Uh Essex. So he just sounds nothing like, does he? Um No, he's obviously sort of decided to divorce twice. So um yeah. So but married now to Liz Davis. So but yeah, thank you for all your comments.
SPEAKER_00Um we do uh why would you say Mobile service station though? Like like realistically what what what's his point? As a game, because everything's there, yeah.
SPEAKER_01But isn't is what is getting missed, yeah. What is what he's got wrong is it's not three wishes, is it? Do you know what I mean? It's not it you can't it's completely ruined the entire show, hasn't he, by saying that? Because you could have five things like that, like oh yeah, and I'll have a luxury spa. Uh do you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_00I'll have loads of people I'll have a luxury yacht. Like you can't you can't I'll have a yacht to get off the island, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, do you know what I mean? I'll have a really good I'll have a boat with the best ride with the best fucking you know teleportation device, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'll have that.
SPEAKER_00I'll have an helicopter. Um just imagine how smuggy was when he said it though, do you know, like he'll think they've not thought of this.
SPEAKER_01But he looks like an idiot because if he's gonna have that, like you say, he may as well have there's better things to have than that. And why does it have to be his motorware one? Why can't he have a massive supermarket? Yeah, I don't I why can't he have an Aldi on corner? Do you know what I mean? Why does he want uh anyway anyway? But thank you for that. We will be back with no no um Maidly archives this week's this is going out in in place of it, but we're back Tuesday with a very special guest, and it's not very nostalgic the Tuesday one, is it Liam? But we may as well say what it is. It's the it's the review of the World Cup uh 2026, because it is technically nostalgia. After today, it is nostalgic. Um and we've been keeping a note and a and uh abreast of things, haven't we, Liam? So we thought we'd finish off the tournament and give us you give us you give you our review.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, obviously, we're not gonna get too heavily into the the football analysis, it'll be more a review of the tournament, maybe some of the stadiums, the pundits.
SPEAKER_01Um it's gonna be a lot of fun, it's gonna be a lot of comedy in there.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah, I'd be surprised if not. Um yeah, we've got a special guest, I think, joining us. Is that am I right saying that? Is it yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Special guest uh joining us. He turned down watching some cricket, I think, to to join us. So thank you for that. Um and yeah, we'll we'll be that sounds like it's Ian Bothham. It's not Ian Bothham. Very good if we've got Beefy on, to be fair. It's Ian Bothham. It's in both them. But yeah, thank you, William, and yeah, uh see you on Tuesday for another episode.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and thanks everyone for coming. If you've if you've got all this way and we've not read your comment out, apologies. Do do keep commenting. We do we do try and sort of at least pick something out from everybody who commented, that is the aim.
SPEAKER_01So we've had a genuine I mean it sounds like we're bragging. We've had a lot, a lot of comments, to be fair, and I've tried my best to get all the big hitters in there who normally comment. Um but if not, I I do apologise.
SPEAKER_00With great success comes great responsibility.
SPEAKER_01Exact absolutely, exactly. So yeah. Thank you.
