What if the path to better skin is simpler than you think? We’re sitting down with Daimie from our Oviedo team to unpack how she went from makeup counters to a results-first esthetician, why clients crave corrective treatments, and how a two-step home routine can create real, lasting change. This is a candid look at building confidence—one honest conversation and one consistent habit at a time.
We start with her leap into esthetics during Covid and the moment a mentor reframed the field as medical and transformative. From there, Daimie walks through her start as a client care coordinator—learning charting, flow, and follow-through—before stepping into the treatment room and earning trust with a new client base. She breaks down what keeps clients coming back: HydraFacial for a deep clean plus hydration, cryo facials for instant plump, and the fan-favorite SkinPen microneedling for collagen remodeling and visible results. Expect plain-language explanations, satisfying before-and-afters, and smart insights on how to set expectations around redness, numbing, and recovery.
Homecare matters just as much, and Daimie keeps it practical. She shares why the Pavise cleanser removes full glam in a single cleanse without stripping and how SkinMedica HA5 delivers all-day hydration and smoother texture under makeup. We dig into small changes that make a big difference—like disposable towels to reduce bacteria for acne-prone skin—and how bio-adaptive formulas can calm redness and de-puff in the morning. Her mantra is simple: consistency beats complexity. When routines are easy to follow, results stick.

Welcome to another episode of Kutor Conversations, where we talk all things skincare, beauty, and the stories behind the talented team here at Kator Metzpa. I'm your host, Lindsay, Kutor's lead esthetician, and today I am so excited because we are sitting down with one of our very own, sitting down with Damie from our Vito location. She is someone who's grown so much in her time here, starting out with us as a client care coordinator, working her way to the treatment room as a full-time aesthetician. We're going to talk about her journey, what she loves about skincare, and what is next for her in the world of aesthetics. Damien, thank you so much for joining today.
SPEAKER_01Hi, so happy to be here.
SPEAKER_00Are you excited? So excited. Are you nervous?
SPEAKER_01No. Yes.
SPEAKER_00No, don't you really not? I feel like everyone who comes on here is like, I'm so nervous. And you never said that. So I'm like, maybe she's not nervous. Maybe she's just ready.
SPEAKER_01I'm ready. I like to chat.
From Makeup Counters To Skincare
SPEAKER_00Perfect. See, I knew you'd be great at this. I'm like, damn. She's gonna be it. She's my girl. All right. So let's start from the beginning. What first attracted you to the world of skincare and made you want to go to esthetician school?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So um I always was kind of like in cosmetics. I worked at a lot of other places, um, more doing makeup but never skincare. Um, and then I was actually working at Macy's and they had like the big three, like Lancombe, Estee Lauder Clinique, and I was like those women were going there to buy skincare. Like they weren't going there to buy makeup. So I was like, wait, what what am I missing? So just kind of like doing trainings and stuff like that. And then I started following like aestheticians on Instagram, and I was like, this is such a big part of like life, having a great skincare line, um, having a great skincare routine. And then I was just like, okay, I I guess this is what I'm gonna do now. This is so much fun.
SPEAKER_00So, what made you make that jump to be like, okay, I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna go to school?
SPEAKER_01I think I was just kind of browsing some schools and seeing what type of route I wanted to take. And I think the first school that I um looked into, like they called me five minutes later, and like 10 minutes later I was enrolled and I kind of stepped back. I was like, wait, okay, I guess I'm doing this. I have she was like, Yeah, you could pick up your books next week. And I was like, Oh, okay, like I guess I'm gonna go to Estition school. And then I went and I fell in love with it. Like the first week, I was like, Oh yeah, like this is what I was meant to do.
SPEAKER_00So, what was your experience in school like? What'd you guys do?
