Big lives aren’t linear—and Maddie’s path proves it. From construction sites to the front desk at Winter Park, from leading a high-volume Ocoee clinic to late-night clinicals and mnemonics with her sister, she kept chasing the mix of pace, purpose, and people that makes work feel right. We talk about the early days of learning lasers and consultations, the leap to leadership across multiple locations, and the real weight of managing schedules, burnout risk, and team energy when 70 appointments stand between you and closing.
When nursing school called, Maddie said yes—and then shared what most brochures skip: the tears, the time hacks, and the moments on orthopedic trauma floors that make the grind worth it. She breaks down how she studies without procrastination, what clinicals taught her about presence, and why she’s charting a course toward nurse practitioner with an eye on aesthetics. ER tempts her speed-loving side, CRNA intrigues with rigor and pay, but aesthetics offers something she wants every morning—helping people feel good in their skin.
Coming back to Couture wasn’t a step back; it was a strategic reset. Starting again as a C3 let her double down on patient-centered care and the conversations that build trust. We swap stories about culture in action—from training games that boost skincare knowledge to an Easter egg hunt that made a Monday feel like childhood—and how those small rituals create big results. If you’re feeling unsure about your path, you’ll hear practical, permission-giving advice: apply, try, pivot, repeat. You learn by moving.
If this story hits home, tap follow, share it with a friend who’s weighing a nursing path, and leave a quick review to help more listeners find us. Your next chapter might be one brave decision away.
Welcome And Maddie’s Role Today
SPEAKER_01Welcome back to another episode of Kutor Conversations, where we dive into the stories behind the faces you know and love at Kator Metzpa. Today we're sitting down with someone whose journey within Kator has been anything but linear, but in the best way possible. Maddie has worn many hats here. She's been in the front lines welcoming clients, supported teams behind the scenes, and she's playing a key role in shaping the client experience. And then in true Maddie fashion, she took a brave step forward to her future by starting nursing school, only to find her way right back home at Couture. In this episode, we are talking about her evolution through her roles that she's stepped into, what she's learned along the way, what pulled her back to the brand after taking some time to chase new goals. We'll explore her journey that has shaped the provider that she's becoming and how her time away has given her a new perspective and what she's excited about as she steps into this new chapter with us. Welcome, Maddie.
SPEAKER_00Hi.
SPEAKER_01Thanks for joining me.
SPEAKER_00Thanks for having me.
SPEAKER_01I knew you'd be perfect for this. I'm like, Maddie's gonna be great. I need we need to have an episode with her.
SPEAKER_00She's gonna be so fun. I'm excited.
Starting At Couture In 2020
SPEAKER_01As soon as I asked, as soon as I asked, I was like, um, hey Maddie, you wanna do uh you wanna do a podcast? Like, yes. Please. I was so excited. All right, so for any listeners who may not know you, can you introduce yourself and share what your current role is as a C3 at Couture?
SPEAKER_00Um my current role is a C3. Um, I had to start from the start from the bottom again, doing my back to the basics, rooming people, which is nice. I actually really enjoy that part, so I get to be face to face with people. So, I mean, like you said, I'm in nursing school, so I kind of have to be able to talk to people and be one-on-one. So, I mean, it's giving me more experience. I'm getting it back. It's a fun time.
SPEAKER_01So we'll take it back to the beginning. So for the first time, how did you first hear about Kutor Med Spa and what originally drew you to apply? Wait, I'll stop. We'll go back real quick. When did you first start at Couture?
SPEAKER_00Oh, I started at Couture end of 2020.
SPEAKER_01Okay, yeah, 2020. I knew it had been a while, but I was like, wait, how long was it? Okay.
SPEAKER_00Ooh.
SPEAKER_01So 2020. So back in 2020, it's been a minute. Oh, so how did you hear about Couture?
SPEAKER_00Um, it's actually funny. I went through a breakup and I quit my job, and I was like, wow, I don't feel really good. So I need to find something that's gonna make me feel good about myself. So I started applying at like random places, and I saw Medspa and I was like, that sounds fun. I could do that, and I'm surrounded by things that will make me feel pretty. I'm gonna do that. So I applied and then I got it. It was so fun.
