Sometimes the best way to get ahead is to slow down. In this laid-back episode of The Texan Edge, Tweed Scott takes us on a drive through the Texas backroads and reminds us that racing through life means missing the view. SPEAKER_00:

Howdy, I'm Tweed Scott and welcome back to the Texan Edge. You know, we Texans love to brag about how fast we can move. Our trucks, our highways, even our barbecue lines. But sometimes, believe it or not, the best way forward is by tapping the brakes just a little bit. I learned that one summer evening out near Lanto. I was hustling to get somewhere. Can't even tell you where now, that's how important it was. And when I got stuck behind an old rancher driving a tractor down the road, now he's just putt-putting along, maybe about 10 miles an hour, and I'm over there drumming the steering wheel, muttering about schedules and time. I think I was just about to chew my way through the steering wheel. Then he turned off at the next gate. He tipped his hat, and I realized he wasn't behind. I was ahead of myself. We get so wrapped up in going faster that we forget the whole point of movement is direction. If you're always racing, you never see where you are. Sometimes the best thing you can do is slow down enough to actually live your own life. So maybe today, take a few minutes out. A few quiet minutes. Sit on the porch. Feel the breeze. Don't rush through your meal. Taste it. Just don't talk. Listen. When you stop hurrying long enough to catch your breath, then you just might find out you're exactly where you're supposed to be. And you know what? That old rancher might have been the smartest man on the road, and you know what? I suspect he really was. Now, he wasn't late, keep in mind. He was right on time. This is the Texan Edge, and remember, the only thing you'll miss by slowing down is the stress you've left behind. We'll be back again tomorrow with another Texas story. The Texan Edge isn't just a podcast, it's a Texas state of mind.