Discovering The Med Spa Path
SPEAKER_01So, I mean, it was kind of different because I went to school in the middle of COVID. So um, they were still doing half online and half um like in class. So um it was more the lecture, like the first two months we were just like talking about it, which was kind of nice. It was like a big group of girls kind of like learning together. Um, and then when I went into um actual class, we started doing actual facials. I had like an instructor that she worked at a plastic surgeon's office before. So that was kind of like because when I thought of estetician stuff, I thought of like more like brows, like that I wanted to get into like brows, um, lashes, even like stuff like that. So she was like, no, like this was what I did, and I was like, wait, that's so much fun. I was like, I want to do that too. We and so we kind of like talked about it a lot, actually. Like her experiences like working in a plastic surgeon's office and being more like med spa. Um, I didn't even know that was the thing until she talked about it. And I was like, oh, well, no, like that's actually what I want to do. So I changed a lot in school to kind of what I wanted to do and what route I wanted to take, because there's so many routes to go when you're in esthetician school or like learning to be an esthetician. It's not just skincare or like facials, there's so many things that you can do, which kind of got a little overwhelming at first because I was like, wait, well, now I don't know what I want. I had so many instructors that did one of them was like more wellness side, then I had someone who worked at a plastic surgeon's, then I had someone who was more like the lashes, the brows. So at first it was kind of overwhelming, but then once I finished, I was like, okay, no, like I want to do this the most.
SPEAKER_00Did you guys do a lot of waxing in school? Oh my gosh, yes.
SPEAKER_01That was my least favorite. Yeah, I was like, anyone want to get waxed? I was like, oh, it's for free. She's like, sure. But I it was not, I even forget that that's a thing. I don't mention it at all.
SPEAKER_00I'm like, I know she waxed, I'm sure.
SPEAKER_01But yes, I I did wax. Block that out. Yeah, no, I I mean it's fun, but I don't think I could do that. Like, it was fun to learn because we were all like, like, I don't know, waxing each other. We really didn't know what we were doing. But I didn't love waxing. But yeah, that's another thing that you can do.
SPEAKER_00Was Kutor your first job out of esthetician school? Yes, yeah, it was the same for me because I remember being like, everyone, almost every esthetician starts out waxing somewhere. And I'm like, oh, I'm so glad I didn't have to do that.
Waxing Realities And First Job
SPEAKER_01Yes. I was like, I don't want to go to like wax to do waxing or like a big franchise, you know, spa. I was like, if I'm gonna do this, like I'm gonna go into something like I know I want to do. So it took took me like maybe a couple months to come into couture, but I knew that it was something that was kind of just like waiting for me, if that makes sense.
SPEAKER_00How did you find couture?
SPEAKER_01I applied on Indy.
unknownNice.
SPEAKER_01It sounds bad. It was like in my break room of my room, my actual job. And I was just kind of like, you know, they kind of knew where I was at. So I was just scrolling, and then it wasn't for an esthetician, but it was just to kind of like get my foot in the door. Um, and I just applied, and then I think like two days later, they're like, Hey, can you come in for an interview?
SPEAKER_00So tell us a little bit about that role. So you started out as a client care coordinator, correct? So what was that like starting out?
Breaking In As Client Care
SPEAKER_01So it was kind of different for me taking time out with like one client or more like the medical side, like getting, you know, people doing charting and even like front desk. I've never worked a front desk at all. Um, so I didn't have much experience in that, but I had a lot of experience in customer service. So I knew connecting to a client, talking to a client wasn't gonna be hard for me. It was more kind of like doing the actual like day-to-day, um, like changing like hand pieces, just like bringing the provider in. Um, but once I got used to that, it's kind of like repetitive, like you're doing the same thing every day. Then it was more just kind of like talking to clients, um, connecting with clients, which I was already so used to that I loved. And I think that's why I I got hired there because I was like, I have a lot of customer service experience. So it wasn't hard, it was just more the learning part that took me a while. Like it's a lot of charting. All the girls do it all day. So I was like, okay, I guess, but I kind of picked it up really fast. So after that, it was easy. Yeah.
Fast Track To Esthetician
SPEAKER_00So how long, how long were you a client care coordinator before a spot for aesthetician opened up?
SPEAKER_01Honestly, like maybe three months.
SPEAKER_00That's what I thought.
SPEAKER_01I got lucky, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So then, yeah. So then the spot came open for a full-time esthetician. Um, so you went straight to Ovito, didn't you?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I didn't know.
SPEAKER_00I went straight to the Ovito location. Um, so what was that transition like? What was that that switch for you?