SPEAKER_01Which location did you start at?
SPEAKER_00Winter Park.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00Winter Park. Yeah. Ooh, home base.
SPEAKER_01And then, so what was your very first position when you started at Couture?
SPEAKER_00A C3.
First Steps Into Aesthetics
SPEAKER_01Perfect. So C3 at Winter Park, what was that like? What was that like going into because you weren't in aesthetics before?
SPEAKER_00No, I was a construction worker.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so I was like, it was not the same at all. It was crazy. And before that, I worked with kids. So jumping into this field, I was like, okay, this is fun. I mean, I love skincare, I like washing my face and stuff. But lasers was a whole new ball game for me. Botox and fillers, like I saw that in movies and TV shows, but never in real life. So I was like, what goes on? Like, this is like a real thing. This is people's regular like routines. So jumping into it was so interesting, but it was so fun. So fun. I remember my first time, Diane, like my second week, Diane was like, You're getting Botox right now. I was like, ooh, okay. I'm scared of meetles, but yes, like frees me up. So it was fun. It was fast paced over in Winter Park. I wasn't used to like the I'm used to being in the heat, like walking around. So that was it was interesting to get used to. It was fun though.
SPEAKER_01What was one of your favorite things to like learn about?
SPEAKER_00Honestly, how the lasers worked. Okay. Like being able to explain to people how they work because I was understanding it myself. I was like, this is so interesting. So, like that was really important for me because I was like, I'm if I like what I'm doing and I know what I'm talking about, it's gonna make me like it more. So, me being able to explain that to people, like it was just so fun. Like, it was easy to pick up because I actually liked what I was doing.
Learning Lasers And Consultations
SPEAKER_01What were some challenges that you had when you first started working?
SPEAKER_00It was consultations, learning, like having your your script down to make sure that you're giving them all accurate information while also trying to like focus on your like client and what they're looking for, and not just like going through the motions of give like giving a script. Um, knowing what the lasers and stuff do, I feel like that was easy for me because I'm good with like information, but it was more of like connecting with people and seeing like what's gonna help them feel better, and that was like a little bit harder for me because I didn't really have to interact with people before that, and I before that it was kids, so I was like, adults are kind of hard, but it was it was a learning experience. That's what made me realize I wanted to do nursing.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. So before you came into this, you had no like desire for nursing.
SPEAKER_00No, I wanted to be a vet doctor, physical therapist, I don't even know. Everything, everything that you want to be as a kid.
SPEAKER_01Trying to figure out how to be an adult.
SPEAKER_00Literally, I'm like uh something, something with a job.
SPEAKER_01So you've held a couple different roles at Couture. So take us through that journey. What were your different progressions? What different locations? What is your until you will we'll stop it at before you left to go to nursing school? Okay. What was that journey through Couture with you?
SPEAKER_00Well, I started as a C3 in Winter Park, and about a little under 90 days in, I got promoted to assistant manager. No, I got promoted to lead for Ovito, and that was fun because I was like, okay, we're gonna switch it up, we're gonna go to Ovito. It was a little different because it was a it was a slower location from Winter Park, and it was a lot bigger, so I was lost. A lot of yeah, I was like, it's a whole different ballgame here. And then a week later, I was the assistant manager of Ovito, and I was there for about a year, I think a year, and then I came to O'Koe to be the manager, and that was a party.
Rapid Growth Across Locations
SPEAKER_01So Maddie was my manager over in O'Coe, and we had the best time.
SPEAKER_00I miss it.
SPEAKER_01It was so good. How would you describe being manager in O'Coe? What's it like over there? O'Koey's a beast.
