What If Weak Faith In A Strong Savior Is What Holds Us
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
One question cuts through every distraction: What must I do to be saved? We sit with the Philippian jailer’s midnight crisis in Acts 16 and let the Bible answer with the kind of clarity most of us secretly crave: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.” Not maybe. Not later. Not if you perform well. We talk about why the gospel offers real assurance, and why salvation is a promise rooted in Jesus, not a project built on our confidence.
We also slow down on a misunderstood idea: the power of faith is not in how strong you feel, but in who you’re trusting. Weak faith in a strong Savior holds, while sincere faith in the wrong thing collapses. That’s why “Jesus plus” is not good news at all. If we try to add works, rituals, or self-sufficiency to Christ, we quietly shift our trust off of Him and back onto ourselves.
Then we define repentance the way Scripture does in Acts 2 and Romans 10: not mere regret, not an apology, not behavior modification, but a real turning from sin and self to God. We connect that to the fruit of true conversion, including baptism, changed priorities, and a life that keeps going when feelings dip. We also highlight the “whoever” promise: no background, ethnicity, status, or shameful history puts you out of reach.

The Question That Changes Everything
SPEAKER_01Dr. Tim continues his message on one of the most important questions you could ever ask yourself. What must I do to be said? Let's join Dr. Mann now.
SPEAKER_00The power of faith doesn't come from the strength of our belief. It comes from the object of our faith. What you believe on. What you believe in. Look, you can believe sincerely in a broken ladder, but if you start to climb that broken ladder, what's going to happen? You're going to fall. It's going to fail you. But even weak faith, from our perspective, even weak faith in a strong Savior will hold. That's why Paul and Silas didn't say, believe in yourself. Promise is sure. This is the promise of believing. Paul doesn't hesitate. You will be saved. Not you might be. Not, well, let's see how you do. No. You will be saved. That's the assurance of the gospel. When you believe, I'm talking genuinely and personally, you are saved. Forgiven of all sin, adopted as sons and daughters, and dwelt by the Holy Spirit of God and given eternal life. This is not a vague hope, it's a divine guarantee. And Romans chapter 10, verse 13 echoes the same promise. For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Well, what else does Acts 1631 say? Let's look
Faith Depends On Its Object
SPEAKER_00at it. 1631. The Apostle Paul adds a beautiful line. You and your household. Now, he's not saying, lest you get confused, he's not saying that the jailer's family will be saved automatically because of his faith. Every person must believe for themselves. But what he is saying is this that the offer of salvation is wide enough for everyone in your house. Everyone in your home. That same night, the Bible says that Paul and Silas shared the word of the Lord with the jailer and with all who were in his house. And by the grace of God they believed too. And Acts 16, 34 says the jailer rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household. So the gospel didn't just save him, it transformed his home. So this reminds us that the gospel isn't just personal, it's powerful. It can impact your family, your relationships, in fact, your whole sphere of influence. So I just want to encourage you this morning. Don't stop praying for those you love. Don't stop praying for those you love. If God can save a Philippian jailer, he can save anyone. Even me. Even those you're praying for. So let's make this personal.
Your Household And Your Hope
SPEAKER_00Listen, mature believer. Have you been saved a long time? Never move on from this. Never move on from this. You are not saved because you're strong. But because Christ is. You're not saved because you're enough. Well, I hate that saying today. You're enough. You know, you're enough. No, you're not. Jesus is, though. He's enough. He's enough. And he's strong. And he's sufficient. So keep clinging to him. Keep proclaiming him. The answer to every soul's need is still the same. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. If you're a new believer, not been saved very long, you don't need to add anything to Jesus. I don't care what anybody tells you. Don't listen to that nonsense. Jesus plus, Jesus plus. No. You don't need to add anything to Jesus. In fact, you can't if you'll be saved. If you go trying to add something to Jesus, then you're not truly trusting him. You're trusting Jesus in something else. Which means really you're trusting your own self and the works you can do or the ritual you can accomplish. He's enough. Your faith might be small in your own eyes, but your Savior's great. Keep your eyes on him. And if you're honest in here this morning, if you're sitting here and you're going to be honest with yourself. And you would say, you know, I really am still an unbeliever. I'm not saved. Well, you've heard the question. Now you've heard the answer. Will you believe? Will you trust in the one who died for you and rose again? Don't wait for a better day. There's not one. Don't wait for a stronger faith. Come to him in faith, as you are, right now, right where you sit.
Jesus Alone Not Jesus Plus
SPEAKER_00What's the response? Well, hearing the gospel requires a response. I don't understand preachers or pastors or even Christians who witness who will tell the story, but then don't ask for a response. Don't call for the verdict. I'm calling for the verdict. What do you say? Because hearing the gospel requires a response. Salvation is not just information to consider, it's a call to respond with faith and repentance. After Paul and Silas told the jailer, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved. What happened next? He believed. And his household heard the word, and they believed. And the change was immediate. What did he do? He washed the wounds of the very men he had once guarded. He was baptized that same night. He rejoiced with his whole household. His heart, his life, and his direction were changed. And by the way, that's the pattern of true conversion. That's the real deal. That's the pattern of true conversion. Salvation isn't just saying a prayer, it isn't checking a box. It's turning from sin, trusting in Christ, and walking in newness of life.
