Hey guys, welcome back to Let's Talk About It. Today's topic is one that can stir up a lot of emotions, assumptions, and sometimes even division among Christians. We're talking about Jesus, politics, and the Christian response. Now, before we dive in, I want to be clear about something. This episode is not about endorsing a political party, a candidate, or a platform. It's about asking, how should followers of Jesus engage in a political world while keeping Christ at the center? Because whether we like it or not, politics affects our communities, our churches, our families, and our nation. Yet our ultimate allegiance belongs to Jesus Christ. So let's talk about it. Christians should be involved. Some believers say Christians should stay completely out of politics. Others make politics almost the center of their faith. I believe Scripture points us somewhere in the middle. Jesus said in Mark chapter 12, verse 17, render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. Jesus acknowledged earthly governments while reminding us that God deserves our highest loyalty. As citizens, Christians should care about issues that affect people because people matter to God. Things like protecting human life, religious freedom, justice, caring for the poor, defending the vulnerable, and integrity and leadership. These are not merely political issues. They're biblical issues. Christians should vote. Christians should be informed. Christians can serve in government. Think about people like Daniel, Joseph, Esther, and Nehemiah. They all served within governmental systems while remaining faithful to God. The question is not whether Christians should engage. The question is how. Now, does that mean Christians can ever post political opinions? Not necessarily. But I think wisdom is needed. Before posting, ask yourself the following questions. Is this glorifying Jesus? Is this helping someone? Is this promoting truth and grace? Would I say this to another person face to face? Sometimes what we gain from posting is not worth the relationships we lose. Especially when people are watching how we represent Jesus. Loving people who disagree. This may be one of the biggest challenges for Christians today. Jesus never said, People will know you are my disciples by your political opinions. He said, By this all people will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another. John chapter 13, verse 35. Notice that Jesus did not say agreement. He said love. The early church contained people from vastly different backgrounds and political viewpoints. Yet Jesus united them. We can disagree with someone and still respect them, listen to them, care about them, pray for them, and show kindness. Truth without love becomes harsh. Love without truth becomes compromise. Jesus modeled both perfectly. John chapter 1, verse 14 says that Jesus came full of grace and truth. Not grace or truth, grace and truth. Pray for leaders. One of the most overlooked commands regarding politics is found in 1 Timothy 2, verses 1 through 2. Paul writes, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions. Think about that. Paul wrote those words while Nero was emperor. Nero was not a godly leader. Yet Christians were commanded to pray. Imagine how different our conversations would look like if we prayed as much as we posted. The mission is bigger than politics. Governments come and go, presidents come and go. Parties rise and fall, but the kingdom of God remains forever. Jesus did not commission the church to win elections. He commissioned the church to make disciples. Matthew 28, verse 19 says, Go therefore and make disciples of all nations. Political engagement matters, but eternity matters even more. The person you're arguing with online has an eternal soul. That reality should shape how we speak and how we engage. Practical takeaways. As Christians, we need to be informed, vote our convictions, stand for biblical truths, pray for our leaders, love people who disagree with us, protect our witness, keep Jesus above politics, and remember that our citizenship is ultimately in heaven. You can have strong convictions and still show strong compassion. You can stand firmly in truth and still love deeply. That is the example that Jesus gave us. At the end of the day, our hope is not in Washington. Our hope is not in a political party. Our hope is not in a candidate. Our hope is in Jesus Christ. And no matter what happens politically, Jesus is still on the throne. Before we wrap up today's episode, I want to tell you about a company we're excited to highlight.