Transitioning To New Clients
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I actually like remember the day that you told me I was gonna go to Ovito. I think I was already training to do um like esthetician stuff because I was you were like, oh, if like I need someone one day, like you can. So I think I was already coming in to train, and then you told me, and you're like, hey, something opened up. I was like, yes, like I don't care where it is. Said May. Yeah, I was like, I'm going. Um, but that transition, um, it was kind of scary at first because I was like kind of like on my own doing it like every day, um, and learning new clients because I went from like Winter Park to Ovito, so it was like a whole new world out there, a whole new group of clients. So I think that part was a little intimidating, especially because there was like an esthetician there before me. So it's always like, hey, like I'm the esthetician, hi, like hope you like me. Um, but after I think a month, I was fine. And you see these clients not only in the treatment room, but in the spa because they're coming in for all their other treatments. So I'm connecting with them in the treatment room and outside the treatment room if I'm up front helping the girls out. Um, so that part was really easy for me. It wasn't a really hard transition, it was just kind of like intimidating at first.
Favorite Treatments: HydraFacial And Cryo
SPEAKER_00So now that you've been doing treatments for a while now, what are some of your favorite treatments to perform?
SPEAKER_01Hydrofacial. I just love it. I love the glow after. Um, and even cryo now, I really like to do cryofacial just because the skin like instantly plumps, and I the clients love that, and I think it's so much fun. Like they don't know what they're getting into until they do it, and then they love it after. So those are two of my favorites.
SPEAKER_00So for anyone who doesn't know what is what's a hydrofacial.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01Um, a hydrofacial is a vortex fusion. I kind of like gonna pull the lengthy out of me. Um, and it basically just kind of I how I explain it to my clients because they don't want to hear the science part. I'm like, it's just like a vortex fusion that kind of like sucks up all the nasty stuff and you know, dirty skin, makeup, um, dead skin cells, it's gonna deeply exfoliate the skin, but it's also gonna hydrate that in the process. So while it's sucking up stuff, it's then pumping good stuff into the skin. That's kind of how I explain it. And then they're like, oh yeah, sign me up. I want to do that.
SPEAKER_00So that's perfect because you're not wrong. 99% of our clients they don't want you to tell them the science behind it. They just want to be like, it's gonna take all the gunk out of your skin. Yeah, like, yes.
SPEAKER_01And you're gonna, yeah, they're like, oh my gosh, while I'm doing it all the time, like for people who've done it first, they're like, can you see what's coming out? I'm like, kind of, yeah. I'm like, it's on the tip. And always they want to see after. They're like, what did you just pull out of my face? They love that. I think that's the most satisfying part for them, and that's why they continue to get it because it's kind of like almost instant gratification because you know, like, you're sucking stuff out of there. Um, so they love that, and then they're hugged and they want to do it every month, which is good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, hydroficials. Um, I did a podcast not too long ago with Cynthia, and same thing. Hydroficials are they're a go-to for everyone.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they're so good. Yeah, they're so good. Do your do your clients like them?
SPEAKER_00Yes, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I do a client is different.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I have a few that they don't like the feeling of it. Like really 112 inch just said it feels like a cat tongue. Like, listen.
SkinPen Arrives And Wins Fans
SPEAKER_01I've heard that, but it's that little bit of exfoliation, like we might need that.
SPEAKER_00But yes, I would say the majority of them who've tried it love it. Yeah, because it is, it's such a good, you know, you're getting a deep clean with it. Yeah, yeah. So we've added a few things, we've made some changes. Um, in the years that you've done it, what's been your favorite addition like procedure that we've brought on?
SPEAKER_01Skin of pen. I don't even know why I had to think about it. That has definitely been my favorite. I was so happy when we brought it on because it's kind of something new and it's something different, more, it's not so spa-like, it's more like treatment corrective, which I think um not that we were lacking, just clients wanted a little bit more of that from our side. Um, and now that we have it, they love it. And that's all they want to do. It's like, oh one skin pen, I want to do skin pen, why can I do skin pen? Um, and now that it's been like I think two years since we brought it on, um, they are seeing such great results. And everyone that comes into the spa now, they want it, it's like known skin pen marketing link, they come in for that. Um, we have I have a lot of clients that are not members that even do it, um, just because they love it so much. So that's what I'm I'm glad that we brought that on. Yeah, that one's been a fan favorite. Yeah. For sure. Yeah. They were like, whoa, what's this?
