Texan Edge
The Texan Edge is more than a podcast — it’s a Texas state of mind.
Hosted by Tweed Scott, author of Texas in Her Own Words, each weekday brings a short burst of inspiration, common sense, and straight talk from the Lone Star perspective. Some days we’ll visit a slice of Texas history; other days, we’ll share a story or reflection to help you face the day with grit, gratitude, and grace.
Whether you were born here, got here as fast as you could, or just wish you had — The Texan Edge reminds you why the Texas spirit still matters. It’s where optimism wears boots, humor has manners, and pride runs as deep as the oil wells.
Pull up a chair, friend. Take a listen.
On Wednesdays and Fridays, we focus on a Texas historical event to showcase our daily nugget. Ultimately, it's a Texas thing!
My why with The Texan Edge is to share the spirit of Texas—the humor, grit, wisdom, and warmth I’ve lived and loved here—with people everywhere. I want to remind folks each day that they carry the strength to face life with courage, perspective, and a smile. This podcast is my way of giving back the inspiration Texas has given me, one daily nugget at a time.
Because here at The Texan Edge, we don’t just talk Texas — we live it.
The Texan Edge is "Not just a podcast, but a Texas state of mind.”

Episode Description
Texas was built by people willing to move toward a horizon they couldn’t fully see. That frontier spirit still lives on today — not as rebellion for rebellion’s sake, but as responsibility taken seriously. In this episode of The Texan Edge, Tweed Scott explores modern Texas independence: owning your choices, trading blame for action, and stewarding your own life with intention. This is about freedom earned through responsibility, not luck or guarantees.

SPEAKER_00Well, hi there, and thank you for choosing to spend part of your day with us here at the Texan Edge. Texas has a very long history of people striking out toward a horizon that they couldn't see clearly, but somehow felt compelled, being drawn by it. From the early settlers to modern entrepreneurs, that don't tread on me spirit isn't just about resisting control. At its best, it's about taking responsibility for your own path. Picture a family pulling up steaks and moving into a small Texas town to start a business. Could be a feed store, a food truck, or a repair shop of some kind. No one guarantees them success. There is no safety net if it fails, but if they run the numbers, lean on each other, and decide if this thing works, it's on us. And if it doesn't, well, that's on us too. That's the frontier independence in the modern world. Now here's the thing: independence isn't doing whatever you want whenever you want. It's accepting that your choices shape your life more than your circumstances do. And it means trading blame for ownership. Instead of saying someone should fix this, you should start asking, what's my part to play in fixing this? For myself, my family, or for my community. You see, this is that work when someone stops being the office complainer or whiter and becomes the person who says, Hey, what if we tried this instead? Or at home, it's the moment that you stop waiting for others to change and start adjusting to your own habits, yours, your tone, and your follow-through in your finances. It's building a simpler budget, making one extra payment, or learning one new skill instead of just wishing things were somehow different. The deeper Texan truth here is that responsibility and freedom are essentially twins. You can't ask for one and refuse the other. People who carry their responsibilities well, who show up, pay attention, keep their word, are the ones we trust with more freedom. The Frontier Spirit says, My life is mine to steward, and I can't control everything, but I can control my response to it. Your Texan Edge challenge for today is identify one place where you catch yourself saying, Well, that's just how it is, or there's nothing I can do. Write down one concrete action that moves the needle even just a little bit and make the call. Ask the question. Start the list. Take that action this week. Not because anyone made you to, just because you've decided to own your own life. Texan style. Today's Texan Edge is really getting into what part of being a Texan is really all about. If you think this episode would speak to someone that you know, well, be sure and tell them how to find us. Well, that's going to wrap it up for today, but we'll be back again tomorrow. Right here on the Texan Edge. Hope to see you bye. Bye bye.