SPEAKER_00It's so O'Koe is a beast. That that is emphasis on beast. I going from Winter Park, like it was fast, but because the location was so small, it wasn't fast. So, like 30 appointments was fast to me, learning. Then going to Ovito, I was like, 30 appointments is nothing. Like, this is slow, like I can get things done, like whatever. So I feel like I was able to like build my momentum there. Then I went to Okoe and I was like, woo, 60, 70 appointments. All right, let's get it done, let's get it going. And I feel like I thrive in chaos. So I loved it. I feel like I was better in Okoe than I was in the other two locations. Like, don't get me wrong, I feel like I did good in the other locations, but being in such a fast pace, like crazy, always changing, different personalities, like between workers as well as like people, like just clients coming in, it was crazy, but it was the best experience I've ever had. It was so fun.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you always brought the energy with you, which was so good because we needed that. Because when you do have that many appointments on your schedule for the day, you need something to keep you excited and going. And you were always so good with enticing the girls, giving them goals for the day, giving them like so it was it was really good to watch you in that position as well. Um, what did you enjoy most about being in management?
Managing Ocoee’s High Volume
SPEAKER_00Honestly, it was just seeing the different aspects of it. Cause like when you start out at a job, like you don't even realize what all goes into it. So you're kind of just like that person that's like, oh, like complaining about their manager, like, oh, they don't listen, like they're too busy to help me, whatever. And then you start to like slowly climb and you get to management, and you're like, wow, this really is a lot, but like, how can I manage the job as well as like the employees as well as the patient? Like all of the things trying to find a way to make it like work together was so funny. It was kind of like a puzzle. Like, how can I keep the morale high while the chances for burnout are high because it's so busy, and like there are moments where like somebody calls out and you're a little short staff, so like different things like that. It was kind of just like making my brain work a little harder, which was just a good time. Like, I feel like morale is what got us through every day. Like, honestly, it was great, it was so fun. Uh, and management was it was so fun. I was like, oh, I'm a boss, I'm out here running stuff. Like, it was just cool. It was cool to say.
SPEAKER_01So you took a short break. I did. I'm gator. Um, because you got accepted into nursing school. I did. Congratulations. I was so excited for you. I remember you being in Okoe and you were doing what were you doing? Like the test to get into nursing school. Yeah. She was studying all the time. What is what test is it? The T's. The T's. She was studying all the time, working her butt off to get into that, and you got accepted. So congratulations. So you took a little break from Couture. Um, what's nursing school been like for you?
SPEAKER_00Nursing school is I don't even know where, like, it's it's rough. Like, I feel like all of the nurses that I've worked with, they've told me, like, oh, like you're gonna love it, like it'll be done like that. And I agree. I feel like I'm already halfway through and it has been going by so fast. But what they don't tell you is the amount of times you'll cry. I'm like, actually, I cry all the time. I'm like, this is awful. Like, it's such a good experience. I love the clinicals. I love actually getting the like hands-on experience, but I was never like a school like nerdy nerd, love to study. So that has been such a big like turning point for me. Like, I had to I had to figure out how to study in quick, but it's been whooping my butt, but it's the most rewarding thing I could have done for sure.
SPEAKER_01What are some tools you've learned for studying? What's helped you?
SPEAKER_00Ooh, um, procrastination is not key. And that's like my middle name. So not procrastinating, writing down notes, listening to videos, figuring out my way of learning because I learn a little bit differently. Like, I learned I can't study on my own because I can't focus. Um, I also learned that I can't really like listen to stuff because I lose focus fast. So for me, it's like talking to somebody. My sister's also in nursing school, so me and her have been studying together, and like I can understand stuff a certain way, but I understand it better hearing other people's way of learning it. So learning it that way, I'm like, oh, okay, so that makes sense. I can take that from you. Finding mnemonics to help me remember stuff, that's helped me a lot.
SPEAKER_01So, in your original goal going into nursing, are you wanting to go into aesthetics, or was that not the end goal?
Entering Nursing School
SPEAKER_00Originally it wasn't. I didn't want to do aesthetics at all. I was like, I love the aesthetics part that I'm in right now, but I was only in management, so I was like, I don't really understand it. Um and I was dead set on I'm gonna do oncology. Then I switched to ER, and I still think that for a little bit I do want to do ER, but I think my end goal is to do nurse practitioner to become an aesthetic nurse. I feel like that one, it's a lot less sad, and two, it's just something that I could wake up and feel good about every day. Like I don't have to worry about, like, oh my gosh, like, is my patient gonna die today? Like, am I have to work do I have to worry about this? Like, it's more of oh, I can wake up and make somebody feel good about themselves today. I would, I would totally do that 100%.