SPEAKER_00You stick needles in my face, yeah. Sign me up.
Results, Redness, And Client Buy‑In
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they they like, do I have to numb? Like, yeah, you do. It's okay.
SPEAKER_00That is the funniest part. It's like what and it's it's really not like painful, but it's one of the least, like, you know, you think these people want, like, oh, they want to like relax and feel good. And they're like, no, you're gonna make me red and yeah, sign me up.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they want that.
SPEAKER_00Because you get such good results from it, though.
SPEAKER_01Ah, they're they they're like, Why am I not red enough? I'm like, wait, it's okay.
SPEAKER_00Like, give it like two hours, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Two hours, yes. They're always like, wait, I no, I'm like, no, just and then the next day, because then I see them like in the spots and stuff, they're like, Oh my god, my skin looks so good. They're like, Where's Damien? Like, I want to show her my skin. But this is the best feeling when your clients are like, where are they? I want to show them, look at my skin. Yeah, so if like I'm in my room or like in the treatment room and just kind of like setting up, they're like, Hey, like look at my skin. I'm like, Yes, it looks so good.
Homecare Heroes: Pavise And HA5
SPEAKER_00That is very satisfying. All right, so let's talk about some home care products. So, as far as like skincare products, what are some of your favorite go-to skincare products?
SPEAKER_01So, definitely I'm obsessed now with the Pavise cleanser. I was actually, I love the hydrantity one, but when I started using the Pavise one, I was like, wait, this is that's changed the game. I like it, leaves your skin so clean, but it doesn't feel like my skin has been stripped at all. Like it looks so glassy after. Um, so that's one's my favorite um HA5. I love a good like hydrator, anything that's gonna give me that glow, like instant glow and instant like plump, it gives me. And I like to use it before I put my makeup on too, because I don't know, and it makes my makeup last longer, I feel like. So those two I think are definitely my favorite. If I could only bring something on a deserted island, I think it'll be that.
SPEAKER_00Those are good ones. Yeah, because you you're a makeup girly, you wear makeup a lot. Do you that was one of my biggest things? Do you feel like the Pavise cleanser just gets all of that off? Yes, like in one cleanse.
SPEAKER_01In one cleanse, and I could just sit there, even like if I like wet my skin after two, I still feel like it kind of like lathers up after. So I could push it like that one pump, like and it takes everything off. And I I beat my face, I feel like. So it takes every that's why I was like, wait, I love this. Because I'm sometimes lazy in the night and I don't want to do too much.
SPEAKER_00I get when it's like, oh man, okay, you have to double cleanse because you have to get all of this off. And it is true, yeah. I tried the Pavise cleanser, and yeah, one pump, massage it around, yeah, get your hands wet a little bit again, yeah, massage it back around. And I literally I use like the um, they're not, they're like the disposable like wipes, and I'm always like, okay, let me try and pat it all around and I pull it off and I'm like, oh, there's literally nothing on here. Like it's great, it takes everything off, just like you said, and your skin doesn't feel stripped.
Cleansing Habits And Tools
SPEAKER_01No, not at all. I actually started using those towels because of video like because I wanted to see if they get everything off.
SPEAKER_00I love it. It's they're the um, they're like the knockoff brand from Amazon, and they're perfect, they're great, they're like bamboo and yeah, and I like to recommend those too to clients who are I'm getting off topic on a tangent, but clients, especially who are like acne prone or something like that, like reusing the same towel again to dry it off, harbors bacteria.
SPEAKER_01They're great, yeah. Right. So and it's fun. I feel like it adds a little something. You're like, look, see, yeah, like nothing's at all.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Speaking of HA5, I um had stopped using it for a little bit. I forget why, I was like doing some other things, and I just got it again. And as soon as I put it on my face, I was like, I love HA5.
