Texan Edge
The Texan Edge is more than a podcast — it’s a Texas state of mind.
Hosted by Tweed Scott, author of Texas in Her Own Words, each weekday brings a short burst of inspiration, common sense, and straight talk from the Lone Star perspective. Some days we’ll visit a slice of Texas history; other days, we’ll share a story or reflection to help you face the day with grit, gratitude, and grace.
Whether you were born here, got here as fast as you could, or just wish you had — The Texan Edge reminds you why the Texas spirit still matters. It’s where optimism wears boots, humor has manners, and pride runs as deep as the oil wells.
Pull up a chair, friend. Take a listen.
On Wednesdays and Fridays, we focus on a Texas historical event to showcase our daily nugget. Ultimately, it's a Texas thing!
My why with The Texan Edge is to share the spirit of Texas—the humor, grit, wisdom, and warmth I’ve lived and loved here—with people everywhere. I want to remind folks each day that they carry the strength to face life with courage, perspective, and a smile. This podcast is my way of giving back the inspiration Texas has given me, one daily nugget at a time.
Because here at The Texan Edge, we don’t just talk Texas — we live it.
The Texan Edge is "Not just a podcast, but a Texas state of mind.”

What To Keep And What To Leave Behind This Year
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
By mid-January, the excitement fades—and what’s left is something far more useful: perspective.
In today’s Texan Edge, Tweed Scott reflects on the quiet wisdom of early Texans, who understood that every journey required choices. You couldn’t carry everything. Some things mattered enough to protect. Others had to be left behind, even if they once felt important.
This episode is a gentle reminder that letting go isn’t quitting—it’s choosing carefully. As the year unfolds, paying attention to what strengthens you over time versus what quietly wears you down may be one of the most important decisions you make.
Because we’re not here to rush life.
We’re here to live it well.

Welcome From Tweed Scott
SPEAKER_00Well, hello there again. It's me, Tweed Scott, and this is today's Texan Edge. You know, by mid-January, the newness wears off. What remains is something more useful than enthusiasm. It's called perspective. You start noticing what actually is sticking and what already feels heavy. Early Texans understood this instinctively. You couldn't carry everything with you. Every journey required decisions. Some things were essential. Others had to be left behind, even if they once felt important. That wisdom still applies to this very day. Now, not everything that you're carrying deserves the same energy this year. Some habits may have served you well once, but quietly outlived their usefulness. Some expectations may never have been yours to begin with, and some pressures exist only because you keep agreeing to them. Letting go is not quitting. It's choosing carefully. Texas didn't become Texas by holding on to everything. It became Texas by learning what mattered enough to protect and what could be released without regret. As this year unfolds, pay attention to what strengthens you slowly over time and what leaves you drained. One builds a life that you can live with while the other one just flat wears you out. Oh, and this is just another reminder our porch is always open at substack.com slash Texan Edge. That's a quiet place where we stay connected beyond the podcast. Nothing pressing, just there when you want it. We're not here to rush the air. We're here to live it well. Well, I'll plan on seeing you tomorrow. Can I plan on seeing you here? I certainly hope so. I'm already looking forward to it. In the meantime, take care of your precious self.