SPEAKER_01Is there any other career path that you've kind of learned about in nursing school that you didn't really realize that you thought might be interested in?
SPEAKER_00Like orthopedics or something like that so my first clinical was a um orthopedic trauma unit. So blown off hands, broken bones, craziness, and I was like, this is fun. Like I kind of like the like I said, I like thrive in chaos. So I'm like, I like the like moving parts, it's always like you're up and at him like moving around. Um, but then I was like, I don't know, because like can my stomach handle all of that? Like, I don't know. But then I learned about CRNA, and that was a route that I've been like kind of deciding between that and NP. The only reason why I'm kind of sticking to NP right now is because CRNA is you're kind of locked into what you're doing.
SPEAKER_01So what is CRNA?
SPEAKER_00So it's certified nurse, registered nurse, um, anesthesiist. Oh, okay. So I would just be doing anesthesia for people.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00So it's a very well-paying job, it looks really interesting. It's the schooling is intense. Um but you're not really able to do much with that. Like you're kind of locked into whatever you sign up for. Whereas nurse work dictionary, I can I can be in the trauma unit if I wanted to do that, and then switch to oncology and then switch to aesthetics. So I feel like there's more movement for me there, more ways to grow.
SPEAKER_01So you said you're about halfway through nursing school now? I am.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01Do you think you'll jump right into trying to go to MP or you want to try and work a little bit first? I'm gonna jump right into it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm gonna go right now. I'm just going for my um AA, well, my associates, and then I'm jumping right into BSN and then right into MP.
SPEAKER_01Nice.
SPEAKER_00Nice.
SPEAKER_01All right, so what ultimately brought you back to guitar?
Study Habits And Clinical Insights
SPEAKER_00I missed it. I missed it. I was working at the hospital while in nursing school, and I liked it, but I wasn't really doing much. I was just a medical assistant there. Um and then I wanted to focus on nursing school, and then I was like, I don't feel good about myself. Like nursing school, it really does put you through a lot of different emergen emotions, and like it can mess with you mentally a little bit. So I was like, I need to go somewhere. Somewhere I need a job, I need to make money, and I need to go somewhere where I just feel good. And I knew starting at a different job was gonna be rough just because I'm like, I can't really learn something right now while I'm still trying to learn school, like it's just not gonna work for me. And like hours, it's kind of hard to find places that are like willing to work with you. And I was like, let me just go home. Let me go home, let me go back to where I was. I was happy there, like I feel good here. It just made me feel like myself again. I was like, I just need something that's gonna pick up my mood when I'm feeling messed up in school. So I came home.
SPEAKER_01Well, I love it. I'm glad you're home.
SPEAKER_00I missed it. I missed it. I needed to.
SPEAKER_01So, what's it like working and going to nursing school? Because I know a lot of people say you can't work during nursing school. So, how's that been for you?
SPEAKER_00So, luckily, I'm in the evening weekend program, so my classes are mainly at night and on the weekends. So working for me, it wasn't hard when I was working at the hospital. It was rough because I was working all day, going to school at night, going home, studying all night, waking up doing the same thing every single day. So I was exhausted. The burnout was so real, and I was like, I'm not happy doing what I'm doing, so it made it worse. But now I'm like, I'm here, and I'm like, oh, this is not something that I've I feel like if you feel stressed at your job, you're gonna feel it worse in school. And I don't feel stressed here, so I'm like, I feel like my work life balance will be a little bit better because I'm not like taking home everything when I leave here, if that makes sense. Like I can just do my job, be a couture, go go to school, go home, and be at peace.
SPEAKER_01Do you feel like you've learned any skills or strengths in nursing school that you can now bring back to a couture?