SPEAKER_01I know it's so good, it's so good, and I love that they like reformulated it too, because it just it's so like silky and hydrating. And as soon as I put on my skin, like I know that it's I'm gonna get so much moisture and it's like lasting, like all day moisture. I like I could just take off my makeup off with the Pavise cleanser, and I still feel like my skin is hydrated, and I think it has a lot to do with HA5 too.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because it delivers that deep hydration into the skin, like you're getting that long-term lasting of hydration. Yeah, it's so good. All right, so what would you say what is the most rewarding part of being an aesthetician?
Pavise Benefits In Real Life
SPEAKER_01I think just the clients feeling good about themselves. We have a lot of clients that come in, and when they come in for a console and they're like, it's I'm finally doing something for myself. Like, I my whole life, like I took care of my kids, I took care of my husband, and now it's this is my me time. So I think that when they come in, it's them doing this little thing for themselves, and it actually makes them feel good about themselves, and then they see the results, that's the best part because they're like, wait, I want to stay here for forever. Then they're like, I'm so glad I did this, I'm so glad I took the time and to put into myself. And it's even that first step of like signing for a membership, like putting that care into yourself, and then you see the results, and then they're like, Whoa, like I'm actually so glad I did this. And when they talk to us about it, like the girls up front, if I'm up front, client comes in, they're like, Hi, they're just like, I'm I'm happy to be here. Every time they come in, they're like, I'm ready for my facial. Like, this is I just got out of work, I'm ready to relax, and they love that. And they come in, and I think that's the best part too. It's like they're home away from home. I have a lot of clients say that like they come in like five times a week, and but they love it, so then I love it. It's so much fun.
SPEAKER_00So what do you love about working at Couture?
Consistency Over Complicated Routines
SPEAKER_01I I love everyone at Couture, I feel like it's a home, it's a family, but also I love that we evolve so much. It's not I don't ever feel like I get bored or something is not like I we're always changing, like even this, like doing a podcast or um our social media marketing. That's what I like about it. So I I I felt like stuck a lot of places, like I wasn't ever moving up. But here I feel like we're bringing in new treatments, I feel a lot more useful. Um, that's really what I love about it. Love that we change in good ways, like we kind of keep up with the times.
SPEAKER_00So I'm gonna go back to skincare for a minute because I'm just literally looking at your skin, just glowing. And we were talking a little bit about it before we started, and I was saying, yeah, how good your skin was looking. And you mentioned a little bit about the cleanser that you use, but you said you've been what have you been using on your skin recently?
SPEAKER_01Pavise. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00What have you been loving about it? Tell me.
Purpose And Client Confidence
Why Couture Feels Like Home
SPEAKER_01I just love that I I saw results like after even a week. The first thing I always kind of see is when I'm using something is like my texture change. Um, but my skin is so soft, and I didn't, I don't really struggle too much with acne or hyperpigmentation. So a lot of the things that I do are more preventative, but the way this changed, like my skin texture, it makes it look so glossy. I like obviously I know why because like it has great stuff in it, but um I just my skin is so soft, even if I don't use anything at night. I'm like, wait, my skin is so soft, like my pores are like basically gone. And I know that has a lot of stuff to do with everything else I do, but and I love it so easy. That's like a one-stop shop. That's how I feel like they can kind of market their products to like an all-in-one. Um, and sometimes I'm lazy at night and I just wanted to use one thing, it's right next to my nice hand.
SPEAKER_00So tell anyone, anyone who doesn't know what is what is Pavise? What are you eating? You don't have to get like all sciencey behind it, but like what are what are they?
Career Goals: Brand Education
SPEAKER_01The dynamic age defense, also because of the sunscreen. Um, I like and I like how it doesn't feel like a sunscreen either because it has everything else. It kind of just feels like a moisturizer that you know is gonna protect your um skin. And then the bio, I don't remember. The bioadaptive stress repair. Yeah, I'm like, they can't the girls came out with like names of it at work. So I'm like, dad, like, is that a thing? We have nicknames for them. Yeah, and they're like, Can you grab me a dad? I'm like, um, at first I didn't know what they were talking about. I was like, okay, like I guess. Um, but that at night I get red after I take a shower and stuff, just because I feel like I have like some rosacea that flares up. Um, and it instantly like calms my skin down. And even in in the morning, too, I feel like my skin is so swollen, like my lymphatic trainers need to drain, and it makes it so less puffy, too. So I think that's what I really like about it too. I all these benefits I didn't know that I was gonna get from it. So yeah.
