Texan Edge
The Texan Edge is more than a podcast — it’s a Texas state of mind.
Hosted by Tweed Scott, author of Texas in Her Own Words, each weekday brings a short burst of inspiration, common sense, and straight talk from the Lone Star perspective. Some days we’ll visit a slice of Texas history; other days, we’ll share a story or reflection to help you face the day with grit, gratitude, and grace.
Whether you were born here, got here as fast as you could, or just wish you had — The Texan Edge reminds you why the Texas spirit still matters. It’s where optimism wears boots, humor has manners, and pride runs as deep as the oil wells.
Pull up a chair, friend. Take a listen.
On Wednesdays and Fridays, we focus on a Texas historical event to showcase our daily nugget. Ultimately, it's a Texas thing!
My why with The Texan Edge is to share the spirit of Texas—the humor, grit, wisdom, and warmth I’ve lived and loved here—with people everywhere. I want to remind folks each day that they carry the strength to face life with courage, perspective, and a smile. This podcast is my way of giving back the inspiration Texas has given me, one daily nugget at a time.
Because here at The Texan Edge, we don’t just talk Texas — we live it.
The Texan Edge is "Not just a podcast, but a Texas state of mind.”
Texan Edge
Worry Has No Value
Description:
In this episode of The Texan Edge, Tweed Scott tackles one of life’s biggest energy drains—worry. From a grocery store line to a West Texas thunderstorm, he reminds us that most of what we stress about never even happens. Worry, as he puts it, is “borrowing trouble that hasn’t even been issued yet.” With his trademark Texas warmth and wisdom, Tweed shows how calm confidence—not constant concern—is the true edge that keeps life steady.
Show Notes:
- Tweed opens with a story about a man stewing in line at the grocery store, worrying about things that hadn’t even occurred yet.
- He draws a parallel between unnecessary worry and Texas weather—how often we fret over storms that never arrive.
- The key takeaway: “Worry is just borrowing trouble.”
- Being prepared is smart; being preoccupied is exhausting.
- The real edge in life comes from calm confidence and trusting that you’ll handle whatever rolls your way—because you always have before.
- Tweed’s closing thought: “The Bank of Worry never pays dividends.”
This isn't just a podcast, it's a Texas state of mind.
Hi there, it's Tweed Scott, and this is the Texan Edge. Your daily reminder that a little Texas common sense goes a long way towards keeping life pointed in the right direction. You know, I was standing in a line at a grocery store not too terribly long ago, and the fella in front of me was steward over something that hadn't even happened yet, that he was talking to himself, worried about what might go wrong, how it could go bad, and what they might say. You could see the storm clouds gathering over his head, and you know what? All that was just in his imagination. Now I gotta admit, I've been that guy too. I bet we all have. But here's what I've come to understand. Wory is just borrowing trouble that hasn't even been issued yet. You're paying emotional interest on a debt you may never owe. I determined a long time ago that worry has no value. Texas weather has a way of teaching us that lesson. You know, you can spend all week worrying about a storm that fizzles, it did nothing. Or you can keep your eye in the sky and deal with it when it comes. And you know what? Most of the time it blows right on by, or it doesn't even happen. Now, don't get me wrong, being prepared is smart, but being preoccupied, that's just downright exhausting. Now the edge comes from calm confidence, not constant worry. It's the quiet knowing that you'll handle whatever rolls your way when it gets here. Because you know what? You will. And you've done it before. When I catch myself overthinking, I try to stop and ask, is this a problem that I actually have? Or it's just one that I made up. And you know what? More often than not, it's the latter. When you realize that, well, you can let it go. Take a breath and get back to living. So today, try not to borrow trouble. Have you ever noticed that the Bank of Warri never pays dividends? This is the Texan Edge, and I'm Tweet Scott, reminding you handle what's real. Trust yourself for the rest, and we'll meet right back here tomorrow. Remember, the Texan Edge is more than a podcast, it's a Texas state of mind.