Career Paths: ER, NP, CRNA, Aesthetics
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah. I mean, I feel like I was already decent with communication, but I feel like now it's more well, it was patient-centered care before, but when you go into management at Couture, like you get lost in doing so many different things that like you still have that client care to you, but you're not as active in it because you're not really like rooming people or being with people. So bringing it back to like your patient like centered care or client-centered care was such a big thing for me that I'm like, oh restarting as a C3, I get to like incorporate that, and then I'm like, but I can see how you can incorporate this as management too. So if that were to ever happen again for me, like I'd be like, oh okay. So you just gotta focus on your people because that's that's how they come back, that's how they remember you. Yeah, I feel like it definitely helped me more with my people skills.
SPEAKER_01How would you describe the culture at Kator?
SPEAKER_00Fun. A fun time. Fun time. I'm now on the Lake Mary location, um, which is very different from the other three locations that I've worked at.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I've also worked in Kasimi, so wait, so this is your first time working at Lake Mary? First time working at Lake Mary. I didn't really put that together. I'm like, oh wait, this is your first time working at that location.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah, I've worked at them all. Um, so the environment there, it's very, it's very different from what I'm used to, but it's it's actually really nice. Like it's very comfortable, it's very calm, and jumping back into it, I feel like it was a really good location for me to restart at. So I feel like as a team, our team is great. Our team is great, Carolise is awesome, Cass is awesome. Shout out to my sis.
SPEAKER_01Um, a little bias there.
SPEAKER_00Right, like a little bias, but she's great. She is great. She loves Cass. Um, but honestly, like the whole feel of couture, it's it literally is like coming home. Like it's a family. That's just how it feels. Just a big family.
SPEAKER_01Do you have any favorite couture moments? Anything that really you love to work in.
SPEAKER_00Our Easter egg hunt. Oh, that was my favorite. That was so good. Ugh, I loved our Easter egg hunt. That was one of my like highlight moments for sure.
Why She Came Back To Couture
SPEAKER_01So I'll tell the story. So for Easter, I come into work and there's a sign on the door. I don't remember what it said, but there was a sign on the door that said something about going into the break room. Oh, yeah. That's what it was. We had to follow carrots. And this girl through the whole spa put carrots around and you had to find our baskets. They were all in the kitchen, right? They're all in the kitchen, and she made Easter baskets for every single one of us, and then she hid Easter eggs all around the spa. Everywhere. Everywhere. Around the spa for like two weeks. Yeah, we did not find them all right off the bat. And we all stood in that room and then we all said go. And we all went and we found our little Easter eggs, and they were all over the place, and they had all little goodies inside of them. And it was just the sweetest, most fun thing. Like so fun. It's just one of those things that, like you said, it makes Kotura feel like you're home, like it's family. Like we're doing an Easter egg hunt together. And it was in the morning before we started and it was cute. And then she even made my cute little nephew Easter basket. And made for all the everyone who had kids and stuff, she made little Easter baskets for. So that was a great moment. That was so much fun.
SPEAKER_00That was one of my favorite moments seeing like well, one, it was Monday. So it was like a rough day. Let's just start off good. And two, I was like, seeing a bunch of adults being able to like travel back in time and just be a kid and do an Easter egg hunt was amazing. So fun. Uh I I tried doing it again at my new job and it didn't land the same. And I was like, let me go home. Bring it back.
SPEAKER_01We'll always do an Easter egg hunt.
SPEAKER_00I was like, yeah, this isn't this didn't land the same way.
SPEAKER_01So sad. One thing I always tell um anyone about, especially like other managers when we're talking about ways to get the girls involved and you know different things. One thing that I always remember that you used to do was Maddie and I were on our game when it came to selling skincare. And we wanted all the girls to be on top of it too.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And so she put little like dollar amounts because we have Katour Cash. So anyone who doesn't know Kotor Cash is, you know, they can earn a certain amount of like money, Kutor Cash that they can use on like services and stuff in the spa for the girls that work there. And when you hid the little money things underneath the um products, and then we'd ask questions, and the girls would have to run to the right product for like their answer, and whoever got there first, they'd win money. And it was just those fun things that wheel, yeah. We had a wheel, they would spin and they could win prizes answering questions. So it it was it's really good having that culture where we can make learning and training and having a crazy busy day really fun.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
Work–School Balance And Wellbeing
SPEAKER_01And you were always really good at that. So I always loved that. And you know, I think that culture does translate to all of the locations. I think each location has their little, you know, knack of what they do for training and for keeping the girls excited and into it, and that's always been really fun. So those are those little things that do set us apart from you know traditional jobs where you just come in and do your job and you have co-workers and you go home. For sure. Um, we do make it a family and it is so much fun.