SPEAKER_00All the things you didn't know you needed.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I was like, okay, like I know I know that like at one point you know these things are gonna work, but then you do it and you like be like are consistent with it, and then you're like, wait, no, like it actually does work. I think that's I tell my clients a lot too. Like, just be consistent and then you're gonna fall in love.
SPEAKER_00So consistency is key. Yes, and it's the hardest part for most people.
SPEAKER_01Yes, they don't want to just use it, and that's why I'm like, okay, if you I have clients like, hey, I don't want a five-step, like, I want some two things and then I'm out. I'm like, okay, then we're gonna go straight to movies here and here. Yeah, this is what you need, and then your eye cream.
SPEAKER_00So now that you've been you've been with Kator for just over four years now, right? And um, what do you feel the future of aesthetics looks like? Do you have any specific goals and dreams for yourself, or where do you kind of see your future going?
Rapid Fire Favorites
SPEAKER_01I asked actually I was asking myself this the other day. Um, I think I want to get more into brands, skincare brands. Um, maybe one day being like even a rep for one. Um, something that I really believe in is obviously you can come to a spa and do these treatments, but if you're not doing the work at home, it doesn't matter almost. Um and I didn't know that really at first, and even my stuff, like I was just kind of doing my makeup at home, but then not taking the time to like cleanse my skin. And I'm like, wait, skincare does make such a difference. So I I want to get more into actual skincare ingredients, really learning and educating myself on that, because I think that's just such a big part of being an esthetician. And I also like educating other people too. Like, I love when the girls ask me, like, hey, can you talk to me about this product? Like, if we have um new client care coordinators and um the practice atom is like, hey, can you just sit down real fast and go over the products? I find so much joy in that, just like talking about them and being like the client, why the clients love them, and I feel like I could go around and educate more people on it too. You'd be great at that. Uh all the girls remember they're like, Oh, you should you should do that. Like when there's a rep that comes and be like, oh damn, you could do that. I'm like, it's a lot harder than it sounds. So it's a lot, but I feel like kind of even being like a trainer for a company, talking about skincare, um, that would be cool for me. And sometimes I don't think about it often because you're every day you're kind of doing the same thing, and and I love doing it so much. I'm like, wait, what else could be out there? But there is a lot of other opportunities, but definitely staying at Couture and building it there and building my clients and talking to my clients and even helping the girls out. We have so many estheticians that are client care coordinators, or even girls that work that are client care coordinators are like, wait, no, I actually want to go to esthetician school. I love when they want to talk to me about it too, because it is something that you don't hear too much. Like, you know, people who do facials, but it's so much more than that. And when they come in and they want to talk about it, I I love to say, like, yeah, go to asthetician school. Like, you're not gonna regret it. You won't regret it. And they go and then they don't regret it. So I just love it.
SPEAKER_00Well, I have loved watching your journey. I love watching the aesthetician that you've become. I hear nothing but amazing things from your clients, from your team, everyone that works with you, um, our floating providers that come into the other locations. You know, everyone loves dating. Oh, I love everyone too. So it's, you know, all the hard work that you've put in at Couture, I think, is amazing. And I can really tell that it shows in your clients that stay loyal to you and love it. And I um, yeah, I'm excited to see what the future holds for you as well. So, all right, so we're gonna end on a fun little note. So, we're gonna do some little rapid fire questions. Okay. First thing that comes to your mind, what you prefer, okay? Okay, all right, coffee or matcha? Coffee, favorite step in your skincare routine? Cleanse. Treatment that you'd love to get yourself, skin pen. Favorite product line that we carry.

SPEAKER_01Everything shower.
SPEAKER_00If you weren't an aesthetician, what do you think you would be doing?
SPEAKER_01Probably I wanted to be a celebrity makeup artist. So you'd be so good at that. Like, hey, can I?
