Texan Edge
The Texan Edge is more than a podcast — it’s a Texas state of mind.
Hosted by Tweed Scott, author of Texas in Her Own Words, each weekday brings a short burst of inspiration, common sense, and straight talk from the Lone Star perspective. Some days we’ll visit a slice of Texas history; other days, we’ll share a story or reflection to help you face the day with grit, gratitude, and grace.
Whether you were born here, got here as fast as you could, or just wish you had — The Texan Edge reminds you why the Texas spirit still matters. It’s where optimism wears boots, humor has manners, and pride runs as deep as the oil wells.
Pull up a chair, friend. Take a listen.
On Wednesdays and Fridays, we focus on a Texas historical event to showcase our daily nugget. Ultimately, it's a Texas thing!
My why with The Texan Edge is to share the spirit of Texas—the humor, grit, wisdom, and warmth I’ve lived and loved here—with people everywhere. I want to remind folks each day that they carry the strength to face life with courage, perspective, and a smile. This podcast is my way of giving back the inspiration Texas has given me, one daily nugget at a time.
Because here at The Texan Edge, we don’t just talk Texas — we live it.
The Texan Edge is "Not just a podcast, but a Texas state of mind.”

Episode description
In this episode of The Texan Edge, Tweed takes you from a dusty six‑man field to the bright lights of a Texas stadium to spotlight one of the quiet traits that built this state: being a finisher. When the scoreboard says it’s over but one kid keeps running every play, that’s the same spirit that keeps ranch hands mending fences after dark, oil field crews on the job till the work is done, and everyday Texans paying off debt, raising kids, or finishing degrees long after the fun and glory are gone. Along the way, Tweed reminds us that behind the Houstons and the Bowies were thousands of unnamed Texans who simply did what they said they’d do, even when nobody was watching. Today’s Texan Edge question: What’s the one thing in your life you’ve been circling instead of finishing—and what would change if you ran that play all the way to the whistle?

SPEAKER_00We're back with another edition of The Texan Edge. Good to have you along. I'm Tweed Scott. You're sitting in a set of bleaches somewhere in Texas. It could be a six-man field on a dusty back road or a big city stadium under TV lights. The score isn't even close, and everybody in those stands already knows pretty much where this one's going. But there's this one kid out there who just won't stop. He's still chasing every play, still blocking, and still getting back up. The scoreboard says, it's over, but his body hasn't gotten the message. That right there is one of the simplest ways to spot something we value deeply in Texas. Finishers. Oh sure, we like talent, we respect skill, but the people who stay with us are the ones who finish projects, seasons, promises, jobs, long after the fund or the glory have left the building. You know, out here we learned a long time ago that life doesn't hand you many easy wins. The land is too big, the weather's too unforgiving, and the economy too wild for that. So the people who rise to the top aren't always the flashiest. They're the ones who just keep going. Ranch work doesn't happen on your schedule. Cattle don't check your calendar before the fence goes down, and oil field shifts don't ask whether you're in the mood or not. Somebody has to stay on the job until it's done. And more often than not, that somebody is a Texan who made a quiet decision. I'm not quitting until this is finished. Now here's the thing you don't have to live on a ranch or work on a rig for this to matter. You might be finishing a degree that you started years ago. You might be raising kids, or building a business from a spare bedroom, or just trying to crawl out of a debt hole one payment at a time. None of that looks heroic on Instagram. But it's exactly what this place is built on. We remember the big names, sure. It was Houston and Austin and Bowie. But you know what? Behind every famous Texan are thousands of folks whose names never made it into the history books, nor never will. But you know what? They finished anyway. They finished their chores, their contracts, their shifts, and their obligations. They finished when no one was watching. And that's why this state works well as it does. Now, so here's your Texan Edge question for the day. What's your one thing in your life that you've been circling? You know, talking about, halfway doing, but not finishing? Maybe it's a conversation you've been avoiding. It could be a habit that you keep starting on Monday. Maybe it's a project that's lived in your desk for so long it practically has its own mailing address. Pick one. Anyone. Decide, like that kid on the field, that the scoreboard really doesn't matter. You're gonna run every play all the way to the whistle. Because around here, the real difference isn't between winners and losers. It's between people who stop when it's hard and the people who finish anyway. You know which group of Texans to belong to. The only question is, which one do you belong to today? Say that's gonna wrap it up for today's Texan Edge, but we'll be back again on tomorrow and with another look at the Texan Edge. I'm Tweed Scott. Remember, this is not just a podcast. This is a Texas state of mind. We'll see you tomorrow!