Repentance Is A Real Turn
SPEAKER_00Now, let's see just for a few minutes. Let's see how the Bible describes this saving response in Acts 2 and in Romans 10. Y'all right? Acts 2, Romans 10. Just a few more minutes. Acts 2, turn over there with me. I mean the apostle Peter has been preaching the gospel in Jerusalem. He's been preaching the word of God. He's been preaching the gospel. He's been laying it out. And in Acts chapter 2, verse 37, the Bible says, Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart. And said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? So the people were cut to the heart. And by the way, that's what solid, spirit-empowered preaching does. It cuts you to the heart. It doesn't affirm you in your sin. It doesn't tell you that you're all that and wonderful. Now God loves you just as you are. Now go be nice and kind to each other and go out there and just be good. Now the preacher doesn't have to be a jerk like I am sometimes. I try hard not to be offensive. But the word of God is sharper than any double-edged sword. And if it is held forth with truth and grace, but even with truth, empowered by the Spirit of God, and it's solid and it's true, it will cut you to the heart. You might say, well, I don't like that. I want to go somewhere, it'll make me feel good. Well, that's not my problem. That's your problem. You need the word of God. You need to be cut. Because it's only in cutting that you're going to get healed. Men and brethren, what shall we do? And Peter said to them, Repent. And let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. That word repent, it's a Bible word. That word repent means a change of heart. It's a change of mind. It's a change of direction. It is a turning away from sin and self and turning to God. Repentance, you need to know this. Repentance is not merely regret. It's not just feeling guilty. Repentance is not saying, I'm sorry. It's not an apology. Oh, it can start with that. Repentance is not just feeling bad, it's recognizing sin for what it is, which is rebellion against God. We don't talk about sin anymore. We call it a struggle. I'm struggling with something. No, you're not. You're sinning against God. I'm sinning against God. I'm not just struggling with something. I'm sinning. It's not a sickness, it's sin. I mean, let's just call it what it is. It's not just feeling bad, it's recognizing sin for what it is and yielding your will to his. Repentance is more than behavior modification. It's a spiritual U-turn. True faith always includes repentance. If there's no repentance, there's no true faith. As far as salvation goes. You can't cling to Christ while holding on to your sin. Deliberately. You must turn from one to embrace the

No Partiality Whoever Can Be Saved
SPEAKER_01Here's Dr. Timothy Mann.
SPEAKER_00First Thessalonians chapter 1, verse 9 puts it this way: You turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God. Did you get the pattern? You turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God. That's why, that's why when the jailer was saved, his actions changed. He went from presiding over their punishment to participating in their healing. He washed their wounds. He gave them food. That's repentance. Not perfection. No. But real transformation. Not sinless. No. But changed. Changed. We got time for one more. Romans 10. Let's go back to it. Romans 10, verses 11 through 13. Continues the truth that Paul gave in Acts. Romans 10, 11 through 13 says for this, for the scripture says, whoever believes on him will not be put to shame. For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek. That's talking about ethnicities. There's no ethnic difference. None. There's no white Savior. There's no black Savior. There's no Asian Savior. There's no Hispanic Savior. There's just the Savior. There's no difference. There's no distinction between Jew and Greek. Do you know what that says? That says God sees no difference. None. It says He's not a respecter of persons. And in fact, if you show partiality to somebody else because of their status in life, because of their class, because of their money, because of the melanin in their skin or lack thereof, it's a sin against God and that other person. And there's no place for it in the family of God. None whatsoever. Yeah. The same Lord overall is rich to all who call upon him. For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. I want you to notice with me briefly the words believe, call, and save. Believe, call, and save. This is the beautiful simplicity of the gospel. You believe. You trust. Not in your works or in anything else for that matter, but in Jesus. You call. You cry out to Jesus as Savior and Lord for mercy and forgiveness and salvation. And you are saved. Not maybe, not hopefully, but surely. And this promise is for whoever. Whoever. You know what that means? That means no background disqualifies you. Whatever your past, no background disqualifies you. No amount of sin, praise God, is too great. No status, no ethnicity, no shameful history puts you out of reach. Isn't
Fruit That Follows True Salvation
SPEAKER_00that awesome? Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. That includes the jailer, that includes those who crucify Jesus in Acts chapter 2, and that includes you. And that includes me. Back in Acts 16. The jailer didn't just say he believed. He lived like it. He lived like it. Boy, that's what we're missing in the church today. He opened his home to the men of God. He washed their wounds. He was baptized that very night as a public declaration of faith. And he rejoiced because now he had hope. See, real salvation, I'm talking about the real deal. Real salvation produces real fruit. As we talked about last week, we don't do good works to earn salvation. But once we're saved, we can't help but be changed. Because the Holy Spirit, again, not perfect, not sinless, but the Holy Spirit begins to transform us from the inside out. That's why back in Acts 2, after Peter preached that sermon and after 3,000 people were saved and baptized, the next verses say, Acts 2.42 says, they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship in the breaking of bread and in prayers. They continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship in the breaking of bread and prayers. It wasn't like, okay, they made this profession, they got baptized, and in six months nobody knows where they are. They made this profession of faith and got baptized, but a year from now, the FBI couldn't find them. They got trouble anyway. Anyway. You continue steadfastly. You're not in and out. You're not up and down. You're not hot and cold. You're not on and off. If you're saved. Does that mean you'll never get down? No. You'll get down. Does that mean you won't ever get a little cold and dry? No, you will. From time to time. But you don't quit. You don't lay out. You don't stop loving and following Jesus. You continue steadfastly. Because true faith leads to real repentance, real obedience, and real transformation.