SPEAKER_00Oh, it really does. Being able to have a good time at work is ideal key.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Key for happiness.
SPEAKER_01Makes a crazy day. Not so crazy.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely.
SPEAKER_01What advice would you give to anyone that is in the beauty and aesthetics field who feels uncertain or overwhelmed or not sure of what their path might be?
Patient-Centered Skills Back On The Floor
SPEAKER_00Honestly, you're gonna feel like that. Like you're gonna feel uncertain or sure until you have that moment where you're like, No, I think that I I want to do this. Like it was little things here and there. Like I said, I was a teacher before, so I was like, I want to work with kids. Went to construction, came to couture, and I was like, no, being a nurse would be so fun. Like, but it didn't happen like as soon as I walked in the door of couture. Like, if you're uncertain of like what you want to do or what you want to be, you're you're gonna stay uncertain. Like, nothing's gonna just like happen for you, like just because you're like, I really wish I I really wish I knew what I wanted to do. It took like maybe I would say a year. Actually, no, I would say when I got to Okoe, because I wasn't going for well, I mean, I guess I was sort of going for nursing school, but when I got to Okoe, that's when I was like, Yeah, this is what I want to do. I definitely want to do it. Like, this is fun. This is where I feel like I thrive. And it kind of just clicked for me one day. But I I was so uncertain and unsure. Like I was switching jobs left and right, doing the most random stuff until I found a place where I felt safe, which I feel like me feeling so safe where I was is what made me be like, okay, now I can take a breather and I can figure out what it is I want in life. And I had my moment where I was like, okay, that's it. That's what we're gonna do. Just take a deep breath, figure it out. You'll figure it out slowly. So it's not just gonna happen overnight for sure.
SPEAKER_01For any team members who might be thinking about moving roles or taking on new responsibilities at Couture or just anyone in general in life, what advice would you give them? Do it, go for it, do it, go for it.
SPEAKER_00Any position that opens up, go for it. You're never gonna know unless you try it. I was uncertain jumping from Winter Park to Ovito, and I was like, okay, and then moving up as fast as I did, I was like, okay. And then I went to Okoe and I was like, this is the best move I've ever made. Such a great move. And I don't regret coming back and starting as a C3. I know I'm like starting lower, but like I made my way up once, I can do it again, and I wouldn't have traded going for every position. I wouldn't do it, I wouldn't not do it again. If a position opened up tomorrow, I'd be like, Yep, throw me a coach.
SPEAKER_01Give it to me. Right, I'm going back.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, just do it. Yeah, you gotta grow somehow. You can't get stuck in one spot because then you never know when another position's gonna open up. You'd be stuck there for a year or two.
SPEAKER_01Well, I've loved watching your journey. I've loved watching you grow. I was so excited when you got into nursing school. I was very happy for you. Um, I watched you shed some tears for that. So many. But you're doing amazing, and I've loved watching your journey. So, all right, we're gonna end on a little, well, not that this whole thing hasn't been fun, but we're gonna end on a little fun. We're gonna end on a little uh little rapid fire questions. All right. All right, what's your go-to coffee order?
Culture Across Locations
SPEAKER_00I'm not much of a coffee drinker, I'm more of a matcha girly. Okay, so like the Starbucks banana cream protein matcha. If you haven't tried it, do it.
SPEAKER_01All right, so get that later.
SPEAKER_0010 out of 10.
SPEAKER_01Morning person or night owl?
SPEAKER_00Night. I'm not a morning person.
SPEAKER_01First thing you know, she's not. First thing you do when you wake up.
SPEAKER_00Um, I go on TikTok for a little bit.
unknownI'm not gonna lie.
SPEAKER_00A good 10 minutes.