A Direct Call To Respond
SPEAKER_00So how does this apply to us? Well, longtime believer, keep walking in repentance and faith. The gospel that saved you is the gospel that sustained you. And so let your life bear fruit that reflects God's grace. Cooperate with that. To the new in the faith believer. Take some steps of obedience. Don't delay in publicly identifying with Christ through believers' baptism. Joining the church. Growing in community. Salvation is just the beginning of a lifelong journey. To the still lost unbeliever? You've heard the question. What must I do to be saved? You've heard the answer. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. And now you're accountable. You'll have to answer to your Maker one day. Unless you come to Christ and be saved. So the question is, what will you do? I mean, maybe you're like the jailer this morning. You've already, it's been happening in your life. You're convicted, you're shaken, and you're searching. Or maybe, maybe you've been, you've you've been religious, you know, kind of churchy. But you've never really truly repented and savingly believed on Jesus. Because the Bible is clear. Salvation is not about being good enough or trying harder. It's about turning to Jesus in repentance and faith. And you don't have to wait until you've cleaned yourself up because you can't. And you don't have to have all the answers because you never will. You just, here's what you need to know. This is it. You need to know and admit that you are a sinner and that Jesus is the Savior and He's your only help and He's your only hope, and you run to Him for mercy and forgiveness and ask Him to save you. That's what you need. That's it. So, will you call on His name today? Will you repent and say to God, Lord, I believe. Save me. And the good news is, is He will not turn you away. He won't say, Let me think about it. He won't say, okay, I'm gonna put you on a 90-day probation and then No. He won't turn you away. The most important question a person can ask, What must I do to be saved, was met with the most powerful and sufficient answer: believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved. It's not complicated, it's not religious ritual, it's not moral achievement. It's repentance and faith, it's a change of mind about yourself, about your sin, about Jesus being your Savior and Lord. It's turning from sin and trusting in Christ alone. And that's what the Philippian jailer did that night. I mean, do you really get it? One moment, one moment, he was suicidal and hopeless. And the next, he was hearing the word of God, he was repenting and believing in Jesus and being baptized. And then I'll bet you what, he probably didn't know the words, but he probably started singing with the saved before the night was over. Because that's what God does. Praise his name. He rescues, he revives, he redeems. Aren't you so thankful for that? And what God did for him, he still does for people today. Remember the pattern? He was awakened by crisis, but even more so by conviction. He was confronted with the truth. Jesus is Lord, and salvation is found in him. He was changed by grace, washed clean, welcomed home, and filled with joy. And this is the pattern of salvation for all of us. And it can be your story too. You might not be in a prison like the jailer, but I want you to know this morning God brought you here today for a reason. Maybe he's shaking your heart to awaken you. Maybe he's already stirring you with conviction. Will you ask the most important question? What must I do to be saved? And will you receive the glorious answer? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved. Maybe you're wondering well, if God is the one who saves, what am I supposed to do? Well, the answer is God works and you must respond. God opened the jailer's heart, but the jailer still asked, What must I do? He still had to believe. He still had to receive. And so if your heart is troubled today, if something inside you is stirring, don't ignore it. That may be God awakening you to your need for Christ. So let's apply one more time. Unbeliever. Today's the day of salvation. Don't delay. Call on Jesus. Confess him as Lord. Turn from your sin and trust in him. You will be saved. If you're a new believer, and let's be honest, there might be some areas where you are not following through. Follow him boldly. Be baptized. Join the church. Walk in the joy of your salvation and let your faith be saved. And if you're a mature believer, you've been saved a long time. You've been saved for a number of years. You might be sitting here this one, Pastor, I've heard this a million times. In fact this is pretty boring to me today. Tell us something new. If that's your attitude I'm concerned about you. But if you've been saved for a number of years and this is still glorious and true to your heart, share this message. There are thousands around us still asking this question. In your circle of life. Your children be ready to give them the answer. Not religion not rules but Jesus Jesus. Because the gospel is still good news for anyone anywhere who asks what must I do to be saved? And hears,
Closing Invitation And Resources
SPEAKER_00believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
SPEAKER_01As we close today's message, the most important question any person will ever ask is the one we've been considering together. What must I do to be saved? The answer of the Bible is gloriously clear. You cannot save yourself. You cannot earn salvation. You cannot clean yourself up enough for God to accept you. Salvation is the gracious work of God through Jesus Christ. The Bible says believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved. And maybe today for the very first time you understand salvation is not about what you do for God but what Christ has already done for you through his death and resurrection.
